Generation NXT - NXT LIVE recap for July 11, 2023

The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio) head to the ring to start tonight's show. Finn Balor says that NXT is the house that he built and that he is back to lay down some house rules with The Judgment Day. Damian Priest says Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams called them out to NXT to get a piece of them, but they are getting The Judgment Day that runs WWE and NXT, as they are "the murderer's row of WWE." Dominik tries to speak only to get booed, then Carmelo and Trick show up. Rhea takes offense to Dominik being interrupted, then Carmelo is about to say that Dominik is called "Dirty Dom" because of all the times that Dominik dropped the soap before Trick stops him. Carmelo then says that he appreciates The Judgment Day showing up and that it is all about Finn Balor, who is part of NXT Mount Rushmore, then says that NXT now has the "Trick and 'Melo" influence. He says that while Finn got the better of him on Raw, he is now in his arena and that the ball is in his court. Rhea laughs and says this was never about Trick and Carmelo, but Carmelo says he and Trick run things around here. Damian Priest says that is fair, but that is because he does not have The Judgment Day starting back at him every Tuesday night and he never misses a bullseye. Carmelo says Priest is cashing checks his mouth cannot cash, and Carmelo challenges The Judgment Day to a match before Finn Balor interrupts him to tell him that if he is to come at the prince, he had better not miss. Carmelo takes this as an acceptance of his challenge and simply proclaims "Let's do this, then."

In backstage footage from earlier today, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Tony D'Angelo. D'Angelo says he is at Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo's mercy, and that he honestly does not know him anymore as Stacks barely visits and he has been hearing some bad things lately.

We hear from Gigi Dolin, who says that everyone has a dark side and that she has put hers aside. She says Kiana James takes her anger out on her because she is the part of her she wishes she could still be, and after Kiana gave her a new coat of paint, she redecorated her office to remind her of a part of her that she cannot hide from. She says they are not that different, but she does not hide who she is while Kiana hides behind a lie. Backstage in the locker room, Kiana is surprised by some of the images from her past that Gigi Dolin has managed to dig up and is visibly shaken.

Andre Chase and Duke Hudson beat Drew Gulak and Charlie Dempsey with the Fratliner to Dempsey as Thea Hail has Drew Gulak in the Kimura Loc on the outside. During the match, Bronco Nima and Lucien Price are seen watching from the balcony, and the Chase University student section in the crowd does the wave, which goes across the arena.

We hear from Bron Breakker, who says that Ilja Dragunov made a big mistake thinking he was in the way of the NXT Championship when Dragunov himself was not even on his radar. Breakker says he leads the way, and while Dragunov will be champion again one day, there are not enough officials to stop him from breaking Dragunov on the way to The Great American Bash.

Backstage, Mr. Stone and Von Wagner talk about last week, with Von Wagner saying that while his parents tried to shield him from nastiness from other people that Javier Bernal's words reminded him of, they were not with him on the bus or at school, and the horrible treatment he received from other kids forced to go it alone and become the monster people thought he was to make it through life. He says he came to NXT to continue to be that monster, but when the crowd cheered for himself, he did not know what to do, and for the first time in his life, he feels like he is being himself, and he has Mr. Stone to thank for that.

Cora Jade beats Kelani Jordan. After the match, Cora grabs her Kendo stick, but Kelani evades getting hit and Dana Brooke fights Cora Jade, nearly hitting her with her own Kendo stick in the process.

We hear form Ilja Dragunov. He says that he will finish what Bron Breakker started a month ago and that Breakker will feel his wrath and fury, and tells Breakker that his fury is unmatched and will lead him to the NXT Championship.

In backstage footage from after last week's show, Eddy Thorpe thanks Gable Steveson for his help against Damon Kemp. Steveson says he has a lot to think about regarding his future, but he also loves being in NXT, too. Meanwhile, back in the locker room, everyone is impressed with Eddy Thorpe, but Dijak shows up and says that there is no way Thorpe is the toughest man in NXT after that match.

Ilja Dragunov beats Bron Breakker to become #1 contender for the NXT Championship at The Great American Bash.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Wes Lee. Wes Lee says that while he has treated every title defense like his biggest match, he admits that Mustafa Ali is a different animal. Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio show up and accepts an open challenge from Wes Lee despite Wes Lee not having an open challenge in so long due to things getting crazy every time he did, which Wes Lee mentions. Wes Lee then says he can make a match official right now, and Dominik tells him he will face him next week to give him time to prepare.

We hear from Baron Corbin, who torched his past last week and is now the master of his own destiny. He then says that he is now without a compass and wondering what his future holds, as his house and his life were built from the echoes of the last eight years. He says that he is fighting fate, and as he looks back, he can see that he had nothing in common with those he once portrayed to be, but now, he wonders who he is. Baron Corbin drives to a place where tiki torches are lit, and he sees a strange, hooded figure.

Tiffany Stratton beats Ivy Nile after shoving her way out of the Diamond Chain. After the match, Tiffany Stratton calls the fans annoying for chanting that she tapped out and tells them that she does not need to explain anything, as she beat Thea Hail fair and square.

Backstage, Thea Hail talks with Andre Chase about what she learned from Drew Gulak and Charlie Dempsey when Duke Hudson says that Thea Hail is getting to Tiffany Stratton. Andre Chase says Thea is not done with Tiffany, as she has made her tap out once and she can make her tap out again.

We find out via Twitter that Noam Dar has cancelled this week's Supernova Sessions due to not having the strength to carry on without the NXT Heritage Cup.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Blair Davenport, who says that while Roxanne Perez was a decorated champion, she has now arrived, and the women's division is now for grown women. She says that girls like Roxanne Perez with a never-say-die attitude never beat women like her, and when she is done with Roxanne, she will leave her on the shelf for good just like everyone else she has attacked.

Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo beats Joe Coffey to free Tony D'Angelo from prison. (Had Joe Coffey won, Tony D'Angelo would have gone to trial.) During the match, Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo lays down for Joe Coffey, but kicks out. Joe Coffey tells Stacks that they had a business deal, but Stacks tells Coffey he is no snitch. After the commercial break, we get a collect call from Tony D'Angelo, who states that Joe Coffey took the bait and that Stacks has Joe Coffey where they want him. Later on, Bronco Nima and Lucien Price briefly show up and distract Mark Coffey and Wolfgang. Later still, Mark Coffey tries to get involved in the match, but Stacks takes him out. Mark Coffey distracts the referee, but that allows Stacks to hit Joe Coffey with a crowbar before tossing it to Wolfgang and falling down, getting Wolfgang ejected from the match so he can beat Joe Coffey and free Tony D'Angelo.

Backstage, Ivy Nile is met by Schism (Joe Gacy, Rip Fowler, Jagger Reid, Ava Raine) and their followers. Ivy Nile blames Joe Gacy for The Creed Brothers (Julius and Brutus Creed) for being forced to leave NXT, but Joe Gacy says it is not possible because he was out of the building by that point, and Ava Raine says there is always room for one more in Schism.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Valentina Feroz and Yulisa Leon about Noam Dar, but they are soon interrupted by Los Lotharios (Humberto Garcia and Angel Garza), who want them to join them for the rest of the evening so they can put smiles back on their face. Valentina and Yulisa want none of this, with Valentina telling them to introduce themselves before hitting on them, Los Lotharios are soon met by Nathan Frazer and Dragon Lee, and they walk away.

The Judgment Day (Finn Balor and Damian Priest) beat Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams During the match, Dominik Mysterio tries to get in the ring with a chair but is stopped by the referee, and Damian Priest tries to use his Money In The Bank Briefcase as a weapon only to be stopped by Ilja Dragunov, who gets inadvertently taken out by Carmelo Hayes, who is aiming for Priest. This allows The Judgment Day to win the match. After the match, Carmelo is furious with Dragunov.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
