Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for August 30, 2024

We are introrduced to the German announce team of Holger Boeschen and Walandi Tsanti.

LA Knight heads to the ring to start tonight's show. Knight says it has been 27 long years since WWE has done a major televised event in Berlin, Germany, then issues an open challenge for the WWE United States Championship. It gets answered by Ludwig Kaiser. Ludwig Kaiser says that if LA Knight wants to defend against the best in the world, then there is nobody else better on German soil than himself. He says that after he beats Kaiser, he will make the United States title bigger than it ever was and make it his own personal European Championship. Knight says Kaiser can do anything he wants with the championship, but he has to win it first, and he will not let him. He then says Kaiser will lay down and catch "three the hard way" as he retains his title.

LA Knight retains the WWE United States Championship against Ludwig Kaiser.

We see a video package for Randy Orton vs. Gunther at Bash In Berlin.

We see a video package for Nia Jax.

Legado del Fantasma (Berto and Garza) beat Apollo Crews and Baron Corbin after Elektra Lopez distracts the referee so that Santos Escobar can throw Baron Corbin into the ring steps. (Berto and Garza are officially named "Los Garza" in this match.)

We hear from The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, Jacob Fatu). Solo Sikoa says that #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) and The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) will acknowledge him. He then talks about how he took Jimmy Uso, Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns and took the ula fala and the right to be called the Tribal Chief. He then says that if he can do that to those he considers family, then one can imagine what he can do to #DIY and The Street Profits. Jacob Fatu is about to hand the ula fala to Solo, but Solo stops him and addresses "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens, saying he will come for whoever wins the Undisputed WWE Championship. Jacob then places the ula fala around his neck.

General Manager Nick Aldis is in the ring. He hypes up Bash In Berlin, then we see footage from WWE's recent European tour. Aldis then introduces Kevin Owens and "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes to the ring. Aldis leaves the ring, then Owens asks Cody what he wants to talk about. After entertaining talking about the WWE Championship as well as what happened to Cody's knee during the tour, Cody talks about the aftermath of their victory last week. Cody thinks that Owens was about to hit him last week but did not because of when he turned around, but Owens says that everyone he ever turned on had it coming except for Kofi Kingston, who never deserved it. Owens says they have been close for a long time and even knew Cody's father, and asks why he would do that. He says that Owens has been a bit angry with him, and says that Owens does not get enough credit and that he perhaps gets too much. Owens is flattered, but says he does not need to hit him with a cheap shot, as he knows that Cody's knee is hurt. Cody thinks that Owens is saying this because he feels he does not deserve this match, but Owens truly wants him at 100%. Owens talks about how he won the Universal Championship eight years ago and how people said he only won the title because of Triple H, and thinks that the victory will be tainted if he beats Cody while he a bad knee. Cody says his knee is 100% and that he is ready to go, and that Owens is angry that he has returned and would leave even his friends in his rear view mirror, as he could not take all his friends with him. He says he does not have many friends in this business, but he considers Owens one of them, and wants to know if they will still be friends after the match. Owens drops his microphone and whispers something into Cody's ear, then leaves the ring.

Apollo Crews and Baron Corbin are met and mocked by Grayson Waller and Austin Theory, with Grayson saying Theory claims they are not the tag team he and Grayson is. Corbin almost explodes on Theory as Crews holds him back, and Theory chews Grayson out for doing this, saying that they are falling apart as a team because of things like this. Grayson says it is banter, and Theory accepts his apology.

We hear from Giovanni Vinci, who says that he wants to win with honor. He says this is not a return, but an arrival, and soon, everyone will remember his name. Vinci re-debuts next week.

Carmelo Hayes beats Andrade.

Bianca says The Unholy Union (Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre) have been ducking them since Clash at the Castle, and since she knows that they will be here tonight, she wants to know where they are. Cody says that while he heads into SummerSlam fighting with every ounce of pride and energy that he has, he also heads into it the champion, and he cannot let the title be taken back by The Bloodline. Tiffany Stratton and Nia Jax beat Bayley and "Michin" Mia Yim after taking Michin out for most of the match before the bell and after Tiffany hits Bayley with the Money In The Bank Briefcase so that Nia can hit the A-Nia-Lator for the win.

We hear from The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, Jacob Fatu). Solo Sikoa says that he will meet "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes face to face as The Bloodline brings back the WWE Tag Team Championships just like he will take back the Undisputed WWE Championship. Tiffany Stratton heads to the ring to start tonight's show. Tiffany brags about becoming the youngest Miss Money In The Bank in WWE history and being the real star of the show, then says that it is her time. She tells all of the women's champions in WWE that they are on notice and on "Tiffy Time," and before she proclaims that she will become a champion, Bayley shows up. Bayley congratulates Tiffany on her victory, which Tiffany does not care for, then advises her that if she even plans to use the Money In The Bank contract on her, she had better be ready to make history as the first woman to fail to cash in. Nia Jax then shows up and accuses Bayley of making empty threats and reminds her that they have a match in three weeks at SummerSlam where she will take her title, but Bayley reminds Nia that she is different from the Bayley that she has faced before. She then entertains the idea of Nia Jax beating her for the WWE Championship and then entertains the idea of Tiffany Stratton cashing in on Nia Jax, but Nia makes fun of the size of Bayley's butt by calling her "BBL Bayley" and says she has no problem with Tiffany, then says Bayley is her victim, not her toy, and that she will victimize her at SummerSlam. Bayley swings at Nia but is held back by Tiffany, and that allows Nia to hit a cheap shot. Suddenly, "Michin" Mia Yim show up and chases Nia and Tiffany out of the ring with a shinai.

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviews Piper Niven and Chelsea Green. Chelsea is wearing a purple, diamond-studded neck brace as she tells Saxton to go away while she waits for General Manager Nick Aldis to answer her.

Nia and Tiffany then double-team Bayley, and Nia hits Bayley with a leg drop. As Nia Jax leaves the ring, Tiffany Stratton entertains the idea of cashing in on Bayley, but Nia Jax steps in and stops her from doing it.

We hear from Solo Sikoa, who says that he has made The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, Jacob Fatu) into a more dangerous family and declares that they will rule for decades for as long as he is Tribal Chief, and that by the end of tonight, everyone will acknowledge them.

In footage from earlier today, Byron Saxton interviews Andrade in an empty arena. Andrade says the vision is the same and that WWE is his destiny. All of a sudden, Carmelo Hayes interrupts and says Saxton should be talking to him, as he is the real MVP of the men's Money In The Bank bank. Carmelo also says that Andrade screwed him out of the title, and Andrade has Saxton re-ask his next question - "What's next for Andrade?" - to reply that it is Carmelo Hayes. Carmelo walks away.

Legado del Fantasma (Angel and Berto) beats Baron Corbin and Apollo Crews after Elektra Lopez distracts the referee so that Santos Escobar can hit Apollo with a knee so that Angel can hit Apollo with the Wing Clipper for the win.

Backstage, as Piper Niven reads a book on how to start a cult, Chelsea Green tells Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) to get in line with their musical, as nobody is getting in General Manager Nick Aldis' office before her and Piper. She then finds out that LA Knight was in Aldis' office before her, and LA Knight, contract in his hand, tells Chelsea it will be a little bit longer.

Backstage, Randy Orton sits with "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes and says there is a chance that Cody will find himself surrounded by The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, Jacob Fatu) in the ring, but knows that he does not want his help. He says that whether he likes it or not, he will show up if things go sideways. He says that Kevin Owens is not here tonight, and while Owens is a fighter, his family needs him more than they do. Orton then tells Cody to give Solo a piece of his mind, then reminds him that when the business with The Bloodline is over, he will have a lot of people coming for his title, and he will have his back then, too.

LA Knight heads to the ring. LA Knight admits that Money In The Bank did not go his way, and says that contract or no contract, he is the walking embodiment of Money In The Bank. He then mentions pinning Logan Paul to qualify for the men's Money In The Bank ladder match with footage of him doing it, then reveals that the contract in his hand is for a match for the United States Championship at SummerSlam. Logan Paul signs the contract, which already has a signature from General Manager Nick Aldis, then says all he needs is Logan Paul's signature, and calls Logan Paul out so he can sign the contract. He almost does it, however, as he knows that Logan Paul is not in the building tonight, and says that one way or another, he will get his signature and he will win his title.

Naomi beats Blair Davenport.

Backstage, Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill congratulates Naomi on their victory. Bianca Belair mentions that General Manager Nick Aldis to everyone in earshot near Nick Aldis' office (Chelsea Green, Piper Niven, Kit Wilson, Elton Prince) before she and Jade tells Naomi to enjoy her victory. Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) leave, but Chelsea and Piper enter the office. When Bianca and Jade leave, Blair Davenport shows up and says the better woman won and that maybe she will have better luck against her next time. They shake hands, then Blair leaves. Chelsea Green and Piper Niven leave Nick Aldis' office annoyed that Aldis is not here, then Naomi is attacked from behind by Davenport.

#DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) retain the WWE Tag Team Championships against Grayson Waller and Austin Theory after miscommunication between Grayson and Theory that leads to the two of them missing with Meet Me In The Middle on Theory before Grayson inadvertently knees Theory, allowing #DIY to hit Meet Me In The Middle on Theory to win and retain. After the match, Jacob Fatu suddenly shows up and Spears Austin Theory, then lays out both members of #DIY before the rest of The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa) head to the ring. After the commercial break, Solo says that those who do not acknowledge him ended up gone, then tells the fans that they do not deserve Roman Reigns and that they have him now. He then says that if Roman comes back, he will acknowledge him as Tribal Chief. Solo then proclaims that tonight, it is "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes' night to acknowledge him, and Cody shows up and gets in the ring with The Bloodline (Solo, Tama, Loa, Jacob). Cody says he has heard everything that Solo is saying and says he can figure out that they both want the same thing, and while he has to speak to General Manager Nick Aldis, it might as well be official that Solo will face him for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam. He then says that if he were making any sort of decision, he might as well have this match here and now. The Bloodline soon encircle and surround Cody, and while Cody throws the first punch, he is soon outnumbered and overpowered. Randy Orton soon rushes to the ring and quickly makes his way to Solo Sikoa, hitting him with the draping DDT. As Orton checks on Cody, he is soon taken down by Jacob Fatu, and the numbers game once again takes over. Solo and Jacob tie Cody in the ring ropes to gang up on him, while Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa attack Randy Orton with the ring steps on the outside. Orton is annihilated at ringside as Solo forces Cody to watch, then The Bloodline put Randy Orton through the announce table with a powerbomb. Solo then hits the Samoan Spiked on a tied-up Cody, and The Bloodline celebrate to end the show.

He says that his match was exactly the kind of fight that he lives for, then Oba Femi asks Ivar what he wants. Ivar says he felt a deep jealousy, not just for the title around his shoulder, but for the fight that he wanted to be part of. Ivar says Josh Briggs and Dijak threw everything at him, but he remained the immovable object, and now he knows he is the one who can take him down and take the North American Championship. Trick then asks Ilja Dragunov to come to the ring, and Ilja Dragunov shows up and heads to the ring. He says that he is proud of the Superstar that Trick has become as well as Trick's charisma. After Trick says that the fans want to see him as NXT Champion, Dragunov says that Trick is full of himself, as he should be, but denies him a shot at the title, as he had his chance and failed and it is time for another Superstar to get a chance to face him. Trick asks who he has to beat to face him, and says nothing will stop him from the NXT Championship. Dragunov says Trick is a risk-taker and that he tells him that this will be his biggest risk, and tells him he has his shot in two weeks at Spring Breakin'. Dragunov then says that when he beats Trick, Trick must leave NXT. Trick says that if he cannot beat Dragunov, then he does not belong in NXT, and he accepts his challenge. After they shake hands, Carmelo Hayes attacks Trick Williams from behind, knocking him into Dragunov in the process before telling him he will beat him in a steel cage match next week.

Roxanne says Lyra will lose their match and that the real questions are going to arise, and that it will soon be seen if Lyra can handle everything and rebuild herself. Lyra says she has been physically and mentally tougher than her and that she rises where Roxanne crumbles. Ava gets between them so that they can sign the contract for their match. Lyra signs the contract first, followed by Roxanne. Both of them stare each other down and shake hands. As Lyra leaves, Tatum Paxley shows up from underneath the table and puts Roxanne through the table before hugging Lyra. Lyra shoves Tatum away and tells her to stay away as the show ends.
