Raw Deal - Raw recap for September 5, 2022

Edge heads to the ring to start tonight's show. He calls out Dominik Mysterio, saying he has known him since he was a kid before mentioning his history with Rey Mysterio and how he calmed Dominik down in front of his first match in front of a live audience. Edge says Dominik felt like a nephew to him, but Dominik does not feel the same way. He says that he apologized for accidentally Spearing him, and that he did not come back to get between him and Rey. Edge says he felt responsible for The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley) and how they made their lives hell, then says he knows Rey raised Dominik better than that. He says that Rey and Dominik can hash things out, but he is a different beast entirely. Edge warns Dominik that "a man's game is played with a man's price," then tells Dominik that he is going to beat his ass before he gets in the ring. Suddenly, Rey Mysterio shows up instead of Dominik. Rey tells Edge that his son messed up big time and asks for an apology on his behalf, and tells him not to fight Dominik. Edge tells Rey that while he loves him, Dominik is old enough to stand for his actions. Edge calls Dominik out again, but gets Rhea Ripley instead. Rhea tells Rey and Edge that they got what was coming to them, especially when Edge replaced Dominik like he did not matter and Rey though he could protect Dominik. She says that Dominik is not Rey's "baby boy" anymore and that she says the potential in him and made him a man. Dominik then shows up wearing all-black dress clothes, and Rey tells Dominik to snap out of it, as he still has times, and make amends with Edge. Rhea tells Rey that he can't fight Dominik's battles for him, then tells Edge he is past his time and cannot stop his judgment day. Rhea and Dominik approach the ring, then Rey tells Edge he does not want a part of this and that he is out. Rey leaves the ring and confronts Dominik, telling him not to do what he is about to do, but Dominik is only focused on Edge. Rey leaves, and Edge dares Dominik to get in the ring. Suddenly, Finn Balor and Damian Priest attack Edge from behind. Domink gets in the ring and looks down at Edge, then Rey comes back. Rhea and Dominik stand in Rey's way, then attack him and throw him into the ring steps. Damian Priest hits Edge with South of Heaven, then Rhea Ripley hands a chair to Dominik, who in turn hands it to Edge. Damian Priest keeps Edge down so that Finn can hit the knees with the chair, then place the chair on the leg so Finn can hit the Coup de Grace. Finn hits the Coup de Grace on the chair, hurting Edge's left knee, then The Judgment Day leaves as a foursome.

It is announced that Edge has been taken to a local medical facility.

In footage from earlier today, Sarah Schreiber interviews The Miz and Tommaso Ciampa. (Ciampa is now going by the full "Tommaso Ciampa" name again.) The Miz refuses to talk about Dexter Lumis, and Ciampa accuses Sarah of stirring up drama and says Miz is the victim here. As The Miz is talking about his steel cage match with Bobby Lashley, he and Tommaso Ciampa see a crashed, upside-down car.

The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) vs. Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Otis) vs. Los Lotharios (Humberto Carrillo and Angel Garza) vs. The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) in a Fatal 4-Way Match to determine a #1 contender for the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championships ends with Braun Strowman making a surprise return and decimating everyone - including security - before putting Angelo Dawkins through the announce table with a running powerslam. During the commercial break, Strowman grabs Chad Gable and hits him with a running powerslam.

Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah beat Nikki A.S.H. and Doudrop after Raquel is able to grab Doudrop off the top rope and hit her with a Texano Bomb.

Backstage, Megan Morant interviews Rey Mysterio, who says that he loves his son Dominik and needs a word in private with him. As far as The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio), they are trying to tear his life apart. He says that he will not put his hands on his son, but The Judgment Day has it coming, and he wants either Finn Balor or Damian Priest in the ring tonight.

Austin Theory (now going by his full name since Clash at the Castle) heads to the ring. Theory admits things did not go as planned on Saturday, then says Clash at the Castle was a success. He says people wanted to see him fail at his cash-in, but he still stands in the ring with the contract. After stating that he is the future undisputed champion, then says that when he gets knocked down, he gets back up, even if it is a sucker punch from a world champion boxer like Tyson Fury. Theory says that he is glad Roman Reigns is still champion after Drew McIntyre embarrassed himself in front of friends and family, as he and Roman have unfinished business. He says he will end Roman's two-year reign as champion and he will become the new champion, then Kevin Owens shows up. Owens asks Theory what is going on with his jaw after Theory keeps putting his hand on it and keeps moving it, then Owens mentions that Theory got knocked out before saying "You got KO'd! See what I did there?" This starts a "You got KO'd" chant, then mentions that Austin Theory found his first name again before stating that he despises arrogant and delusional people, saying that Theory is the most arrogant and delusional of all. Owens says that Tyson Fury did Theory a favor, because if Theory did cash in, he would have been put in the ground and lost his cash-in opportunity. Theory tells Owens he does not know what he is talking about and says Owens is jealous has not won a title in years while he is climbing the ladder of success and doing things people like Owens could never do. He then says that he feels sorry for Owens and says he will let him be the first person he beats after he wins the undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Owens says that he nearly had Drew McIntyre beaten recently and almost beat Roman Reigns six months into his championship reign, and that Theory only has the Money In The Bank contract because he was not in the match for it. Theory says Owens is in "fairytale land," then says the reality is that he is the future of the business while Owens is trying to stay relevant. Owens says he is where he is because of staying relevant, then tells Theory that he was the hand-picked future, but not anymore, and that sooner or later, a referee will happen and someone makes a match. A referee shows up, and Owens says they can have a fight right now.

Kevin Owens beats Austin Theory.

Backstage, Sarah Schreiber interviews The Miz and Tommaso Ciampa. The Miz insists that he has nothing to say about Dexter Lumis. Ciampa says that if it were not for Lumis, he would have become champion. He says that The Miz has asked for a steel cage to prove he is better than Bobby Lashley. Miz says that tonight, there will be nobody lurking in the shadows and no escape, and he will win the United States Championship.

Members of the Kansas City Chiefs are seen in the front row.

WWE honors Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Captain Thomas "Patrick" Payne.

As Damage Control (Bayley, Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky) head to the ring, Nikki A.S.H. and Doudrop are seen arguing in the background again, and this time, Nikki takes her mask off and throws it at Doudrop before walking off.

Damage Control (Bayley, Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky) head to the ring. Bayley mentions their history at Clash at the Castle, and Dakota Kai mentions that if they can beat the best, then imagine what they can do to the rest of the roster. Iyo Sky says they will take the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships next week. Dakota says she was not legal when she was pinned, then says Aliyah and Raquel Rodriguez can pretend to be champions for another week before they take what is theirs. Bayley says that despite that setback, they overcame at Clash at the Castle. Bianca Belair shows up and tells Bayley that she may have gotten the better of her, she is back tonight, and if Bayley wants a challenge, she will get one. She proposes a match between herself and Bayley tonight. Bayley says that all she is doing tonight is celebrating beating Bianca, but Bianca says it took all three of them to beat her, but if she wants to feel in control, that is okay, because she may have her minions, but she has the Raw Women's Championship. She says that unless it is one-on-one and she has the Raw Women's Championship, Bayley has nothing. Bayley says "Is that right?", then Damage Control leaves the ring and Bayley says she has beaten Bianca and has nothing else to prove. She says that Bianca is still trying to play "Miss Perfect" all the time and that Bianca's ego cannot handle the one loss, and that Bianca is trying to challenge her to make it feel like less of a fluke. Bayley says Damage Control has the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships to worry about, but when she comes for the Raw Women's Championship, she will come for it one way or another.

Backstage, Sarah Schreiber interviews Johnny Gargano. Gargano says he has been swimming with sharks his whole career, but he has a few goals left to accomplishment and Austin Theory has forgotten what he is capable of in the ring. Theory shows up and says nobody cares, as Gargano has been doing nothing but talking. Gargano then tells Theory that next week, he returns to in-ring action.

Damian Priest beats Rey Mysterio when Dominik gets in the way during the 619, allowing Rhea Ripley and Finn Balor to distract Rey and the referee. After the match, The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio) gives Dominik Mysterio a chance to put Edge back into retirement. She then announces that Dominik Mysterio will go one-on-one with Edge next week.

Backstage, Sarah Schreiber interviews Bobby Lashley, who says that The Miz only wants a steel cage to be safe from Dexter Lumis, but Miz will be in the cage with the most dangerous man in WWE. He says that when the steel cage door closes, the only thing Miz will be worried about is him.

Backstage, Braun Strowman declares that the monster of all monsters is back and that no one is safe, and that he will see everyone on SmackDown.

In footage from after Clash at the Castle, Matt Riddle says he let his emotions get the best of him and Seth Rollins stomped his brains into the canvas. He wants a rematch with Rollins and he wants it as soon as possible. Afterwards, Schreiber interviews Rollins, who says he admires Riddle's guts, but he came to Cardiff, Wales and did what he set out to do. He says a rematch is not in the cards and he is moving on to bigger and better things.

Bobby Lashley retains the WWE United States Championship against The Miz after Dexter Lumis pops out from underneath the ring after The Miz tries to climb out of the cage. After the match, Dexter Lumis climbs into the cage. Miz tries to get out, but Lashley shuts the door on him and Dexter Lumis puts Miz in Silence to end the show.
