Generation NXT - NXT recap for August 9, 2017

The show starts with SAnitY (Nikki Cross, Alexander Wolfe, Killian Dain) calling out The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar). They show up with Paul Ellering, but they are suddenly attacked from behind by Eric Young, who has not been seen in quite some time. Rezar is ziptied to a guardrail near the ramp while Akam is the victim of a 4-on-1 attack, but it isn't long before Rezar manages to pull the guardrail off its hinges and crawl to the ring, but he barely makes it to the apron before SAnitY put the boots to him. After all this, SAnitY hold the NXT Tag Team titles up in the air.

Next week: Asuka and Ember Moon sign a contract for the NXT Women's Championship match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III!

Street Profits - Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford - are up next!

We see footage from earlier today of Billie Kay and Peyton Royce's make-up tutorial...which is spoiled by Ruby Riot, whom they then proceed to make fun of.

Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) beat The Metro Brothers (Chris and JC Metro). (Montez Ford has performed in NXT under the name Kenneth Crawford.

We see footage from last week where Hideo Itami attacks Aleister Black outside of Full Sail University. It is announced that both men will face each other at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III.

General Manager William Regal introduces Drew McIntyre and Bobby Roode. Regal introduces Drew McIntyre and Bobby Roode, who will both face each other for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III. When Roode shows up, he shows up with six security guards. Roode says those men are his personal security detail, and they are there to "protect everyone" from Roderick Strong. Roode says they are there to also protect his and McIntyre's match and the money in it. Roode personally welcomes McIntyre back to WWE, and tells him he is indeed entitled as he does not need a second chance. From the moment he walked in, he said he would make a change and become the face of NXT, and he has done all he said he would do. As a result, Roode says this is his NXT, and it is "me," not "we." Roode also tells McIntyre that he didn't need to be chosen (a dig on McIntyre's nickname of "The Chosen One"), as he is simply "the one." McIntyre says Roode has mentioned some good points and truth, but tells Roode that he has made an ass out of himself. He accuses Roode of believing his own hype, and says the harder he beats him, the more it will hurt everything comes crashing down, and says he will become the next NXT Champion. After McIntyre says he will be the next NXT Champion. Suddenly, Roderick Strong shows up. Strong says he respects Roode's recent decision concerning the NXT Championship, and says this is now about Roode disrespecting his family as well as him as a man. Strong calls out Roode as a man, and says this is about a fight. He tells Roode he wants a fight, and asks "Are you man enough?" Regal speaks to Strong, but Roode tells Strong that if he wants a shot at him, he'll have to go through McIntyre next week. Roode says that if Strong wins next week, he'll see him after TakeOver. Regal says he makes the matches around here. McIntyre tells Regal to make the match, saying he has no problem facing Strong. Regal believes this is about the title, but Roode convinces Regal that everybody wants Strong vs. McIntyre, and asks him to make the match for next week. Regal says he's about giving the NXT fans what they want. The match - and the stipulation for Strong/Roode - are both official. At the same time, Roode/McIntyre for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III still stands. Roode celebrates this, having gone from "me" to "we" and back to "me" to make this happen.

Johnny Gargano says he feels great. Even though he is on his own now, he has never been alone. He remembers the reaction DIY got at last year's TakeOver: Brooklyn, and says because of that, there will always be a Johnny Wrestling. Since then, he has never missed a TakeOver event. He then announces that at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, he wants a match.

Danny Burch beats Oney Lorcan in a rematch after pinning Oney Lorcan's shoulders to the mat out of a double leg Boston Crab. After the match, Burch extends his hand, but Lorcan slaps it. Burch is offended, but Lorcan extends his hand. Then they shake. Burch then helps Lorcan out of the ring first.

No Way Jose dances with the crowd in the stands before the next match.

Andrade "Cien" Almas beats No Way Jose thanks to the coaching of Zelina Vega. After the match, Zelina Vega heads to commentary and says Almas deserves the spotlight. She says the biggest spotlight in NXT is TakeOver, and if Johnny Gargano wants an opponent, he's got one.
