Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for July 29, 2022

Drew McIntyre beats Sheamus in a Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook Match to compete for the WWE Universal Championship at Clash at the Castle. After the match, Kayla Braxton interviews Drew McIntyre, who tells Sheamus it did not have to be that way but that he did what he had to do as someone had to take the Universal Championship off a part-time champion. Suddenly, McIntyre is attacked from behind by Austin Theory with the Money In The Bank briefcase, and Theory says he will be the next undisputed champion.

Happy Corbin shows up with a ticket to a seat right behind the commentary table, a basket of popcorn and a sign saying that Pat McAfee is a loser.

It is announced that Matt Riddle has suffered a concussion following his match from last week and that his match with Seth "Freakin'" Rollins at SummerSlam has been postponed.

Happy Corbin finally jumps the barricade after officials try to stand between Pat McAfee and Corbin, and Corbin sneaks behind McAfee and kicks him in the groin.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Austin Theory, who says he is sick and tired of being treated like a punching bag and that he is a future world champion in WWE. He says he cannot help it if some people are jealous of him, but nothing will stop him from cashing in at SummerSlam, becoming undisputed WWE Champion and making McIntyre his punching bag again at Clash at the Castle. Theory then runs into Paul Heyman, who then tries to reason with him.

Shotzi beats Aliyah. (Lacey Evans was supposed to be Aliyah's opponent tonight, but she is not medically cleared.)

We see untelevised footage from last week where Sonya Deville gets beaten up by "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey.

During a photoshoot between Liv Morgan and "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey, Natalya shows up and tells Liv that Ronda will destroy her. Sonya then shows up and verbally gangs up on Liv alongside Natalya.

As Shotzi tries to cut a promo in the ring, "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey shows up and beats up her after Shotzi goes for a cheap shot. Ronda then calls out Liv Morgan so they can finally go at it. After the commercial break, Liv Morgan heads to the ring.

"Rowdy" Ronda Rousey and Liv Morgan beat Sonya Deville and Natalya with a knee bar from Ronda to Sonya.

The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) head to the ring, followed by The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso). Jeff Jarrett then shows up and says he has words for both teams, and says that he wanted both of them here to get some things straight. This leads to both teams insulting and threaten each other as they ask what constitutes a disqualification, then Jarrett says he is here not to constrain them, but to let them run wild, and that his only job in their match is to count the pinfall at SummerSlam. He then brings up both teams having "outstanding issues," then dares anybody to jump if they feel froggy. This almost immediately leads to both teams brawling only for Jarrett to get superkicked. When Jey Uso inadvertently superkicks Jarrett, the brawl immediately stops and The Usos check on Jarrett, who shoves The Usos. Dawkins then shoves The Usos out of the ring and Montez takes The Usos out with a dive over the top rope.

We hear from Maxxine Dupri, Mace and Mansoor, who debut the 2022 SummerSlam Beachwear collection. Max Dupri also shows up and says that Maximum Male Models is still looking for clients.

The Viking Raiders (Ivar and Erik) beat The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods). After the match, The Viking Raiders get in the ring with their shields, and when Xavier Woods charges at them, he gets smacked with a shield. They then wrap a chair around Woods' ankle after tossing Kofi out, then smash the chair with their shields to injure Woods' ankle.

Paul Heyman is in the ring. Heyman says that Roman Reigns will be the last man standing tomorrow night, then mentions Roman's 700-day reign as Universal Champion and Brock Lesnar wanting to be the spoiler. Heyman says that will happen "over [his] damn dead body" and that Roman will put Lesnar down for ten seconds and be done with Lesnar once and for all. Suddenly, Lesnar shows up. As Lesnar is about to corner Heyman, he is attacked from behind by Austin Theory, but Lesnar turns around and violently overpowers him. Theory stumbles out of the ring only to turn around eat a Claymore Kick from Drew McIntyre, who has a staredown with Lesnar.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
