Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for March 24, 2024

Before the show begins, we see footage from the kick-off where Triple H announces that the winners of the King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring Tournaments will be guaranteed championship opportunities at SummerSlam.

Nia Jax beats Bianca Belair to advance to the finals of the Queen of the Ring Tournament. After the match, Kayla Braxton interviews Nia Jax in the ring. Nia tells Lyra Valkyria, who is watching from the crowd, that he busted through Bianca Belair and all of her opponents the same way she will bust through her to become queen and champion.

Backstage, Tiffany Stratton says "Better luck next time," to Bianca Belair and leaves as Bianca ices her leg. Bianca ices her knee as Byron Saxton interviews her, and as Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae show up and mock Bianca. Jade Cargill soon shows up, and after Indi and Candice walk away, Jade says she will speak with General Manager Nick Aldis.

It's time for The Grayson Waller Effect. A QR code pops up before the show begins. Tonight's guest is LA Knight, but Carmelo Hayes interrupts before Knight can be introduced. Carmelo says it sounded like Grayson Waller and Austin Theory were talking about him and were missing a couple of things. While Theory is initially reluctant, Grayson is more than happy to make Carmelo their guest when Carmelo says guys like them should stick together. Carmelo says guys like Bobby Lashley are selfish egomaniacs, then says Knight is a veteran who has accomplished nothing and does nothing but talk. Theory and Grayson agree, and as the three of them agree to continue tonight's show, LA Knight shows up. LA Knight tosses one of the plants out of the ring as he makes his entrance, then tells Carmelo Hayes is poking around with a sharp stick and that the dog is eventually going to bite. Carmelo hits Knight with a cheap shot, and Grayson and Theory soon join in before The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) and B-Fab show up. The Street Profits even the odds, and stand in the ring with LA Knight.

We hear from Blair Davenport, who talks about living one's truth. She says that everyone is weak and lazy and that bad things happen to them because they allow it, and that they are not successful because they are not good enough. Davenport then dares anyone whose feelings are hurt to do something about it.

LA Knight and The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) beat Grayson Waller, Austin Theory and Carmelo Hayes in a six-man tag match.

In footage from yesterday's kickoff, Logan Paul hands his brass knuckles to Michael Cole, saying he will beat "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes cleanly for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Backstage, "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes shakes Randy Orton's hand and wishes Orton good luck.

It is announced that SummerSlam 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 1st and 2nd, 2026 will be expanded to two nights.

"The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes heads to the ring. Before Cody can say anything, however, Logan Paul shows up. Logan Paul says that Cody just got played and that he has another title in his sights and that he will be walking out as double champion. He says that Cody may have the experience, but he is smarter, and the bleach is getting to Cody's brain. Logan says he is a better athlete, entertainer and wrestler than Cody, then says that he has handed his brass knuckles to Michael Cole and will not need them to beat Cody tomorrow. Cody says Logan is not an idiot, but his experience leads him to believe that Logan is a scared kid who will be seen as a fraud in WWE and a YouTube pretending to be a pro wrestler. He says that he does not believe that and that Logan is good, and that Logan is suffering from impostor syndrome and is carrying another set of brass knuckles right now. Logan says Cody can call him many things, but a liar is not one of them, and that he gave his only brass knuckles to Michael Cole. Cody then has referee Ryan Tran check Logan Paul for weapons. Logan tells Ryan Tran to check Cody first, and Ryan Tran says that Cody is clean. He then checks Logan, and finds another set of brass knuckles. Logan says these are his brother's pants and that he does not wear Prada. Logan tells Ryan Tran to check Cody first, and Ryan Tran says that Cody is clean. He then checks Logan, and finds another set of brass knuckles. Logan says these are his brother's pants and that he does not wear Prada. He says that he does not see him as a YouTuber and believes that he is a pro wrestler and a WWE Superstar, but until Logan takes this seriously and gives his all without treating this as "part-time," he will never be WWE Champion, and he will beat him badly. He also tells Logan that he will regret ever stepping into the ring with him.

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviews Randy Orton. Orton says that ever since Tama Tongo stepped foot in a WWE ring, he has proven himself vicious, unhinged and unpredictable, but he has made a name out of himself that way, and while The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Paul Heyman, Tama Tanga, Tanga Loa) has the numbers, he has overcome odds and tonight will be no different.

Backstage, Bayley runs into Nia Jax, who tells Bayley to keep the championship clean for her until SummerSlam.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews B-Fab and The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford), who celebrate their win tonight until #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) shows up and congratulates them before telling them they are taking the tag team gold. As this goes on, Ciampa takes Dawkins' cup and pours the drink out.

Bayley beats Chelsea Green. After the match, Piper Niven hits Bayley with a cross body. Bayley fights back, then the two of them brawl before Piper hits Bayley with a spinning sidewalk slam followed by a couple of sentons. She then teases leaving the ring before hitting another senton for good measure at the behest of Chelsea Green.

Backstage, "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles speaks with General Manager Nick Aldis, asking for one more chance against whoever becomes Undisputed WWE Champion between Cody Rhodes and Logan Paul, mentioning his recent two near-wins and saying he needs this. Aldis says that he respects him and is willing to go to bat for him, but he cannot give him he wants, and that getting another one will take time. Styles says he does not have time. Aldis says that is not something he can help him with, and apologizes.

We hear from Andrade, who says that lucha libre is in his blood as a third-generation superstar and that he is not only a luchador, despite being judged his entire life. He says that he controls his destiny and that he knows who he is and what he wants, and now he will show everyone who Andrade "El Idolo" is.

Backstage, Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Berto, Garza, Elektra Lopez) chat about Andrade, then Santos Escobar says that they should let bygones be bygones regarding Andrade.

Backstage, Paul Heyman tells Solo Sikoa that Tanga Loa is not here only because he cannot make it across the border, and says that he is recruiting dangerous people into The Bloodline (Solo, Heyman, Tama Tanga, Tanga Loa). Solo says he knows, and that he is the man in charge until Roman Reigns returns. He says that if there are any problems, it is up to Heyman to fix them. As Heyman brings up Tama Tonga, Tama Tonga says he was recruited because he is that dangerous, and tomorrow, he will bring gold back to The Bloodline under the order of the Tribal Chief.

Gunther is seen watching from the front row before the next match.

Randy Orton beats Tama Tonga after decking Solo Sikoa at the ring apron to advance to the finals of the King of the Ring Tournament. After the match, Solo Sikoa attacks Randy Orton from behind, then Kevin Owens runs out and makes the save for Orton, forcing Solo to retreat.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
