Halloween Havoc - NXT recap for October 28, 2020

Shotzi Blackheart starts the show taking a electric hand saw to a sheet of metal, creating sparks.

A guitarist plays during Damian Priest's entrance. After Johnny Gargano shows up, Shotzi Blackheart spinds the stipulation wheel, and the match is made a Devil's Playground Match. (In this match, there are no count-outs or disqualifiations, falls count anywhere, and anything goes.)

Johnny Gargano beats Damian Priest in a Devil's Playground Match to become the first-ever two-time NXT North American Champion after a mysterious black-cloaked figure in a Scream mask shows up and helps out Gargano, hitting Priest in the back with a pipe before handing him a tombstone that Gargano that Gargano shatters on Priest, knocking Priest off the stipulation wheel pedestal with a dusty thud.

Backstage, Cameron Grimes is met by General Manager William Regal. Grimes is terrifed of his match tonight as Regal escorts him to the parking lot.

Pat McAfee, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch are in the ring. McAfee says his match against Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver XXX is the greatest debut in professional wrestling history, then says Adam Cole did not congratulate him after the match. He then says that Adam Cole flexed on top of him that night, and says that on the way back home, all he could think about was "how big of a bum Adam Cole was." He also could not get back at Cole right away due to his other projects. As a result, he made a call to Ridge Holland and had him attack Adam Cole in exchange for a Mercedes-Benz, which he did, only to see Ridge Holland get injured. He calls this an expensive mistake, but then he got with Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch, who initially refused, saying they refused to be bought. Suddenly, Kyle O'Reilly shows up. Before O'Reilly gets in the ring, Pete Dunne - who has not been seen in NXT in months - also shows up with two steel chairs. He hands one to O'Reilly, then they run Lorcan, Butch and McAfee to the ring apron. Dunne then stomps O'Reilly's left elbow into a steel chair. After that, Lorcan and Burch hit O'Reilly with an assisted DDT into a steel chair, then McAfee says he is smarter than The Undisputed Era and that he and his friends are the new kings of NXT.

Backstage, Cameron Grimes goes outside only to see a white van pull up. Michael PS Hayes comes out of the van, then Cameron reluctantly enters the van.

Santos Escobar beats Jake Atlas following the interference from Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza.

We hear from Ember Moon, saying that Dakota Kai has stepped up but that she will not like the receipt coming to her.

Cameron Grimes is dropped off at the Haunted House of Terror. Grimes approaches the house as he tells Deter Lumis he is coming for him. Lumis is seen hiding in a tree. Grimes enters the house, which looks much like a normal house. Inside, Grimes gets scared by a deer head and a tricycle as Lumis stalks him. Grimes soon encounters a zombie referee, and Lumis attacks Grimes. Grimes hits Lumis with a foreign object that shatters, then traps Lumis in the room only for Lumis to break the door. Grimes hides in a bathroom only to find a woman in the shower, but the woman is a zombie, and Grimes runs out of the bathroom. When he stands near the window, Lumis attacks again. More zombies show up, lights go out and Lumis shows up out of nowhere, and Grimes fights back as he flees into the kitchen and finds a broomstick only to find yet more zombies waiting for him, with one of them latching onto him. Grimes throws the zombie off, but is chased by more. He runs into the van, but Lumis is in the driver's seat. Grimes leaves the van and runs away.

Rhea Ripley beats Raquel Gonzalez.

Cameron Grimes is seen slowly running down the street to the arena.

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Drake Maverick, who is dressed as Hollywood Hogan, when two men dressed as The Giant and The Yeti double bear-hug him only for The Shockmaster to show up. The Shockmaster is really Killian Dain, who refuses to trip. Maverick puts on the glittery Stormtrooper helmet, then trips.

Cameron Grimes finally makes it back to the arena. He collapses near the stage, then finds out he is near some tombstones. Zombies show up and slowly crawl towards him. He soon comes face-to-face with Dexter Lumis, who then beats Grimes up in a wrestling ring covered with fog. Zombies soon show up and surround Lumis while approaching Grimes, and when another one crawls on top of Lumis, Lumis tosses it at Grimes before choking him out with Silence. Dexter Lumis leaves the ring as zombies surround Cameron Grimes.

We hear from Tommaso Ciampa, who says he does not recognize NXT anymore, as an attitude and culture of entitlement has taken over and people want to blame others for something they do not have. Ciampa says he has never been handed anything, and says that he has been undeniable for a very long time, and that fate took the status of him being NXT away from him. He says it is time to take it back, and he will start with Velveteen Dream. He admits Velveteen Dream has that "it factor," but cannot get out of his own way, and tells Velveteen Dream that he is a dead man for hitting him with his cast not once, but twice.

Next week: Tommaso Ciampa vs. Velveteen Dream! Ember Moon vs. Dakota Kai!

Poppy performs during Io Shirai's match entrance.

Candice LeRae vs. Io Shirai for the NXT Women's Championship is a Tables, Ladders and Scares Match. (In this match, there are no pinfalls, submissions, disqualifications or count-outs, and the winner is the one who climbs the ladder and claims the championship.

Io Shirai retains the NXT Women's Championship in a Tables, Ladders and Scares Match. During the match, the black-cloaked figure in the Scream mask returns to help Candice up a ladder to the title, but Shotzi Blackheart gets in the ring and powerbombs the cloaked figure through a pile of steel chairs. Shirai confronts Candice, and while Candice rakes Shirai's eyes, Shirai shoves the ladder Candice is standing on, sending Candice tumbling out of the ring and through another ladder, allowing Shirai to climb to the title and retain.
