Raw Deal - Raw recap for December 31, 2018

The show begins with a steel cage being lowered over the ring.

Drew McIntyre beats Dolph Ziggler in a steel cage match following two Claymore Kicks. After the match, Ziggler says to McIntyre "Is that all you've got?" after being egged on to fight by McIntyre throughout the match, and McIntyre responds by re-entering the ring with a steel chair and drop kicking it into Ziggler's face. McIntyre then tells the fans that he is "king of the Raw jungle" before telling Ziggler it did not have to be this way, but Ziggler kept coming back for his scraps. He calls Ziggler "dead weight" and undeserving of his scraps, then says he can focus on what really matters. He says it is time to prove he is king of the WWE, and fulfill his destiny by winning the Royal Rumble and the WWE Universal Championship. McIntyre is about to leave when he notices Ziggler getting back to his feet, and rushes back into the ring to hit Ziggler with yet another Claymore Kick.

Shane McMahon and Triple H are seen coming out of a limousine backstage.

Finn Balor resolves to become Universal Champion in 2019. Ember Moon wants to win the women's Royal Rumble. The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor) want to win the Raw tag team titles. The Lucha House Party (Kalisto, Lince Dorado, Gran Metalik) want to make 2019 their year.

Seth Rollins shows up. He says he is not one for New Year's resolutions, as every day is a chance for a fresh start in the fast-paced world of WWE. He says he is not interested on waiting for a ball to drop, as he wants to start the party right now. Seth announces that he has a rematch for the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Dean Ambrose, and he wants it right now. Instead of getting Dean Ambrose, he gets WWE COO Triple H. Triple H says it has been a while and that Seth has said something interesting concerning fresh starts, and says it has never been more true than right now. He says there will be no more automatic anything, including rematches, and that his rematch is not going to happen. He also says that Seth is not deserving of a rematch anyway, and that he takes no pleasure in saying that he has always been his most vocal supporter. Seth tells him to cut the crap, but Triple H tells Seth he made him believe in him. Whether it was becoming "The Man," making Raw into "Monday Night Rollins," or getting what he wanted, he made him believe, and he also kicked his ass at WrestleMania until he believed in him again. He wants to know where this Rollins is, as this Rollins has been asking for stuff. Rollins says he has been carrying the red brand and churning out classic matches while Brock Lesnar has been sitting at home. Rollins says he is more than happy to earn his opportunities, and ask Triple H if he wants the "soulless bastard" he used to be. Triple H tells him that is exactly what he wants, and tells him to start tonight with Bobby Lashley. Seth says he will take anything Lashley has to give, then do the same to Dean Ambrose and anyone who gets in his way, including Triple H's own family. Shane McMahon runs in and tells Triple H to stop amping Rollins up, and reminds Rollins to get ready for his match with Lashley before announcing that the winner of the "Fresh Start Battle Royal" - which is next - will face Ambrose for the Intercontinental title later tonight.

Apollo Crews wins the Fresh Start Battle Royal, last eliminating Baron Corbin to earn a shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship later tonight. After the match, Charly Caruso interviews Apollo Crews in the ring. Apollo says he has been asking for a fresh start, and now that fresh start is finally here. He can't think of any better way to spend the last day of 2018 than becoming Intercontinental Champion.

Backstage, Dasha Fuentes interviews Natalya, who says 2018 was a whirlwind year and a lot to handle, but also contained a lot of great things such as her match with "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey. She is entering the women's Royal Rumble match to get a rematch with Ronda. Nia Jax shows up and asks what would happen if Ronda wasn't the champ and something derailed Natalya's friends. Natalya is suddenly attacked from behind by Tamina, and Nia Jax joins in until backstage officials step in to stop the assault.

It is announced that Natalya and "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey will face Nia Jax and Tamina later tonight.

Baron Corbin is in the ring, saying he should have won the Fresh Start Battle Royal as nobody is more deserving of a fresh start than he does as everyone booed him when he tried to make them happy as General Manager-Elect. As he says that he deserves a reward for trying to please everyone, Elias shows up on the stage and plays "Auld Lang Syne" before telling Corbin his time is up and that it is time for a "new year's rockin' eve" with him, and that Corbin isn't invited because he's a loser. This leads to a "You're a loser!" chant aimed at Corbin from the fans, and Elias says that Corbin brought Raw to a run-down state like Detroit, Michigan before proclaiming that Detroit is on the rise and making a comeback. Elias then mocks Corbin through song, saying Corbin ruined Raw and is not entertaining. Corbin leaves the ring and heads towards the stage, and Elias meets him halfway up the ramp for a brawl. The brawl goes into the crowd and into towards the tech area before going back to the barricade where Elias pins Corbin into the barricade with a box before pummeling him. Corbin then retreats at the first possible opportunity.

AOP (Akam and Rezar) and Drake Maverick resolve to become more brutal and barbaric than ever until they are tag team champions again. The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, Sarah Logan) wants to apply pressure and break everyone in 2019. Zack Ryder wants more matches and action figures. No Way Jose, on the other hand, is more interested in living in the moment and not worrying about 2019 until it gets here.

Ember Moon, Sasha Banks and Bayley beat The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, Sarah Logan).

We look back on Braun Strowman's 2018.

Before the next match, Lio Rush says that 2019 will be the year of Bobby Lashley, and that Lashley came to fight, not to pose. After saying that Triple H hand-picked Lashley tonight, Rush proclaims that Seth Rollins will find out first-hand what Lashley is all about. Before telling Lashley to dominate, Lio Rush also proclaims that Detroit, Michigan will be kissing Lashley's butt.

Bobby Lashley beats Seth Rollins by disqualification after Rollins hits Lashley with a steel chair at ringside. After the match, Rollins continues to attack Lashley with the steel chair, and Lio Rush gets hit out of the air with the steel chair before he gets smacked in the back with it as well. Lashley rolls out of the ring afterwards, but Lio Rush falls victim to the Stomp.

John Cena returns to Raw next week.

Jinder Mahal and The Singh Brothers (Samir and Sunil Singh) beat Heath Slater and Rhyno after The Singh Brothers stop the Gore.

We hear from Dean Ambrose, who says Seth Rollins needs a fresh start more than he does and that he plans to burn down everything Seth holds dear. As for tonight, he will ensure Apollo Crews' fresh start has a rotten end.

Bobby Roode and Chad Gable want to make the Raw tag team division continue to be glorious. The Revival want to be Raw tag team champs. Bayley wants to be women's tag team champions with Sasha Banks.

Dean Ambrose retains the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Apollo Crews after rolling away from a top rope frog splash.

We hear from Alexa Bliss, who says that she will miss running the Raw Women's Division. During that time, she made history, and next week, she makes more history with her new talk show, "A Moment of Bliss," making her the first woman in WWE to host her own talk show segment. Next week's guest will be "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey, who Alexa tells to dress appropriately as she will be in the presence of a goddess and "not slumming it out in some Pit."

Natalya and "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey beat Nia Jax and Tamina with an arm bar to Tamina.

Next week: Braun Strowman returns! Brock Lesnar returns! The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) vs. Chad Gable and Bobby Roode for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships!

Daniel Bryan accepts that he has to be away from family to be in "this cesspool," and refuses to legitimize "the farce that is Truthy Clause," who he says is not the real Santa before calling R-Truth and Carmella fickle. Daniel then says he will expose the real Santa Claus like he did "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles, saying he is the origin of everyone's selfish desires that have cost the world half of the coral reefs on the planet and created "islands of misfit garbage" in the oceans. He also says that this gets the glaciers melting and the sea levels rising to the point that there will be no North Pole - or Santa - in twenty years. R-Truth calls Daniel "an angry little elf," and Daniel Bryan responds by calling R-Truth's career "a tired old joke." R-Truth warns Daniel Bryan that he is #30 in the Royal Rumble Match and that after he wins, he'll take the WWE Championship from him and become the last one laughing, assuming he is still champion at WrestleMania. Daniel asks R-Truth how he expects to win the Royal Rumble when he can't count to 30. R-Truth counts to seven and starts a seven-second dance break, which leads to an angry Daniel hitting R-Truth with the WWE Championship and going after his leg to lock in a heel hook. He promises new Superstars, new match-ups and new opportunities, but now the fans will shape the narrative and make it happen. The Miz proposes that Shane form a tag team with him, saying he proved he can tag team with anybody and be successful after last week, and explains he has begged Shane to be his tag team partner because he has never heard his own dad say he is proud of him during his career. He also explains that Miz's dad views Shane as a man without fear, and asks Shane to imagine being one-half of the best tag team in the world. With that in mind, he set out to make the tag team a reality. As he explains things, he feels that this tag team should be the fans' choice, not theirs, and asks the fans for their input. The fans almost universally agree, and Shane says that everything Miz said resonates with him. He tells Miz not to screw him, or else there will be major consequences, and decides to give the idea a shot.

Vince slaps Styles, saying he wants to see that animal, then referees and officials rush in to get Styles away from Vince when Styles slaps Vince back. When asked if he is all right, Vince says "Yeah...I think I'm good."

Once he disposes of both of them, he will win the Royal Rumble Match and fulfill his destiny when he main events WrestleMania.

Finn Balor beats Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre in a Triple Threat Match. He mentions Lesnar's title defense at Royal Rumble, then says there is no way that Strowman will not win the Universal Championship at the expense of Brock Lesnar. As soon as Heyman says that all Strowman will get is a lump of coal, Strowman shows up with his right elbow now bandaged. Heyman tries to beg Strowman off, but Strowman responds by placing a red nose and reindeer antlers on Heyman's face and head before making fun of him. He then tells Heyman he will be healed up and that Lesnar will get these hands at Royal Rumble.

Backstage, Charly Caruso interviews Natalya, who expects nothing but the best from "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey, who expects nothing but the best from her. Raw Deal - Raw recap for December 17, 2018

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon shows up to start tonight's show. Vince says that he asked himself what is going on with Raw, and says that part of the reason Raw has been around for 25 years is that it changes with the times. He then says that despite one man's vision, he cannot do it all by himself...or the fans. Vince then brings out Commissioner Stephanie McMahon, who in turn brings out WWE COO Triple H, who in turns helps bring out SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon. Stephanie says they are here tonight because they have not been doing the one thing that Vince has told them to do: listen to the fans. She says that things will change, starting tonight, and that Raw will be off to a fresh start. Triple H says the days of absentee management is over and that they are taking back control of Raw. He promises something new and fresh, and in the coming months, there will be new faces, Superstars and match-ups. From here, the fans are the authority. Vince says that as long as they give less of what the fans don't want, and more of what they do, WWE will always be then, now and forever. Suddenly, former General Manager Baron Corbin shows up. He says nobody is more excited for a fresh start than him, and while he is excited the McMahon family is running Raw, they forget to mention fairness, and what happened to him last night was not fair. After being nearly booed out of the building for minutes on end and being told that he sucks, he says he has been inspiring Superstars and it is not his fault if they cannot live up to the challenge. He also says that he was not prepared for Strowman or everyone he brought with him, saying that he should have not have been at TLC last night. Corbin asks them to overturn the ruling from last night's match, and tells them to think of what they can accomplish if they were to back him. Everyone says no, except for Vince, who says there might be away. Everyone talks with Vince, and says that maybe they and the fans are wrong and that maybe he deserves another chance at being Raw General Manager. Triple H proposes that if Corbin can win his match right now, he can become permanent General Manager, and all Corbin has to do is beat Kurt Angle. Kurt Angle shows up for the match, then Stephanie McMahon also announces a special guest referee in the form of Heath Slater. Triple H shows up soon afterwards during the match and mentions it is a handicap match, and Kurt Angle's partners are Bobby Roode, Chad Gable and Apollo Crews, who soon stom on Corbin along with Angle while Slater fixes a turnbuckle. Shane McMahon then shows up and announces that the match if officially a no-disqualification match. It is not long before Kurt Angle beats Baron Corbin following a slew of steel chair shots and an Angle Slam, keeping Corbin from becoming permanent Raw General Manager. After the match, Corbin is put through a table with another Angle Slam.

We see footage of John Cena accepting the 2018 Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award.

Finn Balor beats Dolph Ziggler by disqualification after Drew McIntyre gets involved in the match and lays Balor out. After the match, McIntyre assaults Ziggler and hits him with the Claymore before sliding out of the ring and doing the same to Balor.

Dean Ambrose shows up with his riot squad. Ambrose says the fans should be showing him respect and bowing down to him right now, because everything that he said would happen at TLC happened, as Seth Rollins lost control and failed the fans. Ambrose says he doesn't need respect because he took the Intercontinental Championship away from Rollins, and he is just getting started. He says that when he is done, Rollins will have nothing left, including his career and reputation. He also says he has the obligation to do the right thing and give Rollins the opportunity to be a man of character and integrity and tell him that he was right. When Rollins fails to show, Ambrose proposes an open challenge so Rollins can take his anger out on him. Rollins fails to show up, and Ambrose says Rollins is a self-righteous whiner who has to get his way or else he will fall apart, and that Rollins can't even show his face. Since nothing worked, he holds an open challenge for the Intercontinental title for anyone but Rollins. The open challenge is answered by Tyler Breeze.

Dean Ambrose retains the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Tyler Breeze. After the match, Ambrose calls his victory a performance of an Intercontinental Champion with character. As he complains about Seth Rollins, Rollins' entrance hits, but Rollins - disguised as a riot guard - attacks Ambrose from behind. The rest of the riot squad goes after Rollins, but Rollins successfully fends them off as Ambrose retreats.

Backstage, Charly Caruso interviews SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon, who says that opportunity is coming to those who have not gotten them and that tough decision will have to be made. Suddenly, Drake Maverick shows up and demands that AOP (Akam and Rezar) be given a rematch for the Raw tag team titles. Shane refuses, saying the mandatory rematch is antiquated at this point, but says an opportunity can be made with a match against The B-Team (Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel), The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) and Lucha House Party (Kalisto, Lince Dorado, Gran Metalik) in a Fatal 4-Way Match. The winner of that Fatal 4-Way will be given a future shot at the Raw tag team titles.

We see vignettes for Lars Sullivan, Lacey Evans, Heavy Machinery (Tucker Knight and Otis Dozovic), Nikki Cross, and EC3.

Lio Rush and Bobby Lashley are on stage. Rush says Elias isn't the only one who can play sweet sounds on the guitar, and that the best sound Lashley made with one was when he smacked a guitar into Elias' back last night. Rush goes on to say that everybody came not to hear Elias play another song, but to see a real performance from Lashley, who is going to give it to them as soon as he starts posing. Rush then says that comparing Elias to Lashley is like comparing the Golden State Warriors to the Sacramento Kings as Lashley shows off his glutes, then Elias shows up and blasts Lashley in the back with a guitar.

We see a vignette for Sami Zayn, who will be returning soon.

The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) beat AOP (Akam and Rezar), The B-Team (Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel) and The Lucha House Party (Kalisto and Lince Dorado) in a Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match to earn a future opportunity at the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships. (Before the match, it is revealed that "Lucha House Party" Rules, which have allowed The Lucha House Party to participate in tag team matches as a three-man unit including Gran Metalik, have officially been banned on Raw.)

Backstage, Charly Caruso interviews Seth Rollins, who says that last night was a disaster when he let Dean Ambrose get in his head and take the Intercontinental Championship. He also says he heard the crowd last night, and says that is all his fault. He says that this isn't about winning or titles, but about his life and everything he has dedicated it to. Rollins plans to right the ship by ending Dean Ambrose. Suddenly, Baron Corbin shows up. Corbin blames Rollins for him not being General Manager and says that everything Dean Ambrose said about Rollins was true, and that if he wasn't so beat up, he would have taken the Intercontinental Championship from him. Rollins responds by punching Corbin in the face.

"Rowdy" Ronda Rousey shows up. Ronda says she told Nia Jax she could kiss her right hand goodbye, told Charlotte Flair she was going to write the next chapter of their story, and told Becky Lynch that she was the last woman she should provoke. She also says she came here not to justify her actions from last night, but to define what a real champion is. She says a real champion is more than just a title or an object that can be held, or the victory of a match or the decision of a referee. She says a real champion represents the limit of human potential - the best of the best - and the best that the human race has to offer as well as one who lives for the challenge, and that is why she is here tonight. Ronda proposes a new tradition: the champion from last night shows up and defends their title. She says she came for a fight, and issues an open challenge for anyone who wants a shot at her. The entire Raw women's division yells at the workers at gorilla position, then Commissioner Stephanie McMahon shows up and tells them all to follow her to the stage. Stephanie says all the women with her want a title shot, but she is tired of playing favorites and announces that Ronda will defend her title against the winner of an eight-woman Gauntlet Match that starts right now. The first two opponents are Alicia Fox and Bayley.

We see a vignette for Kevin Owens, who is returning soon.

She says that neither Woman's title has never headlined a dual-branded PPV, and with both brands backstage, she is going to walk around backstage and collect receipts, as there are debts to be repaid when The Man comes around.

Elias is in the ring. He says that guitars may as well be added to the tables, ladders and chairs for tonight, and having climbed the ladder to stardom once already, he is now climbing the ladder to one of his prized guitars tonight. Once he does, he will play a tune on Bobby Lashley that he will never forget. He then decided to play "Do You Know The Way To San Jose?" for the San Jose, California crowd. Before he can get started, however, Lashley and Lio Rush show up. Lio Rush says that Elias is once again sadly mistaken, saying nobody came to see him; instead, everyone came to see Lashley. This starts the Ladder Match.

Before the next match, Baron Corbin says he understands there have been complains about his performance at General Manager-Elect and that he takes them seriously and that he listens to the fans. He then tells the fans that's too bad about the complaints, and after referee Heath Slater counts to ten, he will beat Braun Strowman by forfeit. Heath counts, and Corbin counts with him, but at the count of six, Strowman shows up with his right arm in a sling. Strowman takes the microphone and tells Corbin that he forgot to mention something very important: there are no disqualifications in a TLC Match. If someone sick and tired of Corbin wants to help him, it is perfectly legal. All of a sudden, Apollo Crews shows up with a steel chair, as does Bobby Roode, Chad Gable and Finn Balor, who also have steel chairs. Referee Heath Slater also takes his referee's shirt off and throws it at him, and all five men gang up on Corbin. Corbin retreats, and when he makes his way to the stage, Kurt Angle shows up. Angle picks up a steel chair and attacks Corbin as soon as Corbin charges at him, and drives him back into the ring. Everyone then begins to get their offense in on Baron Corbin one by one, then Slater puts his shirt on so that Strowman can cover Corbin for the win. Braun Strowman beats Baron Corbin and earns a shot at the WWE Universal Championship at Royal Rumble, and Baron Corbin is no longer Raw General Manager. (Had Corbin won, he would have become permanent Raw General Manager.)

Natalya beats Ruby Riott in a Tables Match after pulling out a table with Ruby Riott's image pasted on it and powerbombing her through it from the middle rope. During the match, Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan are also put through tables by Natalya.

During the match, Dolph Ziggler superkicks Drew McIntyre at ringside behind referee John Cone's back, and comes at him with a steel chair only to get it booted into his face.
