Destination X - Impact Wrestling recap for August 17, 2017

We see America's Top Team - including Lashley - and Jeff Jarrett outside of the Impact Zone in footage from earlier today.

Mackenzie Mitchell tries to interview Bruce Prichard in front of his office, but it is noticed by Mackenzie that someone interesting - who we do not see - is in there.

Sienna retains the GFW Unified Knockouts Championship against Gail Kim after Taryn Terrell - who hasn't been seen in almost two years - shows up out of nowhere and hits Gail Kim with a cutter.

Matt Sydal tells Lashley he will know his name before the night is over. He says that he will also earn Lashley's respect before the night is over.

Bruce Prichard shows up, and identifies himself as a creative consultant for GFW. He thanks the fans for their patients, loyalty and lenience for the past year. He then reads a statement which states that Alberto El Patron is no longer the Unified GFW Global Champion, and that El Patron has voluntarily given up the title to focus on his family. To rectify this situation, as head corporate adviser, he can have the title revert back to a former champion, and returns it to its former titleholder: Lashley. Instead of Lashley, Jim Cornette shows up. After a Dairy Queen reference between the two men, Jim Cornette says he's a corporate specialist, and says he has been given a phone call to make sure issues are handled properly. Bruce Prichard apparently doesn't like the fact that Cornette is here for this reason, and says Cornette isn't his boss. Before security takes Cornette away, Cornette calls Prichard a jerk who has abused his power, and that corporate has called him up to take care of him. He then fires Prichard, much to Prichard's chagrin. Prichard says this isn't the last Cornette has seen of him. Cornette takes the Global title from him, then has him ejected. He then says corporate is tried of being screwed around, then says El Patron did not relinquish the title; instead, he was stripped of it. He also says that if you want something here, you'll have to fight for it. Therefore, Lashley will not be awarded the Unified GFW Global Championship after all. Cornette also makes professionalism a high priority, and if anyone steps out of line, they will be dealing with him personally. Cornette then makes official a 20-man gauntlet match for the Global title. Cornette says he does not care who wins; whoever wins the match will have earned it. The Latin-American Xchange then show up.

After the break, Jim Cornette is confronted by The Latin-American Xchange. Konnan is not happy with Cornette being here, and says Low-Ki should be the #1 contender for the Unified GFW Global Championship. Cornette says corporate is making the rules, and that he's only here to enforce them. Konnan warns Cornette not to screw over Low Ki, who says he smells fear from Cornette. Cornette places Low Ki in the gauntlet match at #20. He also warns LAX not to lay a hand on him or they going to jail. Konnan says Boricuas run the pen in Orlando and that going to jail for beating him up would be a reward for them. Cornette tells LAX he gave them good news, and to leave it at that. He makes it clear he is pulling no punches here. He may be a cracker, but he's not a liar, and they will learn that when he says something, they're going to believe it.

Dezmond Xavier beats Taiji Ishimori to win the 2017 Super X Cup Tournament. Dezmond Xavier checks on Taiji Ishimori after the match. Thankfully, he is okay. They both bow to each other in respect. Dezmond Xavier says this is a moment is everyone will remember as he takes the trophy.

Karen Jarrett and Bruce Prichard argue loudly backstage as Prichard is ejected from the building. Prichard asks Karen if she is happy, and Karen tells Prichard he will never work in GFW again.

Joseph Park tells Grado it is time to buck up. Next week, Grado is saying goodbye...

Sonjay Dutt retains the GFW X Division Championship against Trevor Lee in a Ladder Match. During the match, Caleb Konley tries to stop Sonjay from getting the title to help Trevor Lee to the title, but Petey Williams - who has not been seen in a few years - shows up and hits Konley with the Canadian Destroyer to help Sonjay. Trevor Lee tries to get to the title one more time, but Sonjay Dutt manages to knock him off the ladder to retain the X Division title.

Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Lashley, who says that he is going to destroy Matt Sydal, whom he calls a loser who is keeping him from what is rightfully his: the Unified GFW Global Championship.

oVe (Jake and Dave Crist) beat Jason Cade and Zachary Wenst in their GFW debut.

Ethan Carter III and Moose find out from Jim Cornette they are in next week's gauntlet match. Eli Drake then introduces himself to Cornette along with Chris Adonis, and says he is the unrecognized #1 guy. They're in the gauntlet match, too, and since Eli Drake says he's #1, he's in the gauntlet as the first guy in. Cornette then tells Eli Drake that when the gauntlet is over, they'll need dental records to identify him.

Matt Sydal beats Lashley after kicking a steel chair into his face and getting a schoolboy pin in after dodging a Spear into the corner. As per pre-match stipulation, Sydal now gets a shot at the title of his choice. After the match, a member of America's Top Team in the front row near the aisle tries to choke out referee Brian Hebner, and Lashley has to calm the guy down.

John Hennigan, known the world over as John Morrison and Johnny Mundo among other names, is coming to GFW under the name Johnny Impact.
