Raw Deal - Raw recap for September 18, 2017

In Memory of Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, 1944-2017.

General Manager Kurt Angle shows up. He says he cannot be anymore excited than he is right now, and as he runs down the card for No Mercy, The Miztourage (The Miz, Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel) shows up. Angle says he is glad Miz is out here, and congratulates him on becoming a father, despite the snarky comment he made about him on Miz TV last week. Miz complains that he is being looked at like an afterthough, as there is no Intercontinental Championship match at No Mercy. Angle tells him that if he had let him finish, he would have found out that he is going to have one. There will be a Fatal 4-Way between Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Elias and Jason Ordan tonight, with the winner facing Miz for the Intercontinental title on Sunday. Miz says Jordan is not deserving of a title shot, and that there are others in the locker room who are more deserving, such as his teammates in the Miztourage, and tells Angle to stop rewarding Jason Jordan for absolutely nothing. Angle says he hopes that fatherhood changes Miz and makes him less bitter, but Miz tells Angle not to mention fatherhood to him when he abandoned Jason Jordan and put him up for adoption. Miz tells Angle that he will be a better champion - and father - than Angle ever was, and says he should be Angle's priority, not Jordan, whom Angle is making up lost time for. He then says that it doesn't matter if Angle is abandoning his duties as General Manager or walking out on his son, as you can always count on Angle to be a deadbeat. Suddenly, Jason Jordan shows up and snatches the microphone out of Miz's hand, and tells him that if he utters one more word about Angle, he will knock his pretty little teeth down his throat. Jordan then proposes putting Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel in the Fatal 4-Way Match tonight, so that Miz has no excuses when he loses. Angle does just that, effectively turning the Fatal 4-Way into a Six-Pack Challenge. Miz says Jordan is more incompetent than his father, which earns him a double leg takedown from Jordan, who then overpowers Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel.

General Manager Kurt Angle tells Jason Jordan to calm down backstage. Jordan says that people - not just The Miz - have been talking about Angle, and he has heard the whispers. He says that when he beats The Miz, the whispers will stop. Angle asks what happens if they don't, and says that they will just go on to talk about him and make the problem worse. He tells him that if he really wants to get back at The Miz, then he must win the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

Nia Jax beats Alexa Bliss. During the match, Alexa Bliss tries to retreat when Nia Jax overpowers her from the start, but when she does, Sasha Banks blocks her from heading backstage and Alexa runs right into Nia Jax when she sprints back into the ring. After the match, Sasha Banks jumps on top of Nia Jax, but Nia gets the upper hand. All of a sudden, Bayley returns from injury, and she, Sasha Banka and Alexa Bliss all tackle Nia Jax out of the ring. Afterwards, Sasha and Bayley celebrate, but Alexa humorously gets in between them. Bayley and Sasha lay Alexa out in the middle of the ring for that.

We see WWE Superstars' tweets about the late Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.

We see a video package for Braun Strowman vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam.

Sheamus and Cesaro show up. Sheamus says everything these days is about nostalgia, as it is everywhere in the media right now and everyone loves it for it allows them to escape reality for the good old days. He then says he and Cesaro live in the present and destroy nostalgia acts, and tells the crowd to ask The Hardys (Jeff and Matt Hardy). Cesaro talks about how Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins are back together and having the time of their lives, but says that something can go wrong with their friendship and that something will go wrong on Sunday. Sheamus says Dean and Seth's friendship is a fraud and that they are using each other for their own selfish needs, then he and Cesaro use the opportunity to make fun of the crowd's "What?" chants. Cesaro then says the moment the fun ends, nostalgia fades and the truth sets in, and that Rollins and Ambrose cannot stand each other. Sheamus says their friendship is fragile, and when it breaks, he and Cesaro will pick up the pieces and the Raw tag team titles. Rollins and Ambrose then show up. After making fun of Sheamus and Cesaro's appearance, Rollins admits he and Dean are having fun right now, and that no matter what, they are brothers. Dean says brothers sometimes fight, but brother also don't let brothers walk out of the house looking like Sheamus and Cesaro. Suddenly, Gallows & Anderson (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) show up, and say Sheamus and Cesaro walked out on them last week while Ambrose and Rollins took advantage of their disadvantage. When they call Ambrose and Rollins "nerds," however, Rollins says this is not a good idea and Ambrose says nobody calls him a nerd. He then throws the first punch in a brawl between all three teams where Ambrose and Rollins come out on top.

Asuka is coming soon to Raw...

Sheamus and Cesaro beat Gallows & Anderson (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) and the team of Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose in a three-way tag team match.

The Miztourage (The Miz, Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel) is backstage. Tonight is the night to silence the critics as well as General Manger Kurt Angle, who will learn that nothing will save Jason Jordan from obscurity. Bo Dallas says he has done the motivational speech thing before, and says that this should be about all of them rather just The Miz, especially given that he is a part of the Rotunda wrestling family. Curtis Axel agrees, being a part of the Hennig wrestling family and having held the Intercontinental title before. Curtis Axel says if he wins, he will not take it easy on the miz. Bo says that if he wins, he cannot wait to steal the show from The Miz. Miz tells them to take this one step at a time, because tonight is the night that they prove that Jason Jordan does not deserve either of their spotlights.

We look back at the Money In The Bank Match from WrestleMania 21, courtesy of Pizza Hut.

We see a video package for John Cena vs. Roman Reigns at SummerSlam.

General Manger Kurt Angle is on the phone when he notices that Goldust is right behind him. When Goldust turns around, he is not wearing any make-up. He asks Angle - as Dustin Rhodes and as a friend and a man - for another match against Bray Wyatt to prove that he is not a pawn in Bray Wyatt's game against Finn Balor. Angle reluctantly gives him the match, and Dustin says Wyatt will never forget the name of Dustin Rhodes.

Curt Hawkins is in the ring. He says that normally, he is out here makng stars, but "Curt Hawkins' Star Factory" has come to a close. In its place is "Curt Hawkins' History Machine," where he will try to put his 114-match losing streak to an end. He says that the person who walks down the ramp will be a footnote in history. Apollo Crews is the one to walk down the aisle.

Apollo Crews beats Curt Hawkins, bringing Curt Hawkins' losing streak to 115 matches.

Michael Cole interviews Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar. Paul Heyman says this is not unprecendented territory for Brock, and that the last time Brock was the underdog, it was against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30, and everyone knows how that ended. He says Brock will victimize and conquer Braun Strowman at No Mercy. Braun says his actions speak for him and that he does not have to say how confident he is. He has left Brock Lesnar laying every time week after week, and that he is the only one who has ever done and the only one who can put Lesnar down for good. When asked how Lesnar is preparing for Braun, Heyman says that he does not prepare for people like Strowman becuase nobody is like Strowman. He says Lesnar respects Strowman for being the most capable challenge to come after the WWE Universal Championship, having been the only one to stand up out of the German Suplex. However, that does not mean that Braun Strowman can survive Suplex City. Strowman tells Heyman that he will not only survive Suplex City, but he will stomp it into the ground. Heyman says all Strowman has done is make sure Lesnar undestands that he will have to take Strowman to Suplex City all night long, and that he will have to beat him within an inch of his life in order to stay Universal Champion. Heyman asks how Braun thinks Brock will handle this. Braun says it does not matter, as the ball is in his court and he pulls the strings. Heyman says Lesnar is still the story until he is beaten, and as he runs down all of Lesnar's accolades, Lesnar stops Heyman and thanks Braun for backing him into a corner and challenging him, for that is when he is at his best, and says he will see him Sunday before leaving his with three words: "Suplex...City...bitch."

It is announced that Bayley has been added to the Raw Women's Championship match at No Mercy, making the match a Fatal 5-Way.

Roman Reigns shows up. Roman says he has said it before and he will say it again: John Cena might be the best talker ever, but sometimes he says stupid shit. Cena has called him "the next John Cena," but asks if he looks like a jacked up white guy with a giant head and a miltary crew cut. He then says that if he was the next John Cena, he would not have a career here, and if nobody believes him, they can ask Alex Riley about that. Roman says that when he says something, he means it, like how John is "a fake-ass little bitch." He also says that Cena is the biggest hypocrite in the WWE and that Cena will tell you that himself. To prove his point, he plays a clip from a February 2012 episode of Raw where Cena criticizes The Rock for leaving WWE for Hollywood while presenting himself as someone who will never leave WWE. He then asks the crowd if John Cena should be brought out, and the crowd cheers. Roman then announces that John Cena is not here, which means everything he said five years ago is a lie. He says that at No Mercy, the result will be the same as WrestleMania 28, execpt he will be beaten by a different Samoan.

Renee Young interviews The Hardys (Jeff and Matt Hardy). If tonight's Six-Pack Challenge comes down to the two of them, they have no problem fighting each other, as they have fought each other as kids long before they fought anybody else. Jeff says he came close to winning the title before, and this time he will seize the moment. Matt tells him he has to make it to No Mercy. Jeff simply says "May the best Hardy win."

After a quote by Sun Tzu, we see another vignette for Asuka.

Before the next match, Goldust shows up as Dustin Rhodes, and is billed as being from Austin, Texas.

Bray Wyatt beats Dustin Rhodes. After the match, Finn Balor shows up on the TitanTron and tells a story about a boy who was different from everyone else, who spent his time alone with books about mythology in an attempt to be better than what the world has handed him. Eventually that boy became a man, and learned how to control his pain, anger and rage, manifesting it like the gods and monsters of mythology. That man created a demon. Finn then asks that if the demon is a creation of the man, which one is more dangerous? At No Mercy, Bray Wyatt will find out.

We see more Superstar tweets about Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.

We see a video package celebrating the life and career of Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.

Enzo Amore shows up and talks about his match with Neville for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship at SummerSlam. As he does, he is decimated by Braun Strowman, who plows into him from behind, tosses him into the ring like a rag doll, choke slams him after lifting him nine feet into the air and hits him with the running powerslam. As Strowman leaves the ring, he is met by Neville, who is in sheer awe and somehow escapes meeting the same fate as Enzo. Neville heads to the ring and hits Enzo with a Red Arrow, then grabs a microphone and screams "How you doin'?" before laughing maniacally at Enzo.

Charly Caruso interviews Enzo Amore. Despite the pain he is in, he is taking the Cruiserweight title at No Mercy.

Neville beats Gran Metalik. During the match, Neville tears at Gran Metalik's mask, and Gran Metalik's face is exposed for a few brief seconds.

WWE and NBC Universo shine a spotlight on Jennifer Lopez as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Tomorrow night on 205 Live: Neville and Enzo Amore face-to-face!

Elias sings and plays guitar - and threatens to throw a kid and his mom out of the building - before the next match, bashing not only the people of San Jose, California but also the rest of his opponents tonight. He only covers Jason Jordan before The Hardys (Jeff and Matt Hardy) interrupt everything with their entrance.

Jason Jordan beats Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel and Elias in a 6-Pack Challenge to become #1 contender for the WWE Intercontinental Championship and face The Miz for the title at No Mercy on Sunday. Jason Jordan and The Miz stare down after the match, then Miz goes for a cheap shot only to be belly-to-belly suplexed. Bo and Axel attack Jason Jordan, and after a Skull Crushing Finale to Jason Jordan, Miz says to him "After No Mercy, I will still be the champ. Kurt Angle will still be a terrible father. And you will still be a bastard."

Here are the top 10 moments from tonight's show!
