Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for October 14, 2022

The show starts with a car accident involving Karrion Kross and Scarlett. As Karrion Kross is being checked on, Drew McIntyre attacks him, and referees and WWE official Adam Pearce have to stop McIntyre from slamming a truck door on him. McIntyre tells Kross that this is just the beginning.

Before the next match, The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) talk about their record-breaking 483-day tag team reign and how it will stand forever. Backstage, Sami Zayn is talking to Solo Sikoa when Jey Uso shows up. Jey makes it clear that he does not consider Sami "real family" when Sami asks where Jimmy Uso is, and as Sami tells Solo to hang back, he gets a call from Roman Reigns asking about Jey Uso. Sami Zayn tells Roman that Jey Uso chose to do nothing, and when Jey Uso tells Roman Reigns that Sami told him that he had the match, Roman talks him down.

Sami Zayn beats Kofi Kingston after Kofi reverses the Blue Thunder Bomb into a roll-up only for Jey Uso to kick the roll-up so that Kofi's shoulders are down.

Backstage, Triple H shakes the hands of a few police officers, then Rey Mysterio meets with Triple H and tells him that he has reached his breaking point with Dominik Mysterio, and that he cannot fight him even when he is at his worst. Rey tells Triple H that he cannot do this anymore and that tells him he quits. Triple H tells Rey that he cannot imagine what he is going through, and that there has to be another way. He asks Rey to talk with him for five minutes, and they walk into his office.

Backstage, Roxanne Perez meets with Shotzi when Raquel Rodriguez tells her to watch out for Cora Jade because Cora has changed. Roxanne chooses Raquel for Cora's Pick Your Poison opponent when Damage CTRL (Bayley, Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky) shows up. Bayley takes offense to not being chosen, as she is "the only choice." Roxanne says Bayley is not on a winning streak when Bayley says Roxanne is not on her level, then challenges Roxanne, Shotzi and Raquel to a six-woman tag match.

Braun Strowman beats James Maverick and Brian Thomas in a two-on-one handicap match. (Maverick and Thomas are independent wrestlers Bam Bam Malone and Frankie Thomas, respectively.) During the match, Omos and MVP show up from the stands to watch Strowman, who is briefly distracted by their entrance before winning his match. After the match, MVP gives Strowman credit where credit is due, then says Omos is the "monster of monsters" and not Strowman, who he says looks "normal" standing next to Omos. He tells Strowman not to get too comfortable, as monsters "are not in the shadows."

Backstage, as Sami Zayn asks Solo Sikoa to get business down for The Bloodline and become #1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship, Jey Uso has to remind Sami that he helped him win. Sami is still convinced he won on his own. Solo Sikoa says he missed what happened because he too busy with Jey, then says he will "body some fools" and win some gold of his own, too.

LA Knight beats Mansoor. After the match, LA Knight puts the entire roster on notice, and says that everyone can get their ticket punched because it is his game.

Damage CTRL (Bayley, Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky) beat Roxanne Perez, Raquel Rodriguez and Shotzi after Roxanne blocks the Rose Plant only for Bayley to reverse the pinfall attempt into one of her own.

We see a vignette for The Viking Raiders (Ivar and Erik).

Legado del Fantasma (Joaquin Wilde and Cruz del Toro) beat Hit Row (Ashante "Thee" Adonis and Top Dolla) after Santos Escobar drags Adonis off the ring apron and Zelina Vega attacks B-Fab.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Sonya Deville. Sonya Deville says that Liv Morgan was gifted opportunity after opportunity and failed to prove that she deserved the SmackDown Women's Championship when she got destroyed at Extreme Rules. As she says that Liv Morgan does not have "it," Sonya is attacked and put through a table by Liv.

Before the next match, it is announced that Karrion Kross is unable to compete and that he has been replaced with Rey Mysterio.

Rey Mysterio beats Ricochet, Sheamus and Solo Sikoa in a Fatal 4-Way Match to become #1 contender for the WWE Intercontinental Championship after Jey Uso and Sami Zayn attack Sheamus only to get laid out Ridge Holland and Butch. It is announced during the match that Rey Mysterio is officially a member of SmackDown.

The arena goes dark, and we see a door open. The light in the doorway goes dark, then it lights up again when Bray Wyatt shows up. Bray Wyatt heads to the ring and blows the light out of his lantern, then says that he never expected to be back. He says he is being his genuine self for the first time and that for the last year, he lost his career, his self-confidence, two close friends and his way. Bray then says that when he stopped feeling sorry for himself, he says that people would come up to him and thank him for helping them when they were also weak and vulnerable with his words. He admits that he does not think about that very often and that he can look all the fans in the eyes and say they were there when he was weak and vulnerable, and thanks the fans for saving his life. As he continues to thank the fans, the light above the ring goes dark, strange visions are seen on the TitanTron. The show ends.

This week on The SmackDown LowDown: Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, Cruz del Toro, Zelina Vega)! Shotzi and Raquel Rodriguez! LA Knight!
