Daniel Bryan is already in the ring at the start of tonight's show. Daniel says he can feel the excitement boiling inside of him, as he has accomplished a lot in WWE but has never won a Royal Rumble match and went on to WrestleMania, and nobody knows how life-changing it is more than him. He says that to do it one more time means to outlast and eliminate 29 other men, then admits he does not know how many WrestleMania moments he has left before saying he must win the Royal Rumble match to make it to WrestleMania one more time. As Daniel says that Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Otis) has made him ready for anything and everything in the Royal Rumble match, "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles and Omos show up. Styles says he will be the one tossing 29 other men over the top rope to earn his rightful spot at WrestleMania, then Daniel Bryan asks Styles what he is doing. Omos says it is "the quarterly brand-to-brand invitational" before Styles says he is "the gatekeeper for Raw." Styles says that as he has gone to Raw, others have tried to follow in his footsteps, but they have to go through him first, and he has crushed all of their dreams. He then says Daniel Bryan is not dressed for the ring and has "one foot out the door." Daniel says he does not have one foot out of anything, then challenges Styles to a match. Styles says he has gotten ready for Sunday by beating everyone on Raw and would love to have one more warm-up with Daniel Bryan on SmackDown before shoving Daniel. When Daniel gets back up, Omos stands directly in front of him, and Daniel tells Styles that if he was a real man with any guts whatsoever, he would show up for their match without Omos, then says he will stick kick Styles' ass with or without Omos.

Bianca says she will never apologize for being herself, and while Bayley is not her role model, she admits she is good, and that beating her after all that has happened is the biggest win of her career. She says that the only thing better than beating Bayley is winning the women's Royal Rumble match and bringing the "EST" to WrestleMania.

Kevin says Roman has won twice because of his family, but says that Sunday is Last Man Standing and that there is nothing Roman or his family can do to keep him from standing up and be last man standing. Paul Heyman tells Owens he will not address Roman in a disrespectful and irreverent manner, then Owens asks Roman if he will let Heyman "rehash the same crap he has done for everyone else." Roman, deciding to see what makes Owens tick, asks him about his family, and asks him about his father. Owens says his father is a great man, then tells Roman to watch where he is going. Roman asks if he is a smart man, to which Owens says yes. Owens then tells Roman to watch where he goes next, then Roman says he wants to understand why Owens does not see his own limitations before saying that his father did not teach him, stating that Owens is just a pawn and is not bred for the business while he is a king. Roman says Owens is un-equipped and inferior and not Universal Championship material, and that Owens' family is to blame. He says that Owens is a fool for thinking he has a chance, and if Owens is a fool, so is his father and his father's father. Owens says his parents and grandparents are and were important to him for being there in his career since the beginning, and again tells Roman to watch where he goes next. Roman says that Owens still does not understand, and that when he meets his grandparents again, he will know. Roman then calls Owens a disgrace to his family. Owens says the only thing his parents and grandparents would want him to acknowledge Roman as is a pretentious jackass who only wants to hear what he wants to hear, while he sees himself as what his family really sees him as. Roman then turns the monitor on his side of the discussion off as Owens says he will be last man standing.

Brie and Birdie meet with Bryan at the airplane in Napa Valley and move to their new home. Brie says that the new home - which she is seeing in person for the first time - is true to the pictures, and she hopes that Nikki is as lucky with her new home.

At Artem's house, Nikki gets a call from Brie. Nikki says she tried to set up a date with Artem, but it did not go so well as she came off as grumpy, and says that she did not mention what she is going through with Artem because he did not want to stress him out.

At Brie and Bryan's new house, Brie and Bryan talk about getting both of their families to live nearby. Bryan notes that this is nothing new, as Brie and Nikki usually do this.

At Artem's house, Artem returns from Dancing With The Stars. Nikki talks about getting things done and seeing Brie's new house, but Artem wants to stay in Los Angeles. Nikki mentions that she is always alone when Artem is out. Artem mentions that Nikki has yet to see her new house - which Nikki wants to be at for a few weeks - in person.

At Brie and Bryan's house, Nikki shows up to visit and check out the house as well as to get some time away from Los Angeles. Nikki notes she is tired, but Brie says they will be able to see each other every day soon enough.

Brie, Nikki and JJ spend time together in Napa Valley. Brie and Nikki try to get JJ to move to Napa, but JJ feels he cannot get a house in Napa. As for Kathy, JJ says that Kathy is "an Arizona girl." Nikki gets a call from Artem, and mentions that she has yet to see her new home. Nikki says she is sacred of having "buyer's remorse" and the house not being what she expected it to be.

Brie, Nikki and JJ see Nikki's new home in person for the first time. The three of them agree that the house looks ugly, and Nikki feels the house is worse than what she had in Phoenix.

After Nikki tells Artem they made a mistake, Nikki finds a house that she feels would be perfect for Kathy, and everyone is impressed. As they check the house out, Kathy calls, but Kathy is not interested.

Brie and Nikki check out some grapes at the Hill Valley Estates Vineyard. Nikki tells Brie she has not talked with Artem yet, and says that she regrets trying to make Artem after he was cut from Dancing With The Stars and resents that he is happy and she is not. Nikki says she is exhausted, and has the feeling that she and Artem are not meant to be even though she wants to make it work. Brie is concerned, as she has never seen her sister in such a bad way. As Nikki leaves to feed Matteo, Brie feels Artem has yet to figure out what is going on, and calls Artem to tell him about the post-partum depression and why she has yet to tell him. Artem feels frustrated with himself because he did not see the signs that Nikki was depressed and does not want Nikki to feel like she is right now.

Brie, Nikki and JJ are spending time together when Artem sends a text message saying that if Nikki wants him to quit Dancing With The Stars, he can. Brie admits she told Artem about Nikki's post-partem depression, and Nikki gets upset at Brie for butting into her relationship, saying she wanted to tell Artem herself before walking off. JJ tells Brie that she should have let Nikki handle things on her own, given that she is in a fragile state.

At Nikki's hotel room, JJ shows up. He agrees that Brie overstepped her boundaries, then says Artem will understand if she tells him.

Brie and Nikki check out a potential wine tasting room. They apologize to each other over the call to Artem.

At Nikki's house, Artem suddenly shows up. Artem tells Nikki he did not quit the show, and decided to spend his day off to spend time with Nikki. Nikki tells Artem about her post-partum depression and having to spend time alone at home with Matteo, as well as resenting Artem for being happy while she is not. She says that she did not want to stress Artem out, but Artem tells Nikki she should have told him and that he will always put family first, and apologizes for making Nikki feel neglected.

Brie, Bryan and Birdie do some yoga. Bryan asks Brie if she will be okay while he is gone. Brie says she will be okay, and that she will not pressure anybody in the family to move to Napa.

Four weeks later at Brie and Bryan's house, Nikki and Artem show up with the Dancing With The Stars mirrorball trophy. Brie looks back on the journeys that she, Nikki, Kathy and Artem went through throughout the season. Nikki announces she and Artem will get married around Thanksgiving 2021. Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for January 22, 2021

Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman head to the ring to start tonight's show. Roman says Kevin Owens will not be sending him a message because he will not be here tonight, because he said so. He also says Owens and Adam Pearce did not outsmart him, as that kind of thinking is beneath him and that Pearce is scared. He says that he does not miss an appearance and that he puts in a work, and that it took his health being at risk during a pandemic to cause him to miss an appearance. Roman then mocks Pearce again for mentioning his own injuries and says his back hurts from carrying WWE for years. Pearce shows up, saying Roman and Heyman have gone too far and out of control, but Roman says Pearce is out of control for putting Owens back in the main event and favoring him and has the audacity to mention his own injuries when he is standing next to him. Roman says that his injuries have never stopped him from reaching him the top, and says that Pearce never made it to the top of WWE because he is weak. Heyman laughs, but Pearce tells him that while he will take this from Roman, he will not take it from him. Roman tells Heyman that Pearce has disrespected him and in turn disrespected Roman and tells Heyman to put Pearce in his place, and when Heyman says he will whup his ass before proposing a match between him and Pearce after saying that a verbal agreement is legal and binding in the state of Florida. Pearce shakes his hand, and tells him his challenge - and verbal agreement - is accepted.

He is then interrupted by Charlotte Flair and Asuka.

Daniel Bryan heads to the ring. Daniel says he is excited for the Royal Rumble and says that the many things and feelings about it makes him feel alive despite the risks and uncertainties, as the winner gets to main event WrestleMania. Daniel says he is proud of his career and has accomplished a lot, but he has never won a Royal Rumble match. Suddenly, Cesaro shows up. Cesaro says he thought he beat some sense into Daniel, but Daniel is talking about winning the Royal Rumble match. He tells Daniel that he is winning the Royal Rumble, not Daniel, and Daniel proposes they put the microphones down and fight. Cesaro says no and says that he is tired of proving himself doing the same thing over and over again, then issues an open challenge to anyone else who has declared for the men's Royal Rumble match. Dolph Ziggler shows up and says he has been in a lot of Royal Rumbles and that he can go all night long, and aside from himself and Robert Roode, nobody can go toe to toe with him except Cesaro. Ziggler says he wants to win the Royal Rumble and get paid, and tells Cesaro to consider his challenge accepted.

Cesaro beats Dolph Ziggler.

Sasha Banks beats a very acrobatic Reginald with the Banks Statement.

Backstage, Paul Heyman tells Roman Reigns that he is brilliant and that they got Adam Pearce, but Roman tells Heyman that he wanted him to tear Pearce apart verbally and not physically, and tells him to be a man and handle his business. Heyman is shocked.

Apollo Crews beats Big E by disqualification after Sami Zayn - who has been handcuffed to the barricade all show - un-cuffs himself and hits Apollo with a Helluva Kic. Big E retains the WWE Intercontinental Championship. After the match, Big E also gets a Helluva Kick and says that he is the true Intercontinental Champion.

It is announced that Roman Reigns has left the arena. We then hear from Kevin Owens, who says that he could not enter the arena because Roman Reigns pulled some strings so he could not enter. Owens tells Roman there will be no more strings to pull at Royal Rumble when they settle things once and for all. He tells Roman that he cannot stop fighting, as Roman has yet to beat him like he claims he has while Owens has strong family members - both alive and deceased - to fight for.

Backstage, The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) are carrying a fruit basket when they see Sonya Deville. Before they give her the fruit basket, they ask for a SmackDown tag team title rematch. Sonya Deville then mentions that Montez Ford is still recovering from a leg injury, and tells The Street Profits to take some time off and keep doing their funny segments before getting back in the game.

Michael Cole introduces Bianca Belair and Bayley for Bayley's Ultimate Obstacle Course. Bayley takes the microphone and briefly explains the rules and layout. Bayley then goes first. Bayley goes around the ramps rather than over them, but she beats the course in 1:12 (one minute, twelve seconds). Bayley then makes the course harder on Bianca, making the hurdles bigger. Bianca then finds out she has to lift Otis for the Fireman's Carry instead of Chad Gabe, and Bayley plays defense at the basketball course only to fail miserably. Bianca wins with 17 seconds to go. After the competition, Bayley hits Bianca in the gut with the basketball and attacks her before throwing her into the basketball hoop.

Before the next match, Paul Heyman trips on his way up the ring steps. He then says "Card subject to change," then Roman Reigns shows up to fight Adam Pearce. As Roman attacks Pearce, a man in a black hoodie shows up and attacks Roman. This is Kevin Owens, and Roman and Owens fight. Their fight ends up in the ring, where Owens counters a superman Punch with a Stunner. Officials show up to try in vain to keep Owens away from Roman, but Owens keeps attacking Roman and hits him with another Stunner. Owens then puts Roman through the announce table with a pop-up powerbomb to end the show.
