Raw Deal - Raw recap for August 29, 2022

The Judgment Day (Finn Balor and Damien Priest) beat "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles and Dolph Ziggler. After the match, The Judgment Day (Finn, Priest, Rhea Ripley) look up at the TitanTron and find out that Edge has made it to the arena, then head back to the ring to stand their ground. After the commercial break, Rhea Ripley calls Edge out so she can smash what is left of his manhood, and Finn Balor says he is sick of legends getting the documentaries while he gets nothing. Damien Priest says he had Edge beat last week, then says that Edge does not have friends and family to save him like he did last week and that they will finish what they started. Edge shows up and says that he and Rey Mysterio did not come back to steal their glory, but instead, to teach people how to reach it, and that The Judgment Day's egos got in the way. Edge admits he does not have family to back him up, even though Beth Phoenix is "a badass" and both of them wear the pants in the family, then tells The Judgment Day that they did not pay attention under his learning tree and that he did not show up alone. The Judgment Day are attacked from behind with Kendo sticks by Rey and Dominik Mysterio, and they and Edge soon brawl with The Judgment Day around the ring. Dominik soon comes face to face with Rhea Ripley in the ring, and Rhea Ripley soon coaxes Dominik to let her have it. Edge and Rey get in the ring, and Finn and Priest have to drag Rhea to the outside.

In backstage footage from earlier today, Kevin Patrick interviews The Miz and Tommaso Ciampa. The Miz refuses to give any insight on what Dexter Lumis did to him.

We hear from Aliyah and Raquel Rodriguez. Raquel says that she and Aliyah will become tag team champions tonight.

Alexa Bliss, Asuka and Bianca Belair beat Dani Mo, Katie Hart (who is Katie Arquette, who has just appeared on tonight's AEW Dark Elevation), and Kayla Sparks (who is not even mentioned by name). (With this match, Katie Arquette becomes the first wrestler since Cameron Stewart to be seen on AEW programming and WWE programming on the same night.) After the match, Bianca says Bayley, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai weren't even here a month ago and that they are going down. Alexa says that things are about to get twisted, and that they are not ready for any of them. Bianca says Iyo Sky, Dakota and Bayley may be doing damage control, but at Clash at the Castle, they will be taking control.

Backstage, WWE official Adam Priest meets with The Miz and Tommaso Ciampa and tells The Miz that he has his back regarding Dexter Lumis, who is now free due to Miz not talking to the police and not pressing charges. The Miz insists that there is nothing to talk about regarding Dexter Lumis and tells Pearce to leave so he can focus on his match, even as Pearce says that saying and doing nothing is making it easier for Dexter Lumis to do what he is doing.

Kurt Angle heads to the ring. Angle says it is great to be back home, then hypes up Clash at the Castle before Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Otis) shows up. After the commercial break, Chad Gable admits that Kurt Angle was an inspiration, a motivation and a hero to him. He then says that Alpha Academy is looking for a new member, and that nobody has accepted his open challenge. Gable then says that he and Angle can change the world, and announces that for one night only, he is guaranteeing him 100% acceptance into Alpha Academy for one night. Otis hands him a red-and-white varsity jacket, but Angle says he will pass and tosses the jacket back to them. Gable is shocked that Angle turned his offer down, then Angle takes offenses to being "shooshed." Angle and Gable then "shoosh" each other, then Gable gets enraged for Angle "shooshing a shoosher" and sics Otis on him. Suddenly, The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) show up. Montez says Alpha Academy wants to get hurt, then mentions Maximum Male Models (Max Dupri, Maxxine Dupri, Mace, Mansoor) and Los Lotharios (Humberto Carrillo and Angel Garza) messing up their bus last week and that Alpha Academy is at the right place at the wrong time. After Montez challenges Alpha Academy to a match, Chad Gable accepts on one condition: if Alpha Academy wins, Kurt Angle will have to join them. The Street Profits accept the stipulation. Angle watches the next match from ringside.

Edge and Rey Mysterio vs. The Judgment Day (Finn Balor and Damian Priest) is official for Clash at the Castle.

The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) beat Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Otis). (Had Alpha Academy won, Kurt Angle would have been forced to join them.) After the match, The Street Profits offer a red Solo cup to Angle, who spits it out after taking a sip, then pulls out some milk bottles that the three of them drink instead. Angle then throws milk bottles to some people in the front row on his way to the back.

Members of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team are seen in the front row.

In footage from earlier today, Matt Riddle and Seth "Freakin'" Rollins have a physical confrontation in the parking lot that is quickly broken up.

Corey Graves interviews Matt Riddle (who now goes by his full name again) and Seth "Freakin'" Rollins, who are both in separate rooms. Rollins says Riddle was creeping around his bus and has been a thorn in its side, then says it is his time, not Riddle's. Riddle says Rollins knows he is going to embarrass him, and Rollins retorts by saying that nobody can stand Riddle and that when he finishes what he started a few weeks ago, he will be doing everyone a favor. Riddle says it will take a lot more than what Rollins has been doing to get rid of him, and Rollins says that if he has to put him on the shelf next to Cody Rhodes, so be it. He then says that after this, he will move on to beating Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. Rollins says he will stomp Riddle's head into the mat one more time and show who the man really is, and Riddle says that he will show everyone that there is one man in Rollins' marriage and that it is Becky Lynch.

On the way to the ring, The Miz is briefly spooked by a security guard, thinking he is Dexter Lumis.

We see footage from after the Matt Riddle-Seth "Freakin'" Rollins interview where Seth Rollins makes fun of Riddle for his wife divorcing him and not being able to see his kids anymore, which angers Riddle and causes him to cuss Rollins out.

Bobby Lashley beats The Miz with the Hurt Lock after The Miz sees Dexter Lumis in the crowd. Miz tells Tommaso Ciampa to turn around, but when he does, Lumis is gone.

Backstage, Kurt Angle is met by Edge, who shows him some pictures of their biggest moments in the ring. This time, the pictures have messages on the back where Edge apologizes for beating him for titles, shaving him bald and starting the "You Suck" chant. The messages end with "But you still suck." After Edge leaves, he shows the photos to Rey and Dominik Mysterio, then realizes he has been tricked by Edge again. Afterwards, Dominik talks to Rey about his match at Clash at the Castle, and Rey says that he is teaming with Edge because he needs experience on his side. He then asks Dominik to be in their corner. Dominik accepts.

We see a video package of the history of Connor's Cure.

WWE Global Ambassador Titus O'Neil, Dana Warrior and some of the kids from the first Connor's Cure campaign are seen in the front row.

Sami Zayn and The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) head to the ring. The Usos announce that this Friday, Roman Reigns will have been WWE Universal Champion for two straight years, and that there will be a huge celebration for him on SmackDown. Sami Zayn announces that Roman Reigns has made him Master of Ceremonies for the night, much to the chagrin of Jey, then calls The Usos the most dominant tag team champions in WWE history. Jey says nothing changes, Jimmy says they are running both Raw and SmackDown, and Jey says that Roman Reigns will beat Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle. Suddenly, Kevin Owens shows up. Owens says that they run nothing on Raw, because it is still "The Kevin Owens Show," then tells them to tell Roman that he still owes him one. After Jey ask Sami if Owens is "his boy," Sami says "technically yes," then tells Sami to get Owens before he does. Sami tells Owens that Roman owes nobody anything ever, then Owens says Sami couldn't make himself look stupider than when he grew his hair out until he joined The Bloodline (Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso) and forgot that he was being one of the best of all time. He calls Sami "The Bloodline's personal clown," and says that he still views him as a friend before telling Sami to look in the mirror and reflet on things, but Sami says Owens has no idea what he is talking about and that The Bloodline actually likes him. Sami then says that Jimmy likes him, that he and Jey are still working on things, and that Roman has personally invited him into his personal locker room. He says that the four of them personally destroyed McIntyre, then Jey threatens to destroy Owens like he did McIntyre. Owens reminds Jey that they and Paul Heyman are the only reason he did not beat Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship, then tells The Usos they can celebrate two years of their heads up Roman's ass. Sami tells Owens that he is trying to keep the peace and that he does not want a problem, then warns Owens that he is making Jey Uso want to kick his ass. Owens then proposes he and Jey just drop the microphones, call for a referee and fight.

Kevin Owens beats Jey Uso after Sami Zayn fails to hit Owens with a chair when Jey holds Owens down while Jimmy distracts the referee.

Backstage, Bayley tells Bianca Belair that she, Alexa Bliss and Asuka have been holding the women's division back, and that the division needs them to bring it back up. After Bayley says that she, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai will beat them at Clash at the Castle, Dakota says they will take over the company starting with the WWE Women's Tag Team titles after they send Aliyah and Raquel Rodriguez back to SmackDown. Iyo Sky says that she and Dakota Kai will run Raw as the new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions.

Kevin Patrick interviews The Miz as he tries to hurriedly leave the arena, but The Miz is not in the mood. As The Miz drives off, Dexter Lumis is in the back of the vehicle.

We get a closer look at Johnny Gargano, courtesy of Pizza Hut.

In footage from earlier today, Johnny Gargano says his return from last week meant everything and that he is glad to be back after wrestling has been out of his life for the last nine months. He says that he was happy to see Austin Theory and that he is happy for his success, then Theory shows up wanting to talk to Gargano as he says that he has not heard from Theory in all that time. Theory wants to know why Gargano hasn't called him while he was being successful on the main roster, then says that he has been busy being jealous of him and playing stay-at-home father, then wishes him luck because he is swimming with the sharks after saying he expected more from him.

Aliyah and Raquel Rodriguez beat Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai to become the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions after Bianca Belair, Asuka and Alexa Bliss show up and chase Bayley through the crowd and Raquel tags in Aliyah - who wins with a schoolkid pin on Dakota Kai - unbeknownst to Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky. After the match, Raquel and Aliyah celebrate with Bianca, Asuka and Alexa, and pyro goes off on the stage.
