Raw Deal - Raw recap for July 24, 2023

The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley) are in the ring to start tonight's show. Rhea Ripley declares that The Judgment Day runs all of WWE, then Finn Balor and Rhea Ripley introduce "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio. Dominik rolls a short video package to celebrate his greatness, and as Dominik announces that he his the new NXT North American Champion, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn show up. Owens mentions that The Judgment Day tries to talk and act all menacing, and when Dominik tries to talk, nobody wants to listen to him, and says it irks him when people do not learn and says nobody cares what Dominik has to say ever. He tells Dominik that the best thing he can do for the business is to shut up forever, but Dominik gets booed down when he says he will not be disrespected. Sami says Dominik is disrespected only because nobody respects him, and if he were to take on one of them tonight, he could earn some respect. Dominik tells Sami that if he wants some, he can come get some, and Sami reminds Dominik of the big stink The Judgment Day made about not putting their titles on the line, and if he is the fighting champion he is, he will put his title on the line tonight. Rhea Ripley accepts on Dominik's behalf.

Sami Zayn vs. "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship is official for later tonight.

Becky Lynch beats Zoey Stark by catching her out of the air for the Manhandle Slam. As per pre-match stipulation, Becky Lynch gets a rematch against Trish Stratus. (Had she lost, she would have had to tattoo "Thank You, Trish" on her body.)

Vo Williams, the recording artists behind "Greatness," the official theme for Raw, is seen in the crowd.

"The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes heads to the ring. Cody says everyone has seen the footage of Brock Lesnar beating him with a chair in front of his mother, and as he admits that this was not on his bucket list for 2023, he is nonetheless impressed, as Lesnar is synonymous with SummerSlam. He says that the only person who was not impressed was his mother Michelle, as she is the same woman who watched Terry Funk throw fireballs into her husband's face and had drinks with Gordon Solie, and state that Lesnar made a mistake. Cody iterates that the mistake was leaving him breathing, and now he does not want to go to SummerSlam to win, but to embarrass Lesnar, and says he is not poking the bear, but slapping the bear in the face and daring the bear to come get it. Cody also says that he wants to Brock Lesnar not because he made it personal after breaking his arm, but it is because it is what Lesnar deserves, and when he looks back, he will have printed the final paragraph in his battle with Lesnar.

Backstage, Jackie Redmond interviews Ricochet, who is thrilled that Logan Paul has accepted his invitation and says that when Logan Paul shows up, they will take care of business, and until then, he will say what he has to say to him to his face.

"Dirty" Dominik Mysterio retains the NXT North American Championship against Sami Zayn. During the match, Kevin Owens, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley are all ejected from ringside after Owens stops Priest from getting involved in the match. Near the end of the match, as Sami goes for the Helluva Kick, Rhea and Priest attack Owens on the stage, and the distraction allows Dominik to retain with a schoolkid pin. After the match, medical personnel check on Owens.

Backstage, Kevin Owens is checked on in the trainer's room.

"Big" Bronson Reed beats Tommaso Ciampa. During the match, Shinsuke Nakamura shows up and heads towards the stage. This distracts Ciampa to the point that Bronson Lee is able to hit him with a shoulder block and nail him with the Tsunami for the win.

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviews Liv Morgan. Liv says Raquel Rodriguez is hurting, but she is big and strong and will be back to take care of Rhea Ripley. Tonight, however, Rhea is all hers, and she is the reason they are not tag tea champions and she walks around like there is nobody who can stop her. Liv says she is the last person to have beaten Rhea, and while she may or may not get beaten up, she is still back in town. Liv leaves, then Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green show up wanting to know why Liv is being interviewed and they are not. When Byron mentions that they were interviewed last week and that Liv has a match tonight, Chelsea and Sonya say it is always someone else and that is either Liv or Rhea. Rhea shows up, and Sonya and Chelsea walk away. Rhea says she warned Liv and Raquel to stay out of their way, but they did not listen, and she took Raquel and Liv will be next.

Rhea Ripley vs. Liv Morgan ends before it begins following a savage attack from Rhea Ripley to Liv Morgan. During the attack, Rhea Ripley wraps a chair around Liv's arm and stomps the chair, injuring the arm before telling Liv to stay out of her business. After some gloating in which a referee and a member of medical checks on Liv, Rhea wraps the chair around Liv's arm and stomps the chair again before telling Liv that the division is hers.

Liv Morgan is checked on backstage.

Backstage, we hear from Alpha Academy (Chad Gable, Otis, Maxxine Dupri). Gable congratulates The Viking Raiders (Ivar, Erik, Valhalla) for winning a Viking Rules before stating nobody knows what the rules are and proposing an Academy Rules Match. Maxxine says nobody puts her through a table and challenges Valhalla to her first singles match ever.

Ricochet heads to the ring. Ricochet asks where Logan Paul is and demands that he show his face, and says there is a locker room full of guys and an arena full of people who know that Logan does not belong in WWE, and that he is among them. He states that it is not because Logan has not put in the work, but because Logan is "an arrogant little prick" who does not even respect anything that the locker room does, then challenges him for a match at SummerSlam. As Ricochet tells Logan that he will get a fight if he wants one, he is attacked from behind by Logan, who records an acceptance of Ricochet's challenge on his phone as he states that he will prove he is the best in WWE while mocking the fans. Ricochet stands up and superkicks Logan and hits him with a Shooting Star Press before mocking Logan with his own phone.

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviews Logan Paul, who says that he feels victimized and that next week, he is coming for Ricochet and "popping his stupid bald head."

Damian Priest beats Apollo Crews.

Backstage, Jackie Redmond interviews Becky Lynch, who says she has been focused on not having to get a tattoo, and that it is not over until she wins.

We hear from The Viking Raiders (Ivar, Erik, Valhalla). Erik says the gods love a fight and Ivar says that the gods are happy. Valhalla accepts Maxxine Dupri's "foolish" challenge, and advises her to consult the gods as she will need them.

Imperium (Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser, Giovanni Vinci) heads to the ring. After the commercial break, Drew McIntyre heads to the ring and meets Imperium. Drew says he heard what Gunther had to say last week and that he is ready to battle right now. Gunther says he has brought the Intercontinental Championship to a prestige never seen before and that he will not defend his title tonight. He then sees why people connect with Drew, as Drew can never do anything in life, especially when he has repeatedly beaten and embarrassed him, and if Drew wants to ride his coattails, he accepts, and he will humiliate him at SummerSlam. Drew talks about how he met Sheamus for the first time and admits that while Gunther got the better of them at WrestleMania, SummerSlam will be one-on-one and he will beat himi and become champion. Ludwig Kaiser confronts Drew McIntyre for speaking to Gunther disrespectfully, then McIntyre admits he likes Kaiser for his moxie and says he should be the leader of Imperium. Kaiser says he will not let McIntyre disrespect Imperium, and Drew says that since Gunther does not want to do anything about it, he will fight Kaiser right now instead. McIntyre then calls for a referee before he and Kaiser have a staredown.

Drew McIntyre beats Ludwig Kaiser. After the match, Imperium (Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser, Giovanni Vinci) attacks McIntyre. Matt Riddle runs into the ring, but he is soon overpowered by Gunther, who powerbombs him. Gunther then clears the announce table and tries to powerbomb McIntyre through the table, but it is McIntyre who ends up powerbombing Gunther through it instead.

Backstage, Jackie Redmond interviews "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey. Ronda says "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler cannot challenge her to "a fight," because when she is in the match, it is "the fight." She then accepts Shayna's challenge.

Finn Balor heads to the ring for his contract signing for his match against Seth "Freakin'" Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. Finn says that he believes he and Rollins can handle things like gentlemen, then demands that Rollins come tot he ring, sign the contract and make the match official. Rollins makes his way to the ring and signs the contract, then moves the contract towards Finn and takes a seat. Finn Balor contemplates signing the contract as Rollins says Finn has figured out he has zero chance of walking out of SummerSlam as World Heavyweight Champion, and while it is most likely he will beat him, if Finn Balor wins, his World Heavyweight reign will be shorter than his Universal Championship reign after Damian Priest cashes in on him, as Finn Balor would do the same thing. He tells Finn Balor to keep "chasing that ghost," as SummerSlam will be the end of, not the cornation for, The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley, "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio). Finn says Rollins thinks he is so smart and that he runs the place when he does not, then says The Judgment Day runs the place. As he continues to speak to Rollins, the rest of The Judgment Day surrounds the ring as Finn says he has lost for seven years because of Rollins. He says that his situation feels like "a seven-year itch," and at SummerSlam, he will make Rollins his "seven-year bitch." Rollins topples the table and fights Finn while also fending off Dominik, but he gets nailed with the Money In The Bank briefcase by Priest. Sami Zayn runs into the ring with a chair and goes to town on Priest and Dominik, but he is stopped by Rhea and Finn proceeds to beat Sami up. The Judgment Day then gangs up on Rollins in the middle of the ring to end the show.
