Raw Deal - Raw recap for January 4, 2020

The show starts with a shot of the "H-Phone," which is just like a smartphone, then Hulk Hogan asks what one will do when Hulkamania, the H-Phone and Legends Night runs wild.



It's time for Miz TV. The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) are introduced as the first guests for tonight. Kofi mentions that he and Woods have a new talk show called "New Day Talks," then he and Woods proceed to take over Miz TV before Kofi asks Miz if he has any new year's resolutions. Morrison gives his own, but not Miz. Miz refuses to answer questions, even though Morrison does, and Miz finally becomes furious at The New Day before Teddy Long suddenly shows up. Teddy Long then puts The Miz and John Morrison in a match against The Undertaker, but Adam Pearce shows up and says The Undertaker is retired. Teddy then puts Miz and Morrison in a tag team match against The New Day.



The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E) beat The Miz and John Morrison after Kofi Kingston stops John Morrison from putting his feet on the middle ropes on a schoolkid pin.



Backstage, Charly Caruso interviews Randy Orton, who says that his voices told him to drop the match and watch Alexa Bliss burn, but he could not do it because something in him changed after he faced The Fiend. He says that for showing Alexa Bliss compassion and mercy, he hates himself, but he knows that he can mold and sculpt that hate, for there are no boundaries and he knows he is capable of anything. He then proposes directing that new-found hatred towards someone else, then decides to go for a walk to meet some old friends and remind them why he is "The Legend Killer."



During TikTok's New Year's Eve livestream celebration, R-Truth was pinned by Angel Garza, who became the WWE 24/7 Championship. In the fracas, Xavier Woods' trombone is broken.

Backstage, Angel Garza meets Alicia Fox, who says that Garza knows nothing about beautiful before leaving. Garza then meets Sgt. Slaughter, Mickie James and Tatanka. Garza hands Mickie a rose, then Slaughter takes the rose, smells it and says "Maggot" gruffly to Garza.

"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles beats Elias. After the match, Jaxson Ryker tries to attack Styles from behind with a guitar, but Omos gets in the ring and kicks the guitar so hard that it breaks, scaring Ryker and Elias away. (Before the match, it is announced that Omos' name is pronounced "oh-MAHSS."



In footage from earlier today, Sarah Schreiber interviews Charlotte Flair, who tells the women entering the Royal Rumble not to listen to the critics, as she defied the critics to win the Rumble and plans to do it again this year.

Backstage, Matt Riddle proposes Big Show call himself "The Big Bro" prior to his match tonight. When Riddle leaves, Randy Orton shows up, but Big Show refuses to let Orton get in his head as Orton says his career is over they after their last match.



Lacey Evans and Peyton Royce beat Charlotte Flair and Asuka after "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair inadvertently trips Charlotte. After the match, Charlotte is furious with Ric.



Backstage, Sheamus and Drew McIntyre get ready for tonight, and Sheamus tells McIntyre to give Keith lee a big kick in the face for him before they meet Jimmy Hart and Hulk Hogan. Hogan wishes McIntyre all the luck in the world, and tells him he is proud of how McIntyre has held the WWE flag in a difficult time and that McIntyre reminds him of himself. After everyone compares Sheamus to Jimmy, McIntyre and Hogan pose together.



Matt Riddle beats Bobby Lashley. During the match, Lashley makes Riddle tap to the Hurt Lock, but due to Riddle rebounding off the middle rope before tapping, the referee could not see the tap out. As Lashley and MVP are upset, Riddle pins Lashley with a schoolkid pin.



Backstage, "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry talks with Ricochet. After Ricochet leaves, Randy Orton shows up and says he is entering the men's Royal Rumble again before making fun of him for riding a scooter. Orton tells Henry he owes him a lot of receipts, but says that he will give him a pass if he wheels out of the arena. Mark Henry leaves.



Backstage, Charly Caruso interviews MVP and Bobby Lashley. MVP says that Lashley was robbed of a victory, and Lashley says that he will punish Matt Riddle when he gets his hands on him.

"The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler attacks Mandy Rose from behind before the start of the next match. Dana Brooke shows up and checks on Mandy Rose before confronting Baszler and daring her to face her in the ring.

Dana Brooke beats "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler after reversing the Kirifuda Clutch into a backside pin. After the match, Baszler keeps the Kirifuda Clutch locked in, but Mandy Rose gets back in the ring and hits Baszler with a knee before she and Dana hit Baszler with a double-team flapjack.



Irwin R. Schyster, Molly Holly and "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair are talking backstage when Randy Orton shows up to talk to Flair. Orton asks Flair to walk him to the ring tonight, then says he will not let him mess up his match like he did Charlotte Flair's. Ric wants none of it, and Orton tells Flair that he is not the man he once was and calls him "a pathetic old man."



Backstage, Matt Riddle talks with Keith Lee, wishing him luck.

Randy Orton beats Jeff Hardy after reversing the Twist of Fate into an RKO.



Backstage, The Lucha House Party (Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado) meet Melina, who happens to be a big fan of them.

The Lucha House Party (Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado) beat The Hurt Business (Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin) after Shelton Benjamin tags himself in, causing miscommunication between him and Cedric. After the match, MVP has to stand between them and get them back on the same page.



Backstage, Nikki Cross talks with Torrie Wilson. Suddenly, Angel Garza offers Torrie Wilson a rose. Torrie tells Garza that she has invited some popular pop stars to the show and leads him to a dark room where The Boogeyman is waiting for him. As Angel Garza is scared out of the room, R-Truth pins Garza with a schoolkid pin to win the WWE 24/7 Championship and walk away with Nikki and Torrie. Afterwards, Ron Simmons shows up and says "Damn!"



Drew McIntyre retains the WWE Championship against Keith Lee. After the match, McIntyre takes the microphone when Goldberg suddenly shows up. Goldberg says there is not a better representative of the WWE Championship, but tells him that while he has the size, speed and athleticism, the only thing he does not have is respect and says that McIntyre does not consider the legends a threat after considering himself in his pride to be better than all the legends on stage in their primes. Goldberg then says that he is not coming to pose a threat, but to challenge him for the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble. McIntyre, saying that Goldberg is getting inside his head, and after telling Goldberg to think back to twenty years ago, that he might as well be fighting his own dad. Goldberg shoves McIntyre to end the show.
