Generation NXT - NXT recap for July 22, 2020

The show begins with General Manager William Regal announcing that Keith Lee has asked for time to address the fans. Keith Lee says it has been an incredible couple of weeks, and that he knows how much work it takes to get to NXT. After thanking his trainer, the late "Killer" Tim Brooks, he says that when opportunity struck, he became a champion. He says that he knows what opportunity is, and while he is limitless, he is not a limiting champion. Therefore, he will relinquish the NXT North American Championship to ensure other people get the same opportunities he did. Regal says he love the idea, and mentions that there will be Triple Threat Qualifying Matches where the winners will take part in a Ladder Match to decide a new North American Champion.

Dexter Lumis beats Killian Dain by submission.

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Roderick Strong, who says that tonight is the night that The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O'Reilly, Strong) get back on track after the last few strange weeks. As he says he should have been given a championship rematch, Bronson Reed shows up. He tells Roderick he is owed nothing and that Keith Lee created opportunity, and he is ready to prove he can be a big player in NXT. Johnny Gargano shows up and Strong leaves, and Gargano says this will end with him winning the title again and making history. Gargano leaves, then Bronson Reed tells Mackenzie Mitchell that tonight, he is going all out.

We hear from Dakota Kai, who says it felt good to knock the taste out of Io Shirai's mouth, and that she looks forward to taking the NXT Women's Championship away from her.

Breezango's (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) entrance before the next match makes strong references to The Quebecers (Quebecer Jacques and Quebecer Pierre).

Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) beat Ever-Rise (Chase Parker and Matt Martel).

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Dominik Dijakovic, who talks about Karrion Kross' attack on him last week before saying Kross will get a fresh Dijakovic this week who is ready to knock him unconscious.

It is announced by Io Shirai via Twitter that she will see Dakota Kai next week.

Shotzi Blackheart knocks Robert Stone off the steel steps with her tank before the next match.

Shotzi Blackheart beats Aliyah after kicking Robert Stone off the ring apron, causing Stone to land on his injured ankle. After the match, Shotzi runs Robert Stone's injured ankle over with her tank, but she is pump kicked from out of nowhere by Mercedes Martinez.

We see a vignette for Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, who compares being in the ring to being in the recording studio before saying that he knows what it takes to be a champion. He also warns Santos Escobar that the next time he steps into the ring with him, he will beat him to become the next NXT Cruiserweight Champion.

Bronson Reed beats Roderick Strong and Johnny Gargano to go on to the Ladder Match for the NXT North American Championship.

Timothy Thatcher beats Oney Lorcan by pinning Lorcan as Lorcan cinches in a double wristlock.

Backstage, Robert Stone is not in the mood to be interviewed by Mackenzie Mitchell. Suddenly, Mercedes Martinez shows up and says she needs someone who can manage things outside of the ring so she can focus on hurting people inside the ring. She also warns Stone not to step outside of his boundaries or else she will break both of his legs. Stone welcomes Mercedes to his brand.

We hear from Finn Balor, who says that if Keith Lee is giving NXT opportunities, he will take advantage of the fact that he is "not man enough" to defend a title and take the North American Championship even though he does not need charity. He warns Dexter Lumis and Timothy Thatcher that their opportunity sucks, because they have him to deal with and their push just hit the ceiling. He then says that the NXT North American Championship is getting "the Finn Balor rub." This match is announced as official for next week.

Karrion Kross beats Dominik Dijakovic. During the match, Kross kicks the steel steps into Dijakovic's head, knocking him out. Keith Lee shows up, and Dijakovic refuses to have the match stopped when he sees Lee as Kross continues to punch him in the head. Kross then beats Dijakovic with a sleeper. After the match, Lee tends to Dijakovic along with a few referees.

Generation NXT - NXT recap for July 15, 2020

Keith Lee shows up to start tonight's show. Lee says that he is at a crossroads, as the last few months have been a little difficult and he understands that more than anyone, but the ring he is standing in has something so incredible special and he stands in it as double champion. He says that he is not in disbelief or fooling himself, as he is stuck in reality and he knows that everyone wants the same opportunity that he has managed to earn. He understands that opportunity and chances created this, and that he did not do this on his own. Lee says that his trainer Tim Brooks believed in him when nobody else did, and that the fans made sure that when he came to NXT, they welcomed him with the most open arms and made him who he is now. He then says that one more person has been playing a pivotal part in this and that he has seen him backstage. That man is Dominik Dijakovic, whom he asks to come to the ring so they can talk. Dijakovic shows up and says that nobody on the planet is more proud of Lee than him, and Lee credits Dijakovic for propelling him into opportunity with their rivalry, as he is the one person to test his limits. Lee says that the best way to honor his championships is through competition, and after talking with General Manager William Regal, he feels that the first challenger should be Dijakovic. Dijakovic asks Lee when he wants to do this, and Lee says they should do it tonight. After Lee tells him "Just say yes," Dijakovic stops talking and just says "yes."

Damian Priest beats Cameron Grimes.

Timothy Thatcher teaches some prospects that for every submission, there is something to be learned. He teaches the Fujiwara Arm Bar that he recently put on Oney Lorcan, and that while a tap is educational, embarrassing your opponent is satisfaction.

Indi Hartwell beats Shotzi Blackheart after Robert Stone - in a walking boot - distracts the referee so that Aliyah can trip Shotzi off the top rope. During the match, it is reported that Robert Stone has suffered "ruptured leg ligaments."

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Tegan Nox, who says that she has traveled too far and done this for too long to lose, and that she wants to be a champion. She says that tonight is her night.

Legado Del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, Raul Mendoza) meet in what looks like a mansion. They have a toast to their first victory together at The Great American Bash and the end of Drake Maverick, who "only has a job because he kept crying on YouTube." They also agree what they did to Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) is an example of what happens when someone mocks the lucha libre culture, which they call art as they are "the true lucha libre artists." Escobar says that to build their empire, they must sometimes tear things down to build them back up.

Keith Lee retains the NXT North American Championship and NXT Championship against Dominik Dijakovic. Both men show respect after the match, then the arena goes dark. Scarlett then appears on the stage with a black bag in her hand, and she walks down to the ring. She then places the contents - pieces of a broken hourglass - near the ring apron, then walks away.

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Dominik Dijakovic, who says that Keith Lee is on a whole new level and that Karrion Kross cannot compete with him. Kross shows up and confronts Dijakovic for those words, then both men brawl. The brawl ends with Kross tossing Dijakovic over a barricade with a back body drop that lays Dijakovic out.

Timothy Thatcher beats Denzel Dejournette with a single leg crab, then locks it on again after the match. Oney Lorcan runs into the ring and attacks Thatcher.

In footage from earlier today, Robert Stone apologizes up and down to Killian Dain when Aliyah shows up with art from Dexter Lumis of last week's show. Killian grabs Stone and demands a match with Dexter Lumis to make up for what happened last week.

Next week: Killian Dain vs. Dexter Lumis! Karrion Kross vs. Dominik Dijakovic!

He then says that when the bell rings, there will be no place left to hide. Finn Balor says he is a patient man, but warns whoever attacked him that the push they were expecting will be a squash.

Next week: Imperium (Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel) vs. Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher for the NXT Tag Team Championships!

Cameron Grimes quickly beats Denzel Dejournette. After the match, Grimes says times are changing around here, and that it is "Grime Time." He says that he is better than this and deserves more than what he has right now, then addresses what Finn Balor says about coming for him and says someone beat him to it. As Grimes says that he will face Finn Balor and slap the taste out of his mouth, Finn Balor shows up and dares him to slap him in the face. When Grimes changes his tune, Balor overpowers him and makes him retreat. Finn Balor then looks into the camera and says there is a big long snake in the back, and when he finds him, he will cut off his head.

Next week: Finn Balor vs. Cameron Grimes!

During the match, Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong approach the ring, but Dexter Lumis comes out from underneath the ring and fights them. He says that he has built brands all over the world and won the big titles, and while everyone is peaking for WrestleMania, he has peaked for 20 years. Finn then asks who will be next to "get that Finn rub," then he is met by Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel. Suddenly, Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly show up. O'Reilly says he refuses to acknowledge Dunne and Riddle as a tag team, and says they have disrespected the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and the trophy. Before he and Fish get in the ring, Roderick Strong shows up, and Fish says they have bigger fish to fry than them. Riddle acknowledges that Bobby Fish said the word "fish," then asks Dunne how much fish Fish could fry if Fish could fry fish. Finn Balor says the old him died a long time ago, and that he is here to have the last match of Gargano's life. Rhea Ripley then shows up. Charlotte handwaves Bianca out of the way, then Rhea Ripley tells Charlotte to state her business while Bianca cannot belive what is going. Bianca then tells Charlotte "You're standing here, and you don't even go here!" She then says that Rhea Ripley will not run through her, and that Charlotte will face her at WrestleMania and that Charlotte "cannot whup [her]." Charlotte tells Bianca that this is a conversation between champions and to stand to the side and fix her braid, then Ripley tells Charlotte not to disrespect her or Bianca, as she did not come into Charlotte's house disrespecting her. Meanwhile, the scene backstage is on the video screen, and Adam Cole finds out what is going on. Suddenly, Toni Storm shows up. Toni congratulates Ripley, then brings up beating her for the NXT UK Women's Championship before stating she will win the title again on Sunday before becoming a double champion at Worlds Collide. Toni says this is only if Ripley has the guts to accepts her challenge, which Ripley does as she says that she does not mind beating her again. Suddenly, Kay Lee Ray shows up. Kay Lee Ray says nobody believes this will happen, as there is no way Toni will take the NXT UK Women's Championship from her, much less make it to Worlds Collide. Suddenly, Io Shirai shows up. While he will not take away from what Finn Balor has done for NXT and how he injured him, Finn did not finish the job. He then says the main difference between him and Finn is that he chose to stay in NXT while Finn got out at the first opportunity, and he picked NXT up from where it left off and took it to the stratosphere without Finn Balor, which eats Finn Balor alive. As Gargano states that it eats Finn Balor alive that he was not needed for NXT to succeed, Finn Balor shows up and says promos are all Gargano is cleared for. Cole says the only reason NXT was successful over the weekend was because of them, and that everyone else in the locker room did absolutely nothing. Cole says that they dominated at both War Games and Survivor Series because they are the "iron men" of the brand, and while everyone else is taking the night off, they will successfully defend the NXT Tag Team Championships because that is what they do. Tommaso Ciampa, having had enough, interrupts, saying that they are confident for four men who got beaten at War Games, and that everyone else is seeing what is going on except them. He states that War Games is the beginning of the end for The Undisputed Era, and while The Undisputed Era has all the gold, the decline will continues when The Undisputed Era lose the tag team titles. Ciampa tells Roderick Strong that his days are also numbered, and that "Goldy" will soon be coming home now that "Daddy" has gone to war and won. He then tells Cole that he will find out what he is in for, as there is not one member of The Undisputed Era that is no longer in his way. Suddenly, Finn Balor shows up and tells Ciampa he is standing in his way, but Ciampa reminds him of his "The business watches me" statement, then proposes that they have a one-on-one match. As she brags that she has held the NXT Women's Championship for over a year, Rhea Ripley shows up, but Baszler, Duke and Shafir walk away as Ripley walks out of the ring.
