Raw Deal - Raw recap for May 23, 2022

Matt Riddle heads to the ring to start tonight's show. Riddle says he is here with a heavy heart, then says that Randy Orton is his bro and that the last few months have been hard for him. Riddle is choked up as he says that Orotn has been having a hard time, especially with his back. He says that last week, Orton could barely walk, even though Orton did not want to let him and the fans down because he know how much last week's match meant to everyone, even though they lost. He then says that The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) won only because Roman Reigns interfered and calls Roman "a tribal piece of trash" before saying he will get his vengeance on Roman, The Usos and anyone associated with them. Riddle says Orton has done more for him than anyone else and that he loves and appreciates him for it, then says he does not know what the future holds for RK-Bro (Orton and Riddle) or if they will even be a thing again.

Before the next match, The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) brag about becoming Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships and putting Randy Orton out of commission as they ask how the audience will react to them being announced as undisputed champions. When they come out, both teams in the next match brawl and multiple referees have to restore order.

Matt Riddle and The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) beat Sami Zayn and The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) in a six-man tag match after The Usos leave Sami Zayn high and dry and vulnerable to an RKO from Riddle.

Bobby Lashley heads to the ring. Lashley talks about his victory against Omos in a steel cage last week and about the anger and defeat he saw in Omos' face, which meant that it was far from over and that they had more to fight about. He then announces that he has learned that they will be doing it one more time at Hell In A Cell before announcing that tonight is "The All Mighty Challenge" and calling out Omos and MVP. Omos and MVP show up, and MVP says that Lashley is the maverick rather than the top gun and would not have won had it not been for "faulty equipment." As MVP says he has filed an official complaint, Lashley tells MVP to shut up because nobody wants to hear him. Lashley then states a regular match with regular stipulations is not enough to settle things between him and Omos, and that the winner of tonight's match between himself and MVP will decide the stipulation for Hell In A Cell. MVP says he is responsible for Lashley's ascension and that he will be responsible for his downfall, and that he will beat him and add a stipulation that not even Lashley can overcome, but Lashley says he made MVP and that he will put him in the Hurt Lock before he breaks Omos. MVP and Omos surround the ring, but MVP gets decked before Omos can get to the other side.

Crown Jewel is coming to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 5th.

Backstage, Dana Brooke tells WWE official Adam Pearce that she wants Carmella, then Becky Lynch runs into her on her way out and wants her loss against Asuka stricken off the record before demanding a WWE Raw Women's Championship shot. Adam Pearce tells Becky Lynch that she has a rematch against Asuka tonight, and if she wins, the WWE Raw Women's Championship at Hell In A Cell will be a Triple Threat Match.

The Judgment Day is in the ring. Damian Priest states that Edge issued a challenge to anyone who agreed with their mission statement to join them last week, and states that part of their mission statement is modesty. He says that he and Rhea Ripley were different from everyone else and that Edge saw that, and if it were not for him, they would be like the rest of the sheep waiting for instructions like everyone else, who lack the courage to be who they are. He then says The Judgment Day can help them if they can help themselves. Rhea Ripley tells Liv Morgan that she uses her heart more than her head and to stop listening to the fans and start thinking for herself. She tells Liv that she might forgive her for failing her in the past by saving herself like she did and joining them. Edge says the truth is in front of the fans' faces and will set them free, but they are too blind to see. He then says The Judgment Day is both physical and mental power to rewrite one's career under a great learning tree, for he was not picked to sit at the top of the mountain and got their through hard work and the success that followed. Edge then says the fans are "sheeple" who are afraid to grab life by the horns for all that it is worth, and that they are the chance to headbutt glass ceilings he shattered decades ago. He then asks who the next member of The Judgment Day will be and goes through a list of names before saying that AJ Styles standing side-to-side with them is better for his health than standing eye-to-eye and that AJ's kids might even be calling him "Uncle Edge." Edge then tells Styles that the choice is his and that he should choose wisely.

The Judgment Day (Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley) beat "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles and Liv Morgan following Edge helping Rhea Ripley block Ob-Liv-Ion. After the match, Styles goes after Edge, but The Judgment Day gang up on and overpower him and Edge hits Styles with a Spear. Rhea Ripley then hits Liv Morgan with Riptide.

Backstage, Kevin Patrick interviews The Miz. Miz says he is sick and tired of "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes and that one should never trust a man with a neck tattoo, and says that Cody could never beat him before he left. He also says that Cody's ego is too big. Miz says that tonight, he will knock Cody down a peg, and that the fans who will wait all night to see Cody will have no choice but to see him.

It's time for The King's Court. Tonight's guest is Veer Mahaan. When Jerry Lawler asks Veer Mahaan what the secret to his success is, Veer says nothing. Lawler then asks why he has targeted Rey and Dominik Mysterio, but again, Veer says nothing. Lawler says that it may have been what Rey and Dominik have said about him, and as Lawler mentions jokes, Veer grabs the mic - and Lawler's arm - and says that while Rey is a legend, he is too busy worrying about his son Dominik. He says that made Rey weak, and he took both of them out. He then asks if he smells fear on Lawler, but Lawler says it is just his cheap cologne. Veer then says that he should show Lawler who he is rather than explain. Rey and Domink show up as Veer stares down Lawler and brawl with Veer, but Veer overpowers both men once again. Rey and Dominik drop kick him when he tries to get in the ring, and the two of them turn the tables. Veer teases getting in the ring with Rey and Dominik, but retreats instead.

Backstage, Sarah Schreiber interviews Alexa Bliss. Alexa says Sonya Deville has had a rough couple of weeks and says Sonya should look into therapy, then says she gets to face Nikki A.S.H. before stating it is great to be back.

Alexa Bliss beats Nikki A.S.H.

Backstage, Kevin Patrick interviews Seth "Freakin'" Rollins. Rollins says the fans used to sing his song every night in every city, but now, all he hears is the fans chanting for "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes and it makes him physically ill to hear that. He asks where it stops and where his countdown clock is before stating the clock is in his head ticking away second by second, then asks what will happen when the clock strikes zero.

Backstage, Sarah Schreiber interviews Asuka. Asuka says Becky Lynch is not ready for her because she has been too busy crying, and tonight, she will beat Becky Lynch again and turn Becky Lynch into "a big time baby."

"The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes beats The Miz by disqualification after Seth "Freakin'" Rollins pushes Cody off the top rope. After the match, Rollins continues to attack Cody, which leads to a brawl between the two in which The Miz also attacks Cody in. Rollins and Miz then throw Cody into the ring steps, and Cody's knee hits the steps hard. Rollins then takes the weight belt that Cody gave to a young fan before the match and whips Cody with it. When Cody gets up, he notices the belt and limps his way back to the young fan, who gets the weight belt back. He then has the referee for the match help him to the back.

Kevin Owens guests on commentary for the next match.

Ezekiel beats Chad Gable with an O'Connor Roll after Otis and Kevin Owens get ejected from ringside for getting involved in the match. After the match, a seething Owens makes it clear to Ezekiel he wants to beat the hell out of him and challenges him to a match at Hell In A Cell.

Backstage, Kevin Patrick interviews Cody Rhodes, who says that he can put weight on his knee before stating that if Seth Rollins want to finish the job, he will be waiting at Hell In A Cell.

MVP beats Bobby Lashley by count-out thanks to Omos brawling with Bobby Lashley at ringside. As per pre-match stipulation, MVP gets to pick the stipulation for Lashley vs. Omos at Hell In A Cell.

Next week: Lacey Evans returns to action!
