Generation NXT - NXT recap for October 21, 2020

KUSHIDA beats Tommaso Ciampa and Velveteen Dream in a Triple Threat Match after Dream knocks Ciampa down with the cast on his left hand.

We hear from The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O'Reilly, Roderick Strong). Adam Cole - on a screen from another location - says he is not medically cleared but is getting better, which is bad news for everyone else. He says that Strong and Fish will take the NXT Tag Team titles back. O'Reilly says they have accomplished a lot since they started "The Golden Prophecy," and Fish says Breezango (Tyler BReeze and Fandango) are no match for them as Strong says that the tag team titles are coming back to them.

We see a vignette for Rhea Ripley.

Ember Moon beats Jessi Kamea by submission. After the match, Dakota Kai attacks Ember Moon and tells Ember she will not let her use her to get back into the spotlight.

Backstage, Bobby Fish has been attacked, and Fish cannot walk under his own power. Fish says he does not know who attacked him.

Bronson Reed beats Austin Theory with a top rope splash after shoving Theory off the top rope twice. During the match, McKenzie Mitchell announces that Bobby Fish is getting his knee checked out at a local medical facility and will not be in tonight's main event, and that Kyle O'Reilly is now medically cleared and will take Fish's place. After the match, Theory says he is the future of NXT and WWE and that he has done more in the business more than Reed has ever done in his career, and tells Reed to get in the ring and face him again. Reed runs in and accepts the challenge. That challenge is quickly overcome following a massive Samoan Drop that leads to Bronson Reed beating Austin Theory again.

Backstage, Xia Li thanks Kacy Catanzaro for facing her tonight, and Kacy says she has already been a friend to her and that she is up to the challenge. Xia Li says this match is important to her and that she needs to win. After Kacy leaves, Xia Li says this is the most important match of her career and that she has to win.

In footage from during the commercial break, Austin Theory says he is done and that he quits as he gets in his car and leaves the arena.

Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, Raul Mendoza) beat Jake Atlas, Ashante "Thee" Adonis and Isaiah "Swerve" Scott in a six-man tag match.

We hear from Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae, who "practice" spinning the wheel for their potential match stipulations next week. Gargano keeps getting Buried Alive and Casket Matches, and walks away in disgust.

Ever-Rise (Chase Parker and Matt Martel) beat Drake Maverick and Killian Dain by disqualification after Maverick hits Ever-Rise with a steel chair after Matt Martel makes Maverick angry. After the match, Maverick realizes he screwed up, but Killian Dain compliments him and asks Maverick where that version of him has been. Their happy music then plays, but Killian Dain just leaves the ring as Maverick dances.

It is revealed that Roderick Strong has been attacked backstage.

Backstage, General Manager William Regal meets with the tag team division. Kyle O'Reilly gives The Undisputed Era's tag team title opportunity to Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch, then heads to the hospital.

Kacy Catanzaro beats Xia Li with an Oklahoma Roll. After the match, Xia Li attacks Kacy Catanzaro, and when Kayden Carter tries to stop Xia Li, Xia Li superkicks her before attacking Kacy again. Suddenly, Raquel Gonzalez shows up and attacks Xia from behind and tosses Kacy into Kayden, who Raquel then choke slams. Rauqel then grabs a microphone and tells Rhea Ripley that this is what awaits her, as she is bigger and badder and she will be "la diabla" of her nightmares next week.

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Cameron Grimes, who finds out his match with Dexter Lumis is a Haunted House of Terror Match. As Grimes - who is scared of the match - says he is not afraid of Lumis, Lumis watches him from behind the glass window of a door.

We hear from Io Shirai, who says that it does not matter which match she gets next week, as she will beat Candice LeRae.

Timothy Thatcher is in the ring for a live "Thatch as Thatch Can" lesson about success. He says one needs aggression and the ability to show no mercy, and says that he and Anthony Greene will show how to cause extreme pain with simple technique. Thatcher then shows how to get his elbow into somebody's cheek as Greene goes for his leg, then shows how to use Green's momentum against him to put him in a wrist lock. As this keeps going, Greene gets angry, and when Thatcher tells Greene to take his wrist, he goes for the leg again, and pushes Thatcher to the corner. This leads to an impromptu match.

Timothy Thatcher beats Anthony Greene with a single leg crab.

We hear from Damian Priest, who says he understands why Johnny Gargano came at him the way he did, and says that Gargano cannot move on from a loss while he can. He says that Gargano is still the same guy he always was, but that the difference is that he is here now. He then asks if Gargano can take the pain in whatever match they have next week.

Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch beat Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) with a low blow from Danny Burch to Tyler Breeze after a mysterious masked man shows up and tosses Fandango off the ring apron. After the match, the masked man unmasks to reveal that he is none other than Pat McAfee, who has not been seen since his loss to Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver XXX.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
