Layin' da 1000th SmackDown - SmackDown 1000 recap for October 16, 2018

A special video package of SmackDown moments through the years acts as the introduction to tonight's show.

It's time for Truth TV to start tonight's show. R-Truth welcomes everyone to the 1,000th episode of SmackDown Live, and Carmella has to remind Truth that Truth TV only lasted one episode and that they were cancelled when Truth is about to talk about all the moments that have happened through the years. The show then has a dance break. Afterward, R-Truth is about to introduce their guest when the card he reads says their guest needs no introduction. Since there is no need for an introduction, Carmella and Truth have another dance break. R-Truth then introduces their guest: Raw Commissioner and WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, who was the blue brand's first-ever General Manager. Stephanie talks about her time as General Manager, then says her vision for the brand back then has led to this 1,000th episode. Before Truth can ask Stephanie questions, however, SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon shows up for the first time in months. Shane officially welcomes everyone to the show, then reminisces throughout the years and thanks the fans all over the world for making tonight's landmark 1,000th episode as well as WWE's success possible on behalf of WWE. Stephanie complains about the fans easily buying whatever Shane says, then Shane welcomes her to "the A-show." Stephanie tries to put Raw over SmackDown Live, but nobody in the ring or the crowd is buying it. Before an argument can start between Shane and Stephanie, however, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon makes a rare appearance that is very well-received by the Washington, DC crowd. Vince says nobody wants to see Shane and Stephanie bicker; instead, the fans want to be entertained. He then announces a dance break that everyone in the ring takes part in.

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) beat "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan after Daniel Bryan inadvertently hits AJ Styles, allowing The Usos to get the win with a couple of superkicks.

General Manager Paige is seen backstage with past blue brand General Managers Vickie Guerrero, Teddy Long and John Laurinaitis.

Evolution (Triple H, Randy Orton, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Batista) show up, reunited in full for the first time in years. Triple H says that SmackDown Live has lasted 1,000 episodes by evolving over the years, and that a group epitomizing evolution is the best way to celebrate that milestone. Ric Flair says he's more used to that "ten thousand" number and that this has felt like a lifetime. Orton talks about how he got his start in Evolution, and how he kept evolving since then while everyone else in the group has found success elsewhere. Batista admits he is a little nervous being back in the ring as it has been a long time, but he will enjoy every second of it, ignore what Orton said, and even though this is the last place he wants to be, he knows what he wants to say. He says he has wanted to be here tonight because he is proud to have helped build the blue brand, Washington, DC is his hometown, he is here for the fans, and because of the rest of Evolution is here. He says that there has always been something special in Evolution, and whenever they walked into the building, the energy changed and the vibe was different. He says that Evolution was never done before or since, and that the group is indeed something special. Batista talks about the potential he, the rest of Evolution and the fans saw in Orton when he first laid eyes on him, says there's nothing than hasn't been said about Flair, and gives Triple H props for his accolades and running the business. He says that Triple H has done everything possible in the business...except beat him. This leads to a tense staredown between Triple H and Batista, and Flair has to play peacekeeper before Triple H and Batista hug in a show of respect. After that, everyone in Evolution shakes hands with each other.

Kurt Angle guests on commentary for the next match.

The Miz quickly beats Rusev with a schoolboy and a grab of the tights after Aiden English shows up and distracts Rusev to qualify for the WWE World Cup tournament. After the match, Lana kicks Aiden English in the groin, then Rusev goes on the warpath at Lana's command and repeatedly sends Aiden into the steel steps before tossing him around at ringside.

Backstage, Curt Hawkins is met by Edge, who hosts The Cutting Edge with guests Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair after the break.

Edge shows up to host The Cutting Edge with special guests Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. Edge talks about a great man who lived his life huge, and says it doesn't get much huger than SmackDown 1000, so he had to be here, as SmackDown always felt like his show. Edge talks about how his greatest accomplishments took place on the blue brand, and that the blue brand really means something to him. For the last few weeks, however, he has seen something that he needs to address. Tonight, he will attempt to be "SmackDown's moral compass," and introduces Becky Lynch. Edge welcomes Becky to the show, then says he could not help but notice that they have a lot of similarities. Becky admits that she patterned her career after Edge's, and is glad that Edge sees what she sees. Edge says that he hopes that Becky will hear him out, as he understands what Becky is going through. He says that he was not supposed to be in the main event, and that he has to scrap for every inch he earned in this company. He says that Becky Lynch has had to do the same thing, then the crowd chants "You deserve it!" at Edge. Edge gets that Becky thinks that throwing her friendship with Charlotte Flair was the right choice, but tells her it was not the right choice. Edge says that he made that same mistake, and he left a trail of burnt bridges as a results. He says that Becky can win all the championships she wants and be on all the posters, but her choices will change who she is and stain her soul. He knows there is still a good person in Becky Lynch, and that her decisions will end with Becky Lynch reminiscing about her achievements by herself. Edge tells Becky that she does not even like herself. Becky tells Edge that she does not like herself. Instead, she lovers herself. She tells Edge to stop being condescending, get out of the ring, and be careful not to hurt his neck as she raises the SmackDown Women's title in the air.Suddenly, Charlotte Flair shows up, and says all Becky Lynch cares about is the SmackDown Women's title, and that Becky ran at Super Show-Down as well as last week because of that. She then says that if Becky loves what she's done, then she'll love what she does to her right now. Charlotte tackles Becky, and both women brawl before referees and officials run in to separate both women.

Backstage, Rey Mysterio - who has not been seen in WWE in four years - meets up with Jeff Hardy.

Jerry "The King" Lawler and Booker T are on The New Day's (Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods) commentary table for guest commentary for the next match.

During the match, Big Show shows up after The Bar attack Kofi Kingston for getting involved and trash The New Day's (Kofi, Big E, Woods) commentary table. He stares The Bar down, then helps Kofi Kingston up only to choke slam him into The New Day's commentary table. Sheamus then hits the Brogue Kick on Big E to win the match and the titles for himself and Cesaro, then The Bar celebrates with Big Show.

We hear from John Cena, who talks briefly about the history of SmackDown, and says that if it wasn't for the blue brand, there would be no John Cena. He says this would not be possible without the fans, and looks forward to even more episodes of SmackDown.

Rey Mysterio beats "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura in his first WWE match in four years to qualify for the WWE World Cup tournament. After the match, The Undertaker shows up. He then simply says that he has three words for D-Generation X (Triple H and "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels) at Crown Jewel: rest in peace.
