Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for April 15, 2022

RK-Bro (Matt Riddle and Randy Orton) head to the ring to start tonight's show. Riddle says he is stoked to be back on SmackDown, especially with Randy Orton, then mentions how Worcestershire sauce is named after Worcester in England, not in Massachusetts. Orton says they are here after what The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) did on Raw and demand that they face them in the ring, then The Usos show up. The Usos tell RK-Bro that they are behind enemy lines and that they know about Randy Orton, then remind RK-Bro of who they are dealing with. Orton says he respects The Usos' family, then calls The Usos assholes and that SmackDown is his show. After reminding The Usos of who they are dealing with, Orton then tells The Usos that he and Riddle accept their challenge, and both teams raise up their respective tag team titles. The Usos feign leaving, then pull Riddle off the top rope and run.

Backstage, Naomi and Sasha Banks talk about their match tonight when Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan show up. Sasha says Naomi just has to be Naomi in order to win tonight.

Backstage, RK-Bro (Matt Riddle and Randy Orton) meet with Adam Pearce regarding the tag team title unification match. Pearce says he is awaiting an answer on the match, then Matt Riddle says he wants Jimmy Uso tonight. Pearce makes the match official.

Rhea Ripley beats Naomi.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso), but they just go straight into Roman Reigns' locker room.

Backstage, Megan Morant interviews Happy Corbin. Corbin says Madcap Moss was more of a "hanger-on," "minion," "gopher" and "lackey" who was funny to laugh at until he became an anchor around his neck dragging down his career as he blames him for his WrestleMania loss. After sarcastically wishing Moss the best of luck, he says that Madcap Moss will fall flat on his face and become the laughingstock of SmackDown.

Drew Gulak interviews Madcap Moss, who says that he feels sorry for Happy Corbin, saying people liked him better as a bum. He gives credit where credit is due and says Corbin taught him a bit, even if he was telling jokes for one person, but says he is glad to move on. He says that if either member of Los Lotharios (Humberto and Angel) thinks they can make him a laughingstock, then they can stick their kiss cam right up his butt. We then see the Los Lotharios Kiss Cam on Moss' butt.

Madcap Moss beats Humberto after hitting Angel with a Spear in the corner.

Backstage, Charlotte Flair meets with Adam Pearce regarding the "I Quit" Match with "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey when Drew Gulak shows up asking how he did on his interview earlier. An offended Charlotte Flair says he can get a performance review after he interviews her in the middle of the ring in response to Gulak barging in.

The Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championship unification match is official for WrestleMania Backlash.

Drew Gulak interviews Charlotte Flair in the middle of the ring. Charlotte says that she did not refuse the "I Quit" Match with "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey and that she was trying to protect Ronda due to how fragile her ego is, but Ronda went to management and got her match, which she says was a big mistake. She says that Ronda was devastated after WrestleMania and that she will be humiliated in an "I Quit" Match. When Gulak mentions that Charlotte tapped out at WrestleMania, Charlotte calls it "ridiculous" and says she was fixing her bra. Gulak then mentions that Ronda would be champion if the referee had seen what happened, Charlotte says Gulak is out of line and that she did not tap out, then responds to the fans with "What?" before asking Gulak if he stopped competing to ask stupid questions. She then says Gulak is used to quitting just like all of the fans in the arena before stating she is not a quitter and that quitting is not in her DNA, which she says contains winning. Charlotte then says she is a submission master and has been submitting people for over a decade, then tells Gulak does not deserve to interview her before telling him to get out of her ring. When Gulak tries to leave, Charlotte hits him with a chop block before putting him in the Figure Four Leg Lock and slapping him and making him scream "I Quit" as she bridges into the Figure Eight. Referees have to rush in to get Charlotte to break the hold.

We hear from Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser. Kaiser says that to them, the mat is sacred, and Gunther protects the honor of professional wrestling and is an example of elegant destruction as he punishes the weak. Gunther says that everyone will obey "The Ring General."

Before the next match, Sami Zayn says that his reputation has taken a major hit and has been made even worse after people said he ran away from his match with Drew McIntyre. Sami says he is not afraid of McIntyre or anything or anyone. He then says he is the master strategist and that everything he does is calculated and part of a master plan, then tells McIntyre that he will not run or hide and that he will beat him in the middle of the ring and regain the respect the fans owe him.

Drew McIntyre beats Sami Zayn by count-out when Sami Zayn retreats through the crowd. After the match, Drew McIntyre chases Sami Zayn through the crowd.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Ricochet. Ricochet says Jinder Mahal is mean and imposing, but he sees someone who cannot match his ability in the ring and is waiting to be chopped down. He says he is called "flawless" because he makes everything look perfect and that the Intercontinental title is not going anywhere.

Backstage, Sami Zayn is running away from Drew McIntyre when he runs into Adam Pearce. Sami Zayn says it will not happen again, and Pearce says it definitely will not happen again when Sami Zayn and Drew McIntyre have a lumberjack match next week.

Ricochet retains the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Jinder Mahal.

Backstage, Megan Morant interviews Sheamus, Ridge Holland and Butch. Sheamus says they have bigger fights over who gets the remote at home and that they have had a discussion where they have concluded that Butch needs to harness his aggression and that they are not the enemy. When Ridge and Sheamus ask who the enemy, Butch says "New Day!" and runs away, and Ridge has to remind Sheamus that they lost Butch.

Tonight's classic SmackDown moment is John Cena's debut against Kurt Angle from June 27, 2002.

Backstage, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods are suddenly attacked by Butch, and Sheamus and Ridge Holland get involved shortly before referees and officials do.

We hear from Lacey Evans, who says that after her mother and siblings ran, their father found them and further abused them. Eventually, his father found himself a wanted man on an assault charge due to his bad mental health, and Lacey's family fled once again. She says that law enforcement and child protective services were in her life from the start, but neither of them protected her, and she learned how to fend herself and find positives in the middle of so much negativity. Lacey Evans says she is comfortable at rock bottom and that nobody in the locker room can faze her, because she is a caring, careful mother, daughter, U.S. Marine and WWE Superstar. Lacey says that while that does not make her better than anyone, nobody is better than her. Backstage, Natalya and "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler are irritated with the returning Lacey Evans and the new faces showing up in the women's division, including Raquel Rodriquez, whom they meet.

Matt Riddle beats Jimmy Uso with an RKO out of mid-air after Randy Orton sends Jey Uso into the announce table.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
