Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for July 5, 2024

"Main Event" Jey Uso heads to the ring to start tonight's show. As Jey Uso gets the crowd fired up and proclaims that he will become "Mr. Mon-Yeet In The Bank," LA Knight shows up. LA Knight says that the thought of Jey Uso being the odds-on favorite is crazy to him, as he was the odds-on favorite last year, and while he has so much respect for him for what he has done in the past year, he will not show him any respect on Saturday. After LA Knight says the crowd will be saying "Yeah!" instead of "Yeet" on Saturday Night, this leads to a Yeah-Yeet war before Carmelo Hayes shows up. Carmelo says that LA Knight had his head so far up his own ass the last time he saw him, but as he talks about what he and Jey Uso have in common, Chad Gable shows up. Gable says that he has been in his own personal hell for the past three weeks unlike everyone else in the match and that he is still soldiering on despite all that he has been through, then Andrade shows up. Andrade says everyone is talking about dreams when dreams do not win matches, especially Money In The Bank, then Drew McIntyre shows up. Drew says that the violence that he inflicted upon CM Punk will be inflicted upon anyone in the match who gets in his way, then proceeds to make fun of all of his opponents in the Money In The Bank Ladder Match. After Drew asks Jey Uso how he got across the Canadian border, Drew is attacked from behind by Andrade, and this leads to everyone attacking everyone else. LA Knight and Jey Uso team up to clothesline Drew out of the ring, then stand tall in the ring despite the tension between them.

Backstage, Jackie Redmond interviews Bayley. Bayley says that the Money In The Bank Ladder Match is the most brutal, but it is also the most rewarding. She says that one must stay sharp and know when to cash in, then Chelsea Green shows up and says Bayley's information is as irrelevant as she is, and that she would not be champ if she had not been ejected from ringside. Chelsea then says that when she wins the Money In The Bank Ladder Match, she will know when she is coming for her. Bayley tells Chelsea to come back when she actually wins a match, and this leads to Bayley being attacked from behind by Piper Niven.

Backstage, Naomi meets with Bayley as Bayley comes out of General Manager Nick Aldis' office from getting a match against Piper Niven. Naomi tells Bayley she has her back.

The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) beat Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince).

Backstage, Austin Theory meets with Grayson Waller. Theory and says he has had time to think what Johnny Gargano has to say, but Grayson says that he was not winning titles until they teamed together and that people want to tear them apart. He says that if they are not on the same page, then they need to catch up.

Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill beat Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell. After the match, Cathy Kelley interviews Bianca and Jade. Bianca says the last few months have been rough, but they are getting back to where they started, and they are taking back the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships from The Unholy Union (Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn). Jade thanks Alba and Isla for keeping their titles warm and says that they are coming back for their titles.

Kevin Owens heads to the ring. He is soon joined by Randy Orton, then "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes. Cody says they are done hearing from The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, Jacob Fatu), and Orton says that it will all end with an RKO. Owens says he could talk about the last four years of his life fighting The Bloodline, but he would rather talk about the last four days. Owens talks about how he got a call from his dad that his mother was rushed to the hospital, and he flew back home and has been at her side at the hospital since. He says that the Canadian shows are usually special due to the family getting together, but his parents will not be there due to his mother fighting for her life. He says he would have and should have stayed home tonight and there would have not been a problem, but it would have been a problem for his mother, as ever since he discovered pro wrestling, she and his dad made sure he made his dream come true and made it all the way to WWE, and that she would be pissed if he missed a show because of her. He says that win, lose or draw, he hopes to do what he has been doing for the last four years, which is to beat The Bloodline worse than ever before.

Before the next match, Iyo Sky is seen watching from the front row.

Bayley beats Piper Niven. During the match, Zoey Stark and Lyra Valkyria are seen watching from the crowd, and Tiffany Stratton walks down the ramp to get an up-close look. Near the end of the match, Zoey, Lyra, Tiffany, Iyo Sky, Chelsea Green and Naomi go at it with each other before Bayley hits Piper with the Rose Plant for the win. After the match, Bayley is attacked from behind by Nia Jax. She goes for the A-Nia-Lator on Bayley, but she is attacked from behind with a shinai by "Michin" Mia Yim.

It is announced that Trish Stratus will be the official host for Money In The Bank.

Backstage, Tommaso Ciampa talks about how they became NXT Tag Team Champions in tonight's venue eight years ago, and Johnny Gargano talks about how he returned two years ago in tonight's venue. Gargano says tonight is not about the past, and Ciampa says it is about catching lightning in a bottle and becoming champions.

#DIY (Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano) beat Grayson Waller and Austin Theory with a Garga-No Escape from Gargano to Grayson as Ciampa has Theory in the Silician Stretcher to become the WWE Tag Team Champions!

We hear from Solo Sikoa. He talks about the necklace, which makes him the Tribal Chief. He says he does not want this, but his family needs it, as Roman Reigns was not man enough to defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and The Bloodline's (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, Jacob Fatu) legacy, and that Roman is not the Tribal Chief because he is Tribal Chief now. Solo says he will take back the Undisputed WWE Championship, and if Roman wants his title back, he can come and take it from him. He says that he will take the title from Cody and that Cody will acknowledge him.
