Generation NXT - NXT recap for July 25, 2023

Rhea Ripley and "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio head to the ring to start tonight's show. Rhea boasts about Dominik winning the NXT North American Championship last week, and Dominik says he has made the Mysterio name relevant. The crowd chants "Cut the mullet!" at Dominik, and as Rhea tells Lyra Valkyria that it is courageous to step in the ring and face her, Wes Lee shows up and says he hates the North American title in Dominik's hands. He says that for 269 days, the title stood for hard work and opportunity and made him into a better athlete, as he put his heart and soul into the title, and he demands a rematch. Rhea states that NXT needs a new North American Champion, and Wes Lee agrees that NXT needs a North American Champion tonight. Mustafa Ali shows up and says he has love and respect for Wes Lee, but none for Dominik. He says that Dominik stole the North American Championship from him like he steals both of his father's signature moves before stating that Wes lee dropped the ball last week. Wes Lee stops Mustafa and says he is angry that Dominik cut in line and Wes Lee let him. Wes Lee smacks the microphone out of Mustafa's hand, and Dominik says he does not care who he faces at The Great American Bash because Rhea says he can beat both of them. Dom then shoves Mustafa out of his way, and Mustafa tries to strike him only to hit Wes Lee. Wes Lee and Mustafa Ali brawl while Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio laugh.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Tony D'Angelo and Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo. D'Angelo says he loved the reception for his return, and Stacks looks forward to winning the NXT Tag Team Championships. Suddenly, Bronco Nima and Lucien Price show up and says they have never heard their names on the street and that they will be hearing their names a lot, and Stacks and D'Angelo take this as a challenge for a match for tonight.

We see backstage footage from last night's Raw where Lyra Valkyria challenges Rhea Ripley to a match on NXT.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Lyra Valkyria, who says she challenged Rhea Ripley to see where she stands in NXT, and Rhea has been watching her. She says she will not stand in the shadows, and that tonight is all about her and showing who she is.

Carmelo Hayes, Trick Williams and Ilja Dragunov beat Schism (Joe Gacy, Rip Fowler, Jagger Reid) in a six-man tag match after two masked Schism followers pull Fowler and Reid off the apron and Carmelo makes the blind tag to hit Nothing But Net on Gacy for the win. During the match, Dragunov goes for a running headbutt on Gacy, but ends up hitting Trick Williams. After the match, Trick is angry at Dragunov.

We hear from Tiffany Stratton, who says that when a superstar is born, nobody sleeps on it. She says that nobody needs to learn classes for it, and that she is "it." She says she is the epitome of what a women's champion is as she puts in the work more and looks better than everyone else, and she says that she did not reach her first premium live event to have everything taken away from her by Thea Hail. Tiffany says Thea is a living energy drink who can run from here to Texas. She says that she did not tap out at Gold Rush and that the referee did not happen, and that she has given Thea Hail the rematch she and the fans wanted out of the goodness of her heart. Tiffany then says Thea attacking her to making their match a submission match "despicable," then says that after The Great American Bash, the universe will still revolve around her and she will still be NXT Women's Champion.

Von Wagner quickly beats Javier Bernal. After the match, Von Wagner powerbombs Javier Bernal through the announce table, but he is soon hit with a Spear from out of nowhere by Bron Breakker. Bron then grabs a chair from underneath the ring and hits Von Wagner with it, and referees swarm around Bron Breakker and take the chair away before Bron can do any more damage.

Backstage, Ilja Dragunov is met by Carmelo Hayes. Trick Williams confronts Dragunov for attacking him earlier, and Dragunov tells Trick to come at him like a man before leaving. Carmelo tells Trick they have to leave by example, but Trick says it is all about him and he is going to call him out.

Gable Steveson heads to the ring. Steveson thanks everyone in NXT, and re-introduces himself and his amateur wrestling accomplishments to those who may not know who he is, and says he could become a two-time Olympic gold medalist or go back to college and become a three-time NCAA champion. He also says that he could make his decision right now, but before he does, Baron Corbin shows up and tells Gable to be careful what he says next, as it could determine his entire future. Corbin advises him to go back to back to either college or the Olympics. He wants Gable not to come to NXT, for if he does, he will do something he has never done before: fail. He says that the ropes will show him who he is, then talks about how he toed the company line for eight years before he stopped caring. Corbin says Gable is swimming with sharks and that he is a great white who is hungry for blood. Gable tells Corbin he made his decision much easier, and challenges Corbin to his first-ever match at The Great American Match before slamming him around the ring. Corbin is stopped by security when he tries to get back into the ring.

Dana Brooke beats Cora Jade in a Kendo stick match.

Backstage, Carmelo Hayes apologizes about the inadvertent headbutt to Trick to Dragunov. Dragunov tells Carmelo that if Trick wants to call him out and stick to his challenge, he will be glad to break him tonight before he breaks Carmelo on Sunday.

We see Drew Gulak and Charlie Dempsey train with - and chew out - Myles Borne for not being made for toughness. Damon Kemp shows up and says he is what they are looking for, and proposes a partnership. Dempsey says they are willing to see what he has got.

Scrypts guests on commentary for the next match.

Tony D'Angelo and Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo beat Bronco Nima and Lucien Price. During the match, Scrypts is attacked by Axiom at the announce table. After the match, Gallus (Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, Wolfgang) appears on the TitanTron, and Joe Coffey tells D'Angelo not to get too comfortable as everything can change in blink of an eye, as Gallus is always on top when it comes to the NXT tag team titles.

We hear from Dijak, who thinks that Eddy Thorpe is walking around with his chest puffed out as he tells him that one win means nothing and does not equal title competition that he is also seeking and warns him that he will tear him apart.

All-American and MMA fighter Zion Clark is seen in the crowd.

We see footage of Roxanne Perez and Blair Davenport brawling in a convenience store. Roxanne tells Blair that this is a taste of the Roxanne Perez that she will get before leaving the convenience store.

It's time for Supernova Sessions, which is hosted by the rest of Meta-Four (Oro Mensah, Lash Legend, Jakara Jackson) as Noam Dar sits dejected on his wheelchair as he is made the host of tonight's edition of the show. Meta-Four then show Noam Dar the Heritage Cup, and Naom Dar finally rises out of his funk as Meta-Four declares Noam Dar to be the undisputed Heritage Cup Champion. Nathan Frazer and Dragno Lee show up, with Frazer holding the Heritage Cup. Noam Dar says he never lost the Heritage Cup, but Frazer calls Noam "a massive fraud" while Noam calls Frazer's cup "counterfeit." Frazer challenges Noam Dar, now that Noam is no longer injured, then Oro Mensah mentions that there are four of them against just Frazer and Dragon Lee. Dragon Lee say they did not come alone, and Valentina Feroz and Yulisa Leon attack Lash and Jakara from behind. Dragon Lee and Nathan Frazer then take down Oro Mensah and Noam Dar, and stand tall with Valentina and Yulisa in the ring.

At Chase University, Andre Chase and Duke Hudson get Thea Hail all fired up and training for her match with Tiffany Stratton as Andre and Duke talk about their roles in Thea's road to a championship rematch.

In backstage footage from last week, Humberto Carrillo and Angel Garza argue, and Humberto asks them if they are chasing women or chasing glory before saying that he cannot do this anymore and leaving. Garza is furious.

Rhea Ripley beats Lyra Valkyria. After the match, Rhea Ripley tells Lyra Valkyrie to prove how tough she is and beat Jacy Jayne.

Trick Williams heads to the ring and says that Carmelo Hayes will put Dragunov's jersey in the rafters Sunday before calling Dragunov out so he can challenge them tonight. Dragunov shows up, and this starts a brawl. Dragonuv gets the upper hand, but Trick grabs him by the ankle, and Dragunov responds with a diving forearm to the jaw before followed by a running diving forearm from the corner. Dragunov gets Trick in the corner and goes for the Torpedo Moscow, but Carmelo Hayes gets in the ring and takes the bullet for Trick Williams. Dragunov tells Carmelo he is a man of honor and says loyalty is very rare nowadays, then tells him to keep his friendship with Trick, for it will be all that he has left after he takes his NXT Championship.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
