They're On A Rampage - Rampage recap for August 19, 2022

Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta head to the ring to start tonight's show, and Claudio meets Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat in the front row on the way. He says that while it is great to stand in the ring as Ring of Honor World Champion, it is an even bigger honor to stand in the ring in front of Steamboat. Claudio admits he feels more at home in wrestling gear than in street clothes, then issues an open challenge for next week to anyone to wants to step up to him. His challenge is quickly answered by Dustin Rhodes. Dustin admits they have been in their share of battles and that he has dreamed of holding a world title for 34 years. He tells Claudio that if he accepts his challenge, he will give the best "natural" Dustin Rhodes he has ever seen in his life. Claudio says the longing for a world title provides a hunger for Dustin and eats at him, and that he sees the same fire he has had for 34 years in his eyes. He says he did not lose his fire when he won the ROH World Championship, then accepts his challenge. Dustin gives Claudio his word that he will see him next week and leaves the ring.

Backstage, Lexi Nair interviews Ortiz and Ruby Soho. Ruby Soho says they have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on The Jericho Appreciation Society, and Ortiz makes it clear he wants a fight right now.

Swerve In Our Glory (Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland) retain the AEW World Tag Team Championships against Private Party (Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy).

Backstage, Lexi Nair interviews The Factory. QT Marshall says he hopes Powerhouse Hobbs has more luck, then Hobbs shows up and topples the domino table. Marshall swears that The Factory will take care of "Absolute" Ricky Starks. Powerhouse Hobbs leaves.

Before the next match, "The Reality" Zack Clayton says he is the biggest star "in this disgusting wasteland of a state, West Virginia" and that it is a shame he has to win the FTW Championship here. He says that he will win the title and bring it back to a state that is worthy of respect in New Jersey.

Hook quickly retains the FTW Championship against "The Reality" Zack Clayton in seconds with Redrum.

Backstage, we hear from Angelo Parker and Matt Menard. Menard says Hook thinks he is a tough guy and that he "wants a taste." Parker says the FTW Championship has history, then asks what it would be like if a sports entertainer won it.

Backstage, Lexi Nair interviews Billy Gunn, who says that Austin and Colten Gunn put their big boy pants on at the wrong time with the wrong person, and that opens thedoor to spank their asses. Billy Gunn then says that he is coming next week with some friends: The Acclaimed ("Platinum" Max Caster and Anthony Bowens).

Buddy Matthews beats Serpentico. After the match, Miro shows up with Malakai Black's mask, then brawls with Buddy on the ramp. Miro is briefly distracted by Julia Hart, but that does not stop Miro from beating Buddy up further. Buddy slaps Miro in the face when he asks "Where are the pagans?" This earns Buddy a Machka Kick to the face.

Backstage, Lexi Nair interviews Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter and Rebel. Rebel kicks Lexi Nair out of the interview as Britt Baker says she might as well watch the "shitstorm" that is Thunderstorm (Thunder Rosa and Toni Storm) if she is not at All Out. She says that lightning cannot strike twice and that Thunder Rosa cannot beat Toni Storm twice, and that Toni Storm joined Thunder Rosa when she could not beat her. She then says she, Jamie and Rebel will be watching and waiting.

"The Fallen Goddess" Athena beats Penelope Ford. After the match, Leila Grey and Kiera Hogan attack and restrain Athena as Jade Cargill and Stokely Hathaway show up. Jade Cargill then breaks the mechanical wings that Athena entered in with a sledgehammer before heading to the ring. Cargill then gets in the ring and hits Athena in the stomach with the sledgehammer.

We see a video package for CM Punk vs. Jon Moxley for the undisputed AEW World Championship.

We see a video package for Powerhouse Hobbs vs. "Absolute' Ricky Starks, where Starks says he has a lot to say next week.

Mark Henry interviews Best Friends (Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta, Orange Cassidy) and The Trust Busters (Ari Daivari, Slim J, Parker Bordreaux, Sonny Kiss). Ari Daivari says tonight is a walk in the park after what happened to Orange Cassidy last week and that they will become Trios Tag Team Champions. Beretta says that they are not a team and have no chance of winning, and Chuck Taylor says that they won last time and will win again tonight.

Best Friends (Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta, Orange Cassidy) beat The Trust Busters (Ari Daivari, Slim J, Parker Bordreaux) to advance in the AEW Trios Tag Tournament after Danhausen curses Slim J from the front row.
