Dynamite 250 - Dynamite recap for July 17, 2024

MJF beats Will Ospreay to become the AEW International Champion with only 2 seconds left in a 60-minute match. During the match, MJF shoves Ospreay into the referee, and after Ospreay reneges on using the Tiger Driver '91, MJF hits Ospreay with a knockout punch. The referee comes to in time to make the pinfall just before time runs out. It is not apparent until after the match that the Dynamite Diamond Ring - which is now just outside of the ring - was used as a foreign object when MJF landed his knockout blow. After the match, oxygen has to be administered to both MJF and Ospreay, and while Ospreay stays down, MJF is woozy as he heads to the corner to raise up the International Championship.

Backstage, Arkady Aura interviews Mark Briscoe and The Acclaimed ("Platinum" Max Caster and Anthony Bowens). Max Caster asks Mark Briscoe to be part of Team AEW with Anthony Bowens, with Anthony Bowens saying they beat The Young Bucks (Nicholas and Matthew Jackson) recently and almost became tag team champions. Mark Briscoe says that they are in after, but he is not the only one calling the shots. Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana show up, and Swerve says that they have been at war in the past with each other as well as with The Elite (Nicholas Jackson, Matthew Jackson, "The Rainmaker" Kazuchika Okada, "Scapegoat" Jack Perry), then says it is best to team up with those you have gone to war with and makes them part of Team AEW.

It's time for The Learning Tree with Chris Jericho. "The Learning Tree" Chris Jericho says Little Rock, Arkansas can take lessons from him, as it is such a high-crime city and can do better than more than 1,000 incidents per person. Jericho says he has only missed a few episodes of Dynamite and angered the fans when he did, then says he will never miss another Dynamite until Dynamite 500. Jericho then states that when people do not listen to The Learning Tree (Chris Jericho, Big Bill, "The Bad Apple" Bryan Keith), bad things happen, as Hook has had a fireball thrown in his face and Samoa Joe has been put through a wall with a forklift. He says that everyone should listen to him and that his lessons are very important, then asks who would be foolish enough not to listen to him before Minoru Suzuki suddenly shows up. Minoru Suzuki produces a piece of paper on his way to the ring, then looks at the FTW Championship, takes the mic and says "Next week." Bryan Keith takes the paper from Suzuki, and finds out that it is an official order stating that he and Big Bill are banned from ringside from the match. Suzuki then headbutts Jericho, then leaves after mocking Jericho's "Hi, guys!" mannerism.

Backstage, we hear from The Elite (Nicholas Jackson, Matthew Jackson, "The Rainmaker" Kazuchika Okada). Nicholas says they have heard what The Acclaimed ("Platinum" Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) and Swerve Strickland have to say about them, and that The Acclaimed will not become tag team champions. Matthew says The Acclaimed need a reminder of who they are, and after next week, they will have all the gold and all the power. He also warns that the AEW World Championship may soon end up vacant after Swerve sees who he is dealing with in The Elite. Mercedes Moné shows up and thanks The Elite from banning Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. from ringside for her match, then Okada asks Mercedes to do her dance for The Elite. Okada then starts burning up.

Mercedes Moné retains the TBS Championship against "The Native Beast" Nyla Rose. During the match, Mercedes produces a glove to lock in the Lockjaw, but Nyla bites Mercedes' fingers. Mercedes then locks in the Statement Maker (formerly known as the Banks Statement) to make Nyla submit and retain the TBS Championship. After the match, Mercedes rips a front row fan's sign, then finds out that the fan is really Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. in a Sting match. Britt chases after Mercedes, and security soon gets involved.

We see a video package of Mariah May's betrayal of "Timeless" Toni Storm.

Backstage, we hear from "Scapegoat" Jack Perry, who says that Darby Allin has his attention and that he does not give a shit about Brandon Cutler. We then find out that Perry has attacked Cutler, and Perry lays him out in the nearby boiler room before telling Darby to meet him tonight so he can show him what a real sacrifice is like.

Mariah May - who plays the part of "Timeless" Toni Storm and even comes out to her entrance - heads to the ring. The entrance music cuts out as Mariah is halfway down the ramp. Mariah says everyone saw her betrayal of Toni Storm coming except for Toni herself, and says Toni is so desperate for the spotlight that she did not realize she was giving it all away. She says the question should not be "Why?", but "Mariah, what took you so long?" Mariah admits she did not think this would last so long, either, then says it was so easy and that she was having so much fun stringing Toni along. Mariah says she wanted to see how far it could go, then she say Wembley and decided why she should take the old horse out back when she could kill it in front of as many people as possible. Mariah then says she has been Toni Storm and that she can now be so much more, then tells Toni not to worry, as she still loves her and she has never loved her more than when she was on her knees in pain and screaming her name. She calls this "Toni's greatest performance" before declaring that he greatest performance will be at All In, because now, All Elite Wrestling is "all about Mariah."

In backstage footage from Collision, Arkady Aura interviews The Bang Bang Gang (Austin Gunn, Colten Gunn, "Rock Hard" Juice Robinson). Interim EVP Christopher Daniels and a referee both show up to strip The Bang Bang Gang of the United Trios Championships under threat of suspension, then The Bang Bang Gang declares to The Patriarchy (Christian Cage, "The Prodigy" Nick Wayne, Killswitch) that they will take the titles back.

Swerve Strickland beats "The Rainmaker" Kazuchika Okada by disqualification after he is attacked by The Young Bucks (Nicholas and Matthew Jackson). After the match, The Young Bucks and Okada proceed to attack Swerve, then The Acclaimed ("Platinum" Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) show up to even the numbers game. "Scapegoat" Jack Perry then shows up to make the brawl four-on-three until Mark Briscoe arrives and cleans house before Perry hits him with a draping DDT. Swerve hits Perry with the House Call, then "Hangman" Adam Pearce shows up and approaches the ring. Hangman and Swerve have a staredown until Okada drags Swerve out of the ring. Hangman and Swerve soon brawl on the outside and take their brawl through the crowd while everyone else brawls on the outside, then Darby Allin's entrance music hits. Darby comes down from the rafters Sting-style, then everyone brawls, with both Team AEW (Swerve, Briscoe, Caster, Bowens, Darby) and The Elite (Nicholas, Matthew, Okada, Perry, Hangman) complete for next week's Blood & Guts match.

Here are the highlights from tonight's show!
