Generation NXT 2.0 - NXT 2.0 recap for July 19, 2022

JD McDonagh beats Cameron Grimes after Grimes' left knee - which McDonagh targets throughout the match - gets trapped between the middle and bottom rope. During the match, Joe Gacy is seen watching from the balcony.

We hear from Nikkita Lyons, who says that she will toss everyone in tonight's 20-woman battle royal over the top rope and that Mandy Rose will no longer be ducking her.

We hear from Tiffany Stratton, who is offended she is in tonight's 20-woman battle royal and that she is the only woman worthy of the NXT Women's Championship.

Cora Jade heads to the ring. Cora says she should have stabbed Roxanne Perez in the back sooner, as she has been the face of the NXT women's division for the past year after the fans declared her the next big breakout star. When this happened, she got Roxanne through the door, but then the fans' attention went from her to Roxanne, and Roxanne was declared the next big breakout star. On top of this, she became a champion along with Roxanne. She then says that not even thirty minutes later, Roxanne wanted to cash in her NXT Women's Breakout Tournament contract and become NXT Women's Champion when she wanted the women's tag titles to be the ones that mattered. Cora then felt that their friendship was a lie and that Roxanne used her to get into NXT, and calls Roxanne "selfish." She then brags about attacking Roxanne in the parking lot, and that her plan was about to play out perfect until Roxanne ruined her moment. She then says it felt so good when she hit Roxanne in the back, and that the look on Roxanne's face was priceless. After declaring that Roxanne will not be able to compete due to a broken heart, nobody will stand in her way of winning tonight's battle royal. As for her half of the NXT Women's Tag Team Championships, all it represents is a lie. She declares this the end of a naive Cora and the beginning of "the real generation of Jade" before throwing the championship belt in a trash can.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Xyon Quinn, who congratulates Cora Jade for dumping Roxanne Perez, as this is not a "we" kind of business. As for Apollo Crews, he did not see him coming, and tonight, he gets Apollo one-on-one. He says it will be the biggest match of his career, and says that despite his accomplishments, Apollo Crews could not cut it in the big leagues as he did not have the "X-Factor" like he does, and next week, the "X-Factor" will be on full display.

We hear from Indi Hartwell, who says that flying solo has been a wild ride, but history says she has made the right choice as nobody in the women's division can be trusted. She says only woman will face Mandy Rose for the women's title, and that is her.

Roderick Strong beats Damon Kemp. During the match, Tony D'Angelo shows up on the TitanTron and reveals that his family has attacked The Creed Brothers (Julius and Brutus Creed) and that unlike diamonds, he is forever. Damon Kemp wants to help The Creed Brothers, but Roderick Strong drop kicks him and gets the win before going to the back himself. Kemp stumbles as he follows Strong.

Backstage, Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) compliment each others' looks before saying it is time to "cowboy up" and win the NXT UK Tag Team Championships. Meanwhile, as Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen look forward to Fallon Henley winning the battle royal, Fallon says it is easier to lose their tag titles than to keep them. Jensen tells Pretty Deadly they are in for a country ass-whipping.

Backstage, Roderick Strong chews The Creed Brothers (Julius and Brutus Creed) out for being attacked. When Damon Kemp shows up, Roderick Strong chews out Kemp for taking too long before saying that while The D'Angelo Family started it, they will finish it.

Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen retain the NXT UK Tag Team Championships against Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) after Fallon Henley - who is inadvertently hurt during the match by Elton Prince - keeps Kit Wilson from using one of the tag title belts as a weapon while Prince tries to distract the ref by throwing the other title belt to Briggs.

We hear from Joe Gacy and The Dyad. Gacy says his Dyad have sat under his tree, cast away their egos and accepted his teachings. He then says that under his guidance, they will be who they were always meant to be. He then tells them that there is no going back, then The Dyad reveal their faces as part of the purification process. It is Grizzled Young Veterans: James Drake and Zack Gibson, now known as Jagger Reid and Rip Fowler respectively. Reid says they have found redemption, and that they can finally and truly be recognized. Gacy says their past will be left behind them and that they will not be the last to be unshackled, as there is more room under The Schism's tree. He then welcomes the home.

Backstage, Bron Breakker is seen looking for JD McDonagh.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Wes Lee, who says that on his journey to find himself, he keeps finding roadblocks. He also says that his vision is back to normal, then addresses Grayson Waller. He says that he has heard worse from people he respects, then says that Grayson Waller will have no one to blame for the loss he is about to take before he takes on Trick Williams again.

Bron Breakker heads to the ring. Bron says he went toe to toe with one of the best in Cameron Grimes last week, and while Grimes tried to make things personal, he stood up to him, and he can respect that. He then addresses JD McDonagh showing up and putting him through a table, and says it is a "next man up" sort of thing and that he knows who McDonagh is. He says that if McDonagh wanted his attention, he has it, and he will pay for what he did to him. Suddenly, McDonagh shows up on the TitanTron. McDonagh asks how the shoulder is holding up, but Bron tells him to get in to the ring for himself. McDonagh says that he has been studying him and that he is going to dissect him. He then talks about how there are eight major muscles in the shoulder and that they are all important and necessary, then says he knows how to tear tendon from bone and that there is only so much trauma the brain can go through before shutting off. McDonagh asks Bron to ask himself how much he wants to keep the NXT Championship, but Bron tells him to get in the ring and to get his balls from the mannequin behind him if he does not have any. McDonagh says they will meet again, and tells Bron to mind his shoulder until then. Bron says he will take McDonagh's shoulder and beat him over the head with it.

We see footage from last Friday where Solo Sikoa is attacked from behind by Von Wagner, who repeatedly knees Solo's right shoulder before bragging that he "put the street champion on his ass."

Axiom debuts next!

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Diamond Mine (Roderick Strong, Damon Kemp, Julius Creed, Brutus Creed). Julius Creed tells The D'Angelo Family it is "on sight," and Brutus says that if they jump one of them, they jump all of them. Roderick Strong tells Tony D'Angelo that Diamond Mine is the strongest family in NXT, then Julius Creed gives D'Angelo the choice of either facing them or being hunted down.

Axiom beats Dante Chen.

Roderick Strong tells Tony D'Angelo that Diamond Mine is the strongest family in NXT, then Julius Creed gives D'Angelo the choice of either facing them or being hunted down.

In footage from earlier today, a fan wants a picture of Giovanni Vinci, but he takes a picture of only himself. Suddenly, Chase University's bus gets in the way of Vinci's car, and Bodhi Hayward saves Vinci a seat in the student section.

At the barber shop, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams talk about last week, then Carmelo says they have business to take care of. Trick Williams mentions Von Wagner attacking Solo Sikoa as well as Giovanni Vinci and Apollo Crews. Carmelo sees on his phone that Wes Lee is talking about Trick Williams, and Trick Williams makes fun of Wes Lee's vision getting blurred while mentioning that Carmelo will take care of Grayson Waller.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Toxic Attraction (Mandy Rose, Jacy Jayne, Gigi Dolin). Mandy Rose says Tatum Paxley will be the one to win, then Jacy Jayne makes fun of McKenzie and Gigi Dolin calls the winner of tonight's battle royal "the next loser." Ivy Nile shows up and says she will render Mandy unconscious, then Kiana James shows up and says Ivy has no chance of winning through brute strength and that she will face Mandy Rose. Alba Fyre then shows up and says she will burn Toxic Attraction's empire to the ground.

We see another QR scan code.

Backstage, Cameron Grimes is not in the mood to be interviewed on his way out of the arena, visibly frustrated with losing tonight and not winning the NXT Championship. Joe Gacy shows up and says he understands what Cameron Grimes is feeling and going through, but Cameron Grimes tells him "not now" and leaves. Joe Gacy smiles.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews The D'Angelo Family. D'Angelo says Elektra Lopez is ready to win tonight, then says Diamond Mine (Roderick Strong, Damon Kemp, Julius Creed, Brutus Creed) does not know how to fight on the streets and do not have his family fooled. He says they cannot get along with each other yet still have a chance against them, then accepts Diamond Mine's challenge and declares Diamond Mine finished.

Zoey Stark returns to action for the first time in months before the next match.

Zoey Stark last eliminates Cora Jade - who suddenly shows up after leaving the ring over the middle rope only to be clobbered and chased to the back by Ivy Nile - to become the #1 contender for the NXT Women's Championship as Toxic Attraction (Mandy Rose, Jacy Jayne, Gigi Dolin) watch from the Toxic Lounge.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
