Layin 'da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for July 2, 2019

SmackDown Live gives its well wishes for a speedy recovery to both Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley following their no-disqualification match from last night.

Kevin Owens shows up to start tonight's show with another edition of The Kevin Owens Show. Tonight's guests are Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre. As he introduces them, Owens reads through multiple cards. Shane and McIntyre show up, and after a "proper introduction" from ring announcer Greg Hamilton, Owens replays Shane and McIntyre's meeting with The Undertaker from last night. Shane says he is not afraid of The Undertaker, for he is on a hot streak after beating The Miz and Roman Reigns and he plans to add The Undertaker to that streak at Extreme Rules. Shane tells McIntyre that their match with Roman Reigns and The Undertaker is a no holds barred match, and McIntyre says that Roman and The Undertaker stepping in the ring with them will be "a vicious, physical assault like nobody has ever seen before." Owens replays Shane and McIntyre retreating into the crowd from last night, and says that the look on Shane's face makes it look like he is afraid of The Undertaker, but says it is just a coincidence they were in the fourth row because of how The Undertaker is. Shane tells Owens to do his job and read from the cards in his hands as they agreed upon, and Owens continues to read through the cards. Unfortunately, the questions are not to Shane and McIntyre's satisfaction. Suddenly, Dolph Ziggler shows up, and Owens screams at Ziggler to get over feeling like the WWE Championship should have been his. Ziggler says he should be WWE Champion right now, then makes fun of Owens' size, saying he should be in a hot dog eating contest. Owens says he would at least win the hot dog eating contest, which is more than what Ziggler can say about wrestling matches. Owens asks who is more deserving of a title shot, and Shane says neither of them are. Shane proposes that Ziggler and Owens team up tonight to face Heavy Machinery (Tucker and Otis), with the winners going on to the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match at Extreme Rules, making it a Triple Threat Match. After Owens and Ziggler argue, Owens demands his entrance music be played so that he can leave. The entrance music plays, and Owens leaves.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews "The New" Daniel Bryan and Rowan. Daniel Bryan says Shane McMahon has made a lot of unpopular decisions lately that everyone has to accept, but he and Rowan are walking both in and out as "the planet's tag team champions."

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Xavier Woods and Big E. Woods is aware that he and Big E don't have to be pinned in order to lose, but they are always ready for a fight and to take back the SmackDown tag team titles. Big E says they are going to kick the door open and take back the tag team titles for the sixth time.

"The New" Daniel Bryan beats Big E following the interference from Rowan behinds the referee's back.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews R-Truth, who says that he has heard that Drake Maverick and his wife here and he wants the WWE 24/7 Championship back.

Backstage, Alexa Bliss asks Nikki Cross to host A Moment Of Bliss. Nikki is reluctant, but after Alexa says she will do great, Nikki looks forward to it.

The Sarabia Family is the recipient of tonight's Little Caesars Seat Upgrade.

It's time for A Moment Of Bliss with special guest host Nikki Cross, who thanks Alexa Bliss for the opportunity before going on with the show, saying she will speak a little more slowly to be the best host she can be before introducing tonight's guest, Bayley. Bayley is impressed with Alexa giving Nikki the spotlight, but tells her she does not have to do Alexa's bidding. Nikki says she is here to ask the tough questions, and asks why Bayley thinks Alexa is a liar. After Bayley says that Alexa is a lair, Nikki says she is tired of Alexa's name through the mud. Bayley then asks Nikki why Alexa is facing her at Extreme Rules instead of Nikki, but Nikki asks why she isn't facing Bayley in the ring right now. Bayley takes this as a challenge, and accepts it. This starts a match.

Bayley beats Nikki Cross.

We hear from Ali, who says that while everyone is chasing the WWE Championship for money and fame, he is chasing it for change, for when he becomes WWE Champion, he will change people's minds and prove that anybody can succeed.

Kayla Braxton hosts a face-to-face meeting between Kofi Kingston and Samoa Joe in the ring. Kofi shows up first, followed by Joe. Joe tells Kayla to leave the ring so he and Kofi can discuss some "sensitive subjects." After Kayla leaves, Joe calls this an act of generosity and benevolence, something that he says Kofi is used to. Joe says he knows a hustler when he sees one and recognizes that he hustles with charisma, then says Kofi uses the people and is no better than he is and that he won't be surprised when Xavier Woods is his hype man and Big E is his butler. Kofi tells Joe that he did not need Woods or Big E to beat Daniel Bryan, Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler, and that he will beat Joe all by himself. He then says he almost feels bad for Samoa Joe, and asks where the Joe that took on all challengers now that Joe is hiding around and taking people out from behind. After Kofi tells Joe that he is too big to be playing hide and seek, Joe praises Kofi for always being ready with an answer before accusing him of using his family to push T-shirt sales. Kofi says Joe is jealous before calling him "Jealous Joe" - which the fans chant - and says Joe is jealous he will never have a WrestleMania moment to share with his kids. Joe says it doesn't matter how much truth he tells about people, as people live in their willful ignorance, and proposes that Kofi shake his hand in recognition that for the next two weeks, he has recognized that he will become the WWE Champion. He then states that all offers have two sides, and says that if he shakes his hands, he will guarantee the safety of everyone he holds dear up until Extreme Rules. Kofi is reluctant, and Joe gives him five seconds to shake his hands before he slaps him around. Instead of shaking his hand, Kofi flips him off before hitting Joe with Trouble In Paradise.

Backstage, Sarah Schreiber interviews Heavy Machinery (Tucker and Otis). Otis says tonight is their big chance, and Tucker says that while Dolph Ziggler and Kevin Owens have eighteen titles between each other, they are not a team like they are. The way they see it, Ziggler and Owens will implode, and they will go on to Extreme Rules.

We see video footage from earlier today from Bobby Lashley's Twitter account. Lashley says Braun Strowman got what he deserved for ramming him into an unsafe area and nearly killing him, saying it is not wrestling. He says Braun did not care, and while he is banged up, Braun got the worst of it. The next time he sees "that son of a bitch," he will send him to the morgue instead of the hospital.

Andrade beats Apollo Crews following the interference from Zelina Vega behind the referee's back.

Backstage, Kevin Owens tells Dolph Ziggler to stay on the apron and let him do the work, but Ziggler says he should be the one doing all the work. Owens admits that Shane McMahon may have a point and that they may not have done much since they both returned, but they've done good on their own and they may be better as a unit. Dolph proposes they be professional tonight and just go out there and win. Owens agrees, and both men shake hands.

Carmella wishes Ember Moon luck backstage as Ember Moon makes her way to the ring.

We hear from Aleister Black, who says that there was nobody at the door after the knock, and says that they are fighting on both a physical and spiritual level to the point that he cares less about their reveal and more about their arrival at Extreme Rules. He says he and his mystery adversary will fight through seven layers of Hell, and if they fight in purgatory, so be it. Aleister says he finds himself invigorated, for if his opponent was man enough to knock on his door and reveal themselves at Extreme Rules, they will pick a fight with him.

Ember Moon beats Mandy Rose.

Shelton Benjamin moves his eyes across the room after being asked who will win the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules, then smiles and leaves.

"The New" Daniel Bryan, Rowan and The New Day (Big E and Xavier Woods) guest on commentary for the next match.

Heavy Machinery (Tucker and Otis) beat Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler to advance to the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship match at Extreme Rules after Ziggler inadvertently superkicks Owens. During the match, both the team of "The New" Daniel Bryan and Rowan and The New Day (Big E and Xavier Woods) go at it after arguing with each other on commentary, and Rowan breaks down The New Day's orange commentary table and knocks off all the pancakes before putting Woods through it. After the match, Owens hits Ziggler with the Stunner.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
