Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for January 17, 2020

In memory of Rocky Johnson, 1944 - 2020.

Kane shows up to start tonight's show. He says that the Royal Rumble - his favorite event of the year - is nine days away, and thirty lost souls will put their minds, bodies and souls on the line for the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to compete at WrestleMania. He says that the match puts one through hell, but the reward is immortality. He talks about holding the record for most eliminations ever, and says he knows the importance of achieving this immortality. Kane also talks about how the hope of those he eliminates disappears when their feet hit the ground because of him, and admits that it was a lot of fun. Suddenly, Bray Wyatt shows up on the TitanTron. Bray is surprised to see Kane, then shames him for finding fun in another person's misery and tells him to take the time to say he is sorry before saying that he is glad to see him. Bray then announces that Ramblin' Rabbit is alive, well and recovering nicely, then we see Rambin' Rabbit on an IV feed briefly before trying to dissuade Kane away from taking part in the men's Royal Rumble match. Bray then realizes he has Kane's picture on the wall, then remembers that The Fiend and Kane squared off in the ring. Bray then says he will never forgive Kane, and neither will The Fiend. The lights go out, and when they come back on, Kane is out of the ring, but The Fiend comes out from underneath it. Kane turns around and looks at The Fiend, unperturbed, and asks "What took you so long?" All of a sudden, The Fiend is hit with a running drop kick by Daniel Bryan, and The Fiend tries to escape back underneath the ring. The Fiend escapes, but Daniel Bryan pulls out a few of The Fiend's dreadlocks in the process. Kane then partakes in "Yes!" chants along with Daniel Bryan in the ring.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Daniel Bryan, who says that The Fiend is only best at disappearing and running away, and that there is a way to beat someone who disappears every time he is in trouble. He admits it is not a good or smart idea, and proposes a Strap Match against The Fiend where both men go to war until one man wins. He knows that The Fiend will tear him apart, but he is done with his mind games and running. He says that The Fiend changed him, but at Royal Rumble, he will change The Fiend and win the WWE Universal Championship.

John Morrison beats Big E in his first WWE match in over eight years after taking Kofi Kingston out from the top rope and The Miz assists Morrison avoid Big E afterwards.

It is announced that if Roman Reigns beats Robert Roode tonight, he will be able to pick his stipulation for his match against King Corbin at Royal Rumble; if Roode wins, Corbin will be able to pick the stipulation for the match instead.

Backstage, The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) talk with Roman Reigns, who says that they will find out what stipulation he will pick for his match against King Corbin at Royal Rumble like everyone will after he wins tonight against Robert Roode. Roman then asks The Usos if they are ready for tonight themselves.

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) beat The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder).

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder). Referees have to break the brawl up.

Suddenly, Adam Pearce - one of the officials - shows up and puts Bayley in Sasha's place for the match. The match is non-title, but the match is still official and it is next.

Lacey Evans beats Bayley.

Backstage, Shorty G says that Sheamus will not get into his head with his mind games, for he has learned that when you accept and embrace who you are, you have won the hardest battle. As Shorty G says he will teach Sheamus that lesson, Sheamus shows up and tells him to keep his mouth shut or else he will kick his head up his shoulder. Shorty G takes Sheamus down and punches him until referees intervene. Sheamus is livid afterwards.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Braun Strowman, who is excited for the Royal Rumble as he declares himself for the match. He then says that he does not care what he has to do to get his opportunity at the WWE Intercontinental Championship anytime, any place.

Elias is in the ring. He says he has learned a lot about himself in the past year, and while he is the embodiment of WWE, he cannot do it on his own, and he needs the fans. He says there must be a truth that rings out from every voice in every arena if he is to go where he needs to go, then performs a song he calls "Walkin' in Greensboro." Before he can get started however, Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesrao and Sami Zayn interrupt him. Sami says what he has to say is far more important than Elias' song, that Shinsuke Nakamura does not back down from a fight and that Strowman is not getting a shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Sami says that he calls the shots and that Strowman is not in the position to demand anything, especially with the Royal Rumble on the horizon, then lets Elias go back to his song. Elias stops Sami, saying he was writing a song as Sami was talking called "Sami Zayn Needs To Shut His Damn Mouth" before deciding to perform it. Sami stops Elias before he can even get that song started, then sics Cesaro on him to show what happens to "funny guys." Elias fights back against Cesaro, then Nakamura and Sami get involved until Braun Strowman shows up. Sami retreats as Strowman overpowers Cesaro and Nakamura.

WWE pays tribute to "Soul Man" Rocky Johnson.

Heavy Machinery (Tucker and Otis) show up in Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville's corner for the next match.

Alexa Bliss beats Sonya Deville with a schoolkid pin after Mandy Rose gets on the top rope only to be pushed off - and into the arms of Otis - by Nikki Cross.

Backstage, King Corbin and Dolph Ziggler meets with Robert Roode and compliments him on his plan from last week, and agree that Roode will get Roman Reigns back. Roode says he will put Roman through a table tonight and give Corbin his stipulation. Corbin says he wants a match where he can humiliate Roman and take him out of the Royal Rumble, then says none of it will be possible until Roode puts Roman through a table.

The Strap Match for the WWE Universal Championship between Daniel Bryan and "The Fiend' Bray Wyatt, Sheamus vs. Shorty G and Lacey Evans vs. Bayley for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship are all official for Royal Rumble.

Roman Reigns beats Robert Roode in a Tables Match after The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) show up to counter the interference of King Corbin and Dolph Ziggler. As per pre-match stipulation, Roman Reigns earns the right to pick the stipulation for his match against King Corbin at Royal Rumble. After the match, Roman Reigns announces that his match with King Corbin at Royal Rumble will be a Falls Count Anywhere Match.

Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for December 20, 2019

Daniel Bryan shows up to start tonight's show. Daniel says he doesn't know what happened to him, and that he felt "The Fiend" viscerally rip out his beard and hair, and all he noticed is that the brand he created was gone, and when his daughter saw him without the long hair and beard, she cried. He says that while his daughter did not recognize him, he recognized himself, as he saw the man who had never been given opportunity, which became the man who kicked Bray Wyatt's ass. Daniel says that Bray Wyatt may have succeeded at changing him, but he will change Bray Wyatt, too, and calls out Bray saying that he will make him feel pain that he is unable to feel. Instead of Bray, Daniel gets The Miz. The Miz tells Daniel Bryan that what happened to him may have been awful, but Bray Wyatt attacked his family and that TLC was about protecting his family, which is something that Bray will never have. Miz says that Bray has nothing but puppets in his fantasy world, and that he will take away the one thing he treasures most: the Universal title. Suddenly, King Corbin shows up. Corbin mocks what The Miz was put through by Bray Wyatt, and says that if The Miz's daughter had a few more of his wife's genes, it would not have been as scary. He also makes fun of Daniel Bryan's daughter not recognizing Daniel, and says that Daniel's brand is failure. Corbin boasts about his win at TLC last Sunday, and "Here is your winner...King Corbin" is played over and over again before Corbin says that the next Universal Championship shot belongs to him, not Miz or Daniel. He also states that Miz and Daniel have failed as both Superstars and fathers. Miz and Daniel look at each other, toss away their microphone, then advance towards Corbin only to be superkicked from behind by Dolph Ziggler. Corbin then hits Daniel Bryan with End of Days.

The Miz and Daniel Bryan vs. King Corbin and Dolph Ziggler is official for later tonight.

Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviews Heavy Machinery (Tucker and Otis). Tucker says that he and Otis' spirits are not crushed after last week, and that Otis is a big man with a big heart. Otis says he likes giving out gifts, especially ham. Tucker says that they will win tonight, then Mandy Rose shows up. Mandy Rose says she saw what happened last week, then gives him a Christmas ham and a kiss before Heavy Machinery head to the ring.

Heavy Machinery (Tucker and Otis) beat The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) in a Miracle on 34th Street Fight.

Backstage, Otis is met by Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. Sonya leaves for her match, then Otis apologizes about the ham being thrown down on the floor during the last match. Mandy says it is all right and hugs him, then gets sweat all over her dress.

Elias says he knows that The Revival are frustrated and have put that frustration into song, in which he then proceeds to mock them and says that they will have to make a big change.

In the locker room, Sami Zayn meets with Braun Strowman and asks what he should get for him concerning the Secret Santa program. Strowman calls Sami out for verbally burying the holidays, then Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura show up. Strowman says that if Sami wants to give him something he wants, then he can give him an opportunity against Nakamura at the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Sami says Nakamura and Cesaro already have a match tonight, but he will keep it in mind.

Carmella beats Sonya Deville with the Code of Silence.

We hear from Sheamus, who says that all things that change and that change is good for the soul, but that change was not good for SmackDown because the soul left with him and SmackDown became soft, weak and small as a result. He then says that change will happen once again, because he is back to battle for the soul of SmackDown.

The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E) beat Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura after Kofi pins Cesaro with an inside cradle. After the match, Sami Zayn, Cesaro and Nakamura attack The New Day, then Braun Strowman shows up and takes Cesaro and Nakamura out. Sami Zayn has to rescue Nakamura from Strowman so that they can retreat.

In the locker room, The Miz thanks Daniel Bryan from saving him from Bray Wyatt's mallet. Daniel says he only did it for him and that he is sorry about what Bray did to him. After they argue over how much they hate each other, Miz says they have to work together. After that, the Universal title will be his.

Bayley beats Dana Brooke. After the match, Bayley and Sasha Brown verbally put Dana Brooke down, and Lacey Evans shows up and runs them out of the ring. Lacey Evans calls out Sasha, saying she is more of a "legit bully with a big mouth and no backbone" than a "legit boss," then challenges her to a match right now so she can make her a "legit loser."

CC Sabathia is seen in the front row.

Lacey Evans vs. Sasha Banks ends in a double count-out after Sasha beats Lacey up in front of her own daughter. After the match, Dana Brooke has to hold Lacey back along with several referees.

The Miz and Daniel Bryan beat King Corbin and Dolph Ziggler with a Figure Four Leg Lock to Ziggler. After the match, it is announced that Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin will have a Triple Threat Match to determine a new #1 contender for the WWE Universal Championship next week. All of a sudden, the lights go out and Bray Wyatt's laughter is heard.

He then says SmackDown will be his to rule as sole leader when he puts Roman in his place. Corbin then says he has seen all the promos of Roman Reigns coming to tonight's show "unchained," then says that a scared little dog runs away when unchained. He then says that if Roman does show up, he will show up to a fate far worse than last week. Corbin then says that Roman will not be showing up, and that the entire locker room approves of what he did last week. He then says that Ziggler will speak on the locker room's behalf. Ziggler says that for once in his life, Roman was the locker room leader that he said he was only for Corbin to put him down. Corbin says it is the dawn of a new day, and that anyone who stands in his and Ziggler's way will be forced to bow down. As Ziggler asks everyone to hail Corbin, The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E) show up. Big E says he and Kofi could not help but overhear Corbin talking about "ruling an imaginary kingdom" and uttering their name, then Corbin mocks Kofi losing the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar. Kofi then says he still considers himself a champion of the people - something he is proud of - and while he admits that Corbin had a good year, he had a better one as WWE Champion. Kofi then says he did not whine and complain on social media after losing the WWE title, and that he picked himself up, dusted himself off and kept moving forward, and now The New Day are seven-time tag team champions. Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura show up as things get heated, and they and Sami leave before Cesaro throws the ham on the floor.

The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) beat Shorty G and Mustafa Ali.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Bayley. Bayley says Lacey Evans may impress some people, but that means nothing to her, and that she does everything she does in the ring for herself now. She says that she and Sasha Banks - who is out recording a hip hop album - are the best and that Lacey picked a fight with the wrong people. Suddenly, Elias plays his guitar, and Bayley gets irritated with him. Elias then plays a song with Bayley as part of the Secret Santa gift exchange going on backstage in which he proceeds to make fun of Bayley. Bayley tells Dana Brooke to stop being a groupie and meet her in the ring if she thinks this is funny. Dana accepts her challenge.

They check on Monroe, and find a strange doll that they do not recognize. Miz prematurely ends the interview. Shortly afterwards, we see the doll in the Firefly Fun House as well as Bray Wyatt, who says he was just trying to be nice, as it is the holiday season. He says he understands how much Miz loves his family, then says that Miz exposed himself when he was too busy exposing what happened to Daniel Bryan. Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for December 6, 2019

Tonight's show opens with Miz TV. The Miz says Daniel Bryan was supposed to be his guest, but after what happened last week, that is not going to be the case, as Daniel Bryan has disappeared. He admits that he has known Daniel Bryan since he first stepped foot in WWE, and while they have not seen eye-to-eye and may never be friends, he knows he means a lot of the fans, and that everyone saw the real Daniel Bryan and the re-emergence of the Yes! Movement. However, "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt ruined everything, and seems to have put an end to that. While he does not like Daniel Bryan, he does care, and he will get to the bottom of what happened to Daniel Bryan. Suddenly, Bray Wyatt shows up on the TitanTron and tells Miz he does not want to know what happened, and that even he himself does not want to know, as Daniel may be with "The Fiend," who may not be done with Daniel just yet. Bray says Daniel was going to play with him at TLC, but now he is not so sure that will happen anymore, and invites Miz to play with him instead. Miz says he is not in the mood to play his games and that Daniel is like family to the fans, then Ramblin' Rabbit shows up and tells Miz to run. Maverick smacks Elias in the face and walks away, and when Brooke asks for confirmation as to whether this happened, Elias says no, and that something will eventually happen.

Drake Maverick is now in the ring. He is not happy that everyone finds his life a joke and that everybody - including Elias - finds this funny, then says nobody makes a mockery out of him, his marriage or his wife before calling Elias out for a fight. Elias shows up with Dana Brooke, then gets in the ring with Drake Maverick, who is easily overpowered - and embarrassed - by Elias, who proceeds to spank him. After Elias punts Maverick out of the ring, Dana tosses Maverick back into the ring so that Elias can hit Maverick with Drift Away. Dana then "pins" Maverick with her foot, and Elias makes the "count."

Backstage, The Miz finds out that his dressing room has been ransacked and that a portrait of his family has him replaced with "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt. Suddenly, Miz hears someone say "Say Cheese!", and when he turns around, he is attacked by Bray. Bray then lays the doctored portrait on top of a downed Miz.

After the match, Dawson tells The New Day that the fun and games are over and that The New Day will no longer disgrace the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships. Wilder says it is "The New Day" no more and that it is back to the old days and the fundamentals that brought them to the dance when they do what they do best, then Dawson says that The New Day will go back to their podcast and complain about how they beat them at TLC.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Roman Reigns. Roman says he goes about his business the same way every night, and if Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler can't handle it, that's on them. Sasha then calls Lacey a bad role model to her six-year-old model, and Lacey tells her not to mention her daughter ever again, and that she is a former U.S. Marine and that Sasha does not want to see her put the boots back on. She addresses Sasha and Bayley making fun of her, then says the Marines made her a leader and a fighter. Sasha gets in the ring, but falls to the mat when Lacey readies the Woman's Right. As Lacey heads to the back, she is blindsided by Bayley.

Corbin and his servants continue to fight Roman, and after a superkick from Ziggler, Roman is soon handcuffed to the ring post and unable to defend himself as Corbin and Ziggler continue to gang up on him. Ziggler and Corbin then pour dog food on Roman Reigns and rub it all over his head in an act of humiliation.

Both of them leap over the ropes and take out everyone outside of the ring, and Adam Cole is the only person left standing. He then says there are two weak links that he plans to get rid of as he hopes that Roman pulls his weight, as Roman is "a step behind." Ziggler says Shorty G and Ali are only on the team because they are "running with Roman" and do not deserve it, saying it should be him and Roode. Roode says that participation trophies have been given out, and that this will not fly under Corbin's rule. Ziggler says that he and Roode will not only beat Shorty G and Ali, they will take their spots at Survivor Series. King Corbin shows up to start tonight's show. Corbin says that Survivor Series is in two weeks, and that it will be a fight for survival between Raw, SmackDown and NXT. He then says he considers NXT's takeover embarrassing, and blames it on Roman Reigns. Corbin lists off Roman's accolades - including beating cancer - and says that while Roman is a role model, the audience only cares about Roman has done from them lately, which is nothing. He says that Roman spends his days off with his family when the locker room is his family, and that he does not want the responsibility of being champion. He calls Roman half the man he used to be and says the fans are seeing through him. After stating that The Big Dog's testicles have shriveled to the size of marbles and that Roman is starting to sound like a chihuahua, we then see a video of the dog from Roman's Titantron with the sound of a small dog. Corbin mocks the video, then says Roman is not man enough to stand face-to-face with him when Roman does not show up. He then says that Roman is not here and is granting some kid's wish, then says Roman will be in the main event with him, where he will tear him limb from limb before the fans can take poop bags and take pieces of "The Big Dog's excrement" to take home as souvenirs. He then says the fans will bend the knee to their king.

He says he will finish what he started in his upcoming bout with Deonte Wilder, and says he is here to take care of unfinished business as well. Braun Strowman then shows up. Braun Strowman tells Tyson he wanted him, and here he is. Tyson thanks Braun for the opportunity in Saudi Arabia, saying it was the toughest fight of his life and that he sees why he is the "Monster Among Men." He then says they should fight again as a tag team. Strowman says he likes the idea, but there are not two people stupid enough to fight them unless they want "all four of these hands." Suddenly, The B-Team (Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel) shows up. Curtis Axel says they are stupid enough to fight them, and Bo Dallas says that Curtis meant to say that everyone knows that the B in "B-Team" stands for fearless and that "we ain't scared of them hands." After the match, Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman show up for the first time since Lesnar lost the WWE Universal Championship to Seth Rollins. Lesnar and Heyman approach the ring but stop halfway down the ramp, and Kofi tells Woods and Big E to leave the ring so he can face Lesnar on his own. Lesnar decides to enter the ring with Kofi alongside Heyman. They stop at the apron, and Heyman is about to introduce himself and Lesnar when Lesnar has Heyman step into the ring. Heyman then continues his introduction, stating that Lesnar stands in the way of the longevity of his title reign. He also states that Lesnar has authorized him to let him know that it is a bad day for The New Day and that Lesnar is challenging him to a match for the WWE Championship on SmackDown's debut on Fox on October 4th. Heyman then hands Kofi the microphone, and Kofi states that when he won the WWE Championship, he promised to the fans that he would be a fighting champion. Kofi then accepts his challenge, then Lesnar hits Kofi with an F5.

Bayley then tells Kayla Braxton that Sasha will answer any and all questions regarding Charlotte Flair in the ring.

Michael Cole interviews Erick Rowan. Rowan states that Luke Harper will answer his question as to why he returned, then asks Cole if he has a question for him. As for why he attacked Roman Reigns, Rowan says he wanted to scare the man, but when Cole says Rowan's actions nearly killed him, Rowan tells Cole to watch his tone before telling him he wanted to prove Roman's dominance as an illusion. Rowan says he has been overlooked and disrespected, and states that the fans think of him as "a grunt in the background" meant to do someone's bidding, then says that he is not a puppet or a follower; instead, he is a leader. He then says that Daniel Bryan's biggest mistake is thinking of him as an intellectual equal, and says he will be stronger and smarter than he will be. Rowan then states that the locker room will learn to never disrespect him again.

Before the next match, Sami Zayn says he is in a lot of pain and that he demands respect for himself and Shinsuke Nakamura before bragging about Nakamura's victory over The Miz at Clash Of Champions. Sami then mentions Ali's previous victory against Nakamura before telling Ali that Nakamura is not the same man as last time and that he actually likes him as he gets in the ring. He then tells Ali he will never be a champion, then Sami and Nakamura double-team on Ali. At Sami's command, Nakamura hits Ali with the Kinshasa. Afterwards, Kevin Owens is seen in the crowd taking a seat. Backstage, Shane McMahon is told by a referee that someone is here to see him. Shane leaves the room and finds out he has been served with a lawsuit.

Shane McMahon shows up with security as Kevin Owens pretends to fall asleep in the crowd. Owens produces a ticket for his seat as Shane is given a "proper introduction." Shane says it is no coincidence that he is being served with legal papers while Owens is in the audience, and he asks security to let Owens in. He also asks for Owens to have a mic and enter the ring as security stands in front of Shane. Shane then asks security to step out, and announces that he has been served with the largest wrongful termination lawsuit in history. He says that Owens would be awarded $25 million if he were to win, and says that Owens is swimming where he shouldn't be. Shane tells Owens his case is weak, but Owens says he has a strong case, stating that Shane ruined SmackDown Live by making it his personal playground and making his life a living hell by fining him $100,000 for beating up a crooked referee and attacking him while he was a referee last week because he lost against Chad Gable before firing him for insubordination. Owens states that the fine was held over his head for weeks, and when he swallowed his pride, he tried to help him beat Chad Gable, yet Shane still tapped out. After that, Shane tried to take away his life's work and his family's future, which he states does not work with him. He tried to reason with him, work with him and even help him, but now he wants to hurt him in his wallet and his pride. He says this is about more than money, and that he can see in Shane's face that he has a case. He also says that there is a clause that Shane has not read, and states that if he wins, he is able to come back into the ring and tell Shane he is fired to his face. Kevin Owens then leaps back over the guardrail and runs back into the crowd.

Multi-platinum recording artist Offset - dressed in a robe similar to "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair - introduces Charlotte Flair before the next match.

Charlotte Flair beats Sasha Banks by disqualification after Bayley gets involved in the match. After the match, Carmella shows up and fights off Sasha and Bayley. After Carmella superkicks Sasha, Charlotte hits Bayley with a big boot.

After putting the crown on, he calls becoming King of the Ring a breath of fresh air, and says that the fans who wanted anyone but him to win are realizing he is the king that they wanted and a ruler that exemplifies everything it takes to be a king. Corbin demands the respect and admiration that he deserves, threatening a rule as an iron fist if he does not get it. He then thanks Chad Gable, who shows up. Corbin then starts making height jokes, and Gable responds by putting Corbin through the throne, ripping his robe and smashing the scepter into Corbin's back. Corbin is livid as Gable continues to destroy everything. Gable then takes the crown and stomps on it repeatedly before kicking it to Corbin.

Heavy Machinery (Tucker and Otis) beats The B-Team (Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel).

"The New" Daniel Bryan shows up. Daniel says that a lot of people chanting for him right now are the same people who accused him of orchestrating the attacks behind Roman Reigns, and says he understands more than ever why before stating he has never lied to the fans. He then states that he stands exonerated of all the attacks on Roman Reigns before focusing on Erick Rowan, saying that he saw Rowan and his potential, intelligence and talent when no one else did, and treated him as an equal and a friend. Suddenly, Rowan shows up and tells Daniel to stop, saying that he is tired of hearing him speak and that he was always standing behind him, never allowed to talk as Daniel tried to make him a follower. He asks Daniel if he ever asked him how he felt about anything, and states that he will not be disrespected. Daniel dares him to do something about it, as nothing will hurt worse than him destroying their friendship. Daniel is then attacked from behind by Luke Harper. Harper and Rowan are about to gang up on Daniel further when Roman Reigns shows up and fights off Harper and Rowan. Harper and Rowan soon overpower Roman Reigns, however, and powerbomb him into the ring post. They then tear up the ringside area, and when security shows up, Harper and Rowan level them. Rowan hits Roman with a piece of the barricade, and he and Harper then tear the timekeeper's and announce table areas apart and attack Tom Phillips before putting Daniel through the announce table.

He says that last week, he gave Kofi an opportunity to prove himself only to RKO him twice, because Kofi is stupid. He says that last night, he and The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) decimated The New Day (Kofi, Big E, Xavier Woods) , and the best part was forcing Kofi to watch Xavier Woods' knee get shattered, because Kofi is stupid. He then places Maverick back in the box.

It's time for A Moment of Bliss. Tonight's guest is Charlotte Flair. Alexa Bliss says that she and Nikki being champions will not change anything, and that A Moment of Bliss will always feature "the less fortunate" before introducing Charlotte. Charlotte states that she took the torch from Trish Stratus, and proved to her that she is the queen of all eras and the face of the SmackDown women's division. She says that Bayley may be the champion, but she is the brand, for she is marketable and Bayley is not. After calling Bayley "an afterthought" and stating that the SmackDown Women's Championship is an afterthought because of Bayley, Bayley shows up and tells Charlotte that her words sound like a bunch of excuses. She then says that at the end of the day, she is the champion, which proves that she is better than Charlotte and that it eats Charlotte up inside. Charlotte says that her match at SummerSlam stole the show, not Bayley's, and that she has to restore the prestige of the title when she beats her at Clash of Champions. Bayley says that if this is a challenge, she accepts, and says she cannot wait to shut her mouth. Bayley then pushes Charlotte out of her chair before leaving.

Miz mentions that Sami has not been doing too well in the ring, and Sami admits that he has been losing for months. Nakamura shows up, and Sami states that Nakamura is an artist and a poet who cannot articulate the pain that is in his heart and soul. He says that he understands, and that he and Nakamura have a bond and understand each other, for they are "two sides of the same coin." He says that Nakamura does not have to experience that pain anymore, and if he wants to address Nakamura, he has to speak to him. Nakamura points to Sami when Miz asks him a question. Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for August 13, 2019

Kevin Owens shows up to start tonight's show. Owens says tonight is the five-year anniversary of signing his WWE contract, and that he has experienced things he never thought he would experienced and wrestled the absolute best in the industry before facing Shane McMahon. He says that while Shane's title of "Best In The World" is far from reality as can be, SummerSlam will be a night he will never forget as his entire family got to see him in an arena full of people wanting him to beat Shane's ass, which is exactly what he did. He then goes on to say that he will always remember hitting Owens with the Stunner in the middle of the ring that night. Now that Shane McMahon is behind him, he is focused on the King of the Ring tournament. Having been a fan of WWE his entire life, the King of the Ring tournament is always something he has looked forward to. He is proud that it has been brought back and that he is in it, as he wants to be in the same list of tournament winners as countless legends. Suddenly, Shane McMahon shows up and says that Owens has a "tainted victory" over him, and replays how Owens won at SummerSlam. The crowd reacts with "You deserve it" as Shane says this is not competition and that Owens is not a man. Owens says he will not be lectured on how to be a man by someone like Shane and that he has been a man for the last couple of weeks. Shane calls Owens a lowlife who will always be known as a cheater. He goes on to say that Owens should be in the unemployment line and that seeing him makes him want to fight him again, but he does not want to soil his hands tonight. As he says that he will find out who his opponent is later tonight, he then replays what happened to Elias. Shane says that Elias is so traumatized that he has the night off and that the WWE 24/7 Championship is suspended for the night, then says Owens came after Elias with malice and reminds him that Elias was wearing a referee's jersey. In order to set an example so that WWE officials are protected, Owens will be fined $100,000. Owens tells him to reconsider, as it is nothing to Shane but everything to him, but Shane says "nope." Owens follows him backstage.

Daniel Bryan says there is no question now that someone is out to get Roman Reigns, and says that he and Rowan had nothing to do with the car crash or the backstage incident despite Buddy Murphy accusing them. He calls Buddy Murphy a liar, but he does not blame him, as the fans would all lie and cave if Roman had their faces pressed against the wall, too. He says that Murphy had to give a name, but Murphy gave the wrong name. The crowd responds with "It was you" chants, and an irate Daniel says that when someone tells a lie, it spreads and becomes a truth. He insists that he and Rowan had nothing to do with these incidents and that they will prove it tonight.

He says he will find an end for any member of the locker room and himself, for all they have to do is knock.

Roman Reigns beats Buddy Murphy.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder). They have challenged The New Day (Big E and Xavier Woods) because their brief status as co-24/7 Champions was a slap in the face to them and the rest of the tag team division, and the real champions are ruining tag team wrestling. They say that The New Day have never defeated them, and that they will soon see the true meaning of a "punchline."

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods), who mock The Revival's (Scott Dawson and Big E) accusations of ruining the tag team division. As Daniel Bryan says he hates liars, Rowan tosses Murphy around one more time.

Backstage, Roman Reigns looks for "The New" Daniel Bryan and Rowan.

Before the next match, Randy Orton shows up and asks Kofi Kingston how he can cheerlead The New Day when he ran away from a fight at SummerSlam, saying he ran away because he knows he cannot beat him and that he ran away in front of his family. He then says Kofi's sons will ask Kofi why he ran away and took the easy way out, and that he will tell them that he could not beat him. He then gives him one more chance to opportunity to prove himself with the two of them joining in, turning the match from a tag team match into a six-man tag match.

Randy Orton and The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) beat The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods). After the match, The Revival continue to attack The New Day, but Kofi takes them out only to fall victim to an RKO. Orton is about to grab Kofi by the hair, then he hits Woods with an RKO. With help from The Revival, he does the same to Big E before hitting Kofi with another one.
