Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for December 18, 2018

The show begins with Commissioner Shane McMahon mentioning what happened on Raw last night and how the plans for Raw are also taking place on SmackDown Live. He mentions that they need to make the best possible product they can for the fans, and that it starts tonight. He tells everyone to rip down the brass ring and take everything that comes with it, and thanks General Manager Paige for her hard work before relieving her of the General Manager position. Paige will not be going anywhere, but her role has changed a bit.

Becky Lynch shows up. Becky says she does not care who runs the show, as she is in the charge, and while everyone else is in a corporate meeting, she is with the people as this is where the real business is conducted. She demands "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey, saying that when she get in her business, she left her laying, and at TLC, she cost her the SmackDown Women's title and did not have the decency to fight her. Becky says she has worked way too long and hard to let someone like her take it all away from her. Suddenly, Charlotte Flair shows up. Charlotte tells Becky to take number two and stand behind her, because Ronda stole her opportunity at TLC. Becky says her days of standing behind are long gone, but Charlotte says the days of looking up at her are then, now and forever. She also says that if Ronda had not been there, she could have become an eight-time Women's Champion. Suddenly, Asuka shows up. Asuka tells Charlotte and Becky to forget Ronda, for she is the champion now. Becky tells Asuka to prove it, and Charlotte tells Asuka to thanks Ronda, as she never beat the two of them, and call her a paper champion. Suddenly, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon shows up. Vince wishes the fans a happy holiday, then congratulates Asuka on winning the SmackDown Women's Championship. She then Becky's conduct is unbecoming of an official, as is Charlotte's, saying anything went last night. He then says that anything was Ronda, who promised to write the next chapter, and tells them to take their anger out on Ronda. As for Asuka, he asks if she would like to defend her championship tonight. After Vince asks if anyone is ready for Asuka, Naomi shows up. Naomi says Charlotte had her opportunities and that Becky used to be "The Man" but doesn't have the title anymore and she wants it. Vince then makes a match between Naomi and Asuka for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship right now official. Charlotte and Becky Lynch watch from ringside for the next match.

Asuka retains the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship against Naomi with the Asuka Lock.

Backstage, The Miz knocks on the door to the McMahon Family's office. Vince comes out, then Miz mentions the trust issues he has with Commissioner Shane McMahon and the WWE World Cup trophy. Miz asks Vince for his blessing to team with Shane, and Vince gives Miz a chance to prove himself in a tag team match, and says he will find a team as well as a partner for him.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Rusev and Lana. Rusev says he hopes the McMahons are paying attention, as he is a Superstar and a man of action and crushed Shinsuke Nakamura. After putting his beard over and comparing Nakamura to Sonic The Hedgehog, he says that he will eventually get his hands on Nakamura and take the United States Championship from him.

Jeff Hardy shows up. Hardy says he has heard that Samoa Joe wants to apologize to him, and while he has made mistakes in the past, that was then and this is now, and he worships the fact that he is alive, well and here. He then tells Samoa Joe to get it over with and come to the ring, as he wants to hear his apology face to face. Joe shows up, and says he is sorry...because this is an intervention. He says he has known Jeff Hardy for a long time, and says a man in Hardy's fragile condition can be rough at this time of year, as his demons will catch up to him. Hardy says this is reminding him that he is never going back, and that he sees right through him. Hardy tells Joe he attacks weaknesses to hide his insecurities, and mentions that Joe has only won one title in WWE. Joe pretends to back off, then tries to attack Hardy only to eat a Twist of Fate.

The Miz's tag team partner is revealed to be Mandy Rose, and their opponents are revealed to be The Fabulous Truth (R-Truth and Carmella). R-Truth announces their victory in Mixed Match Challenge and their vacation at WWE Headquarters in Stanford, Connecticut, and that he looks forward to their match against Miz and "Maryse," who is really Mandy Rose.

The Miz and Mandy Rose beat The Fabulous Truth (R-Truth and Carmella) after a Skull Crushing Finale to R-Truth in the middle of a seven-second dance break.

It is announced that Mustafa Ali has been officially added to the SmackDown Live roster.

We see vignettes for Lars Sullivan, Lacey Evans, Heavy Machinery (Tucker Knight and Otis Dozovic), Nikki Cross and EC3.

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) show up. The Usos say that no matter what, one thing stays the same: they run SmackDown Live. They may not have won the tag team titles, they still have gold on their mind and call out The Bar. Instead, they get Gallows & Anderson (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson). Anderson says it's The Bar, The New Day and The Usos week after week, and while they are great teams with great matches, they haven't been on television since August. Gallows says they have been on the sidelines for four months, but no more. He says it is time to clean slates and clean the house. The Usos say they are not the reason why they aren't on TV, then tell them to step up or get stepped on, as they move for no one. Gallows and Anderson get in the ring, and a referee stands between both teams. It is then announced that, as per the McMahon family, there will be a match between the two teams right now.

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) vs. Gallows & Anderson (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) ends with The Bar (Sheamus and Cesaro) showing up only for SAnitY (Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe, Killian Dain) to also show up for the first time in months and attack both teams in the match. Afterwards, The Bar rush into the ring and pick the bones.

We hear from Shinsuke Nakamura, who says that Rusev is a "Total Diva," not a United States title contender or a SmackDown Live star, and that he shouldn't be afraid of him.

The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods) advertise The New Day's WWE 2018 Pancake Powered New Year Spectacular tomorrow night at 10 PM Eastern, 9 PM Central.

Before the next match, "The New" Daniel Bryan says he killed the Yes! Movement and destroyed the house that "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles built, but unlike the fans, he is not about destruction; he is about creation of something better. He says that on SmackDown Live, he is creating a brave new world that he knows the people will not like because they fear change. He calls the people out on their "vacuous consumption," and says the people of Fresno, California are the guiltiest of all. He says the people are proud of themselves, then says Fresno ranks #1 in pollution in the state of California (which the fans nevertheless cheer to upon hearing). He then says "Shame!" repeatedly to the fans. He then states that Sir Isaac Asimov once said that self-education is the only education there is, then says the people would not know wisdom if it were pumped with GMOs and handed to them through a drive-thru window. Daniel Bryan then tells the people of Fresno not to try self-education, as they will fail and they have failed already, then tells them they have someone to show them the way and how to live: "The New" Daniel Bryan.

"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles and Mustafa Ali beat "The New" Daniel Bryan and Andrade "Cien" Almas.

Here are the top 10 moments from tonight's show!
