Generation NXT 2.0 - NXT 2.0 recap for April 5, 2022

Bron Breakker heads to the ring to start tonight's show. Breakker says his first WrestleMania weekend had a lot of ups and downs, as he got to induct his father and uncle, The Steiner Brothers, into the WWE Hall of Fame, came up short against Dolph Ziggler, then went to WrestleMania and saw great Superstars in the ring. He says that he knew he would main event WrestleMania one day and that he would not leave Dallas, Texas without the NXT Championship, and then he went to Raw, beat Ziggler for the NXT Championship, and brought the title back where it belongs. Suddenly, Imperium (Gunther, Fabian Aichner, Marcel Barthel) heads to the ring, and Gunther tells Breakker that nobody cares about his story and that all he cares about is the NXT Championship, which he says stands for being the best in NXT. He tells Breakker that he cannot call himself the best until he steps into the ring with him, and Breakker tells him that if he wants a match, he has it tonight. The Creed Brothers (Julius and Brutus Creed) then show up before the show fades to commercial.

Cameron Grimes heads to the ring. Grimes says "We did it," and that he made good on his promise to his late father, who he says is smiling ear to ear. He says people talk about climbing the ladder to society, and at Stand & Deliver, he did just that and time stood still as all the moments of his father giving his blood, sweat and tears for the business and making him the man that he is now came back. He says that he busted his ass for the past three years to prove his father right when he said he deserved to be a WWE Superstar, then says that he will not become complacent and will do everything he can to take the championship to the moon. Suddenly, Solo Sikoa shows up and congratulates Cameron Grimes, then tells him that he made a good promise to his father when he won the title before telling him the hard part where he has to hold on to it has come. He says that championship run through his bloodline, and tells Grimes that a champion needs a challenger and that that challenger is him. Grimes says he respects Solo Sikoa, as he sees a man who has fought every day to be in this moment, and as champion, that means he has to beat people like him. He then says "Uce...you're on." They shake hands, then Sikoa draws him closer for a staredown.

Galanti tells D'Angelo that there is a card on the table with his blood on it, which means he has taken the unbreakable oath of the Don. He says that if he follows the oath, he leaves on his feet; if he betrays the oath, he leaves on his back. He says the code of silence can never be broken, and if he breaks it, he will burn in hell. WrestleMania is 60 days away!

For the next two weeks, NXT will be live on SyFy Network.

When Mandy declines, Kay Lee Ray threatens to bash her brains in with her baseball bat. Mandy tells her to put the bat down. She does. Gigi and Jacy leave. Kay Lee Ray says she is the longest reigning women's champion of the modern era, and if anyone deserves a title shot, it is her. Mandy mentions her accolades before becoming NXT Women's Champion, something women want to be and something men wish they were with. Kay Lee Ray says this is nothing compared to in-ring skills, saying she was dominating a country for 629 days while Mandy was sliding at WrestleMania and "sucking off Otis' face." Mandy says she is now everything WWE wants and needs in a women's champion, then tells Kay Lee Ray that all the talent in the world will never replace what she has. Kay Lee Ray says she will have her title shot by the end of the night, and when Mandy says "Doubtful," Kay Lee Ray slaps her. Gigi and Jacy charge the ring, but Kay Lee Ray chases them off with her baseball bat.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Cora Jade, who says she wants to prove to Raquel Gonzalez that she is tough enough and ready to win the women's Dusty Cup, and that the only thing in the way is Raquel doubting her. In footage from outside of the arena from moments ago, Mandy Rose says Kay Lee Ray does not deserve a title shot because she is not even on her level. He says that he is addicted to hurting people and making them suffer, as Dante Chen learned first hand, and that he strikes as soon as possible and makes his own luck.

In the locker room, Bron Breakker is met by Tommaso Ciampa, who tells him that the top is a lonely place and that nobody knows until they've been there, and that Breakker now understands. He wants to make sure Breakker remains NXT Champion. Breakker says that tonight, they will take care of business by tearing Legado del Fantasma in half and kicking some ass.

Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams head to the ring. Trick Williams says that Cameron Grimes is not ready for the "A-Champion," and Carmelo Hayes says that while the old him would verbally put Grimes in the grave because the fans do not care about Grimes, the new him sees Cameron Grimes sees him as a threat. He says he is going harder in the gym, putting more time in the ring and hanging out with OlliJay more because that is what the "A-Champion" does, because he sets the bar on the show and he is always looking down on Cameron Grimes. Cameron Grimes shows up and says he had to come out here after saying the fans don't care about him, saying that the fans are chanting for him. Trick Williams threatens to beat Grimes up, then makes fun of his and Cameron Grimes' hair and hanging out with OllyJay with Spongebob Squarepants jokes. Trick Williams threatens to beat Grimes up again, but Grimes asks who he is fighting. Backstage, Malik Blade and Edris Enofe try to come up with a team name. Once again, Edris Enofe is fixated on Mandy Rose, and when Enofe asks Malik to close her eyes and try to think of what he would say to Mandy, Mandy shows up and falls into his arms. He then says he will pay Von Wagner's fines again and again because he is the future and a future champion, then says that this is Von Wagner's world, and Von Wagner says we are all just living in it.

In footage from earlier today, Tiffany Stratton says NXT is for athletes, not people like Wendy Choo, and says that if she can beat Wendy, she can go shopping on her daddy's dime. Amari Miller says she will think about it.

We see a vignette of Nikkita Lyons, who says that she grew up the daughter of a rock star and a groupie and travelled the world, and while she learned from shady club owners, that road has taken her here. He then says that he has an appropriate replacement tonight, then Odyssey Jones shows up. Wes Lee says the last time they were here, they lost the NXT tag team titles, but Nash Carter said they went on a beautiful journey, met Matt Riddle, and are flying higher than ever. Riddle appears on the TitanTron from his home and apologizes for not being there, saying he will be there in spirit like a higher power and that it is their destiny to reclaim the NXT tag team titles from Imperium (Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel). Wes Lee calls out Imperium, then Imperium shows up. Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel speak their native languages at first, then Barthel says MSK can do their thing all they want, as they will never be able to touch them. He says the tag team titles will stay with the very best team the tag team division has ever seen, and that they will stay where they belong: with Imperium. Nash Carter says that if Imperium are feeling spicy, they can put the tag team titles on the line right now. Suddenly, Walter shows up on the TitanTron and calls MSK "everything wrong" with wrestling and a disgrace to the mat. He says that Aichner and Barthel treat the tag team titles with dignity and respect and that all they deserve is a beating, but Riddle also appears on the TitanTron and ups the ante by making it a six-man tag team next week. Diamond Mine is introduced first, followed by Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams. As Malcolm Bivens says that Hayes and Trick could not make it, Hayes and Trick show up. Trick shuts Bivens up before saying that Strong will not be champion for much longer and that Hayes will stomp a mudhole in him. After Bivens translate for Strong, Strong tells Bivens to tell them he will beat Hayes' ass, and Biven translates for Trick. Trick gets mad at Bivens, then Barrett has to admit he has no idea what anyone is saying. After Barrett reigns things in, Hayes tells Strong that when he shoots and does not miss, it is a lifestyle and not a catchphrase, and warns Strong that he will put him on a T-shirt and that there is no different between Strong and all his other opponents. Hayes then says he will take the Cruiserweight Championship and unify it with the North American Championship by any means necessary because he is the most scintillating champion. Strong admits he is impressed by Hayes' words, but at New Year's Evil, it will be a great day for the both of them, saying he will be a two-time North American Champion while Hayes is carried out and known as "Humbled Hayes." Strong signs the contract, then Hayes does the same. Barrett then gets out of the ring with the contract after thanking both men, then Bivens says Lumis beating Trick's ass was "bout it bout it." Bron goes for a microphone, but Ciampa says he does not need it, as he knows what Bron is going to say. He says that Bron Breakker made a statement after what he did to him and that he has earned another shot at the NXT Championship on the big stage. Ciampa then says he agrees with Breakker, saying he deserves the NXT Championship. He then says that he hopes Breakker does not drown again like he did the first time, and that in two weeks, Breakker will get his second opportunity. Ciampa then tells Breakker to remember what he said about jumping into the deep end, as he exposed him for his inexperience both in the ring and in life, as there is no replacement for time and experience and he is not ready to be champion in his NXT. Ciampa says his contemporaries spent ten years getting to WWE and another ten perfecting their craft while Breakker has ten to twenty matches, and says that while he is doing great, he does not know if he is ready for superstardom. He says that just like at Halloween Havoc, just one slip-up on the rope could end it all, and while nothing could be better than Breakker winning the title on his own at New Years' Evil and showing it to his family, Ciampa is the reality that will stop that. As Ciampa is that reality, Ciampa slaps Breakker, and Breakker lifts him high into the air before placing him feet-first on the ground, taking the NXT Championship and telling Ciampa that blood is in the water and that the shark will eat him alive in two weeks.

Cora Jade says "Not if I get there first," then Mandy Rose shows up on the TitanTron in front of a pool and says that both Raquel and Cora are envious of what she has done for NXT before saying she will make it a Triple Threat Match for the NXT Women's Championship at New Year's Evil. We hear from Joe Gacy and Harland. Joe Gacy says it has been put upon Harland's heart to apologize for his actions last week, as he is a very sensitive man and too shaken up to speak on it, yet regret is written all over his face. He says that The Brian Kendrick triggered an emotion that took Harland back to a time when people did not like him as much as he does, and while they do not condone violence, Kendrick put his hands on Harland and called him a freak as they did as they were told. Gacy says that Kendrick may have nobody to blame but himself, but he is not here to make that argument and hope everyone grows from this experience.

Suddenly, "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles is seen heading into the building, and Grayson Waller sits in the chair and waits for him.

He says the new guys are young and hungry, but he is their age and more hungry and will not let anyone stand in his way. He says Tony D'Angelo thinks he had one up on him, but that was before last week, and he will prove to D'Angelo he is the baddest in NXT and that D'Angelo will never forget it.

After the commercial break, Grayson Waller mocks everyone who thanks everyone including the fans when they are inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame, then says that when he is inducted, he will say "I told you so." Before Waller can say much else, "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles shows up. Waller says Styles coming to NXT is part of "The Grayson Waller Effect," then Styles tells him to shut up before calling him "the biggest jackass in NXT." Styles says he has heard what Grayson said on Instagram, and Grayson says he is so great he got Styles' attention before asking Styles why he is here before concluding that his meal ticket (Omos) left him last night and he needs a new one. Styles says Grayson called him out to get the rub, then says Grayson dresses so similarly to him that he does not know who he is watching. He admits that Grayson is cocky and has potential, but he does not see him as a potential Superstar. Styles says the jury is still out on Grayson and that Grayson's problem is that he would rather look good and lose than look bad and win. Grayson says he always look good before bragging about his win at WarGames. Styles says Grayson is more concerned about "swipes and likes," but Grayson says that he does not have Omos and says he could end Styles right now if he wanted to. Styles dares him to do it after having three good weeks, daring him to be phenomenal for more than twenty years in the process. Grayson teases fighting Styles, but leaves the ring and says he will let Omos get him first before he gets next.

The pot is at $18,000. The river card is a Seven of Hearts. Grimes tells Duke that he has everything to make himself a big-time player, but drops the ball when it counts. He says now is the chance to show how big his balls are, and goes all in. Grimes then asks Duke if his balls are raisins or cantaloupes as Duke is about to make a decision, and this causes a "raisins" chant. Duke is unnerved by Grimes' smile, thinking he has a flush. He then says he will not get him again, then folds despite having a 100% chance of winning. Duke then finds out that Grimes did not have a flush at all. Generation NXT - NXT recap for July 20, 2021

Samoa Joe heads to the ring to start tonight's show. He tells Karrion Kross that he has come to smack his clock, then NXT General Manager William Regal shows up and tells Joe that this is not what he had in mind, and tells him he cannot call out Superstars. Joe reminds Regal of the "unless provoked" agreement, but Regal tells Joe that he was in a referee capacity, not a management one. Joe tells him that semantics do not matter and that Kross needs to be put under control. Regal tells Joe that Kross is on his way and that all hell will not break loose, as Joe will handle this peacefully. Joe tells Regal it will be the end of this, but he will not guarantee it will be peaceful and that tonight, someone will be going to sleep.

We hear from Xia Li, who says she has been waiting for this moment, as it is the most important of her career and she will be NXT Women's Champion. She plans to do to Raquel Gonzalez what she did to Mercedes Martinez, and leave tonight as the first Chinese NXT Women's Champion.

In backstage footage from earlier today, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory. Gargano says he has been better, but he is doing okay. Meanwhile, Kyle O'Reilly shows up and confronts Austin Theory for his comments about him. Kyle O'Reilly then challenges Austin Theory to a match, and Theory accepts. Gargano then tells Theory he is on his own tonight, telling him he got himself into this and that he will have to get himself out of it.

For the next two weeks, NXT will be moving to Tuesday nights on SyFy at 8 PM Eastern/7 PM Central.

In footage from earlier today, Wade Barrett interviews Bronson Reed. Reed calls winning the NXT North American Championship a big moment in his life, but suddenly, he was no longer champion. He says he has to push forward and fight harder than ever. Regarding his match with Adam Cole next week, everyone considers Cole the best, and he wants to face the best. He says he shut Cole down for running his mouth, and next week, he will finish the job.

Kyle O'Reilly beats Austin Theory after O'Reilly snaps, unloads a flurry of offense on Theory and puts him in the heel hook. After the match, the referee has to break the hold.

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez. Raquel says that Xia Li will not fulfill her destiny, and Dakota says that Raquel will destroy Xia Li for taking the spotlight from them last week. Raquel says that Tian Sha (Xia Li, Boa, Mei Ying) does not scare her, and that when she is done, there will be no one left.

Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, Raul Mendoza) is in the ring for a mariachi celebration, but Santos Escobar says that he will not need the mariachi band tonight. He then says that he was going to give the fans a taste of his musical heritage, but he changed his mind. Escobar says he will not lower himself to entertain the fans, for they are not worth it, and says he will not do "the Hit Row thing" to embarrass himself in a battle of styles, as his style is being the true and real champion. He then says he will take the NXT North American Championship and hold it with respect, then Hit Row (Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, Ashante "Thee" Adonis, Top Dolla, B-Fab) shows up. Ashante "Thee" Adonis says Escobar is "talkin' spicy," then B-Fab calls mariachi music "trash." Top Dolla says he is like Pablo Escobar, and says that he smells cats when he sees Legado del Fantasma. Top Dolla then makes fun of Legado del Fantasma's height before Swerve calls winning the North American Championship payback for Swerve keeping him from winning the Cruiserweight Championship, then makes fun of how Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza joined Legado del Fantasma and says he will make Escobar his bitch. Escobar tells Swerve he can make "nursery rhymes" all night, as he is taking the North American Championship to Mexico. Hit Row enters the ring, and both groups brawl. Escobar grabs a guitar, but B-Fab takes it away and hands it to Swerve. Escobar ducks the guitar and runs away, but Swerve catches Joaquin Wilde getting in the ring. Wilde is quickly surrounded and outnumbered, and he ends up the victim of a guitar shot to the back.

Marcel Barthel says the mat is sacred to them, and Fabian Aichner calls the rest of the tag team division an embarrassment. After Barthel says that they will protect the sanctity of pro wrestling by any means necessary, the fans miss out on the meaning of "MSK."

We hear from Pete Dunne and Oney Lorcan. Pete Dunne says he dared anyone who thinks they are badder or a better technician to step up, and Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher did. He and Oney then challenge them to a match. Oney Lorcan says he is down for a scrap, and that next week, he and Dunne will see how tough Thatcher and Ciampa really are.

Drake Maverick beats LA Knight after Maverick shoves Knight's head into the Million Dollar Championship as Knight demands that Cameron Grimes hold it up in the air at ringside at all times. Drake Maverick takes advantage of this and shoves Knight's head into the championship to get the win. After the match, Knight attacks Maverick, then blames Grimes for the loss. An angry Grimes then pulls Knight off Maverick and tells him the match is over, but Knight tells Grimes to attack Maverick. Grimes walks away, but Knight throws Grimes back into the ring and tells him to uphold their deal. A reluctant Grimes then punches Maverick in the face, then Knight celebrates.

Outside of the arena, Samoa Joe runs towards a black sports car and pulls the driver out. The driver tells him that Karrion Kross is already here and is out front.

Next week: Carmelo Hayes vs. Josh Briggs in the NXT Breakout Tournament!

Raquel Gonzalez retains the NXT Women's Championship against Xia Li. During the match, Xia Li is hurt, and medical staff have to check on her. Xia Li is soon released back into the match by medical staff, but this allows Raquel Gonzalez to hit Xia Li with a choke slam and retain. After the match, Samoa Joe gets in the ring and calls out Karrion Kross, who tells him that there will be a reckoning and that he will stomp him all over the arena. Karrion Kross appears on the TitanTron and says this is not the same world he walked out of, that this is his NXT and that this is his future, and that the NXT Championship allows him to do whatever he wants, including hurting General Manager William Regal, who is knocked out. As Joe runs to the back, Kross asks Joe if he thinks he is still in control, then drives off. An angry Joe barely misses Kross on his way out.
