Raw Deal - Raw recap for May 13, 2024

Drew McIntyre heads to the ring to start tonight's show. McIntyre says the greatest trick the Devil pulled was convincing everyone he does not exist, and that the greatest trick CM Punk pullled was looking like a drug addict without taking any drugs, and that he manages to get the fans to take him back every time he messes up. He calls CM Punk fans "stupid," then shows his irritation towards CM Punk somehow being one step ahead of him, and says he will not waste his time with someone "who will not be cleared after 20 years." He says he will deal with "Main Event" Jey Uso when the times comes, as he has "the paper champion" Damian Priest to deal with.As McIntyre continues to talk about Priest, Priest shows up and enters the ring, then says McIntyre has some serious issues before telling him to say what he has to say to somebody's face. McIntyre reiterates that CM Punk keeps running away from him, then puts Priest over for putting in the work and being an inspirational success story before telling him he does not deserve to be champion, as the title is making the man, not the other way around. As McIntyre says the World Heavyweight Championship needs him to make it and that Damian Priest knew he could not beat him, Priest gets sick of McIntyre talking and asks him if he even picked this life before telling him to find a mirror and "blame that asshole" in it. He says he wanted to cash in earlier, but McIntyre kept stopping him from doing, and that him being cashed in was all on him. He says that all he had to do was leave and have his moment with his wife, but he saw CM Punk and made him more important than anything else. After making fun of him for being beaten up by a one-armed man, he tells him that he will get his World title shot, and while McIntyre can call him a paper champion all he wants, he will make him eat those words.

During the recap of the first round of the Queen of the Ring Tournament, it is announced that "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler beats Maxxine Dupri in a house show in Macon, Georgia to advance to the quarterfinals. (Maxxine Dupri replaced Baszler's original opponent Zelina Vega, who is out with an injury.)

We see footage from the parking lot from earlier today, where Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky, Kari Sane) confronts "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark and officials quickly step in.

Iyo Sky beats "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler to advance to the semi-finals of the Queen of the Ring Tournament. Another random QR code is seen during this match. After the match, Jackie Redmond interviews Iyo Sky in the ring. Iyo Sky speaks in Japanese as says she will soon become Queen of the Ring.

Backstage, Damian Priest sees Carlito in the clubhouse with The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio). Carlito says they all agree that Rey Mysterio is a selfish bastard and they could use a little extra muscle with Rhea and Dominik injured. Priest says he is okay with this, but tells Carlito he is not welcome in the clubhouse. Carlito chalks it up to himself not being trustworthy, but tells Priest that the most stubborn minds can be changed and that "one day, we can all be amigos."

Backstage, Chad Gable meets with the rest of Alpha Academy (Otis, Maxxine Dupri, Akira Tozawa) and chews out Maxxine Dupri for losing in the Queen of the Tournament before syaing that Akira Tozawa and Otis have chances at redemption with Sami Zayn. Ivy Nile shows up after Chad Gable leaves and tells Maxxine she should not have to put up with Gable after Gable is now keeping her training outside of Alpha Academy. Gable tells Ivy Nile has potential, then tells her to stop wasting time with Maxxine.

In the recap for the first round of the King of the Ring Tournament, it is announced that Kofi Kingston beat Rey Mysterio in a house show in Macon, Georgia to advance to the quarterfinals.

Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviews The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods). Kofi says he is not stranger to doing the unthinkable, but tonight is about revenge after what Gunther did to Xavier Woods, and there is no room for fear, self-doubt or failure as the King of the Ring Tournament means a lot. Woods says everyone knows how dangerous Gunther is, and while he is injured, Kofi is the man who will be able to defend his honor and prove The New Day rocks.

Lilian Garcia is the special guest ring announcer for the next match, after giving Samantha Irvin kudos for doing a great job as a ring announcer.

The Miz shows up, and Pearce mentions that The Awesome Truth (The Miz and R-Truth) needs number one contenders for the World Tag Team Championships. When Kiana leaves, R-Truth wonders if that is even PG.

Gunther beats Kofi Kingston with a Boston Crab to advance to the semifinals of the King of the Ring Tournament despite Kofi attacking and weakening Gunther's left leg before the bell.

Backstage, Jackie Redmond interviews Lyra Valkyria, who says that last week was a perfect way to kickstart being on Raw. She tells Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky, Asuka, Kairi Sane) to get used to seeing her on Mondays, for she is here to stay and she has no problem backing up Becky Lynch, who shows up to thank Lyra. After this, Liv Morgan shows up and welcomes and congratulate Lyra before asking if Becky has always been such a bitch. Lyra tells Liv to ask Becky herself, and Liv turns around only to get punched in the face by Becky, who tells her that she is not the one who is afraid of a face-to-face fight.

Kaiser says Gunther does not have to prove anything to anyone after Gunther walks out of the interview, and says that if Sheamus believes he lost because of him, then he is delusional. He admits Sheamus has had an incredible career, then says Sheamus will never beat Gunther and that Sheamus should be thanking him right now for saving him from Gunther, who will be the man who can expose and embarrass him in front of the world.

Backstage, Jackie Redmond interviews General Manager Adam Pearce when New Catch Republic (Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne) shows up to thank Pearce for the opportunity next week, then Pearce says that a new era means new opportunities, such as a Fatal 4-Way Match to decide new number one contenders for the World Tag Team Championships between New Catch Republic, The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar), The Creed Brothers (Julius and Brutus Creed) and The Judgment Day (Finn Balor and JD McDonagh). When asked why Bron Breakker is not in the King of the Ring Tournament, Bron Breakker shows up and says his opponents are in the deep end with him, and he would have drowned everyone in the tournament and smiled. He then says he should have been in the tournament and leaves.

Lyra Valkyria beats Zoey Stark by countering the Z360 with the Nightwing to advance to the semifinals of the Queen of the Ring Tournament. After the match, Jackie Redmond interviews Lyra Valkyria in the ring. Lyra says she is travelling where the crow flies, which is straight to the top.

Sami Zayn beats Otis after avoiding the Vader Bomb and hitting the Helluva Kick. After the match, Chad Gable chews out Otis post-match like he did Akira Tozawa earlier tonight, but shoves Otis by the face. Sami gets back in the ring and hits Gable with an Exploder Suplex before Gable avoids the Helluva Kick. When Otis helps Gable out of the ring, Gable blames the attack on Otis and slaps him.

Becky Lynch beats Dakota Kai by disqualification after Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane attack her as she has Dakota in the Dis-Arm-Her. After the match, Iyo and Kairi continue to attack Becky, then Lyra Valkyria runs in to make the save. As Damage CTRL (Dakota, Iyo, Kairi) retreat, Liv Morgan sneaks up from behind Becky and throws Becky into the ring post.

Backstage, Jackie Redmond interviews Ilja Dragunov, who says that it is a dream or destiny to be in WWE and feel moments like this, but for him, it is not enough to be here; he is here to make an impact and it starts by becoming "The Tsar of the Ring." He says that he took Gunther to the limit, and he promises to take Jey Uso to that limit. He also says that he is not just a different kind of animal, but a different kind of dragon. As he says it is not over between him and Gunther, Gunther shows up and smiles, then walks away.

The Judgment Day (Finn Balor and JD McDonagh) beat New Catch Republic (Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne), The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar), The Creed Brothers (Julius and Brutus Creed) in a Fatal 4-Way Match to become #1 contenders for the World Tag Team Championships after Carlito hits Pete Dunne with a Backstabber on the announce table.
