Generation NXT - NXT recap for July 2, 2024

Jaida Parker beats "Michin" Mia Yim in a street fight.

Backstage, Karmen Petrovic is annoyed by a sighing Arianna Grace. Arianna says Sol Ruca snatched with her soul, and with it, her heart, as she is from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and she really wanted to perform in her hometown for Heatwave. As Karmen says she is also from Toronto and Arianne says that Karmen is not as Canadian as she is, Jacy Jayne and Jazmyn Nyx show up to mock both them, and Karmen Petrovic is ready to fight them.

We hear from Je'Von Evans, who is looking forward to the NXT Championship Fatal 4-Way Match at Heatwave and becoming NXT Champion.

We hear from Kelani Jordan, who lists off her accomplishments prior to being the NXT Women's North American Champion before stating that she will walk out of Heatwave as champion.

New Catch Republic (Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne) beat Hank Walker and Tank Ledger.

We hear from Shawn Spears, who has that he returned to guide and lead the young talent, but he has been met with reluctance. He says that he will now lead by example, and when he returns home, he will reach his pinnacle, and the young talent will see the light and follow his lead when he wins the NXT Championship.

In backstage footage from earlier today, Oro Mensah talks with Robert Stone and Stevie Turner and finds out that he is back in action tonight against Myles Borne. He then finds out he will not be heading to Heatwave, which Mensah is strangely okay with.

Izzi Dame beats Brinley Reece. During the match, Tatum Paxley shows up and creeps Izzi out, and continues to do so after the match.

At Chase University, Duke Hudson reveals that his win last week was not exactly clean thanks to Ridge Holland. Ridge apologizes saying he wants to part of a family, not just a group, and that he was just trying to help. Andre Chase asks Ridge to stay back during Heatwave.

Lola Vice is in the ring. She calls out Roxanne Perez, who shows up with two security guards, who are here to ensure Lola does not knock her out and steal her title again. Roxanne says she can see through Lola, knowing it is the most important match of her career. She also says that Lola is not the same person who cashed in her Women's Breakout Tournament contract. Lola says Roxanne may be the champion, but she is a fighter in the ring or in the cage. Roxanne says she also saw Lola's match with "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler at Battleground and admits she may not last two minutes with Shayna, then says this is a wrestling match, not Bellator, and that Lola is in her world that she has mastered. Lola says that she was a fighter since before she was born, and that her mother was pregnant with her during her Black Belt and that she became a fourth-degree Black Belt at taekwando. She was training for the Olympics when her mother got sick, and she got into MMA to support her family, and in two years, she fought in Madison Square Garden. She says her mother will be watching when she becomes NXT Women's Champion. Roxanne says Lola believes every word she is saying and that she respects her story, but every other woman wants to make that same phone call and she makes sure those phone calls are ever made as she builds her legacy. She says that Lola will not take her title and that nobody else in the locker room will have it, either. Lola says she does not have to give it to her, as she will take it, as she took Roxanne's best shot and smiled while Roxanne took hers and she took her title. Lola says she will prove she is the best to cross over from MMA to WWE when she becomes the first-ever Cuban-American NXT Women's Champion. She then stares at Lola, and when security steps up, one of the security guards gets knocked out with the spinning back fist. Lola says she may be stepping in Roxanne's world, but when she knocks her out, she will not know which world she is in.

We hear from "All Ego" Ethan Page, who brags about attacking both Oro Mensah and Trick Williams and beating Je'Von Evans after making his name worldwide, and this Sunday, he will become NXT Champion.

Backstage, Damon Kemp shows up showing brass knuckles to the rest of No Quarter Catch Crew. Charlie Dempsey chews him out for it, then tells Myles Borne that his best friend is the power advantage and that he should use it.

We see footage of Eddy Thorpe deejaying, and as people are watching footage of a recent gig, Lexis King shows up and says Eddy should be ashamed of himself and that rock 'n roll is real music compared to EDM. Eddy says Lexis could learn something new if he opened his mind, and Lexis leaves.

Oro Mensah beats Myles Borne after Damon Kemp inadvertently distracts Myles by trying to hand him brass knuckles.

We see a video package for Wes Lee vs. Oba Femi for the NXT North American Championship at Heatwave.

Backstage, Tyriek Igew and Tyson Dupont are brawling with Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang). Referees run in to break up the brawl.

Backstage, Malik Blade and Edris Enofé speak with Brinley Reece, and Edris says positivity does not always bring results. Brinley is bummed out and she, Malik and Edris leave. Afterwards, The O.C. (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) show up in front of the camera, wanting a match with OTM (Bronco Nima and Lucien Price) next week.

Wendy Choo beats Carlee Bright by submission. At the start of the match, it is announced that Tyriek Igew and Tyson Dupont vs. Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang) later tonight will not be happening, with both teams being checked on backstage.

We hear from Trick Williams, who calls Sunday his biggest test yet, and he says that while anything can happen, the only thing happening is him retaining the NXT Championship.

We hear from Senior Vice President of NXT and Talent Relations Shawn Michaels, who says that Brooks Jensen has been the cause of numerous disturbances in NXT in the last several months and has disparaged the NXT brand. He announces that next week, there will be a sit-down meeting to steer him in the right direction.

Jazmyn Nyx beats Karmen Petrovic after Jacy Jayne grabs Karmen by the foot on the outside.

Backstage, Nathan Frazer is focused with WWE Speed while Axiom is focused on their upcoming tag team match with Chase University (Andre Chase and Duke Hudson). Frazer says that they will be fine and that he will be focused when the time comes.

Backstage, Karmen Petrovic meets with General Manager Ava and finds out that Natalya has met with her, and that she and Natalya will face Jazmyn Nyx and Jacy Jayne on the Heatwave pre-show. Arianna Grace shows up wanting to tag with Karmen Petrovic.

We hear from Sol Ruca, who talks about how she taught herself everything she knows through trial and error and became a successful college gymnast, and how she was in her element at Battleground. She admits she came up short that night, but one cannot be afraid to fail. She says she is walking the walk and bringing the heat to become NXT Women's North American Champion.

Trick Williams, Shawn Spears, Je'Von Evans and "All Ego" Ethan Page meet in the ring for a contract signing for their Fatal 4-Way Match for the NXT Championship at Heatwave. Trick says that everyone will be chanting for him, and Ethan Page says Trick that regardless of the match that he is in, he will bring the same energy and fight for the fans and with his emotions, but that Trick's swagger will get in the way. He says that he can beat Trick to become champion, but he does not have to. Trick says he may have less experience than anyone else who has worn the NXT title, but he has worn it well and has put in the work, and he will add one more win to his resumé. Shawn says Trick loves the sound of his own voice and that he himself loves this emotion, then tells Trick to keep doing his thing because his emotion will bring the title to him, as it is the same emotion that gave him the win against Trick last week. Shawn then says that Je'Von Evans is happy to be there as he signs the contract, and compares Je'Von to the team that makes it to the championship game but does not have what it takes to win the big one. Je'Von says everyone wants to use his age to make him look like a punk or make fun of his lack of experience, but he is more than happy to be here, and after making fun of Shawn for never being NXT Champion, he says he will show Shawn what a champion looks like. Je'Von then signs the contract. After that Ethan signs the contract, then says he and Shawn have beaten Je'Von and asks Trick if he can do the same. Trick says he likes Je'Von a lot, but says he - or anyone else - can take his title. Shawn and Ethan then argue over who among the two of them will win as Trick signs the contract, then Shawn makes fun of Je'Von's young age before a brawl breaks out when Je'Von chews Shawn out. Shawn and Ethan then end up slammed through tables to end the show.

Here is the recap for tonight's show!
