Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for April 16, 2021

Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman and Jey Uso head to the ring to start tonight's show. After Paul Heyman mentions Edge and Daniel Bryan and the enormity of both men's accomplishments, Roman says he called his shot at WrestleMania, and says nobody wants to face him now and put their reputation on the line. Roman says that nobody is on his level, and says that since they have fulfilled their obligations of opening SmackDown. As he, Heyman and Jey Uso are about to leave, Cesaro shows up. Cesaro looks at the WWE Universal Championship on Roman's shoulder, then takes the microphone as Roman, Heyman and Jey Uso leave.



Backstage, Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville are met by Cesaro, who says that he will step up to Roman Reigns. Sonya tells Cesaro she will speak with Roman Reigns and see if he is willing to wrestle tonight.

Rey Mysterio beats Otis with a crucifix pin out of the corner.



Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Paul Heyman, who says that Roman Reigns possesses a large amount of star power to the point that the heavens cried for the beating Edge and Daniel Bryan would get before mocking Cesaro. He says that Cesaro is a joke, not an attraction, then announces that tonight, Cesaro will face Jey Uso in the ring.



Sami Zayn heads to the ring. He says that he was was screwed once again at WrestleMania, which he says was supposed to be his vindication, especially when Logan Paul with him. He says that Logan's mind was poisoned by Kevin Owens, the fans, management and Michael Cole. He says that he was distracted during his match against Kevin Owens by what Logan Paul was potentially thinking, as he could feel that Logan Paul was poisoned, then says he will not be vindicated before calling Kevin Owens out. Kevin Owens shows up.

Kevin Owens beats Sami Zayn by count-out after Sami Zayn runs away from Owens. After the match, Owens goes after Sami, gets him back in the ring, and hits him with a Stunner.

We hear from Apollo Crews. Apollo says he would give Big E a rematch, but he is not here because after the beating given to the big man who is with him, a member of the Nigerian elite guard named Commander Azeez. He says that if anyone goes after the Intercontinental Championship, they will be hammered by "The Nigerian Nail."



The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) head to the ring for Bianca Belair's victory party. They say that Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode will lose the SmackDown tag team titles tonight, and that last weekend, they got a bit of motivation in the form of Bianca Belair winning the SmackDown Women's Championship. Montez Ford then introduces Bianca Belair to the ring. Bianca says she feels like she has been floating since Saturday night, and despite the setbacks and struggled, she never stopped dreaming this moments was possible. She says that everyone has a little bit of "EST" within, and that when you know you are talented, there is no need to be apologize. She then says it not just about her, and thanks Sasha Banks, saying she pushed her harder than anyone else and that she left a little something to remember her buy. She also says this is for all the little girls who saw themselves in her, and that she is just getting started with creating history. Bianca and The Street Profits hug, then says it is time to get the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, as "we only wear gold in this house."



Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews an angry Sasha Banks, who has a welt on her chest from Bianca hitting her with her hair. She says nothing before storming off.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Bayley, who says while that she was so busy saving WrestleMania, Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair were in the main event and that Bianca cried because she did not think she would actually win. She says that this is not the kind of person who should be champion, and that it is time to challenge Bayley and take the SmackDown Women's Championship.

Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode retain the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) after Ziggler makes a sneaky tag to hit Ford with the Zig-Zag.



Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Cesaro, who says that Paul Heyman may be right about his appearance, but he belongs in the ring and he will prove it when he beats Jey Uso tonight.

Natalya beats "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler with a schoolkid pin when Nia Jax's distraction attempt fails and Baszler almost runs into Nia Jax after Natalya breaks out of the Kirifuda Clutch. After the match, Nia Jax grabs Natalya, but Tamina boots Nia Jax in the face.



Backstage, Jey Uso says that Cesaro has disrespected Roman Reigns and crossed him, and tonight, he will find out why he is "Main Event" Jey Uso.

Cesaro beats Jey Uso by disqualification after Seth Rollins attacks him during the Cesaro Swing on Jey Uso. Afterwards, Seth Rollins tells Cesaro that he got lucky and that it is not over until he says so, and that he is the be all and end all and that the sooner Cesaro figures it out, the better it is going to be.



Talking Smack: Bianca Belair has her sets sight on WWE's "Four Horsewomen" (Bayley, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks).
