Grand Slam - Dynamite recap for September 21, 2022

Chris Jericho beats Claudio Castagnoli to become the Ring of Honor World Champion and an eight-time world champion after nearly sending Claudio into referee Aubrey Edwards, hitting a low blow that Aubrey cannot see prior to nailing Claudio with the Judas Effect. Cary Silkin is seen watching the match from ringside (and is used like a human shield by Jericho early in the match), and referee Aubrey Edwards becomes the first-ever female referee to officiate a Ring of Honor World Championship match. After the match, The Jericho Appreciation Society celebrates with Jericho, and Daniel Garcia is not as excited as everyone else in the faction.

We see a video package for Bryan Danielson vs. Jon Moxley for the vacant AEW World Championship.

Hip hop artist Fabolous accompanies Swerve In Our Glory (Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland) to the ring for the next match, while hip hop artist DJ Whoo Kid does the same for The Acclaimed ("Platinum" Max Caster and Anthony Bowens).

The Acclaimed ("Platinum" Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) beat Swerve In Our Glory (Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland) in a rematch from All Out to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships after Billy Gunn is able to hit Swerve Strickland with a Famouser on the outside.

Backstage, Lexi Nair interviews FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler). Wheeler congratulates The Acclaimed as he states they are #1 contenders for the AEW World Tag Team Championships, then The Gunn Club (Austin and Colten Gunn) show up and make fun of FTR for not being on AEW television while claiming they are a younger, better version of FTR. FTR are unfazed.

Tony Schavione interviews Wheeler Yuta on the stage. Yuta is interrupted by MJF before he can talk about tonight's main event, and MJF calls Schiavone a "fat, old prick" before telling Yuta he will never get the reaction he just got because he is a god to the fans and the fans adore and worship him. After MJF says he is "a generational talent," Wheeler Yuta congratulates MJF on the engagement before saying his fiancee may have figured out that MJF is "a spineless, worthless piece of human garbage" and may walk out on him like MJF walked out on AEW. MJF congratulates Wheeler Yuta for going beyond "watching paint dry" territory before saying he is here to wish Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley luck as they fight to lose the AEW World Championship to him. MJF then makes fun of Danielson's history of concussions, Jon Moxley, and William Regal's history of drug problems. Wheeler Yuta slaps MJF, and when Schiavone gets between them, MJF decks him. Yuta goes after MJF again, but he is choked from behind by Morrissey. MJF lays out Yuta with the Dynamite Diamond Ring, and security has to step in.

In backstage footage from earlier today, Tony Schiavone interviews The Baddies (Jade Cargill, Kiera Hogan, Leila Grey). As Jade Cargill says she will win the Women's World title on her own time, Diamante shows up with hop hop artist Trina. Jade says she will see both of them on Rampage.

PAC retains the AEW All-Atlantic Championship against Orange Cassidy after hitting Orange Cassidy with the ring bell hammer on the outside. Referee Bryce Remsburg is unable to see the hammer in PAC's hand, as PAC is able to obscure it with his arm.

Toni Storm retains the AEW Women's World Championship against, Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., Serena Deeb and Athena in a four-way match. After the match, a bloodied Britt Baker attacks Toni Storm, then Jamie Hayter runs in and confronts Britt Baker before the two of them lay Toni out. Meanwhile, Serena Deeb hits Athena with mounted punches. Britt Baker then hits Athena with a curb stomp, and Serena tosses Athena out of the ring before Britt goes for the Lockjaw on Toni. Suddenly, Saraya - formerly known as Paige in WWE - shows up. Serena, Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter soon clear the ring, as does Toni Storm and Athena, and everyone is shocked. Saraya, Athena and Toni stand tall in the ring.

We see footage of Darby Allin carrying a body bag all over New York City, taking the body bag into a subway car and a taxi car, where he tells the driver he is headed to a funeral at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

William Regal guests on commentary for the next match. Before the match starts, MJF is seen watching from the luxury box with the Casino Ladder Match poker chip.

Jon Moxley beats "The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson with a sleeper to win the Grand Slam Tournament of Champions and become the first-ever three-time AEW World Champion!
