Heatwave - NXT 2.0 recap for August 16, 2022

Carmelo Hayes retains the NXT North American Championship against Giovanni Vinci even after Trick Williams' interference attempt backfires.

Toxic Attraction (Mandy Rose, Gigi Dolin, Jacy Jayne) meet with Bron Breakker. Both sides agree they have uphill battles tonight, and Mandy says "I guess we'll see who leaves with their title," and Breakker says "Yeah...we will."

We hear from Julius Creed, who says that he found what he was looking for while looking at recent tapes and that he will address what he found at Heatwave.

We hear from Von Wagner and Robert Stone. Stone brags about Solo Sikoa being on the shelf for some time and well as Von Wagner still standing and being in shape for football. Von Wagner says that anyone smaller or weaker than he is will not survive in his jungle.

Diamond Mine (Roderick Strong, Julius Creed, Brutus Creed, Damon Kemp) head to the ring. Julius Creed says he and his brother Brutus Creed got an opportunity to learn from Roderick Strong a year ago, and they jumped at it and worked to become Dusty Cup winners and tag team champions. He says that they have worked hard to become NXT Tag Team Champions, then says it has come to his attention that someone is trying to destroy what they have built, and that he is calling that person out: Roderick Strong. Roderick Strong says he started Diamond Mine and that he saw The Creed Brothers had a lot of potential and just need guidance that he never got, and he says with pride that they are the best tag team in WWE and that they can take The Usos. Julius says they are not the future, but the now, and as soon as he has the opportunity, Strong will stab them in the back. Brutus tells Julius that he has his back, and Strong tells Julius to be careful with the next words that come out of his mouth. Julius says everything he does is calculated and that he is tired of playing games. We then see video footage of their eight-man tag team match against The D'Angelo Family (Tony D'Angelo, Troy "Two Dimes" Donovan, Joaquin Wilde, Cruz del Toro). Julius accuses Strong of colluding with Tony D'Angelo. Strong says that Julius has had something against him since May, then Gallus - Wolfgang, Joe Coffey and Mark Coffey - from NXT UK show up and attack The Creed Brothers and Damon Kemp before attacking Strong. The arena then glows green as Gallus stands over a laid out Diamond Mine.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Roxanne Perez. Roxanne says this is the most nervous she has been before a match and that she never thought she would be standing across the ring from Cora Jade, but Cora wanted this after ending their friendship. She says that Cora has nowhere to hide, and that she has made her bed and will have to lie in it.

Cora Jade beats Roxanne Perez after Roxanne Perez takes Cora's Kendo stick away only for Roxanne to toss it down, allowing Cora to hit a cheap shot and a DDT onto the Kendo stick to win.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Josh Briggs, Brooks Jensen, and Fallon Henley. Gallus (Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, Wolfgang) shows up, and Narj Coffey says they should not be tag team champions, and Joe Coffey says they will be on top. After Joe Coffey challenges them to a match and Josh Briggs accepts, officials have to hold both teams back.

We see a video package chronicling the events leading up to the Street Fight between Tony D'Angelo and Santos Escobar.

Santos Escobar wears his mask from his days as El Hijo del Fantasma on the way to the ring for the next match.

Tony D'Angelo beats Santos Escobar in an All Or Nothing Street Fight after both men see their signature weapons and go for them only for D'Angelo to strike first. (As per pre-match stipulation, Santos Escobar must leave NXT. Had Santos won, Legado del Fantasma [Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, Cruz del Toro, Elektra Lopez] would be freed from The D'Angelo Family.)

Backstage, Indi Hartwell meets with Hayden Carter and Katana Chance, saying she cried when they win the NXT Women's tag titles and looks back on her tag team days, then Indi Hartwell receives a letter from Dexter Lumis. Blair Davenport from NXT UK shows up and takes the letter, tears it in half, and says she is the future NXT Women's Champion.

We see a video package of Tiffany Stratton and Wendy Choo saying they are both done with each other. Next week, they will be in a Lights Out match where anything goes.

We see a QR scan code.

Mandy Rose retains the NXT Women's Championship against Zoey Stark after wearing Zoey Stark's knee brace and hitting her with a knee to the face with it after weaking Stark's left knee. During the match, Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne get ejected for tripping Zoey Stark, and Nikkita Lyons shows up and fights them soon after.

We hear from Quincy Elliott, who confesses that he is bringing "all of this" to NXT. He looks to his left, then his right, and sees people of all different walks of life and it excites him. He says that he works being different because he is "it," and while everyone is a Superstar, he is "a Super Diva." Quincy Elliott is coming soon to NXT.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Grayson Waller, who says that Apollo Crews is selfish and willing to stab anyone in the back to prove he is the man around here. Next week, he will debut his talk show "The Grayson Waller Effect" and make Apollo Crews his first guest.

Bron Breakker retains the NXT Championship against JD McDonagh following three Spears and a powerslam. After the match, Tyler Bate - who is holding the NXT UK Championship despite the whole NXT UK Championship Tournament not having aired in its entirety yet and his first round tournament match against Kenny Williams not airing until Thursday, spoiling that he is the winner of the whole thing - shows up. Both men have a staredown and raise their respective titles to end the show.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
