Raw Deal - Raw recap for October 21, 1996

On Option 6 of the WWF Superstar Line: Jim Ross explains why Sycho Sid will become the next WWF Champion.

Sycho Sid beats Owen Hart by disqualification after The British Bulldog interferes. "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels rushes into the ring and helps Sid clean house. Sid shakes Shawn's hand, and Shawn tells him he would do the same thing for him.

We see a recap of the Buried Alive match between Mankind and The Undertaker from last night. The man in black that attacked The Undertaker from last night is identified as "The Executioner."

Jim Ross joins in on commentary for the next match.

The Godwinns (Henry O. and Phineas I. Godwinn) beat The Smoking Gunns (Billy and Bart Gunn).

Pat Patterson, "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka and Vincent J. McMahon are announced as inductees of the 1996 Class of the WWF Hall of Fame.

Hunter Hearst Helmsley attacks Mr. Perfect backstage by wheeling an equipment crate into the back of Perfect's leg.

The WWF's Big Bang Boom Tour is heading to Cincinnati, Ohio; Evansville, Indiana; Springfield, Illinois; Chicago, Illinois; St Louis, Missouri; Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Richmond, Virginia!

Jim Ross interviews Bret "The Hit Man" Hart in Hart's first appearance on WWF programming in six months. He says that for the past couple of weeks or more, he's had to deal with a lot of things such as a rival wrestling organization making him a great offer to jump ship. Hart says he's not greedy for money, he's greedy for respect, and after a lot of soul searching, he owes everything he's done and everything he ever will do to the WWF fans. WWF Superstars (one of whom is Rocky Maivia, interestingly enough, who isn't debuting for another five weeks) watch from the back as Hart says that he will be with the WWF forever. As for why he left in the first place, he says that "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels beat him for the WWF Championship and he has no excuses, and he considers Shawn his opponent, not his enemy. He does say that there is something about Shawn that bugs him, and says that while Shawn may be a little younger, a little more popular and maybe even cuter than he is and that he has done a great job as WWF Champion, he says Shawn will never be as tough and as smart as him. He accepts the challenge of the best wrestler in the WWF today, and at Survivor Series, he will face "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. (This causes Brian Pillman to visibly celebrate, which causes "Stone Cold" Steve Austin to look back and give Pillman the thousand-yard stare as if Pillman is acting a fool.) Bret says he may be a little rusty, but maybe he isn't, but he says that Madison Square Garden isn't a church, but it's holy ground, and they'll see who kicks whose ass that night. Since he's been off, he's thought about a lot of things, and knows he has some of the best fans in the world and it is something he takes quite seriously as a role model. He says the one thing missing from the WWF the last five or six months is him, and that he's coming back because it wouldn't be fun not to take advantage of the opportunity not to. Bret talks about how he went to the bedside of a very sick child and how he came out of his illness when he told him that he would come out of retirement if he could turn the corner. The child got better, but unfortunately he passed away not long after. That child was his nephew. From that day on, he decided to come back and give people someone to look up to, and while he can't dance or pose very well for "girly mags," he's the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.

Jerry "The King" Lawler and Todd Pettengill host the first annual Karate Fighters Holiday Tournament. Lawler is disqualified from the tournament after the "taped foot" incident from last year. The first round consists of Bob Backlund vs. Sunny; Dok Hendrix vs. Sable; Sycho Sid vs. Marlena and Mr. Perfect vs. Henry O. Godwinn. Pettengill and Lawler have a Karate Fighters match, which Lawler wins clean.

Mr. Perfect comes to the ring for his match against Hunter Hearst Helmsley with "Wildman" Marc Mero, Sable and WWF President Gorilla Monsoon. Perfect calls out Hunter Hearst Helmsley for injuring him to the point that he can't wrestle tonight. Helmsley calls Perfect a chicken, and Perfect says that Mero is a stand-up guy and has offered to wrestle Helmsley in his place. Helmsley says he is not under contract and not obligated to face Mero, and says the only way he'll face him is if the WWF Intercontinental Championship is on the line. After Mero agrees to defend the belt to return the favor to Perfect for helping him and Helmsley agrees to the match, Gorilla says that the match is on. Mr. Perfect guests on commentary for the next match.

Hunter Hearst Helmsley beats "Wildman" Marc Mero after Hunter Hearst Helmsley grabs a chair after pushing the referee into Marc Mero and knocking the referee down. Sable grabs the chair, but Mr. Perfect grabs the chair from Helmsley. Just when it is believed that Perfect will hit Helmsley with the chair while the ref is down, he hits Mero with it as he gets back up. After the match, it is revealed that it was all a hoax and that Perfect was in cahoots with Helmsley, and that he did all this to help Helmsley get the Intercontinental title. During the match, it is announced that Ahmed Johnson has been temporarily suspended from the World Wrestling Federation, and that more info will be available this weekend on Livewire.

Raw Deal - Raw recap for October 7, 1996

Kevin Kelly announces that Jim Ross is supposed to be on commentary this week, but is nowhere to be seen. We soon find out where Jim Ross really is: accompanying "Diesel" to the ring for the first match of the night against "Wildman" Marc Mero. Jim Ross joins commentary says he had some official business to take care of with "Diesel." During the match, "Razor Ramon" says he's doing fine and says he's going to take a closer look at the in-ring action, and eventually does.

"Wildman" Marc Mero beats "Diesel" by disqualification after "Razor Ramon" interferes. "Diesel" hits the Jackknife Power Bomb on Mero after the match.

The Undertaker tells Mankind his work in the graveyard is nearly at its end, as is Mankind's existence on this earth, and that all that is left to do is to fill the grave he has made with Mankind's rotting, maggot-infested carcass. 'Taker tells Mankind he will not have a nice day and that he will not rest in peace.

Sycho Sid tells Goldust that he dances with the devil, and that he is the master of the game they will play.

"The Heartbreak Kid," The Undertaker and Bret "The Hit Man" Hart denim shirts are available for $49 each plus $7 shipping and handling.

We see a video package of Mr. Perfect, who will return to the ring in two weeks to face Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

Earlier today, The Smoking Gunns (Billy and Bart Gunn) stated that they looked forward to getting the WWF Tag Team Championships back at In Your House: Buried Alive, and Billy proclaims that Sunny will be by their side again.

The Smoking Gunns (Billy and Bart Gunn) beat The New Rockers (Marty Jannetty and Leif Cassidy). During the match, the commentary team interviews Sunny via telephone. Sunny says that if The Smoking Gunns can regain the tag team titles, she'll take them back. She is irritated with the fact that Ahmed Johnson will be live in the studio with her next week on Livewire and states that she will extra security in the studio that weekend. Nevertheless, Sunny says he loves when men beg for his attention, and that she'll be answering their questions for Livewire via fax and e-mail all week long so that they won't have to wait all week to beg.

We see Jim Johnston play acoustic guitar as "The Real Double J" Jesse James sings With My Baby Tonight. It is then revealed that Jesse James is the real singer behind the song. He says he doesn't hate "Double J" Jeff Jarrett, stating that Jarrett took him further than he had been but that he had taken Jarrett further than he'll ever be. He says that Jarrett can't sing or dance or even be entertaining. After the performance, Jesse James states that Jarrett felt great and that it was supposed to be a perfect night, but miscommunication between Jeff Jarrett and Jesse James cost Jarrett the WWF Intercontinental Championship. He says Jarrett can come back if he is willing to drive his Lincoln Town Car. It is then announced that he will be on America On-Line tomorrow night at 8 PM Eastern.

Goldust tells Sycho Sid that he's at the wrong place at the wrong time, and that while Sid might rule the world, he will rule Sid and hopes that Sid has prepared himself.

We see footage from last week's Livewire.

Jim Ross interviews Vader and Jim Cornette in the ring. It is announced that Vader will face Sycho Sid at In Your House: Buried Alive and that the winner of that match will face "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels for the WWF Championship at Survivor Series. Cornette is not happy with this, as he feels Vader should have the title match already due to beating Shawn multiple times, but never for the title as he accuses WWE of "protecting their merchandising cash cow" and that he and Vader "would destroy all that merchandising" and that the WWF has created the #1 contendership match to keep Vader further away from the WWF Championship. He tells Sycho Sid will be in his own private hell when he faces Vader in two weeks, and that Vader will take him out with his own power bomb to continue on to Survivor Series where he will take the WWF Championship at last.

The WWF Superstars take over New York on November 16 for the WWF Hall of Fame Ceremony. The following night, WWF Survivor Series will take place in Madison Square Garden.

Bob Backlund guests on commentary for the next match. The ever-bizarre Backlund says he is now wearing sunglasses - which he does after the match begins - because the WWF does not want him "scrutinizing the plebians" even though he can lift the lenses up and scrutinize them all he wants.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin faces "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels next week on Raw!

The Sultan beats "The Portuguese Man-O-War" Aldo Montoya with the Camel Clutch.

Mankind says he doesn't want to be buried alive, but Paul Bearer says that won't happen. Nevertheless, Mankind jumps into the grave and goes crazy.

"Razor Ramon" watches the main event from backstage.

Sycho Sid beats Goldust. During the match, the commentary team interviews "The Heartbreak Kid' Shawn Michaels via telephone, and Shawn says that he'll have to be more than resilient to survive Survivor Series. He says that there are no friends when the WWF Championship is involved, and that he was born in a world of trouble and that's where he's staying. As for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, he plans to take an ass whipping like he takes everyone else. Jim Cornette then guests on commentary in the middle of the match. After the match, Vader attacks Sycho Sid before hitting him with a splash from the second rope, but the splash only wakes Sid up as it has no effect. Sid gets a few shots in before hitting Vader with the choke slam as Jim Cornette runs to the back.

Raw Deal - Raw recap for October 30, 1995

Goldust beats Savio Vega in his Raw debut.

As per WWE Interim President Gorilla Monsoon, there will be stipulations for Bret "The Hit Man" Hart and Diesel for the WWF Championship No count-outs, no disqualifications and no time limit.

Vince McMahon interviews Jim Cornette, Clarence Mason and The British Bulldog in the ring. Cornette isn't too thrilled about what happened at In Your House, and says The British Bulldog is still being passed over for opportunities, as The British Bulldog won by disqualification but Diesel is still the one going to Survivor Series to defend against Bret "The Hit Man" Hart (even though the title does not change hands by disqualification). Cornette wants to get Bulldog a return match against Diesel (for the championship) or Bret Hart (for costing him the title). He then says that Clarence Mason will help get The British Bulldog a fair shake. Mason says that the actions of Gorilla Monsoon are "outrageous, egregious and totally unacceptable," and that the contract specifically stated that the winner of the match would face Bret "The Hit Man" Hart at Survivor Series, not necessarily the WWF Champion. Mason demands that Bulldog get a match with Hart, as he would be WWF Champion if it wasn't for Hart. As for the wild card match at Survivor Series, Cornette says that Monsoon is trying to shift the balance of power by forcing The British Bulldog and the team Yokozuna and Owen Hart onto opposite sides. As for next week's match with Marty Jannetty, it's just something that Bulldog shouldn't even be thinking about right now, but Cornette and Bulldog agree that Jannetty will be easil used as a stepping stone. Jannetty runs into the ring, having heard this from backstage, and attacks Bulldog from behind before knocking Cornette out of the ring. Jannetty then confronts Clarence Mason, and nearly slaps him before he can get out of the ring.

The Smoking Gunns (Billy and Bart Gunn) beat Phil Apollo and John Rechner. During the match, The 1-2-3 Kid apologizes to The Smoking Gunns for his actions at In Your House, but also demands that they grant him and Razor Ramon a tag team title rematch...and soon.

It is announced that King Mabel and Dean Douglas have both been fined $7,500 for their roles in last week's vicious attacks in the six-man tag team match last week. Also, interim WWF President Gorilla Monsoon will announce who King Mabel will face off against on Sunday, as The Undertaker has recently suffered a crushed face last week after King Mabel and Yokozuna repeatedly came down on his face.

It is announced that Shawn Michaels was beat up in an unprovoked attack in Syracuse, New York by ten individuals and battered in the face even after he lost consciousness, in which case he was rammed face-first into a parked car. His eyes are now swollen shut. (In reality, Shawn Michaels was beaten up by three Marines.) Vince McMahon interviews Shawn Michaels, who says that he's not looking good, but he will still be at In Your House somehow.

Dok Hendrix advertises the Two Dudes With Attitudes shirt with Diesel and Shawn Michaels on it. One size fits most, and it's only $20 with $3.95 shipping and handling and comes with a free classic WWF video cassette.

The WWF Tag Team Championships will be on the line at In Your House when The Smoking Gunns (Billy and Bart Gunn) defend the titles against Razor Ramon and The 1-2-3 Kid. Also, Fatu takes on Hunter Hearst Helmsley on Sunday.

We hear from Goldust, who tells Marty Jannetty he's about to get a major makeover courtesy of Goldust.

Paul Bearer says The Undertaker may never look or be the same again after the attack from King Mabel and Yokozuna, but says The Undertaker will return soon and crush them both.

Next week: a 20-man over-the-top battle royal, where the winner gets a shot at the WWF Intercontinental Championship!

Bret "The Hit Man" Hart beats Isaac Yankem, DDS in a steel cage. During the match, it is revealed that Jerry "The King" Lawler has switched the cage door lock with a fake one when the referee can't unlock it. It is also mentioned that Option 6 has more information on the Shawn Michaels situation. Jerry "The King" Lawler tries to interfere by climbing up the cage wall and attacking Hart when Hart tries to climb out after putting Yankem in the Sharpshooter, and as promised, he is placed in his own cage that is then suspended high above the ring. Lawler hands Yankem the key to his lock, but Hart rolls Yankem up and hits him in the jaw before throwing the King's lock and key away, allowing the ref to apply the real lock. Nevertheless, he climbs out of the ring over the steel cage wall.

Jerry "The King" Lawler is still in the shark cage high above the ring as the show comes to an end.

He is not angry about The 1-2-3 Kid and Bob "Spark Plug" Holly beating him and Tatanka that night, saying "every dog has his day." It comes to light that he took exception to Lawrence "L.T." Taylor laughing at him due to the fact that L.T. is a retired professional athlete, and took offense to L.T. offering to shake his hand after laughing at him as Bam Bam Bigelow took it as an attack on his dignity. Bam Bam refuses to apologize, saying he doesn't care about his 30-day suspension, and challenges Lawrence "L.T." Taylor to a wrestling match anytime, anywhere.

Backlund then walks away, but Lawler says he only said he would quit the interview if Backlund didn't conduct himself properly. Backlund gets back into the ring ready to put Lawler in it again, but Lawler tricks Backlund by saying that Bret "The Hit Man" Hart is approaching the ring. He isn't, of course, but it distracts Backlund just the same and just enough to allow Lawler his escape.

The Smoking Gunns (Billy and Bart Gunn) retain the WWF Tag Team Championships against The 1-2-3 Kid and Bob "Spark Plug" Holly after The Kid accidentally lands on his shoulder during a somersault senton and seemingly legitimately injures himself. Jarrett said he told Razor Ramon he would take the Intercontinental title from him and even humiliate him, and he did. He is more than welcome to a rematch against Razor. Jarrett then says that something is missing to the "Ain't It Great" tour, however: the WWF Championship. He calls out Diesel, challenging him to a match for the title, and promises he will bring the cameras like he did in Las Vegas and beat Diesel by submission.

This Saturday at 10 AM Eastern/9 AM Central, WWF Mania will be live at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Connecticut for the first ticket sales for WrestleMania 11.

Cornette says Bret has proven that miracles can happen, but tells him to enjoy the WWF Championship as he will not have it for long. We also hear from "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, who says that if Cornette and Yokozuna hate losing, then there is nothing he can do about it. We hear from Paul Bearer, who tells Yokozuna that it is time for his journey into the dark side. He says Yokozuna may be deathly afraid, but The Undertaker will fill his special casket with Yokozuna's body and the deterioration process will soon begin. He says tonight will be their night, and talks about how Bret brought a different WWF championship home and laid it on the dining room table. He then says tonight will be the night that he does that alongside Bret with the tag team titles, and he will get his big break and lift off higher than he has ever gone before. He says that The Quebecers (Jacques and Pierre) are going down and that they will be number one. We then hear from Cornette, who says there are a lot of accusations thrown around and shady deals going around, and says he made no mistake and that Paul Bearer pulled a fast one on him. We then hear from Lex Luger, who will be facing Ludvig Borga in a grudge match tomorrow night, saying that the stipulation that he must war a protective pad on his right forearm does not bother him, as he welcomes the opportunity to wrestle Borga with no excuses. He says defeat is a very bitter pill for Ludvig Borga to swallow, and now they get to do it one more time and see what Borga is really made of, and he will see if Ludvig Borga will admit to losing if he beats him. We then hear from Ludvig Borga, who insists Lex Luger cheated to beat him. This time, it will be different and he will show no mercy to Luger before he finishes him one and for all.

We see an interview from earlier this week where Vince McMahon interviews "The Rocket" Owen Hart. Owen says the friction between himself and Bret "Hit Man" Hart started long before Survivor Series, saying he always did better than Bret but but Bret ended up being the golden child. He says that is fine, but that it is now time to step away from Bret, and he must show everyone that he can make a name for himself on the World Wrestling Federation on his own without using Bret's name. He also says he carried the Hart family honor, and when he collided into Bret, everybody paid attention to him. When he was not invited to celebrate after the match - to Bret's music - he had to tell Bret to stop being so selfish and taking all the recognition. He says he has done a lot in his lifetime, and that it is time for people to pay attention to what he has done. When told that he is Bret's brother, Owen simply states that he is Bret is the brother of "The Rocket" Owen Hart, not the other way around. He then says he has lived in Bret's shadow all his life, and challenges him to a one-on-one fight to settle it once and for all and prove he can beat him.

We then hear from Savage, who says it will be "Crush Crush Night," and that when he gets down with Crush, Crush will think the New York Giants trounced him before the New York Jets slapped him.
