Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for April 22, 2022

WWE official Adam Pearce oversees a contract signing for "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair in an I Quit Match for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship at WrestleMania Backlash. Charlotte is introduced first, followed by Rousey. Drew Gulak, who is now training to become Pearce's new assistant, shows up with the contract, then is about to present a PowerPoint presentation on the rules of an "I Quit" Match when Charlotte tells him to stop. After Ronda compliments Charlotte on her outfit and the fans remind Charlotte that she tapped out, Charlotte says that there are no rules to an "I Quit" Match before vocally contemplating how to make Ronda quit. Charlotte then says that she always finds a way to win and that at WrestleMania Backlash, she will make Ronda say "I Quit." She then signs the contract. Ronda reminds Charlotte that "I Quit" means there isn't a referee to save her from embarrassment and pull her off of her when it is over, and that Charlotte will be saying that she is better than her when she quits. Before Ronda can sign the contract, Charlotte flips the table and tries to hit her with a Kendo stick, but Ronda turns the weapon against her. Ronda then hits Gulak - who takes the Kendo stick away - with Piper's Pit before simultaneously putting him in an arm bar and signing the contract.

Xavier Woods beats Butch with a DDT into the Backwoods. After the match, Butch jumps the barricade, throws a security guard over it, then leaves through the crowd.

Backstage, Aliyah talks with Ricochet about his Intercontinental Championship reign so far. Ricochet says this is just the beginning and that holding the title is an honor, and that he wants to be one of the best to ever hold. Jinder Mahal and Shanky then show up and question Ricochet's confidence, and Ricochet says he will defend his title anywhere at anytime. Shanky then tells Ricochet to take him on, and Ricochet accepts his challenge.

Gunther beats Teddy Goodz.

Backstage, Matt Riddle says he will beat Jey Uso tonight with a sick move when Drew McIntyre shows up. Riddle says that he has made himself and Orton lumberjacks in McIntyre's match as part of a fresh start. McIntyre says that anyone who stands up to what Roman Reigns and The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) does is good in his book, and Orton says that he and McIntyre are good. Meanwhile, Sami Zayn has been listening in from a distance.

We hear from Xia Li, who says that she has not found anyone worthy of her protection and is now only protecting herself.

Matt Riddle beats Jimmy Uso after getting his knees up to block the Uso Splash.

Kayla Braxton interviews Naomi and Sasha Banks in the ring. Naomi says she knew what she and Sasha were capable of together and backed it up, and now they are tag team champions. Sasha says that they are trailblazers and history makers, and that they are a sisterhood. She says that Naomi has had her back since day one and that they flow so well in and out of the ring that they have no competition. As Naomi says it does not matter who faces them for the titles next, Natalya and "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler show up. Natalya says that they did not beat them to become champions and that she is a three-time Guinness world record holder, and Baszler says they will stretch and snap every bone in their body limb by limb before taking the women's tag titles. Baszler shoves Sasha, and Naomi holds her back before daring Natalya and Baszler to come and tag the women's tag titles.

Backstage, Madcap Moss is met by Happy Corbin, who congratulates him on winning last week before saying they both said some harsh things and is willing to forgive him and take him back. Madcap Moss says there is as much chance of him going back to Corbin as there is Corbin growing back a full head of hair, and tells him that that ship sailed.

We see a vignette for Raquel Rodriguez, who debuts next week.

Madcap Moss beats Angel. After the match, Happy Corbin runs into the ring and attacks Madcap Moss before hitting him with End of Days. He then takes the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy and walks off with it.

Backstage, Sami Zayn entertains the idea of knocking on the door to Roman Reigns' dressing room.

Backstage, Roman Reigns speaks with The Usos about what happened earlier tonight when Paul Heyman tells Roman that Sami Zayn wants to see him. Sami acknowledges Roman, then tells him about Drew McIntyre "getting chummy" with RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Matt Riddle), who are lumberjacks in his match, and tells Roman that RK-Bro have said disrespectful things about Roman's entire family. Sami Zayn says that his reputation has taken a hit and people think he is scared of Drew McIntyre, then says he must beat McIntyre to restore his credibility and is willing to help Roman out if Roman were to help him tonight. Sami leaves the room, then Roman tells The Usos to take his name out of the mouths of those who would disrespect him.

We hear from Lacey Evans, who says that if her family were not in tents, they were in unsafe housing. She also says that the more money her dad made, the more trouble and drugs that came with it. She also says that her mother was not always there for her. Lacey says that she learned from an early age that if she needed something right, she had to do it herself, and that it was up to her to push herself and succeed and realize how unstoppable she could become. She says that she learned how unbreakable she is and that she feels sorry for anyone who has never been forced to push themselves, and says that while she is no better than the other Superstars, they are not better than her.

Drew McIntyre vs. Sami Zayn ends with Sami Zayn running away after The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) attack RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Matt Riddle) during the match, leading to the lumberjacks brawling and Sami Zayn getting away. He says there will be no running next week, as he and McIntyre will square off again next week in a steel cage. Jinder Mahal and Shanky then get in the ring to fight Drew McIntyre, but McIntyre fends them off and hits Jinder with a Claymore Kick.
