Raw Deal - Raw recap for August 1, 2022

Becky Lynch shows up with a cast around her right arm to start tonight's show. She says that in everything she does, she gives it her all, and she has talked about hitting rock bottom and losing her identity after losing the championship, but after SummerSlam, she remembers who she is. She says it is not in the fancy clothes or the constant need for glory, but for the pursuit to be better today than she was yesterday. Becky then says that when she separated her shoulder at SummerSlam, she could either give up or give her all. Becky gave her all for 25 "painful" minutes in which she realized that she was separated from reality, and she realized that it is possible to create the greatest women's division ever. When she lost, she had given her best, yet her best was not good enough. She then says she defines the match and that the match does not define her, that she defines the title, and that she defines "The Man" and not the other way around. Becky says that a new era starts now, but not before she thanks Bianca Belair - who has pushed her every week for the past year - and asks her to come to the ring. Bianca shows up and says that Becky has not only defined "The Man," but she is "The Man." The two of them shake hands and hug. Becky tells Bianca that she will see her soon, then leaves. Bianca says she has nothing but respect for Becky Lynch, even if she has not forgotten how she shook her hand only to smack her with the other. She says the Raw Women's title is worth the work put in, and Becky made the work worth it. She says there is a level of mutual respect between Becky Lynch and to make that happen is worth something, and that she has learned so much from Becky and is still standing as Raw Women's Champion. Bianca says she stays ready so she does not have to get ready, but as she speaks, it is revealed that Iyo Sky, Bayley and Dakota Kai are attacking Becky Lynch's hurt arm backstage. Bianca runs backstage and checks on Becky along with officials after Iyo, Dakota and Bayley run away.

We see a video package on the legacy of the WWE United States Championship.

In a Twitter video from earlier today, Logan Paul announces that we have not seen the last of him in WWE and that the next time he is in a WWE ring, it will be massive.

"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles beats Mustafa Ali and The Miz in a Triple Threat Match after grabbing Ali out of a successful top rope 450 Splash to hit Styles Clash on Ali on The Miz to continue to tonight's match to determine a #1 contender for the WWE United States Championship.

As Becky Lynch is in the trainer's room, Sarah Schreiber interviews Dakota Kai, Bayley and Iyo Sky. Bayley says it is about them, not Bianca Belair or Becky Lynch. They then run into The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso), and Sarah Schreiber interviews them as well. Jimmy and Jey celebrate their and Roman Reigns' SummerSlam victories, then say they will beat Rey and Dominik Mysterio tonight.

Seth "Freakin'" Rollins heads to the ring. He says that he is the host for tonight and that tonight is a night of celebration now that nobody has to hear Matt Riddle ever again. Rollins says it takes a lot of guts to do what Riddle did, but there is a thin line between courage and stupidity and Riddle kept crossing it. Rollins then says that the silver lining to all this is that Riddle is on the shelf with a career-threatening injury like Randy Orton after wanting to be like Randy Orton, and with Riddle out of the picture, he can focus on Roman Reigns. Suddenly, The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) show up, but Rollins wants none of it and says he does not want to shair air space with "the biggest losers in WWE." He also says that The Street Profits should break up after failing as a tag team, then tells them to go back to the back. Dawkins reminds Rollins that they beat him to become tag team champions, and Montez mentions Rollins' Hell In A Cell loss to "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes. Rollins tells them to split up and take him on some other time, but The Street Profits entertain the idea of having one of them beat him and Dawkins brings out a referee so they can play a game of rock-paper-scissors. As they are about to play, Montez Ford grabs the ref and runs off to the ring with him, then narrowly avoids The Stomp. This starts a match.

Seth "Freakin'" Rollins beats Montez Ford. After the match, Seth Rollins goes for The Stomp, but Angelo Dawkins gets in the ring and Rollins retreats.

Alexa Bliss vs. Asuka ends with Bayley, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai attacking both competitors. As Dakota Kai brings a chair into the ring, Bianca Belair runs into the ring, and Bayley, Iyo and Dakota run away. Bianca then says she wants a match with one of them tonight.

Before the next match, Chad Gable says Houston, Texas has a problem and that the problem comes in the form of himself, who has a brain twice the size of Texas. He says he will dispose of Dolph Ziggler and Tommaso Ciampa, win the United States title and put the country on his back.He says he will dispose of Dolph Ziggler and Tommaso Ciampa, win the United States title and put the country on his back. Gable then says that when he does, he will not cheat like the Houston Astros.

Tommaso Ciampa beats Chad Gable and Dolph Ziggler in a Triple Threat Match to face "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles to determine a #1 contender for the WWE United States Championship later tonight.

Edge heads to the ring. He says that for the last few months, he has been "a bit of an asshole," but that changes now that he and the fans both get what they want. Edge says he created The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley) to help some talent reach their full potential, and that they were just getting started until the first taste of power clouded their judgment. He admits that The Judgment Day put one over on him and put him on the shelf for months, but he has pulled himself out of the hell that they put him in and it is time to kill what he created. Edge says he will end The Judgment Day.

Backstage, Kevin Patrick interviews Rey and Dominik Mysterio. Rey says that The Judgment Day has no idea what a savage can be, and mentions his tag team title reign with Edge and that he cannot thank Edge enough for helping them get the win Saturday. He then says that the focus is now becoming the undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.

Backstage, Sarah Schreiber interviews Bayley, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai. Bayley says that everyone is talking about them, and says that WWE has been on a downward spiral since she was gone. Bayley says she took it as a cry for help and took it upon herself to recruit two people who really needed an opportunity. Dakota says they know how to play the game, and Bayley says they know what they want and that is not long before they are in control. Iyo tells Bianca Belair she will see her in the ring.

Bianca Belair vs. Iyo Sky ends in a no contest. During the match, Bayley and Dakota Kai show up and distract Bayley, but Asuka and Alexa Bliss show up to even the numbers game, which restores order. When Alexa stops Iyo Sky from using the ropes for leverage on a pinfall attempt, this leads to a six-woman brawl. Officials have to run into the ring to restore order.

Backstage, Kevin Patrick interviews The Miz and Tommaso Ciampa. The Miz says that he was cheated at SummerSlam and that he had Logan Paul, and that WWE is not a playground for an entitled YouTuber to cash a few paychecks. He also blames AJ Styles on their loss. Ciampa says that Styles chose the wrong side at SummerSlam, and says he used to respect his path to the WWE and his accomplishment, but Styles choses to side with an influencer who made a mockery of their home. He says that beating Styles tonight will be all the more satisfying, and Miz says that Ciampa will be the next elite Superstar under his tutelage.

Booker T guests on commentary for the next match.

Tommaso Ciampa beats "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles to become #1 contender for the WWE United States Championship with help from The Miz, who puts Ciampa's foot on the bottom rope following a Styles Clash and later trying to keep Styles from getting out of the timekeeper's area.

Backstage, Kevin Patrick interviews Bobby Lashley. Lashley says he would not have it any other way and that he will defend the United States title every week if he has to, and that Tommaso Ciampa has proven that he is hungry. However, he will beat anyone, anywhere at any time to bring respect back to the title. He says that he brought a reality check to Austin Theory and that he has no problem bringing down Tommaso Ciampa.

We see the aftermath of Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, where Brock Lesnar stands in the tilted wrestling ring and tips his cowboy hat to the Nashville, Tennessee crowd.

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) retain the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships against Rey and Dominik Mysterio after countering a 619 from Dominik Mysterio with the 1D. After the match, The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley) jump the barricade and attack Rey and Dominik, but Edge shows up and fights off Damian and Finn Balor. Edge goes for a Spear on Finn Balor, but Rhea Ripley pushes Dominik into Edge's way, knocking Finn Balor to the side and forcing Dominik to take the Spear. Edge then chases Finn Balor through the crowd. Medical staff check on Dominik as the show ends.
