Oney Lorcan beats Austin Theory. During the match, Pete Dunne shows up to get a closer look at the match. After the commercial break, Johnny Gargano is also at ringside. Later in the match, Gargano and Dunne go at it at ringside, and referees have to run in and escort them to the back. After the match, Gargano checks on Theory.

We see L.A. Knight in his mansion. Knight says that if "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase is looking for a man to carry out his legacy, he is it. We also see that he has two beautiful women and a Mercedes-Benz sports car.

We hear from Michael Hayes aka Dok Hendrix for the NXT TakeOver: In Your House Slam Jam, where he runs down the card for NXT TakeOver: In Your House.

Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, Raul Mendoza) is in the ring. As Santos Escobar says he will make Bronson Reed pay for last week, Bronson Reed shows up and makes light of squashing him on the ringside barricade. Santos Escobar dares Bronson Reed to do it again, and Bronson Reed says "You're on." After Bronson Reed gets in the ring, MSK (Nash Carter and Wes Lee) joins him. Santos Escobar says they knew MSK would show up, and proposes a six-man tag match where the NXT Tag Team and North American titles are both on the line. Legado del Fantasma retreat. As Legado del Fantasma leave and Bronson Reed and MSK are about to get out of the ring, Hit Row (Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, Ashante "Thee" Adonis, Top Dolla, B-Fab) shows up and confronts Legado del Fantasma before confronting MSK and Bronson Reed.Bronson Reed and MSK accept, then make fun of Bronson squashing Escobar again.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews The Way (Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell). As Candice talks about her irritation with Poppy, Indi is still pre-occupied with what Dexter Lumis did last week and thinks Dexter still loves her.

We hear from Cameron Grimes in his mansion, who says that he is worthy enough of "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase's legacy as he swims in a pool, lights a cigar with a dollar bill, drinks whiskey, gets a massage and drives a Rolls Royce.

Before the next match, Mercedes Martinez is attacked from behind by Xia Li. Mercedes Martinez gets in the ring and destroys her opponent in mere seconds as Xia Li is held back by referees, then says "Xia...you messed with the wrong one!"

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango). Fandango wants to know why Walter is angry all the time, and Tyler Breeze says that if they want the NXT tag team titles, they will have to beat Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel and disappoint Walter again.

Backstage, Triple H and General Manager William Regal welcome Poppy to NXT and thank her for the music before asking when the next album drops. Poppy says "Right now," and all of the music played on NXT every week becomes available as an EP called Eat - NXT Soundtrack. Suddenly, Dexter Lumis shows up and shows Poppy a drawing of her that he made. Poppy says "thank you" and hugs him. Indi Hartwell shows up, sees this and runs away crying, then Triple H says "This is awkward."

Cameron Grimes and L.A. Knight show up at approximately the same time. One of "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase's security guards tell him that DiBiase is waiting for them in the ring. DiBiase tells both men that they have proven themselves worthy and that it is time for them to climb the ladder of success. A solid gold ladder with green dollar signs on the sides is lowered into the ring. DiBiase tells both men that they will be in a ladder match, and Knight says that there is no hillbilly he will not step on to get to the top, as this is his game. Grimes says he may be a hillbilly, but he is still worth a million and that what happens in the ring matters. Grimes says that when he is in the ring, he cannot be beaten, and he will take DiBiase's legacy to the moon. He then says he does not see what he needs to reach for on the ladder, and DiBiase asks two security guards to bring a briefcase into the ring. DiBiase says both men will use every fiber of energy and muscle in their body for the Million Dollar Championship, which is in the briefcase and has not been seen in more than a dozen years, and that the winner at NXT TakeOver: In Your House will wear that title.

Backstage, General Manager William Regal and security have to stop a brawl between Kyle O'Reilly and Karrion Kross.

Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake) beat August Grey and Ikemen Jiro. During the match, Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher show up with steel chairs to watch the match from ringside. After the match, Zack Gibson tells Ciampa and Thatcher that he and Drake are done with them and that they are here for MSK and the tag team titles, as they have proven they are the better tag team while Ciampa and Thatcher are "two hooligans." Thatcher says Grizzled Young Veterans won't get a title shot until they go through them and throw their chairs at them. Gibson says that if they want a scrap, they will get it, but they will not enjoy it. Gibson then proposes a tornado tag team match for next week , and Ciampa accepts after saying he and Thatcher love tornado, don't need tags and cannot wait until next week to beat them up. After Thatcher and Ciampa run Gibson and Drake out of the ring, Thatcher says he will enjoy breaking Gibson and Drake's limbs.

We see footage of Bobby Fish at a punching bag. Fish tells Oney Lorcan he has not forgotten about him.

Candice LeRae heads to the ring. She says she is sick of hearing about Poppy, saying she hijacked her interview last week and took Dexter Lumis from Indi Hartwell, who has now left the building devastated and in tears. She says they can do this the easy way where Poppy faces her in the ring, or they can do this the hard way where she introduces Poppy to the NXT parking lot. Poppy shows up and says she doesn't wrestle but knows someone who does: Io Shirai. Shirai heads to the ring and quickly overpowers LeRae.

We hear from Dok Hendrix for another Slam Jam update. Hendrix mentions the matches that have been made official for NXT TakeOver: In Your House earlier in the night as well as previously announced matches.

In footage from during the break, Poppy and Io Shirai are confronted by Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai.

Ember Moon beats Dakota Kai by disqualification after Raquel Gonzalez hits her with a big boot. After the match, Ember Moon attacks Raquel, and when Dakota Kai gets involved, Ember Moon takes her out only for Raquel to overpower and choke slam her. However, the choke slam is reversed into an Eclipse. Ember Moon hits Raquel with the Eclipse, then drapes the NXT Women's Championship on top of a downed Raquel.

We hear from Karrion Kross and Scarlett. Kross says his opponents at NXT TakeOver: In Your House have an opportunity to meet him face-to-face tonight, and that they do not have to wait until Sunday to be flatlined. He tells them that this is their opportunity to show what they can really do, and to not be late.

General Manager William Regal and Karrion Kross are in the ring. Regal says he is the General Manager and that Kross does not run the show, but Kross says Regal runs nothing and that the show has been out of control for a very long time. He says that this is his world and that he is not leaving the ring until he beats up all of his opponents from Sunday's match. Kyle O'Reilly shows up and says that Kross has thin skin and a vein in his head that is about to burst because he is insecure. After O'Reilly says it is a matter of time until someone like him takes the NXT Championship from Kross, Johnny Gargano shows up and says Kross should be the biggest, baddest dude here, then says Kross is not him and that Kross should choke O'Reilly out right now. After Gargano tells him to be careful due to not being the most graceful guy here. As Kross talks back to Gargano, Pete Dunne shows up and says he is sick and tired of waiting and that he is about to prove why he is the baddest in NXT. Adam Cole shows up on the video screen and calls Kross "the biggest moron of them all" and that he verbally annihilated last week before telling Kross he can see right through him and that Kross is afraid. Cole says he does not even have to beat Kross to become NXT Champion and prove that Kross' championship reign is one big disappointment. After O'Reilly says Cole is "too much of a bitch" to kick things off in the ring, Kross asks O'Reilly who he is. O'Reilly slaps Kross in the face, and this starts a brawl where everyone fights each other as well as members of security who try to stop the brawl. Kross eventually comes out on top, but is superkicked out of nowhere by Adam Cole, who hits Kross with the Last Shot. Adam Cole then raises up the NXT Championship to end the show.

Priest shows up and congratulates Gargano on winning the North American Championship before threatening to shove a pipe up Austin Theory's ass, then he is suddenly attacked by Karrion Kross, who has not been seen in months. Generation NXT - NXT recap for July 22, 2020

The show begins with General Manager William Regal announcing that Keith Lee has asked for time to address the fans. Keith Lee says it has been an incredible couple of weeks, and that he knows how much work it takes to get to NXT. After thanking his trainer, the late "Killer" Tim Brooks, he says that when opportunity struck, he became a champion. He says that he knows what opportunity is, and while he is limitless, he is not a limiting champion. Therefore, he will relinquish the NXT North American Championship to ensure other people get the same opportunities he did. Regal says he love the idea, and mentions that there will be Triple Threat Qualifying Matches where the winners will take part in a Ladder Match to decide a new North American Champion.

Dexter Lumis beats Killian Dain by submission.

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Roderick Strong, who says that tonight is the night that The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O'Reilly, Strong) get back on track after the last few strange weeks. As he says he should have been given a championship rematch, Bronson Reed shows up. He tells Roderick he is owed nothing and that Keith Lee created opportunity, and he is ready to prove he can be a big player in NXT. Johnny Gargano shows up and Strong leaves, and Gargano says this will end with him winning the title again and making history. Gargano leaves, then Bronson Reed tells Mackenzie Mitchell that tonight, he is going all out.

We hear from Dakota Kai, who says it felt good to knock the taste out of Io Shirai's mouth, and that she looks forward to taking the NXT Women's Championship away from her.

Breezango's (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) entrance before the next match makes strong references to The Quebecers (Quebecer Jacques and Quebecer Pierre).

Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) beat Ever-Rise (Chase Parker and Matt Martel).

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Dominik Dijakovic, who talks about Karrion Kross' attack on him last week before saying Kross will get a fresh Dijakovic this week who is ready to knock him unconscious.

It is announced by Io Shirai via Twitter that she will see Dakota Kai next week.

Shotzi Blackheart knocks Robert Stone off the steel steps with her tank before the next match.

Shotzi Blackheart beats Aliyah after kicking Robert Stone off the ring apron, causing Stone to land on his injured ankle. After the match, Shotzi runs Robert Stone's injured ankle over with her tank, but she is pump kicked from out of nowhere by Mercedes Martinez.

We see a vignette for Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, who compares being in the ring to being in the recording studio before saying that he knows what it takes to be a champion. He also warns Santos Escobar that the next time he steps into the ring with him, he will beat him to become the next NXT Cruiserweight Champion.

Bronson Reed beats Roderick Strong and Johnny Gargano to go on to the Ladder Match for the NXT North American Championship.

Timothy Thatcher beats Oney Lorcan by pinning Lorcan as Lorcan cinches in a double wristlock.

Backstage, Robert Stone is not in the mood to be interviewed by Mackenzie Mitchell. Suddenly, Mercedes Martinez shows up and says she needs someone who can manage things outside of the ring so she can focus on hurting people inside the ring. She also warns Stone not to step outside of his boundaries or else she will break both of his legs. Stone welcomes Mercedes to his brand.

We hear from Finn Balor, who says that if Keith Lee is giving NXT opportunities, he will take advantage of the fact that he is "not man enough" to defend a title and take the North American Championship even though he does not need charity. He warns Dexter Lumis and Timothy Thatcher that their opportunity sucks, because they have him to deal with and their push just hit the ceiling. He then says that the NXT North American Championship is getting "the Finn Balor rub." This match is announced as official for next week.

Karrion Kross beats Dominik Dijakovic. During the match, Kross kicks the steel steps into Dijakovic's head, knocking him out. Keith Lee shows up, and Dijakovic refuses to have the match stopped when he sees Lee as Kross continues to punch him in the head. Kross then beats Dijakovic with a sleeper. After the match, Lee tends to Dijakovic along with a few referees.
