Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for April 29, 2022

Drew McIntyre beats Sami Zayn in a steel cage match.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Charlotte Flair. Charlotte says she does not get humiliated or embarrassed, as she is Charlotte Flair, and says that "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey will be so embarrassed that she will never show her face again when she finds out she is better than her at everything.

It's time for Happy Talk. Happy Corbin says the show is "new and improved" now that Madcap Moss is no longer on the show, for his awful jokes dragged the show down. He says that the only thing that Madcap did that was funny was think he was him. Corbin says that Madcap is still living off his Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and that Madcap owes that victory to him, because he molded him with his own two hands and turned him to gold. After saying that he will destroy Madcap Moss at WrestleMania Backlash, Corbin than says that he will destroy what matters to him: the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy, which Corbin has brought out to the ring. Corbin says that he cannot wait to see the look on Madcap Moss's face when the trophy is broken into pieces, then asks for a sledgehammer. The sledgehammer is brought out by a stage hand who happens to be Madcap Moss. Corbin tries to run away, but Madcap Moss gets his hands on him and beats him up, forcing Corbin to retreat.

Ricochet retains the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Shanky with a stack-up pin despite Jinder Mahal tripping Ricochet off the top rope. After the match, Jinder Mahal chews out Shanky, and Shanky walks out on him.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Raquel Rodriguez. Raquel says she is used to having all eyes on her before admitting she is nervous, but she does like being the center of attention and plans to put on a show and make an impact no one will ever forget.

Raquel Rodriguez beats Cat Cardoza (who is really independent wrestler Leila Gray) in her SmackDown debut.

We hear from Ludwig Kaiser and Gunther. Kaiser says that Gunther is the embodiment of the greatest as he pulverizes any and every opponent he faces. Gunther says respect will be taken by "The Ring General."

Make-A-Wish Kid Giovanna is seen in the front row.

RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Matt Riddle) head to the ring for the contract signing for their tag team championship unification match at WrestleMania Backlash. WWE official Adam Pearce is in the ring as The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) head to the ring for the contract signing after the commercial break. Pearce welcomes both teams to the contract signing, then Jimmy Uso says they have nothing to prove to him or RK-Bro because everybody knows that The Usos are "the ones." Jey says their bloodline will be draped with gold and Jimmy says that they will need bigger luggage as they get more acknowledgement. Riddle admits that he cannot tell Jimmy and Jey Uso apart, then Orton calls Jey "the right hand man" and Jimmy "the little bitch." This immediately leads to a brawl, and Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman head to the ring. As Orton and Riddle wait for Roman, The Usos attack them from behind. Orton gets the double superkicks, and Riddle gets hit with the 1D. Roman picks up the contract and rips it up before stuffing it in Riddle's mouth and punching Riddle in the face. Suddenly, Drew McIntyre shows up and lays out The Usos, then gets in the ring and brawls with Roman. Roman retreats after McIntyre throws him across the ring with a belly-to-belly suplex.

Backstage, WWE official Adam Pearce is met by Paul Heyman, who says that Roman Reigns is not happy and proposes that RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Matt Riddle) and Drew McIntyre team up against Roman Reigns and The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) at WrestleMania Backlash. Pearce says he cannot do that because of the tag team titles, but Heyman says he will once he goes to the board of directors.

Drew Gulak is the timekeeper for the next match.

Naomi beats "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler. After the match, Natalya attacks Naomi, and Sasha Banks fights her. Natalya drives Sasha knee-first into the ring apron before putting her in the Sharpshooter around the bottom rope while Baszler plants Naomi. Natalya forces Sasha to watch as Baszler stomps Naomi's elbow.

It is announced that Butch has been missing since last week's SmackDown. Backstage, Sheamus tells Ridge Holland that they have to find Butch and that he has put posters everywhere, then brag about what they are going to do to Xavier Woods.

The six-man tag match between the team of Drew McIntyre and RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Matt Riddle) and the team of Roman Reigns and The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) at WrestleMania Backlash is official.

Before the next match, Kofi Kingston make fun of Sheamus and Ridge Holland for losing Butch after a month-and-a-half while he and Xavier Woods have been together since 2014. Xavier Woods makes fun of "Shake-It Sheamus" for having more tag team partners than Kofi, saying Sheamus will be shaking it outside of the ring while he is destroying Ridge inside the ring.

Xavier Woods beats Ridge Holland with the Backwoods. After the match, Sheamus tells Ridge he will show how it it done and challenges Kofi Kingston a one-on-one match. Kofi accepts.

Sheamus beats Kofi Kingston. After the match, Ridge Holland attacks Xavier Woods from behind on the outside, then Sheamus pulls a table out from underneath the ring and sets it up as Ridge holds Woods down. Ridge then powerbombs Woods through the table.

We hear from Lacey Evans, who talks about how she was kicked out of her home at age 17 before graduating high school and graduating out of boot camp and military police school and finding out that her father failed to show up for her graduation. She said she had to find a different driving force while her parents failed to understand that drug addiction and homelessness was not an option, and that force is what drives her to take on every Superstar in the locker room. Lacey says that while she is not any better than the other Superstars, they are no better than her.

Charlotte Flair shows up to watch the next match from ringside.

"Rowdy" Ronda Rousey beats Shotzi in a Beat The Clock Challenge with an ankle lock in 1:41 (one minute, forty-one seconds). After the match, Charlotte Flair congratulates Ronda and tells her to take her victory lap as it will be her last win for a very long time. Charlotte then demands Aliyah get in the ring for her "ten seconds of fame with Charlotte Flair."

Charlotte Flair fails to beat Aliyah in the Beat The Clock Challenge after Aliyah boots her way out of a Figure Eight Challenge and refuses to submit to the second successful attempt. "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey wins the Beat The Clock Challenge. After the match, Charlotte Flair confronts Drew Gulak and tells him he cannot do his job as a timekeeper before booting him in the face. Charlotte then grabs the ring bell and hits Gulak in the back of his neck with it.
