Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for July 12, 2024

Tiffany Stratton heads to the ring to start tonight's show. Tiffany brags about becoming the youngest Miss Money In The Bank in WWE history and being the real star of the show, then says that it is her time. She tells all of the women's champions in WWE that they are on notice and on "Tiffy Time," and before she proclaims that she will become a champion, Bayley shows up. Bayley congratulates Tiffany on her victory, which Tiffany does not care for, then advises her that if she even plans to use the Money In The Bank contract on her, she had better be ready to make history as the first woman to fail to cash in. Nia Jax then shows up and accuses Bayley of making empty threats and reminds her that they have a match in three weeks at SummerSlam where she will take her title, but Bayley reminds Nia that she is different from the Bayley that she has faced before. She then entertains the idea of Nia Jax beating her for the WWE Championship and then entertains the idea of Tiffany Stratton cashing in on Nia Jax, but Nia makes fun of the size of Bayley's butt by calling her "BBL Bayley" and says she has no problem with Tiffany, then says Bayley is her victim, not her toy, and that she will victimize her at SummerSlam. Bayley swings at Nia but is held back by Tiffany, and that allows Nia to hit a cheap shot. Suddenly, "Michin" Mia Yim show up and chases Nia and Tiffany out of the ring with a shinai.

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviews Piper Niven and Chelsea Green. Chelsea is wearing a purple, diamond-studded neck brace as she tells Saxton to go away while she waits for General Manager Nick Aldis to answer her.

Nia Jax beats "Michin" Mia Yim after Bayley takes out Tiffany Stratton on the outside. After the match, Bayley attacks Nia Jax, but she is hit from behind with the Money In The Bank briefcase by Tiffany Stratton. Nia and Tiffany then double-team Bayley, and Nia hits Bayley with a leg drop. As Nia Jax leaves the ring, Tiffany Stratton entertains the idea of cashing in on Bayley, but Nia Jax steps in and stops her from doing it.

We hear from Solo Sikoa, who says that he has made The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, Jacob Fatu) into a more dangerous family and declares that they will rule for decades for as long as he is Tribal Chief, and that by the end of tonight, everyone will acknowledge them.

In footage from earlier today, Byron Saxton interviews Andrade in an empty arena. Andrade says the vision is the same and that WWE is his destiny. All of a sudden, Carmelo Hayes interrupts and says Saxton should be talking to him, as he is the real MVP of the men's Money In The Bank bank. Carmelo also says that Andrade screwed him out of the title, and Andrade has Saxton re-ask his next question - "What's next for Andrade?" - to reply that it is Carmelo Hayes. Carmelo walks away.

Legado del Fantasma (Angel and Berto) beats Baron Corbin and Apollo Crews after Elektra Lopez distracts the referee so that Santos Escobar can hit Apollo with a knee so that Angel can hit Apollo with the Wing Clipper for the win.

Backstage, as Piper Niven reads a book on how to start a cult, Chelsea Green tells Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) to get in line with their musical, as nobody is getting in General Manager Nick Aldis' office before her and Piper. She then finds out that LA Knight was in Aldis' office before her, and LA Knight, contract in his hand, tells Chelsea it will be a little bit longer.

Backstage, Randy Orton sits with "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes and says there is a chance that Cody will find himself surrounded by The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, Jacob Fatu) in the ring, but knows that he does not want his help. He says that whether he likes it or not, he will show up if things go sideways. He says that Kevin Owens is not here tonight, and while Owens is a fighter, his family needs him more than they do. Orton then tells Cody to give Solo a piece of his mind, then reminds him that when the business with The Bloodline is over, he will have a lot of people coming for his title, and he will have his back then, too.

LA Knight heads to the ring. LA Knight admits that Money In The Bank did not go his way, and says that contract or no contract, he is the walking embodiment of Money In The Bank. He then mentions pinning Logan Paul to qualify for the men's Money In The Bank ladder match with footage of him doing it, then reveals that the contract in his hand is for a match for the United States Championship at SummerSlam. Logan Paul signs the contract, which already has a signature from General Manager Nick Aldis, then says all he needs is Logan Paul's signature, and calls Logan Paul out so he can sign the contract. He almost does it, however, as he knows that Logan Paul is not in the building tonight, and says that one way or another, he will get his signature and he will win his title.

Naomi beats Blair Davenport.

Backstage, Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill congratulates Naomi on their victory. Bianca Belair mentions that General Manager Nick Aldis to everyone in earshot near Nick Aldis' office (Chelsea Green, Piper Niven, Kit Wilson, Elton Prince) before she and Jade tells Naomi to enjoy her victory. Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) leave, but Chelsea and Piper enter the office. When Bianca and Jade leave, Blair Davenport shows up and says the better woman won and that maybe she will have better luck against her next time. They shake hands, then Blair leaves. Chelsea Green and Piper Niven leave Nick Aldis' office annoyed that Aldis is not here, then Naomi is attacked from behind by Davenport.

#DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) retain the WWE Tag Team Championships against Grayson Waller and Austin Theory after miscommunication between Grayson and Theory that leads to the two of them missing with Meet Me In The Middle on Theory before Grayson inadvertently knees Theory, allowing #DIY to hit Meet Me In The Middle on Theory to win and retain. After the match, Jacob Fatu suddenly shows up and Spears Austin Theory, then lays out both members of #DIY before the rest of The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa) head to the ring. After the commercial break, Solo says that those who do not acknowledge him ended up gone, then tells the fans that they do not deserve Roman Reigns and that they have him now. He then says that if Roman comes back, he will acknowledge him as Tribal Chief. Solo then proclaims that tonight, it is "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes' night to acknowledge him, and Cody shows up and gets in the ring with The Bloodline (Solo, Tama, Loa, Jacob). Cody says he has heard everything that Solo is saying and says he can figure out that they both want the same thing, and while he has to speak to General Manager Nick Aldis, it might as well be official that Solo will face him for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam. He then says that if he were making any sort of decision, he might as well have this match here and now. The Bloodline soon encircle and surround Cody, and while Cody throws the first punch, he is soon outnumbered and overpowered. Randy Orton soon rushes to the ring and quickly makes his way to Solo Sikoa, hitting him with the draping DDT. As Orton checks on Cody, he is soon taken down by Jacob Fatu, and the numbers game once again takes over. Solo and Jacob tie Cody in the ring ropes to gang up on him, while Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa attack Randy Orton with the ring steps on the outside. Orton is annihilated at ringside as Solo forces Cody to watch, then The Bloodline put Randy Orton through the announce table with a powerbomb. Solo then hits the Samoan Spiked on a tied-up Cody, and The Bloodline celebrate to end the show.
