Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for May 17, 2024

Bianca Belair beats Tiffany Stratton to advance to the semifinals of the Queen of the Ring Tournament after shoving Tiffany down to stop the Prettiest Moonsault Ever and hit the K.O.D. After the match, Cathy Kelley interviews Bianca in the ring. Bianca says her knee may not be at 100%, but she gives her best every time, and next week, injury or not, nothing is stopping her from becoming Queen of the Ring.

Backstage, Logan Paul meets LA Knight as he is about to meet with General Manager Nick Aldis. Nick Aldis asks Logan to meet with him as Logan and Knight have a staredown.

We see WWE Superstars meeting with members of the United States military in Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida as part of a partnership with USO as WWE celebrates Military Appreciation Month. Members of the Naval Station are seen in the front row.

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviews Jade Cargill. Jade says she has heard all about Nia, and says she is just in her way despite being one of the best. Bianca then meets up with Jade and teases a semifinal match with her next week.

Backstage, Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa leave the room as Paul Heyman asks Solo Sikoa if he has talked with Roman Reigns, to which Solo replies "All the time."

Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviews LA Knight, who tells Tama Tonga that he can introduce himself to a BFT while he introduces his head to the crown. Carmelo Hayes then shows up and says he will meet Knight in the King of the Ring Tournament after tonight, but LA Knight is not impressed.

Tama Tonga beats LA Knight to advance to the semifinals of the King of the Ring Tournament after Tonga Loa pulls Tama Tonga out of the way of a BFT and Knight has a staredown with Solo Sikoa on the outside.

Backstage, LA Knight is talking with referee Charles Robinson when Carmelo Hayes makes fun of LA Knight. Knight shoves Carmelo, and Charles has to stand between them. Jamie Noble also steps in to help Charles out.

General Manager Nick Aldis oversees a contract signing between Logan Paul and "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes for their Champion vs. Champion match at King and Queen of the Ring. Logan Paul arrives first, surrounded by his entourage, followed by Cody Rhodes. Cody brings up how 32 years ago today, "WarGames 1992" (really WrestleWar '92) took place as Stinger's Squadron (Sting, Barry Windham, Dustin Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, Nikita Koloff) took on The Dangerous Alliance (Steve Austin, Rick Rude, Arn Anderson, Bobby Eaton, Larry Zbyszko) in the greatest WarGames match of all time, and considers himself a fan of what he does. He then says Logan is more of a tourist passing through than a fan, and that it is time to get off the train and drop the United States Championship so he can become a Grand Slam Champion. Logan says that Cody has said what his previous opponents have said before, then says he is here to sign a contract as the fans try to boo him out of the building. Logan then looks at the contract, then notices that it is not what he agreed to and tears up the contract, as he wants only the Undisputed WWE Championship and did not agree to put his title on the line. Jim Gillory, a lawyer and litigator who is also part of Logan's entourage, provides a contract that is more to Logan's satisfaction before telling Aldis to tell Cody to sign the contract. Aldis says this is not what he and Logan agreed to and that he will not stand for it, then Jim Gillory asks Aldis if he is threatening his client. Cody tells Aldis to hold up, as he knows how he is when he gets angry, and relieves Aldis of the situation so he and Logan can handle the paperwork. Logan, having already signed the contract, then says that the contract is done and that Cody has not done anything worthy of getting a United States title shot while he himself is worthy of every title in the company, and tells Cody to sign the contract. Cody confronts Logan, telling him that the honeymoon with him over, and that Logan will find out who he is on the inside and that Mike Tyson will knock Jake Paul out while he beats him in Saudi Arabia. He then signs the contract. Logan then goes for a cheap shot, but Cody clotheslines him out of the ring and beats up a member of the entourage before putting him through a table.

Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviews Nia Jax, who says Jade Cargill has to hype herself up after what everything people say about her, then says she, not Jade, will be the Queen of the Ring.

Nia Jax beats Jade Cargill by disqualification to advance to the semifinals of the Queen of the Ring Tournament after Jade blocks a chair shot from Nia and hits Nia with the chair. After the match, Nia and Jade continue to brawl, and referees have to break up the brouhaha. Jade somehow catches up to Nia on the ramp, but officials are at the ready.

Grayson Waller and Austin Theory guest on commentary.

#DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) beat Legado del Fantasma (Berto and Garza) after Santos Escobar and Elektra Lopez get ejected from ringside for distracting the referee and tripping Gargano off the top rope. A QR code is shown before the commercial break in this match. After the match, the QR codes are addressed, and we see the contest of the last QR code, which was a brief snippet of a therapy session that was shown on WWE's Twitch channel.

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviews "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles. On the subject of where he goes from here after his losses at Backlash and in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament, he says he will go to General Manager Nick Aldis' office to see where he goes from here.

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviews Bayley, who is soon met by Chelsea Green and a "snoring" Piper Niven. Chelsea blames Bayley on Piper's loss in the Queen of the Ring Tournament, and that leads to Bayley challenging Chelsea to a match next week.

Randy Orton beats Carmelo Hayes to advance to the semifinals of the King of the Ring Tournament. After the match, Cathy Kelley interviews Randy Orton in the ring, but the interview is interrupted by The Bloodline (Paul Heyman, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa). Orton laughs at The Bloodline's attempts to intimidate him, then introduces himself before he tells Tama Tonga that he will introduce his foot up his ass before introducing him to the RKO.

This week on The SmackDown LowDown: #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa)! Chelsea Green and Piper Niven! Nia Jax!

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
