Memphis Thing - Memphis Wrestling recap for September 3, 2022

Dustin Starr interviews Shark Boy at the announce desk to start today's show. Shark Boy says it has been too long since he has been in Memphis, Tennessee and thanks the fans for their support. After a shot at Dustin Starr's shark slides (and a "What?" chant), Shark Boy announces that there will be a Shark Boy Open Invitational Battle Royal today, and keeps the details of the match under wraps in order to keep it a surprise and says it will be "good wrestling TV" because Shark Boy said so. It is also announced that the winner will receive a shot at the Memphis Wrestling Internet Championship next week on Championship Saturday.

The LA Hustlers (Notorious Bradley and Ruffshot Lamont) beat The Hot Shots (Brandon Savage and Ethan Ross) by disqualifiation after Notorious Bradley tosses his gold chain to Brandon Savage and falls to the mat, feigning being hit with the chain. The referees sees this, thinks Savage actually hit him, and gives the win to The LA Hustlers.

Backstage, McKenzie Morgan interviews Cassandra Golden and "The Goddess of the Night" Nyxx. Golden says that she is feeling good now that the Memphis Women's Championship match is a triple threat match involving the two of them so that the two of them can get what they deserve, while Nyxx says that while she was not on her A-game at Women's Gauntlet For The Gold 2, but hopefully she will have gold around her waist. Golden says she will have the gold around her waist, then says "May the best woman win."

Dustin Starr interviews The Hollywood Clique. "Hollywood" Jimmy Blaylock says that "Dirty" Diana Taylor is the best women's champion there is and the best that Memphis, the Mid-South and the United States have ever seen. He then reminds Derrick King that he is his personal assistant and to do what he is told when he is told to do it, then says that Dustin Starr and the championship committee have something to do with Ray Sanders no longer being able to referee the Clique's matches and that everyone is jealous of them. He also says that Ray Sanders is "a good Christian man" and has always called it right down the middle (even though Ray Sanders has always favored the Clique). As for Diana Taylor, Blaylock says she will "whup that bimbo up in the ring right now."

"Dirty" Diana Taylor beats Jennifer Justice after "Hollywood" Jimmy Blaylock distracts the referee.

We hear from Brandon Espinosa, who says that Dysfunction (Espinosa, Kyle Roberts, DNA) is not just a word, but a way of life, and that everyone is used to being told how the world is supposed to be, yet they do the opposite and still get accepted. He says that Dysfunction is there to open the third eye and let people know the world accepts them, and while he came to Memphis Wrestling alone, he had found more followers in the form of DNA and Kyle Roberts. Espinosa says that together, they are a force to be reckoned with, and Memphis Wrestling is officially on notice.

We hear from Mike Anthony. He says it seems like everyone has gotten confused, and that he thought he would be done when he took "The GunShow" Brett Michaels' most prized possession in the Memphis Wrestling Heritage Championship, then says it is about more than just the chamionship and that Brett has something he wants: his integrity and everything he stands for. Mike Anthony says he has put him through tables, threatened his manhood, taken out legends and taken out trainees, and yet Brett Michaels will not accept it and go away. He says that is fine with him, as he and the people do not get it, then says "My environment, my rules." He tells Brett Michaels they are not done, and that he is just getting started.

"The True American" Trace Lee Hunt beats Martin with a schoolkid pin after Trace Lee dodges Martin's top rope leg drop.

Shark Boy guests on commentary for the Shark Boy Invitational Battle Royal.

Colton Cage last eliminates Shark Boy to win the Shark Boy Open Invitational Battle Royal. During the match, Balough eliminates DNA, but he gets eliminated himself by Brandon Espinosa and Kyle Roberts before being caught by DNA. Balough tells DNA to put him down gently after being eliminated. DNA puts him down gently, then punches him out. Derrick King is supposed to be the last entrant, but Van Viciouss tells Derrick King to stay outside . When he brags about what he will do, Shark Boy butts Espinosa and Roberts' heads together before eliminating Van Viciouss as quickly as he got into the ring. As it seems that Shark Boy has the match won, Colton Cage - who was never officially eliminated - eliminates Shark Boy to face Zay Washington for the Memphis Wrestling Internet Championship next week. Other competitors include: Storybook Prince Gaston, Perky Will, Kid Wrestling, Brandon Espinosa, Kyle Roberts, DNA, Gio Savage, Brian Balough (of the "Of Marks And Men" podcast), Ray Collins (a WrestleCenter trainee who is making his debut only to be eliminated as quickly as he shows up) and Van Viciouss.
