Final Impact - Impact Wrestling recap for January 5, 2020

Crazzy Steve beats KC Navarro, Blake Christian and Ace Austin in a four-way X Division match previewing the upcoming Super X Cup.

It is announced that Kenny Omega's bus is outside of the arena.

We hear from Sami Callihan, who says that everything has a purpose and that Eddie Edwards' is to show that anything is possible if you follow the rules while his is the opposite end of the spectrum: chaos for the sake of chaos and a reality check where the bad guy wins in the end. He tells Eddie to keep his wife Alisha away from ringside in their match tonight, for anything is possible.

We get another paid-for advertisement from Tony Schiavone and Tony Khan. They run down the card for New Year's Smash Night 1, then Khan reminds Don Callis that he has provided everything but the wrestling for AEW and that he is a patron of wrestling.

On Kenny Omega's tour bus, Don Callis talks about Omega and The Good Brothers' ("The Big LG" Doc Gallows and "Machine Gun" Karl Anderson) match at Hard To Kill, saying they have to win, and Omega says Rich Swann and The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley) do not have the chemistry that he and The Good Brothers do.

Before the next match, Cousin Jake says the last few weeks have been the hardest due to Cody Deaner's betrayal and asks Cody to come back, then calls out Eric Young and Joe Doering alongside Rhino. Young and Doering come out with Cody Deaner - who comes out with a radical new appearance - and Young says that Cody does not answer to Jake before saying he has shown Cody the truth.

Cody Deaner and Joe Doering beat Cousin Jake and Rhino after Eric Young provides a distraction, allowing Cody Deaner to hit Cousin Jake with a low blow followed by the Deaner DDT. After the match, Eric Young, Cody Deaner and Joe Doering take the boots to Cousin Jake, and Young keeps Rhino from getting involved. Suddenly, Tommy Dreamer shows up with Kendo sticks and chases Young, Cody and Doering out of the ring. Tommy Dreamer then tells the three of them that the odds are even and challenges them to an Old School Rules six-man tag match at Hard To Kill.

Backstage, Gia Miller interviews Matthew Palmer, who says he is passionate to be a wrestler and not a security, that he did not mean to rip Moose's clothes and that he drove ten hours to get his foot in the door, and he can either go home a coward or face Moose in the ring and keep his pride. He says that the world will know who he is when he lasts three minutes with Moose.

Backstage, Acey Romero meets with Johnny Swinger, who tells him to talk with the Knockouts regarding who set Larry D up.

Deonna Purrazzo and Kimber Lee show up. Deonna says she does not understand what Taya Valkyrie's problem with them is, and says that Taya blamed them for being knocked out of the Knockouts Tag Team Tournament. She also says that she will prove she is everything she says she is when she beats Taya. She then asks if Taya will accept reality or continue down the path of delusion and denial. Suddenly, Taya and Rosemary show up. Taya says Deonna is delusional, then says that while Deonna's time in Impact is impressive, they have not faced off against each other and she has not forgotten about the Knockouts Championship. Deonna tells Taya that her husband is gone, her manager wants nothing to do with her and that Rosemary will soon be gone, then says that Taya's time is gone, that this is her era and her accolades will not matter. After shoving Kimber Lee down to the mat, Taya says she expected something more creative than a husband jab and says that Deonna knows she will humiliate her before ending "The Age of The Virtuosa" and introduce "La Era de la Wera."

Backstage, Rohit Raju meets with Chris Bey and forgives him for his weaseling his way into a title match, but Bey says they are not even until he is champ. Rohit tells Bey they have a common enemy in Manik and that if they can unmask him, it will be down to them. Rohit and Bey find TJ Perkins and ask him where Manik is, saying they have a tag team match with Manik in mind. TJ tells them that he and Manik do not get along, but will let Manik know.

Backstage, Tennille Dashwood meets with Rosemary, who makes it clear that she is not interested in tagging with Tennille.

Havok and Nevaeh beat Jordynne Grace and Jazz to advance to the finals of the Knockouts Tag Team Title Tournament.

Backstage, Gia Miller interviews Rich Swann and The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley). Chris Sabin says Impact was built on people like them, and that he hopes Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers ("The Big LG" Doc Gallows and "Machine Gun" Karl Anderson) are ready. Swann says he has the Machine Guns on his side, and tells Kenny Omega says he will not let a world champion from another company act like they run the place after all he has been through as they prove pride is forever when they bring the heat. Alex Shelley proposes the three of them head to Kenny Omega's tour bus and go to war with Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers right now.

Rich Swann and The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley) blow past the doorman to Kenny Omega's tour bus, but they are greeted with a beatdown by Omega and The Good Brothers ("The Big LG" Doc Gallows and "Machine Gun" Karl Anderson) outside of the bus as Don Callis watches.

Backstage, Jazz meets with Jordynne Grace, who apologizes for not winning the Knockouts tag titles. Jazz says she has no reason to apologize, as her time in Impact with the new generation was "once in a lifetime," but Jordynne asks if she has a little more left in the tank. Jordynne then proposes a match between the two of them at Genesis, to which Jazz accepts.

Backstage, Father James Mitchell tells Deonna Purrazzo and Kimber Lee that Su Yung is no longer Su Yung but also not "Susie." Instead, she is "Susan," a woman wearing office clothes and glasses.

Matthew Palmer lasts three minutes against Moose thanks to the distraction from Willie Mack.

"All Ego" Ethan Page tries to figure out what to do next, but someone tells him that life is just sending him on a different path. Suddenly, Ethan feels that Impact Wrestling is the problem, not him, then we find out that Ethan is talking to Karate Man. Karate Man says he has been listening to "a bitch" with no confidence, and as Ethan Page threatens to beat him up, Karate Man says he will do this on his own terms in the kumite at Hard To Kill. Ethan Page accepts Karate Man's challenge.

Eddie Edwards vs. Sami Callihan ends with the ref calling for the bell after both men shove him twice following minutes of ringside brawling before the bell finally rings. After the match, Eddie backs Callihan to the stage with a bat, but Callihan uses his phone to reveal that Alisha is locked behind a chain link fence backstage. Eddie runs backstage to look for Alisha, and when Eddie finally finds her, Alisha tells Eddie it is a trap. Eddie is attacked from behind by Ken Shamrock, and he and Sami Callihan tie Eddie to the chain link fence with barbed wire before Sami hits him with a baseball bat.
