Collision Course - Collision recap for July 29, 2023

We hear from Darby Allin, MJF, Adam Cole and FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) before tonight's show.

Andrade el Idolo beats Buddy Matthews in a ladder match to reclaim his mask after also having to fend off being slapped and handcuffed to the ring post by Julia Hart.

Backstage, Tony Schiavone interviews Miro when Aaron Solo suddenly hits Miro with a chair. Aaron Solo and Miro brawl, and Miro quickly turns the tables on Aaron Solo.

Darby Allin's opponent for tonight is revealed to be Minoru Suzuki.

Darby Allin beats Minoru Suzuki after rolling backwards after Suzuki catches him out of a Coffin Drop for a rear naked choke. After the match, Luchasaurus and Christian Cage show up on the video screen. Christian says Darby is ready for a match for the TNT Championship, but says he has a distraction in AR Fox and that he cannot be distracted, especially when the TNT title is more prestigious than ever. He then says that Darby is no longer qualified to be TNT Champion and that he will send him back to the Hot Topic at the mall before he ever touches the title again.

We see a video package for Hikaru Shida vs. Toni Storm for the AEW Women's World Championship next week at Dynamite 200.

Samoa Joe beats Gravity.

Tony Schiavone interviews CM Punk in the ring. Punk says there has been a lot going on in AEW, especially on Collision, that nobody wants to meet head-on. While he does not know if he will be wrestling at All In in Wembley Stadium in London, he does know that "Absolute" Ricky Starks has beaten him twice. He admits that he has been disappointed by how Ricky Starks has beaten him out of late and has confused his kindness for weakness even after having to cheat to beat him twice, then says that he has been left holding the bag. He then says that the truth does not care if one is right or wrong and that he is the champion as he pulls an AEW World Championship belt out of his bag and states that he has never been beaten for the belt that still has his blood on it from last September. Punk then spray paints a big black X on the center plate of the championship belt, stating the X has defined him and the foundation he has built his career on since 1997, then says he is straight edge and "better than you." He says that the belt is staying with him and on Collision, then states that he is "the real World's Champion." Ricky Starks then shows up, demands an entrance, then comes out to his entrance theme and says that while this was a great story Punk told, he is low on gold right now and that Punk would have beaten him the same way he beat him. He then says that he wants Punk's World Championship after having beaten him twice and becoming the face of Collision, for whatever Punk has is his. Punk asks Ricky if he is the face of Collision or the face of cheating, but Ricky says Stevie Wonder could be the referee and he would still beat him. Punk then says it sounds like Ricky Starks wants a title shot, which leads to "Take his title!" and "CM Punk!" chants, then says that if he were to wrestle Ricky again, he will need some extra eyes around here. Ricky says it does not care who Punk brings, because if he beat Punk once, he can do it twice. Punk says he anticipated this and made some phone calls, and that there will be a special guest referee who is someone from his past. Punk then asks if Ricky wants a shot at his title, to which Ricky states that he absolutely wants it. Both men shake hands, then Punk has Tony Schiavone tell Ricky that the special guest referee is Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat.

We see a video package chronicling the events leading to MJF and Adam Cole vs. FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) for the AEW World Tag Team Championships tonight.

Bullet Club Gold (Austin Gunn, Colten Gunn, "Rock Hard" Juice Robinson) beat Action Andretti, Darius Martin and El Hijo del Vikingo in a trios match.

Mercedes Martinez beats Kiera Hogan with the Brass City Sleeper, then Kris Statlander runs into the ring and chases Mercedes out of the ring briefly. As Kris checks on Kiera Hogan, Mercedes gets back in and hits Kris with the TBS Championship. Willow Nightingale then gets in the ring and chases Mercedes out.

FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) retains the AEW World Tag Team Championships against MJF and Adam Cole after MJF sacrifices himself to keep Cole from being hit by the Shatter Machine and Dax Harwood rolls MJF up for the win. After the match, MJF blames himself for the loss, and after Adam Cole hands MJF the AEW World Championship, MJF tries to hit Adam Cole from behind with the AEW World Championship. Cole sees it coming, and MJF tosses the title away.
