Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for March 6, 2026

Randy Orton heads to the ring to start tonight's show. Orton welcomes everyone to tonight's show and talks about how he has performed in twenty WrestleMania yet has only main evented two of them, and that regardless of one's accolades, there is no guarantee that one will get to WrestleMania, let alone the main event. He can now say that he is going back to the main event of WrestleMania, and while he is not wired to say that he is the best, he lets his peers do the talking, including men he grew up with like Ric Flair, The Undertaker and Harley Race. Orton says that he looks at the locker room that he is part of now and that is he proud that he is still viewed as one of the best, and says that he has earned this. He says that he does not know who his opponent will be, but he and everyone will know in a few hours, and he is looking forward to the two possibilities of Cody Rhodes or Drew McIntyre. Orton then says he is entering WrestleMania with a chip on his shoulder and leaving with a championship around his waist. As Orton states that he plans to win with the RKO, Trick Williams heads to the ring, saying he has voices in his head telling him he has a bone to pick with Orton, as he should be in the main event of WrestleMania with the title shot. He also mentions Orton going up to his pod in the Elimination Chamber and saying that Trick is not 6'5". As Trick continues to speak, Orton messes with Trick before hitting him with an RKO.

In backstage footage from earlier today, General Manager Nick Aldis tells Carmelo Hayes that he is doing a good job with the open challenge for the United States Championship, and says that one open challenge has caught his eye. Carmelo, not wanting to know who his next opponent is right away, says that he will see this opponent in the ring.

Carmelo Hayes' open challenge is answered by El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr.

Carmelo Hayes retains the WWE United States Championship against El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. after avoiding a top rope moonsault.

Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviews Ilja Dragunov. Dragunov says he is not the warrior that his mother wants him to be and continues to lose, and that he will wait to challenge Carmelo Hayes until he is that warrior again. The Miz shows up and says Dragunov should be seizing every opportunity, and Kit Wilson shows up to question Dragunov's masculinity. Dragunov takes this as a challenge from both men.

Backstage, Damian Priest and General Manager Nick Aldis are met by R-Truth, who says that the two of them are in tonight's Tag Team Turmoil match. Priest, still slightly bewildered, is up to the task. Priest and R-Truth, then Drew McIntyre shows up and tells Aldis to cancel his match with Cody, but Adlis tells McIntyre that he went back on his word that he would let things happen, and that he went back on his. He tells McIntyre to defend the title tonight or forfeit it. McIntyre says the only way Cody will win the WWE Championship is to take it from his cold, dead hands.

The Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax and Lash Legend) head to the ring for their championship celebration. Nia Jax tells the fans to take it all in and get a good lock at two "six-foot thoroughbred stallions," as they now have the women's tag team division on lock. She then says they are generous champs, and says that any and all challengers are welcome. She then says it will not make a difference, and Lash Legend says that if anyone runs up, they will get done up, and calls this the locker room's first, last and only warning that they are here and they are not going anywhere. The two of them have a toast, then pyrotechnics goes off on the stage before Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss show up. Alexa says that Lash Legend has found a coattail to ride to the top, then says she and Charlotte only lost the titles because The Irresistible Forces interfered in their matches. Charlotte then says that if The Irresistible Forces, they are looking at the next ones in. Giulia and Kiana James show up, and Kiana reminds everyone that she beat Charlotte and Nia in a Triple Threat Match and pinned Alexa in the Elimination Chamber. Kiana says that they are going to WrestleMania one way or another, and Giulia stats that they are leaving with the women's tag titles before Kiana tells Charlotte and Alexa to step aside. General Manager Nick Aldis shows up and makes a match between the team of Giulia and Kiana and the team of Charlotte and Alexa, which happens right now.

Fraxiom eliminates The Motor City Machine Guns after Axiom pins Sabin near the ropes, and while Shelley puts Sabin's foot on the ropes, the referee does not see it. The Wyatt Sicks are eliminated after Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa show up and pull Gacy out of the ring and distract Lumis, allowing Los Garza to eliminate them. After the elimination, Gacy and Lumis brawl with Tama and Loa on the way to the back.

Backstage, Randy Orton is met by Sami Zayn. Sami says he is happy for Orton, then asks Orton how he can speak highly of Cody and yet drop him where he stands in the same breath. Orton says that one needs to be selfish in this business, and when Sami asks Orton if that makes him a bad person, Orton says that has made him a fourteen-time World Champion. Orton then tells Sami that he believes in him that he will become World Champion one day and that he just needs to listen to the voices, then leaves. Aleister Black and Zelina Vega show up and tell Sami that it is the nature of the beast.

Rhea Ripley heads to the ring. Rhea, knowing that Jade Cargill has a lot to say to her, dares Jade to come to the ring and say it to her face. Cargill shows up and heads to the ring, shakes Rhea's hand, and says that she respects Rhea and her accomplishments, how the people love her, how Rhea earned her way to a championship match against her and how she has gotten into the shape she has gotten herself in. She then says she is not impressed, as she is bigger, more powerful and more worthy of the WWE Championship than Rhea, then says she will beat the hell out of her and that there is nothing she can do about it.Rhea then offers her hand for another handshake, which Jade gives to her before Rhea respects Cargill's honesty, and admits that while she does not impress Cargill physically, Cargill does for her, but she will not go down and stay down after Cargill's best shot. She then says that if she hits Cargill with hers, there is no way Cargill is getting back up, as Cargill's body is built for show while hers is built for fighting. She says that Cargill is more aesthetically pleasing while she thrives and survives in the business. Rhea says Cargill can flex all she wants, because she will fight and she will take the WWE Championship from her with force, and there is nothing Cargill can do about it.

Backstage, Alex Shelley is speaking with Candice LeRae regarding a nearby planking Johnny Gargano. Chris Sabin is wondering what is going on, then says they need to talk after Shelley said he tried to save the match. Sabin and Shelley leave, then Candice tells Gargano to get up and "do it himself." Gargano shows up and heads to the ring.

We hear from Bo Dallas. He tells Solo Sikoa that he keeps putting his family members in compromising positions without understanding the weight of consequences, then says he has something that does not belong to him and that he will not rest until he takes it back. He says that Solo's family will constantly look over their shoulders and realize there is nothing left to do but run.

Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae are in the ring. He says that he is one of the best wrestlers in the world and that he is tired of pretending that he is not, then says that he and everyone else needs to remember who he is, and that he must be "Johnny Wrestling" again. Gargano then issues an open challenge to anyone in the back, and the open challenge is answered by Oba Femi.

Nick Aldis notices The Miz and has him mentor Danhausen. Danhausen hopes Miz will make him a champion and a TV star, and when Miz refuses to mentor him, Danhausen curses him, then tells him to remember what happened to "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio earlier this week.

"The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes beats Drew McIntyre to win the Undisputed WWE Championship for a third time. During the match, referee Charles Robinson is dragged into a Cody Cutter by McIntyre. Cody hits the Cross Rhodes, then calls for another ref. Referee Dan Engler shows up, then McIntyre hits the Claymore only for Cody to kick out at one. Engler is eventually hit with a Glasgow Kiss by McIntyre, who then grabs a chair from the timekeeper's area to use as a weapon only for Jacob Fatu to show up and take it away from him. Robinson comes back to just in time for Cody to score a near-fall on a schoolkid pin. McIntyre hits a Future Shock DDT, but misses big on the Claymore when Cody ducks it. Cody hits a Super Cody Cutter followed by the Cross Rhodes for the pin, the win, the title and the WrestleMania main event.

Tonight's guest is KC Navarro after Francis teases bringing out Kevin Owens. Navarro admits he is still hurting from last week, and as Francis states that he will put the boots to Steve Maclin, Maclin shows up and tells Navarro to shut up, as he and Francis talk too much and do not fight enough. Maclin then picks a fight with Francis, and Francis teases fighting Maclin before saying his shoes are worth more than his life and that he will give him thirty minutes. Maclin says he will see Francis in the ring.

Young says The Northern Armory (Young, Judas Icarus, Travis Williams) is watching his back and doing this for him, but Maclin says that while he trusts Eric, he does not trust in The Northern Armory. Eric says he knows what is best for Maclin better than even Maclin does, and tells Maclin to let the truth guide him. Maclin then runs into Frankie Kazarian, who then laughs at Maclin's predicament. Maclin tells Kazarian not to do this, but Kazarian admits he finds enjoyment in this before Maclin leaves.

Moose summons security to surround the middle of the ring before he enters the ring, and tells Oba Femi that the security is for his protection. Oba finds this amusing, then says he had heard rumblings about Moose in the past year as well as a potential match between them, and as he became WWE NXT Champion, the rumblings became a loud demand. He admits he likes the idea of the match, but asks Moose why he is doing this now. Moose says he is a prize fighter and that he always fights for the biggest prize in the game. He says that the business has taught him patience and that he knew Oba Femi would be NXT Champion, and when he did, he picked his spot and crossed the line. Oba says Moose has accomplished a lot, but Moose has yet to beat him, and that he will be the one to walk out of NXT Roadblock as NXT Champion. Moose says he may have been the face of the franchise for the last ten years, but he will be face of Oba's franchise and there is nothing Oba can do about it. Oba says that is Moose is really the face of the franchise, then he can call off The System. JDC offers a spot in The System to the first member of security to jump Oba Femi, and all of security rushes at Oba only to be quickly overpowered. She says that Cora Jade thinks she is stepping into her world or into a match at Sacrifice, but she is stepping into a fight and that she will not be walking out. Cora Jade shows up and says Masha talks a big game but knows her days are numbered, as the Knockouts World Championship is coming home with her and that Masha is just "the most overhyped champion" at the end of the day. She says Masha's weaknesses will be exposed when she makes history and wins the title, but Masha tells Cora that she will get exposed for not being able to hand with a real fighter and she will find out why she is the most ruthless Knockouts World Champion in history. Suddenly, Masha is attacked from behind by Tessa Blanchard, and Cora Jade joins in. Lei Ying Lee soon shows up and takes out both Cora and Tessa, then checks on Masha.

Backstage, Mustafa Ali gets his coffee from Tasha Steelz, who tells him that Santana's test came back negative and that Santana passed his drug test. He then finds out that his coffee is really bitter, unbeknownst to Tasha Steelz (and it is implied that Mustafa may have tasted Santana's urine).

He says Keith has yet to win in a match that matters despite his accomplishments, and while he knows the potential and personality to be a champion, Big Bill has lot big matches as of late. He says opportunites do not come around often and that this could be the last chance for them to show that they are main event players, and tells them to take advantage of those opportunities before they dry up and go away. Those Dynamite Kids - Dynamite recap for March 6, 2024

Tony Schiavone interviews Swerve Strickland in the ring to start tonight's show. When asked what is next for him, he asks what his house is without the keys, especially when he came up short at Revolution, and brings back his vow that he would give his all and become AEW World Champion when he signed his AEW contract. Swerve thinks is karma for some of his earlier actions in AEW and feels that he has some doubt running through his head that he should settle for being "a role player," and the fans chant "You deserve it!" He says that something about Sunday felt different and it felt like people were truly rooting for him for the first time and wanted him to win and make history, even coming in from his home state of Washington to see it happen. Swerve says that for this, he will not let the fans down. He says nothing changes from this point on, and warns Samoa Joe that he is coming for him. Suddenly, Samoa Joe shows up and Swerve is "talking funny" for somebody who just got beat down and is making promises to the fans he will never keep. Joe tells Swerve that his house exists in his world, and says that instead of disappointing people about how he is almost a champion, he decided to show up and let the fans gaze upon an actual world champion. As Joe spins around, Swerve warns Joe not to turn his back on him and reminds him that he has yet to beat him, then dares Joe to put the world title on the line tonight before deciding they might as well do this right now. Suddenly, Undisputed Kingdom (Adam Cole, Matt Taven, Mike Bennett, Roderick Strong, Wardlow) shows up, and Adam Cole says the only story worth talking about after Revolution is them now that Roderick Strong is International Champion and Taven and Bennett are still ROH World Tag Team Champions. Adam Cole then says Wardlow will challenge for and win the AEW World Championship and put it in its rightful place. Swerve laughs and reminds Adam Cole lost at every opportunity he had at the world title and laughs at his "Dr. Claw" management role before saying that if he needs more clients, he has Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D.'s number. Cole then proposes that Undisputed Kingdom might as well fight Joe and Swerve. Swerve is for it, but Cole says Swerve does not make the rules. Suddenly, Tony Schavione gets word from Tony Khan that the match is official and if happening now.

Killswitch beats "Daddy Magic" Matt Menard. After the match, Killswitch goes for a choke slam, but Daniel Garcia runs into the right and fights him. "The Prodigy" Nick Wayne gets in the ring to fight Garcia, and that allows Killswitch to down Garcia with a big boot so that Wayne can hit Wayne's World. As The Patriachy (Christian Cage, Killswitch, "The Prodigy" Nick Wayne, Mother Wayne) celebrates on the ramp, Adam Copeland suddenly shows up from behind and chokes Nick Wayne out. Mother Wayne goes for a low blow, but Copeland catches it and chases Christian Cage through the crowd. Christian Cage runs out of the building, steals an SUV, and drives off. Copeland says this has to end where it started, and in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on March 20th, they will face off for the TNT Championship in an "I Quit" Match.

Backstage, Renee Paquette interviews Kyle O'Reilly. O'Reilly says that he did not think he would ever wrestle again, and to be cleared and get a second chance at what he's been good at, he has been grateful. He says he has nothing but love for Undisputed Kingdom (Adam Cole, Matt Taven, Mike Bennett, Roderick Strong, Wardlow), but he has fallen so far down the mountain he has no idea what path to take, and that he has to do things on his own.

Tony Schiavone interviews The Young Bucks (Nicholas and Matthew Jackson) in the ring. Nicholas yanks the microphone from Tony Schiavone's microphone and boots him out of the ring as soon as he brings up their loss as Revolution before declaring that Sting and Darby Allin cheated. After declaring that they are still EVPs and that they have ended Sting's career, Nicholas states they will be in the upcoming tag team tournament to take back the tag team titles. Matthew then says that there is some housecleaning to be done, and to show that there is no favoritism in the locker room, they have no choice but to suspend "Hangman" Adam Page from The Elite indefinitely without pay for his actions at Revolution. Matthew also brings up Kenny Omega, saying that Omega has failed to make his dates for no reason and that they have no choice but to fire him. As Matthew is about to make another announcement, Eddie Kingston shows up and dares The Young Bucks to fire him for talking crap about him. This soon leads to The Young Bucks ganging up on Eddie and attacking him. Before they can hit Eddie with the EVP-Trigger, Kazuchika Okada shows up, but instead of helping Eddie, he hits him with the Rainmaker before being announced as the newest member of The Elite.

Upon finding out that she will face Riho next week, she tells Stokely to do things her way before saying she can beat Riho and that she has her sights set on Juila Hart and the TBS Championship.

Tony Schavione interviews Darby Allin in the ring. When asked about what is next for him, Darby talks about how things have changed for him in five years and that he has given Sting the closer to his career that he deserves. He says that he has "Switchblade" Jay White at Big Business before going to climb Mount Everest later this month, and thanks the fans and AEW for giving him this dream in case he does not come back alive. He says that if next week is his last match, so be it, then congratulates the next team to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships, as he will never be able to replace Sting. Suddenly, Bullet Club Gold shows up. Jay White says he did not want to interrupt anything, but he says Darby Allin is so weird and elusive that he wanted to congratulate him for winning on Sunday and proving he would sacrifice himself to ensure Sting retired a champion while he still could. He also calls Darby Allin crashing through the glass and leaving Sting to fight by himself "stupid" and that he does not care much about the talk about their match, and that Darby is now "a lost puppy" without Sting. He says this match does not need to happen much like how Darby never had to jump off the ladder into a pane of glass and that nobody would think any less of Darby after all he has been through. Jay White then warns Darby that if he gets in the ring with him, he will encounter more than a few scratches, and instead of a match, they and "Darby Scissorhands" can hang out together backstage. Darby says that Jay White has done so much in Japan only to come to All Elite Wrestling to play with cardboard cutouts, and tells him that if he is so confident in his abilities, he had better come to the ring alone. Darby holds Jay White at bay with Sting's baseball bat, then tells him he will see him at Big Business.

We hear from Julia Hart and Skye Blue, who says that the worst feeling is being forgotten and that Willow Nightingale has forgotten who she is. She says she will hold an open house for anyone who needs reminding who the TBS Champion is.

He says that he has walked through the fire and fears no evil, and that he will face The House of Black himself. Jay Lethal shows up and says it is time to man up and help his friend of twenty years. Mark warns him not to bring Jeff Jarrett, but Jay says he will not be there and that Mark only has to trust him.

Don Callis guests on commentary for the next match.

Miz then complains about the fans singing Rollins' theme, then Rollins pushes Miz's microphone down to silence Miz, then Logan Paul has to tell the crowd to shut up. This does nothing to shut up the fans. It is not until Rollins addresses the crowd that the crowd is silent, then Rollins addresses Logan. Rollins mentions their history and the fact that they have yet to be formally introduced, then introduces himself to Logan. Logan says he knows who Rollins are as the crowd sings Rollins' theme again, then calls him "the clown [he] dumped at Royal Rumble and the guy [he] stomped at Elimination Chamber" and says he is better at his job than Rollins. He says that he works smarter and not harder, and that he is on his way in while Rollins is on the way out, and if he were Rollins, he would not like him either. Miz tells Rollins he has a few good points as the crowd chants "Fuck You Logan." Rollins agrees with Miz, but says that Logan is missing the point that none of this is reason why nobody likes him, and it is because he is "the scum of the earth" and a coward, a troll, a fraud, and human dumpster fire who is not wanted in WWE. He then says the fans came here not to see them mince words, but to see him get his pound of flesh, then declares the time to talk is over and that it is time to fight. Miz stops Rollins before things can get physical, but Logan tells Miz not to speak for him and that if he is going to fight Rollins, he will do it. He then says he is not going to do it because he does not fight for free, especially in Boston, Massachusetts, for he is a premium act, and that he will do it only if the event and money is bigger and had some star power. Miz reminds Logan that he is the host of WrestleMania and that they can make their match happen at WrestleMania. Rollins asks what they are waiting for as he grabs Miz and throws him out of the ring, then brawls with Logan. John Cena heads to the ring. Before Cena can say much of anything, Austin Theory shows up and heads to the ring. Theory says that, like the fans, he has all the respect in the world for Cena, and that he only became a WWE Superstar because of Cena, and that Cena inspired him at a young age. He then has a gift for Cena from the bottom of his heart that is bigger than any movie role that Cena will ever have: a match with him at WrestleMania. Cena says no, saying he is not interested in his gift because he has not earned the right to give it. He says that he has been watching and listening to Theory, and says nobody cares about him because they don't believe him, and nobody believes him because Theory is not believing himself, as he looks generic and has no heart. Cena says he has walked in Theory's shoes and that he is Theory's "Ghost of Christmas Future," and that Theory is in his "Ruthless Aggression" phase, and that Ruthless Aggression almost got him fired because he did not believe in himself. He says that Theory has no heart and no soul, then says that the fans are here out of respect and that while they believe, they do not believe in Theory as he is just "a pair of trunks away from being a jabroni." Cena then admits that Theory has the greatest name in professional wrestling right now, then says he is nothing but a theory, and in theory, Theory should be great and everything a WWE executive looks for and who everyone comes to the show for. He then says no one cares and that Theory is wasting everyone's time, then gives Theory a gift: the ability to walk out of the ring in one piece if Theory shuts up, turns around and walks away. Theory tells Cena he is not going anywhere just like the bald spot on Cena's head, but Cena reveals the bald spot on his head that is combed over. Theory then takes Cena's refusal of a match as giving up and disrespect towards the fans. Theory asks where the hustle, loyalty and respect is, then realizes that the fans are right when you don't want to meet your hero, because all one's hero does is disappoint. Cena says he would rather be bald than have fake crowd noise piped into his matches, then tells Theory he is a dumb son of a bitch and warns him that he is saving his hide, for Theory loses everything whether he wins or loses. He says the fans will eat Theory alive when Theory has to explain himself the Monday after because the fans know he is full of crap, then Cena says he has no choice because he has brought the fans into it. Cena thanks the fans and his family, then asks the fans if they want to see him and Theory square off at WrestleMania. The fans make it known they want to see it, then says that while he does not care abut Theory, he will not give up on the fans. He then tells Theory that he has made the biggest mistake of his career and that their match will be for the United States Championship, then wishes him luck as everyone knows he does not have it in his brain, heart or his nuts before telling him to work on his nuts. He then tells Theory that he is not ready for the WrestleMania stage, then says the fans deserve to see somebody who is before introducing "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes. Cody shows up, then shakes hands and hugs Cena.

Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviews Sami Zayn, who says that Kevin Owens was right about things before proclaiming that everything has changed now. Lita thanks Becky, then says they have an equalizer that they have yet to thank. Trish Stratus then shows up and heads to the ring. Trish tells Lita she will always have his back, and to see her Lita and Becky win tag team gold, she would not have missed it for the world. As she says that she would have gotten physical if Bayley did not shut up, Damage CTRL shows up. Bayley says the threesome love to show up when it is convenient for them and add to their trophy case at their expense, and that she can see right through them and see they are selfish and why Damage CTRL is in the ring right now. She also says Damage CTRL will be the reason why they neve come back. Trish says Bayley is good at talking, but not listening, and reminds her that she can get out of retirement quickly and considers doing that to shut Bayley up. She then challenges Damage CTRL to a match against the three of them at WrestleMania. Bayley accepts, and Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky question Bayley at first before going for a cheap shot and getting tossed out of the ring. Bayley soon gets surrounded, and when she goes for a cheap shot at Becky, Becky, Trish and Lita take shots at Bayley until Dakota and Iyo get her out of the ring.

Sami Zayn beats Jimmy Uso with a roll-up after Jey Uso shows up and stands on the announce table. After the match, Jimmy and Jey meet in the ring. Jey is reluctant, however, and he soon walks past Jimmy before leaving the ring, standing next to Sami and telling Sami "I trust you" befor ehugging him. Jimmy is down on one knee in the middle of the ring as Jey and Sami raise one finger up, and Sami tells Jimmy that it is not too late. Suddenly, Jey superkicks Sami and throws him into the ring where he and Jimmy attack him.
