Those Dynamite Kids - Dynamite LIVE recap for July 5, 2023

In backstage footage from moments ago, Renee Paquette interviews "Limitless" Keith Lee and Darby Allin. Darby tells Keith lee that if he feels lost in the shuffle in AEW, then he should do somethinga bout it and take their match seriously. Darby leaves, then Keith Lee laughs and says that Darby Allin is "ballsy."

Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin beat Swerve In Our Glory ("Limitless" Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland) to advance the Blind Tag Team Championship Eliminator Tournament after Swerve inadvertently hits Keith Lee with a top rope 450 splash meant for Darby Allin.

We see a video package about how Darby Allin got started in wrestling and how his trainer Buddy Wayne suddenly passed away, and how he watched over his son Nick Wayne ever since. Nick, now 18 years old, is debuting in AEW after having signed a contract at 16 that is now taking effect.

Backstage, Tony Schiavone interviews "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry, who says that he and Hook are going to handle things like men and that he will ask Tony Khan for a match for the FTW Championship. All of a sudden, Hook shows up and attacks Jungle Boy, who retreats back into his car.

In footage from last week, MJF and Adam Cole work out together. MJF takes his turn on the barbells. All of a sudden, MJF makes fun of a large man working out with a barbell weight nearby, but Adam Cole says it is not funny and that it is not socially acceptable before also joining in. Adam Cole then takes his turn on the barbells, and MJF - and the large man - is amazed by how easily Adam Cole can lift a lot of weight.

The Acclaimed ("Platinum" Max Caster, Anthony Bowens, "Daddy Ass" Billy Gunn) beat The Blade and The Bollywood Boyz (Harv and Gurv Sihra) in a trios match. After the match, Harley Cameron shows up on the video screen and says it is only fair she gets what she deserves after The Acclaimed received the same last week, and that she will soon show what real talent is. Billy Gunn has two words for Harley Cameron: "Suck it."

We see footage of Eddie Kingston defeating KENTA to win the New Japan Pro Wrestling Strong Openweight Championship.

We hear from Jon Moxley, who says that he and Eddie Kingston have gotten everything they ever wanted out of the wrestling business and yet Eddie still complains about the next generation that he and Eddie have helped build. He says that he has become what Eddie Kingston could have been and the fans wanted him to be, and tells Eddie to answer his phone.

We hear backstage from Renee Paquette and RJ City, who draw the mystery tag team partner for Matt Hardy this Friday in the Blind Tag Team Championship Eliminator Tournament out of a tumbler. It ends up being Jeff Jarrett, much to Matt's chagrin.

We see a video package for Kenny Omega vs. Wheeler Yuta later tonight, where Wheeler Yuta states that he is the favorite to win tonight after he has battered and broken Omega and that tonight is about ending him to decide the war for The Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, "The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson).

Chris Jericho heads to the ring. Jericho says it is a little bittersweet in tonight's venue, as over the last few months, he has had a lot of big losses to his name and things have not gone the way he has wanted them to. He says it is time to re-evaluate a few things and make a couple of changes, and that Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is the perfect place to be reinvigorated as it is the place where he started his pro wrestling career. He says it seems like only yesterday that he started training with Stu Hart down the road, and he also had his first match in the neighboring town of Ponoka. He talks about his drive to tonight's arena and how he remembered what it is like when he first starting wrestling and how the passion and the fire was everything to him. Jericho then says that wrestling is still everything to him, and that he feels "reinvigorated and resurrected" and that it is time to become not just "a better Chris Jericho," but "the best Chris Jericho ever." Suddenly, Don Callis shows up, and he mentions how six years ago to this very day, he called him from a hotel in Tokyo and asked him to main event the Tokyo Dome with Kenny Omega, which Jericho surprisingly accepted. He says that the match changed the course of wrestling history, and without, there would be no AEW and nobody would be here right now. Jericho talks about how he helped him back into professional wrestling in 2015 to escape a miserable international career and get him into AEW, and says that without him, there would be no Don Callis in AEW. Callis says that as with most things in their friendship, he is in agreement, and that when the two of them get together, they make history. Callis then talks about "a coward punk" named Kenny Omega betrayed him and forced him to build a new family based on trust after Omega destroyed the old, and when he thinks about trust, he thinks of Chris Jericho, whom he calls "the greatest of all time" and his "best friend." Callis then asks Jericho if he wants to join "the Don Callis family" and change history one more time, and Jericho asks Callis if he is seriously asking him to do this before saying he creates factions, not joins them, before telling Callis "Maybe." Jericho then leaves the ring.

We see a video package for CM Punk vs. Samoa Joe in the men's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament later this week on Collision.

Backstage, Renee Paquette interviews Doc Sampson and Roderick Strong in the trainer's room. Roderick is making progress, but that there will be a little bit of time before he can get back in action, despite Roderick saying that he feels great. Adam Cole shows up and tells Roderick Strong to take care of himself and that he has all the time in the world. When Roderick asks about MJF, Adam Cole tells Roderick to worry about ihmself and not him or MJF before getting a text from MJF asking if he is ready to hit the double clothesline.

MJF and Adam Cole beat The Butcher and "Daddy Magic" Matt Menard to advance the Blind Tag Team Championship Eliminator Tournament (despite not hitting the double clothesline). After the match, MJF asks if there are any "Devil worshippers" in the crowd before asking if there are any Adam Cole fans. MJF then tells Adam Cole that they should have another "bro session" and asks the fans if they want to see them hang out one more time. Cole responds with "Sure, Max, why not?" MJF then wishes Adam Cole a happy birthday before streamers shoot out of the corner and members of the backstream crew bring out a modest birthday cake while wearing party hats. MJF puts a party hat on Cole's head and a streamer in his mouth, then sings "Happy Birthday" to Adam Cole before making him make a wish. Adam Cole blows the candle on the cake out, then plants MJF's in the cake before thanking MJF for doing everything he did for his birthday.

Backstage, Renee Paquette interviews Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. Britt says that Ruby Soho has a lot to say with her new friends and attitude and that she does not care what anyone has to say about her, then says she lied to the fans when she said she took everything from her, because nobody can ever take her pride, because she will always be the face of the women's division, and being the very first women's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, which she took from Ruby. She says she will win the tournament all over again thanks to Ruby and that it is a shame they have to meet in the first round this time.

Backstage, Renee Paquette interviews Chris Jericho, Daniel Garcia and Sammy Guevara. Daniel says The Jericho Appreication Society is supposed to be Jericho's family, and Jericho says that while they are still are his family, they cannot be under his wing forever and that they have to be able to do great things without him. After Daniel and Sammy find out that they are a team in the Blind Tag Team Championship Tournament Eliminator, Jericho tells Daniel and Sammy that the tournament is the perfect opportunity to win the tag team titles on their own and prove to him that they can be the leader around here.

Ruby Soho beats Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. to advance in the women's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament after grabbing onto Toni Storm's hand following a Victory Roll on Britt Baker. After the match, Skye Blue confronts Ruby Soho on the stage before their semifinal match in the tournament next week.

Kenny Omega beats Wheeler Yuta. During the match, Don Callis shows up, but security stops him. All of a sudden, Konosuke Takeshita shows up from behind and hits Omega with a Blue Thunder Bomb as the referee is out of the ring dealing with Callis. Nevertheless, Omega kicks out, and when Wheeler Yuta goes up top, Kenny Omega punches him between the legs in the face and hits him with the One Winged Angel to win. After the match, Claudio Castagnoli attacks Kenny Omega, and Takeshita joins in. The rest of The Elite (Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson, "Hangman" Adam Page) soon rush in with chairs and lay out both Takeshita and Claudio as the show fades to black, and Page has to be kept from hitting Claudio with the chair just before the show ends.

Before the match, "Daddy Ass" Billy Gunn runs into the ring and hits Swerve with a takedown before BJ Whitmer shows up and escorts him to the back.

We see MJF on the "Pardon My Take" podcast, who says that he if wants to be in top form at Full Gear, he should not be on the road. He says that match is Moxley is all he cares about, and says it could be the potential crowning of the next generation of professional wrestling. He says that once in a blue moon, someone leads the charge for the next generation, and that he will be the one to do it that night. MJF says that all he has to do to etch his name into history is to have a long, fruitful world title reign. He admits that Moxley is not easy to beat and that he does not like him, but that he does respect Moxley for working hard to become the man that he is and become the best in the world. MJF then says he will lose that title, because he was born to be the best. MJF says that he can do it all and wave the flag of the AEW brand as well as professional wrestling, and bring professional wrestling back to where it belongs and bring it back to being the thing people talk about it. He says the throne is for the taking and that he will take it. MJF states that big matches in the past should have been his moment, but the spotlight was on something else. He then says that he is grabbing the spotlight and that Moxley will have to take it from his cold, dead hands. MJF says that William Regal backed the wrong horse and that he does not need the Dynamite Diamond Ring to knock Moxley out, and at Full Gear, the devil will get his due.

We hear from Stokely Hathaway, who says that when he and MJF were younger, he thought they wanted the same things. He then says that MJF lost his way and is "dick riding" Jon Moxley without a license. He then says that he does not need MJF and that he can do this himself, and that at Full Gear, he will see MJF in Hell.

"All Ego" Ethan Page beats Eddie Kingston to advance to the semi-finals of the AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament after Stokely Hathaway gets on the apron and keeps Eddie Kingston from getting the win by submission. Jose says that Rush will win the AEW World Eliminator Tournament, become world champion, and give Preston "10" Vance the first title shot while stating the rest of The Dark Order will never get a shot. Rush tells 10 to think carefully, as he does not give second opportunities. John Silver says "Back off, Rush-bag," which infuriates Rush and causes Jose the Assistant to hold him back.

Ari Daivari and Jeeves Kay are in the ring, and Daivari offers Jeeves Kay's services in exchange for the TNT Championship.

Wardlow retains the TNT Championship against Ariya Daivari. After the match, Wardlow calls out Powerhouse Hobbs, and Hobbs shows up. Wardlow says he has a suitable opponent and thanks Hobbs for coming out like a man, then tells him he is not getting the TNT Championship and that the title will also be his. Tony Schiavone hosts the face-to-face meeting between Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. and Saraya in the ring. Britt Baker arrives first, followed by Saraya. Saraya announces that a couple of weeks ago, she went through a barrage of medical tests, then announces that she is 100% medically cleared and that AEW is her house. Britt Baker asks if there is anything more fickle than an AEW fan, then questions if Saraya can still wrestle and says Saraya has been coming after her since she showed up before saying she made AEW into a fortress that Superstars wanted to move into. She says that she is proud of that accomplishment, but that pride turned into resentment when Saraya showed up and called the fortress her house when she did not lay a single brick, and that she is everything Saraya wishes she could have been. She also tells Saraya that she left her house and walked into hers, and tells her that she does not take walk-ins and to make an appointment. Saraya says it is cute that Britt Baker stands on a pedestal when Tony Khan gave her the spotlight and she ate a bunch of "QT's trainees," then says Britt does not know what it takes to be a star. Saraya says she travelled for free, wrestled the same day she was hit by the cars and got turned down for events because she was female, and that she has started revolutions before it was a trend. She then says that she has been in the biggest arenas only to be in front of "an ungrateful bitch," and that she has publicly battled drugs publicly while giving her life and her neck for the business. Saraya then says it will be her comeback and the biggest match of Britt's career when they square off at Full Gear. Britt goes for a cheap shot, but Saraya fights back and hits her with the Ram-Paige.

In backstage footage from earlier today, Lexi Nari interviews Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt and Satnam Singh, who pays The Factory with an envelope full of money. Beretta goes after Satnam Singh, but Jay Lethal gets the cheap shot from behind and hits Beretta with the Lethal Injection for the win. After the match, Sonjay Dutt says he made good on his promise from last week by bringing out Jeff Jarrett, who then shows up. Jarrett says he is in AEW because when a friend calls, a friend shows up, and that the four of them are setting up a plan. He talks about how he gave Jay Lethal his first contract and how Sonjay Dutt has an IQ of 181. Jarrett then calls Satnam Singh "a legit, 7'5" giant" and is not "a large man in red skinny jeans produced by a banana-nosed circus," and the only player in NBA history to be born and bred in India. He then puts out a challenge as a crew member tries to tell him to wind his promo up, and Jeff Jarrett responds by chasing him with his guitar.

Backstage, Renee Paquette interviews Jungle Boy, who says that he is not done with Christian Cage and that leaving Luchasaurus lying in a pile of wood last week was just the beginning. He then challenges Christian Cage and Luchasaurus for Full Gear, and that he will handle his business face-to-face.

Jon Moxley and William Regal head to the ring. Jon Moxley talks about how he thought he had it all figured out when he met William Regal and how he tried to pick a fight with him to become feared and respected only to be tortured and brutalized. He says that made him grow and evolve, and when he got his revenge, Regal took him under his wing and told him that the real work had begun. He and Regal then say that reminds them of MJF, and Moxley talks about their brief history and how MJF thought he had it all figured out until he beat the hell out of him and showed him where he stood. Moxley then says that MJF has come back around for his shot and asks what will be different this time, and that MJF is having an existential crisis as he asks "Who is MJF?" He says that MJF has the look of someone rich and talks the talk, but he does not buy it, and says that MJF calls himself a pillar despite having no weight atop his back and that MJF calls himself "the devil" when he himself has met the devil. Moxley says that MJF is not the devil after all the bad people and things that he has seen, then says that all he cares about concerning MJF is what is in his guts, as he will bring it out of him when they wrestle, and says everything MJF has done until now has been easy.

He then says it got under his skin when William Regal told him that he used his brass knuckles because he wanted to and implying he could not beat Moxley without the Dynamite Diamond Ring. MJF then promises for one night and one night only that he will not use the Dynamite Diamond Ring as a weapon at Full Gear, as he does not need the ring and all he needs is a grudge, which he is chockful of and has mashe ddown into a chip on his shoulder, and at Full Gear, he is fighting "every single sorry scumbag who ever told him that he was not good enough," then taking the chip and shoving it down their throats when he becomes AEW World Champion. Suddenly, Stokely Hathaway shows up and says MJF wants Moxley at 100% at Full Gear and promises not to lay a hand on him. He says that he is not the same kid that he was when they first clashed, as Moxley is playing a character and pretending to be tough while he is not, and says he is a joke like the fans before mentioning Moxley's childhood before trashing it. MJF also mentions Moxley being bullied as a kid and how it forces men to build up a front which has caused the fans to chant for him every week, then says he does not buy it because he knows he is the same scared kid from the slums who is now old enough to drown his sorrows in alcohol. MJF gives Moxley for facing his demons and beating alcoholism, then says his brain is more dangerous than Moxley's disease before warning Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson that bad things happen to those who get in his way. He tells Moxley to skip the World title tournament finals, as he would not want to make the mistake of winning his world title, then mentions the story of a demon that Moxley told on his return and that Moxley will find out he is that demon if he does not tread lightly. He says that The Firm is on retainer as MJF's support system while they get more opportunities for themselves, and that this is one of the rare nights everyone will see The Firm, as they will go their separate ways if MJF does not need them. Stokely Hathaway then says he is a friend - not a publicist, a manager or an assistant - and that he has a ton of connections to make anything and everything happen. Hathaway says that everything he has done since Double or Nothing has been to infiltrate the system, and that there is not one rock he has not left unturned. He says that the juicier the gossip, the more power one has, and that there is nothing that wakes up in the morning than "old-fashioned blackmail." Stokely then says that he knows what W. Morrissey wants to do whatever he wants. Stokely Hathaway then says that it is time that Lee Moriarty became a star and brought honor to the Ring of Honor Pure Championship, then says The Gunn Club (Austin and Colten Gunn) are men, not boys, and do not want to walk in the shadow of "their broke ass daddy." He says that they want to - and will - be AEW World Tag Team Champions, then addresses "All Ego" Ethan Page, who wants to represent Canada and win the AEW All-Atlantic Championship. Stokely then says everyone has two options: run with The Firm, or run against them.
