Wild Card Wednesday - Dynamite recap for May 18, 2022

The "Joker" opponent for Samoa Joe in the men's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament is former WWE Superstar John Morrison, who goes by the name "Johnny Elite" for the next match.

Samoa Joe beats Johnny Elite to advance in the men's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. During the match, it is announced that this week's Rampage will have a special start time of 7 PM Eastern/6 PM Central. After the match, Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt run into the ring to attack Samoa Joe, then Satnam Singh joins in. Suddenly, Best Friends (Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta, Rocky Romero) show up and chase them away.

Backstage, Lexi Nair interviews Jeff Hardy, who is officially medically cleared. The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) show up and tell him to take the night off, as he is a shell of his former self and Adam Cole will beat him. Jeff Hardy has none of it, and Matt Hardy calls The Young Bucks "Jeff Hardy cosplayers" and a bunch of whiny bitches, and promises them a beating if they get involved in Jeff's match tonight.

CM Punk guests on commentary for the next match.

"Hangman" Adam Page beats Konosuke Takashita with the Buckshot Lariat followed by the GTS. After the match, Page and Punk have a staredown across the ramp before meeting close up.

We hear from Fuego del Sol, who says that The House of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King, Buddy Matthews) has made his life a living hell and that it is time to even the odds. 10 and Evil Uno show up to say that at Rampage, it is on.

Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee beat The Workhorsemen (JD Drake and Anthony Henry). After the match, Keith Lee announces that he and Swerve Strickland are now a top five ranked tag team after tonight's match. Suddenly, Team Taz ("Absolute" Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs) shows up. Starks says that Lee and Swerve do not deserve a tag team title shot, especially when he has beaten them, but Swerve Strickland makes fun of Starks' wardrobe before Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus and Christian Cage arrive. Christian Cage tells both teams that while they are both worthy, Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus are the best, and they will challenge both teams to a three-way match for the AEW World Tag Team Championships at Double Or Nothing. He also wants Jungle Boy to get his win back after last week, and proposes Jungle Boy vs. Ricky Starks vs. Swerve Strickland next week.

Backstage, Tony Schiavone interviews Kris Statlander and Red Velvet. Red Velvet says they are not friends anymore and she wants to win the Owen Hart Foundation tournament, and tells Kris to bring everything she has got. Kris admits both of them have changed and that she plans on going to the top, and that this is strictly business. Jade Cargill and Kiera Hogan show up, and Jade says it is hilarious that Red Velvet and Kris were friends before Red Velvet found a real leader.

MJF and Shawn Spears head to the ring. MJF says he is looking at a bunch of "dumb, grotesque fatheads" before telling Wardlow that if he retaliates while getting his ten lashes, they will not have their match and Wardlow will never sign an AEW contract. Wardlow is then brought out to the ring by security, and MJF spits in his face to bait him into retaliating, but to no avail. The ten lashes then begin, but after just two lashes have no effect, MJF is absolutely livid while Wardlow is unfazed. After fix quick lashes from an angry MJF, Shawn Spears hits the eighth one. When MJF goes for the tenth lash, however, he also kicks Wardlow in the groin before he and Spears proceed to choke him. MJF then punches Wardlow with the Dynamite Diamond Ring, then Spears hits Wardlow with a C4 and MJF makes the three count.

Backstage, we hear from Trent Beretta and Rocky Romero. Beretta says Roppongi Vice is back full-time and ready to make a statement, and Romero says they want the ROH world tag titles, the IWGP heavyweight tag titles and the AEW world tag titles. Beretta then challenges FTR for the ROH World Tag Team Championships.

Kyle O'Reilly beats Rey Fenix by submission to advance in the men's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

The Blackpool Combat Club (William Regal, Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley), Santana, Ortiz and Eddie Kingston head to the ring, followed by the Jericho Appreciation Society. Angelo Parker demands that their theme song and their pyro be cut, then Chris Jericho chews out the fans for cheering the Society being ambushed. Jericho then comes to the conclusion that William Regal orchestrated the attack on him, then congratulates Regal on still being alive and still having a brain that works after all that he has been through. Jericho then calls William Regal "wasted potential," saying Regal could and should have been one of the greatest of all time only to end up "a world-class addict" who was fired from every company he ever worked for until he weaseled into AEW off the coattails of his proteges. He then states that Regal has a great set of proteges, then says Santana and Ortiz have everything they do in AEW because of him and that Eddie Kingston is too stupid to stay home and care for his family after he burned his face. After telling Eddie to tell his wife to call him, Jericho states that Bryan Danielson is the greatest wrestler in the world today who is nothing more than "a squeaky clean nerd" who will "join the program with Moxley" after Regal introduces him to drugs. Jericho calls everyone in the ring "a royal flush of losers" and warns Jericho to stay home and out of their business before he either throws a fireball in his face or pisses in his tea again. Regal says that ever since he first met Jericho in 1997, he has had to deal with his annoying voice and that the only thing that could make him sicker is screams from a burning orphanage. He admits Jericho may have told some truths about his past, but for every single time that he was on a show with him and was not wrestling him, he would go to his locker room, open his bag, take his toothbrush and stick it up his arse. When Daniel Garcia calls Regal out for it, Regal tells him he did it to his toothbrush last week. Jericho then says if Regal wants a fight, he will get it. Moxley interrupts him, saying he will not be sucked into Jericho's sports entertainment vortex. He says that instead of a Stadium Stampede match, he proposes they have their match in front of an arena of screaming fans until the Society bleeds like stuck pigs in "pro wrestling versus sports entertainment" and "the sport we love versus stupid bullshit." Jericho says if they want anarchy, they've got it, then brings up Moxley and Santana's "Eye For An Eye Match" as well as Danielson and Eddie Kingston's past history. Eddie is unfazed, and tells the Society to get in the ring and fight. Jericho says "Forget it," and the Society leaves. Eddie is about to go after them, but Danielson stops him. Both men get physical, and everyone else has to stop them.

Backstage, we hear from Matt Sydal and Dante Martin. Sydal says The Blackpool Combat Club (William Regal, Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta) cannot get along with anyone, and Dante Martin says that they want a fight. Sydal says he and Dante can give them one at Rampage.

Maki Itoh is revealed as the Joker in the women's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament before the next match.

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. beats Maki Itoh with the Lockjaw to advance int he women's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. After the match, Toni Storm shows up and stares down Britt Baker from the stage.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring. As he mentioned AEW's coming third anniversary, Serena Deeb shows up and says she is sick and tired of hearing him talk, then says Tony states she could not beat Thunder Rosa at Double or Nothing. Serena congratulates Tony Schiavone into making himself a complete idiot in one interview, then calls out Dustin Rhodes for comments she has made about her and tells him to come to the ring. It does not take long at all for Dustin to show up. Serena says Dustin is as much of an idiot as Tony and says Jim Ross is the only one with brain cells around here, then calls Thunder Rosa "Dustin's teacher's pet" and says she respected him, stating she got none in the business after getting breast implants to satisfy some "old perverts" and shaving her head to show how bad she wanted it. Serena then asks Dustin why he said that she could not beat Thunder Rosa, and when she does not give an answer, Serena says he cannot answer because he does not have the balls to. She then says that when she become AEW Women's World Champion, Dustin will respect her. Thunder Rosa shows up just before Serena slaps Dustin, and when Dustin holds Thunder Rosa back, Serena hits Thunder Rosa with the women's world championship belt.

Adam Cole beats Jeff Hardy to advance to the finals of the men's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. After the match, Matt Hardy confronts Adam Cole, then The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) show up. The Hardys see them coming, and Adam Cole clotheslines The Hardys from behind. The Bucks then hit Matt with the BTE-Trigger before going on the attack. Darby Allin and Sting show up and beat up Adam Cole and The Bucks, but Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish show up and beat up Darby Allin. Sting soon fends them off, and withstands a chair from O'Reilly before getting double superkicked by The Bucks. The Bucks then wrap a steel chair around Sting's ankle, and Kyle O'Reilly hits the chair with a top rope knee drop to hurt Sting's ankle to end the show.
