Generation NXT - NXT recap for September 16, 2020

Io Shirai beats Shotzi Blackheart. Both women show good sportsmanship after the match.

We see a video package for Tommaso Ciampa, who is in action next.

Next week: an NXT Women's Championship #1 Contender Battle Royal!

Tommaso Ciampa beats Desmond Troy (formerly known as Denzel Dejournette). After the match, Jake Atlas shows up and says he is not a coward and knows how much of a threat Ciampa is, then says next week, it is his turn to eat and show dangerous he can be.

In footage from earlier today, Drake Maverick says that he and Killian Dain will take care of business as a team tonight, despite the lack of communication or enthusiasm from Killian Dain.

We hear from Finn Balor, who says that everyone wanted to know who was the best between him and Adam Cole. Finn says that Cole was undisputed, but he is the only prince. Finn says that in his first NXT Championship reign, he built and carried NXT, but now, he is the brand and the brand needs him. He says that he has made the NXT Championship the most important in the game, as he has fought 20 years to be champion. He says that it is time for people to start facing the champion, then tells everyone to form a queue and get in line, and look both ways before facing The Prince.

Before the next match, Austin Theory says he is a future first-ballot Hall of Famer and that Bronson Reed got a fluke victory last week, and that he will prove it right now. KUSHIDA then shows up to fight Theory.

KUSHIDA beats Austin Theory with the Hoverboard Lock.

We hear from Candice LeRae, who tells Tegan Nox that she changed for the better, while Johnny Gargano complains about the broken television from last week and sending Tegan the bill for a new one. LeRae then says she will win next week's #1 contender battle royal, then Gargano says he has bought a brand new television.

Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) retain the NXT Tag Team Championships against Imperium (Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel) after Fandango stops the European Bomb.

Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter beat Jessi Kamea and Xia Li. Jessi Kamea shows good sportsmanship with Kacy and Kayden after the match, but Xia Li walks away without shaking hands.

Backstage, Drake Maverick meets with Killian Dain, who makes it clear he wants nothing to do with Maverick as he wishes Maverick luck and leaves him to fend for himself tonight.

We hear from Tegan Nox, who tells Candice LeRae that at the end of the day, she is the one who has not changed and that the Candice she knew cared about her and not herself. She says that getting her old friend back did not happen, and that Candice winning next week's battle royal will not happen, as she will become the #1 contender for the NXT Women's Championship and make everything different against Io Shirai the second time around.

Drake Maverick and Killian Dain beat The Undisputed Era (Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong) by disqualification. During the match, General Manager William Regal confronts Killian Dain for staying backstage and deserting Drake Maverick, and Dain decides to head to the ring. Dain places Maverick back into the ring and tells him to "take it like a man," but when he heads backstage, The Undisputed Era mouth off at him, which causes Killian Dain to go back to the ring and fight them. The match ends after Bobby Fish hits Killain Dain with a chair to no effect, and both Dain and Maverick dare The Undisputed Era to get back in the ring. When Maverick tells Dain they are a team and shoves him, however, he gets knocked out again.

In footage from earlier tonight, Jake Atlas is attacked from behind by Tommaso Ciampa. Kyle O'Reilly confronts Ciampa, and Ciampa tells both Atlas and O'Reilly that he will see them both next week.

We hear from General Manager William Regal, who announces that there will be a new #1 contender for the NXT Championship decided in the Gauntlet Eliminator Match. Two men start in the ring, and another competitor enters every four minutes. The last man standing will face Finn Balor for the NXT Championship.

Damian Priest retains the NXT North American Championship against Timothy Thatcher.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
