Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for June 3, 2022

The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) head to the ring to start tonight's show. Kofi Kingston says The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Ridge Holland, Butch) have put them through the wringer, but now they are back in the winner's circle thanks to Drew McIntyre, whom Xavier Woods introduces. Drew McIntyre heads to the ring, then gives a shout out to Big E, whom he says nobody has forgotten. He then announces he will win the WWE Undisputed Championship at Clash at the Castle. The New Day then gift Drew with a "Big D" kilt as the crowd chants "Happy Birthday." Suddenly, The Brawling Brutes arrive. Sheamus says The New Day and Drew's victory was as tainted as every Ohio State victory and that they had no prepare for their match, and says that if they wrestled one more time, The Brawling Brutes would win. Butch rushes the ring, but he gets tossed right back out.

The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Ridge Holland, Butch) beat The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) and Drew McIntyre.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Matt Riddle and Shinsuke Nakamura. Both men agree that they are good tag team partners despite Riddle saying Nakamura "is no Randy [Orton]" and Nakamura saying Riddle "is no Rick Boogs." Riddle says that he will hurt The Bloodline twice as badly as they hurt Orton, and that tonight is not about title gold, but about vengeance. He says this match is for Randy Orton.

Backstage, WWE official Adam Pearce is met by Max Dupri, who says that he has been scouting SmackDown for talent and that he has found his first client, and that this client will be unveiled next week.

Backstage before the next match, Jinder Mahal tells Shanky there will be no dancing. Shanky dances behind Jinder, anyway.

Jinder Mahal beats Humberto following the distraction by a dancing Shanky. After the match, Shanky dances for ring announcer Samantha Irvin, and this time, Samantha joins in.

"Rowdy" Ronda Rousey guests on commentary for the next match. It is also revealed that Aliyah has been locked in the women's locker room again, but she is soon helped out of the locker room.

Natalya beats Shotzi, Aliyah, "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler, Xia Li and Raquel Rodriguez by pinning Shotzi after Raquel hits Shotzi with the Tejano Bomb while Baszler has Raquel in a sleeper hold. After the match, "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey has a staredown with Natalya in the center of the ring.

In a digital exclusive from last Friday, Corbin says Madcap Moss will either be sent to the funeral or will be begging on his knees for his job back. We then see Moss - now in black tights, knee pads and boots - come out of an ambulance.

We see a vignette for Lacey Evans, who returns to SmackDown next week (despite being initially assigned for Raw).

Madcap Moss heads to the ring. Moss talks about how Happy Corbin injured him three weeks ago with a chair and the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy, then says that while Corbin thought he ended "Madcap Moss", Moss himself buried him. Moss then says that he has had a dream of punching Corbin the face and that the fans would like to see him do it, then tells Corbin to get in the ring before he finds him. Corbin says Moss is here only because he missed him and what he brought to his life as his employer, and that he is here to beg for his job back. Moss says the only thing he wants from Corbin is to knock his teeth down his throat. Corbin says nothing would make him more happy than to teach Moss another lesson in humility, but it is not happening tonight because Moss is not thinking straight and he is about to throw his career away because he is emotional. WWE official Adam Pearce then shows up and makes Corbin vs. Moss official.

Happy Corbin beats Madcap Moss by disqualification after Corbin tries to hit Moss with a chair and Moss uses the chair against him. After the match, Moss hits Corbin with the chair as well as the ring steps, then wraps the chair around Corbin's neck. Officials stop Moss from throwing ring steps into the chair to break Corbin's neck.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso). They dedicate their match tonight to Roman Reigns and proclaim that The Bloodline (Reigns, Jimmy, Jey) will still be dripping in all the gold.

Backstage, WWE official Adam Pearce tells Happy Corbin that he and Madcap Moss will have a match at Hell In A Cell, and this time, it is no-holds-barred.

Backstage, we hear from Ricochet, who says he is Intercontinental Champion because his ring work is flawless and that next week, he is confident that Gunther will respect his ability while he stays champion. We then hear from Ludwig Kaiser and Gunther. Kaiser says the Intercontinental title represents honor and integrity and that nobody is more worthy than Gunther before telling Ricochet his time is up. Gunther then says he will become the new Intercontinental Champion.

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) retain the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championships against Matt Riddle and Shinsuke Nakamura. During the match, Nakamura's knee hits the ring steps when he goes for a running knee strike on Jimmy on the outside, then Jey kicks Nakamura in the back of the knee, injuring Nakamura and causing referees and a trainer to send him to the back. This leaves Riddle fighting solo for the rest of the match. The match ends when Roman Reigns' theme plays, distracting Riddle and allowing The Usos to get the win. After the match, it is revealed that Sami Zayn is the one who played Roman Reigns' theme. Riddle charges at Sami Zayne and attacks him, and referees have to break up the brawl to end the show.
