Memphis Thing - Memphis Wrestling recap for June 4, 2022

Mike Anthony shows up to start today's show, and Dustin Starr interviews him at the announce desk. Mike leads another "Mike" chant after hearing the crowd chant for him, then says his bandwagon is full and that everybody doubted him, and that everyone only wants to cheer for him now that he is champion. He then says he knows Brett Michaels is coming and that he is not a hard man to find because he is holding the Memphis Heritage Championship. "The GunShow" Brett Michaels shows up and gives credit where credit is due to Mike Anthony, then tells him that he is a marked man before they can go at it right now if Mike takes his off suit. Mike tells Brett he will have to earn his shot at the championship. After the crowd chants "You scared," Brett says he does not blame Mike for being scared because he "pissed [him] off" when he took the Heritage title, then says that if he has to earn his title match, he might as well do it right now.

"The GunShow" Brett Michaels quickly beats Jason Dredd. After the match, Dustin Starr interviews Brett, who tells Mike Anthony that he will take out whoever he puts in front of him and that he will be next.

Dustin Starr interviews Austin Lane at the announce desk. Austin says Memphis is his home and that he will defend his home, and that Matt was his friend and he let him down. He says that while the crowd calls Matt a traitor, he calls him a liar for saying he had him in his shadow, then issues a Best of the Best Challenge to Matt knowing Matt will not face him, and that if he will not do it, Norman Meklakov will. He then says that Matt is scared of him and will not face him because he knows that he is the better wrestler, then Brandon Espinosa shows up and says he is here to extend an invitation to join his dysfunctional family. Espinosa says he wants to open Austin's eyes and see the dysfunction that "this dystopia" has caused, and then asks Austin again to join him. When Espinosa gets in the ring, Austin Lane shakes his hand, then puts him in a fireman's carry to start their match.

Austin Lane beats Brandon Espinosa. During the match, Norman Meklakov and Matt show up. After the commercial break, Matt distracts Austin Lane by saying that he wants to talk outside of the ring in the middle of the match. Later in the match, Matt distracts the referee so that Meklakov can hand Espinosa a chair, but Espinosa tosses it out of the ring. Austin Lane then hits Espinosa with two Spears for the win.

Dustin Starr interviews Rhino at the announce desk. Rhino says that when a challenge is made, a man accepts it, but before he does, he looks back on his life and on the roads that took him to this point. After asking the fans if they want him to accept the challenge, he accepts K-Toomer's challenge and says it will be hardcore.

Dustin Starr interviews The Posse (Simon and Mr. Chris) at the announce desk. Simon threatens to beat Dustin Starr up if he steps to him, then Mr. Chris says they are the tag team championships and are here to get the respect they deserve. Suddenly, The Skimahorns show up. Brad Skimahorn announces The Skimahorns are coming for the tag team titles, and Simon tells the Skimahorns that they made a mistake.

"The True American" Trace Lee Hunt beats Gio Savage.

Dustin Starr interviews Van Viciouss and "Hollywood" Jimmy Blaylock at the announce desk. Blaylock says he has an action star next to him and that he needs a starlet who is the caliber of Marilyn Monroe, Jennifer Aniston or Elizabeth Taylor, then says she has found the prettiest woman in professional wrestling today. He then introduces Diana Taylor before saying that Derrick King is an idiot for not wanting to be Van Viciouss' assistant, then Derrick shows up and calls Viciouss his "leftovers" and says Diana Taylor "looks like she should be on Brooks Road somewhere right now." (Author's note: Brooks Road, especially East Brooks Road, is best known locally in Memphis for its strip clubs and its history of having strip clubs. This is why Dustin Starr tells Derrick King "It's a family show.") Derrick King then challenges Blaylock to a mixed tag team match, and introduces Cassandra Golden before issuing the challenge right now. Blaylock asks Derrick King where he got "that shit" from before running away. (Author's note: I swear, that's what Blaylock is saying when he is mute-censored there for obvious reasons. This promo was wild.)

Derrick King and Cassandra Golden beats The Hollywood Clique (Van Viciouss and "Dirty" Diana Taylor) after Cassandra reverses the DDT into a Death Valley Driver, leading Golden to pin Diana for a third time.
